Fallout 76: 4K 60fps Update tested. What does this mean for Starfield?

- As Bethesda gear up for their biggest launch since the Moon landing in Starfield. They have released an updated current generation version of Fallout 76 on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. What does this offer over the previous Backwards Compatible version, what has changed, how does it now run and what does this tell us about Starfield's performance on Console and PC?

It means that starfield will be 60fps in 5 years
Pretty much
At 720p
On Series Z.
Really love the in-depth review!
It means starfield is on a different engind and it's unrelated. Your content is actually top notch though. Cheers.
They are the same engine.
Skyrim, Fallout 4 and 76 are built on Creation Engine. Todd Howard says they're not the same.
"The technology, Creation Engine 2, is sort of built for both [Starfield and TES VI]. It’s like a new tech base."
That's like saying UE4 and UE5 are the 'same thing'.
I hope Starfield at least gets a 40fps mode
Cry harder xbot
@@MichaelM28why even comment garbage like this? Are you really that salty?
@@MichaelM28
Y u mad?
Interesting data, in your opinion do you think Starfield could feasibly have a stable 40 fps mode at least on the Xbox series X?
Hi! I appreciate your work very much. Thank you for such in depth technical reviews. I wanted to ask why you keep using the 2070 as a reference point for PC? Wouldn't a 6700XT be a more similar card to what we have on PS5 / Xbox Series?
its a reference point for mid range pc ~3060 level
6700 non xt or 6600xt.
@@mikem2253 No. I don't need to argument, just look at specs and take into account the integration a console has.
@@jekaufo if that's the angle, then I understand.
Any word when the Fallout 4 refresh is coming out? I thought it was Summer 23 but since it wasn't mentioned at the Xbox show recently, I wonder if its been pushed back till next year to match the TV show release?
Fo4 runs fine on my deck
I don't think it needs to be remaster
@@HuntaKiller91 The update is more for consoles than PC. Native XSX and XSS engine. Also all of the creation club content which includes a bunch they never released. PC is getting that as well.
@@HuntaKiller91 What a pointless f**king comment
I hope even at sub 1080p there would be an option for 60 FPS with xbsx even like 1 year after launch, with modern reconstruction technique and TAA it might be doable on GPU side. the big question is can the CPU handle it, especially since bathesda game to be heavy on single core.
Id software did help them out with optimization for about a year (if I'm not mistaken.) So that does give me some hope for optimizations, as id are masters at it.
Great content as per usual. Still playing at lot on my RTX 2080Ti PC rig, alongside my PS5 and XBSX, I’m not sure if I’m ready to return to 30 fps gameplay again, no matter how good the game may be.
I’m not. I built a 7900xt PC and only plan on using my PS5 for games that are 60+ fps. So done with 30fps.
Timely!
This is a far more accurate and quite frankly, a more obvious and believable assessment. Rather than the "this game is soooo big and has to keep track of all the sandwiches" arguement.
I'm really interested what it takes to get Starfield to run at 30fps on Steam Deck. Somehow I find it pretty fun to see how you can squeeze a big game onto this little thing and how much you need to sacrifice to do so. It's like solving a puzzle. lol
They really should create a performance mode in starfield...I would be ok with lower resolution personally. But it's not a deal breaker I'm really looking forward to starfield.
I don't have much worry that my CPU (7800X3D) will be able to handle 60fps for Starfield... But my 3080 with XSX level graphics... Although I'll be happy if it can go to 50, my TV has Gsync after all.
So ironic that it came to ps5 first" it seems"
Nobody has an issue with ff16 60fps dropping into the 30s or the res hitting a low of 720 and even the 30fps mode is unstable as well but starfield could hit trouble is the frame rate is unstable ?
Umm it’s the biggest complaint about the game.
@Johnnylandoni not really as the majority are playing it at 30fps which doesn't seem to be an issue but damn starfield at 30 is world ending
@@jamesw884 I know the double standards are ridiculous.
because you console noobs have no standards and people been complaining about ff16 performance
Sitting down to watch tne video now but I'm gonna guess you'll point out these two games aren't really comparable. They might both be on Creation Engine but Starfield is on another level of CPU complexity.
It obviously means that Starfield will just work, and with no less than 16 times the detail.
Magical thinking rules!!
What’s the PS5 version like?
Also received the update.
Why then didn’t they just set the resolution to 1800p on Series X/PS5? I don’t get it. It’s effectively a single line of code…
Did you watch the video?
@@crestofhonor2349 I did. Did I misunderstand?
@@divinitymode9364 Because as he said it's not that simple and it would likely not even deliver a stable 60fps
@@crestofhonor2349 So! Still better experience than a fixed 4k mode with dips into the mid 40's.
Because it’s not a full next gen upgrade. All they did was remove the frame cap for next gen consoles. They basically did the same thing with the Skyrim anniversary patch, but Skyrim had a dynamic resolution already so the frame drops aren’t as bad. Fallout 76 has a locked 4k resolution
ua-cam.com/video/CnlWnRv3JnQ/v-deo.html starfield is single player what do you mean by "online elements"?
These guys ANNOUNCE a next gen update for fallout 4 in october of last year and we get a 60fps shit sandwich first
While not great for PC-owners due to AMD-partnered games blocking DLSS and XeSS options, it does sound like having AMD engineers helping with the game has solved the CPU load issues found in old Creation Engine games as Creation Engine 2 apparently has "highly multi-threaded code."
If the frame pacing is perfect, and the motion blur implementation is perfect… 30fps won’t be abysmal. Not ideal but not abysmal. We shall see.
So what’s the ps5’s resolution on fallout 76?

Basically if Bethesda has not sorted out a way to make that 30 fps evenly distributed through each second, then there will be performance issues. If Starfield plays like shit on Xbox, it will be terrible for the console. Xbox has had failure after failure and hasn't even been nominated for a GOTY award in ten years. They need this to justify all the acquisitions, or else they will have wasted millions of dollars on exclusivity.
My guess is after play tests for Red fall, Microsoft insisted that Starfield be delayed until it played better. We all know Bethesda is perfectly happy to put out games with ridiculous bugs and performance issues, but Xbox can't afford that anymore.
Todd Howard claims he plays it on series s I believe, and he says it runs good, so that's nice to hear, but this is the same man who famously went on an apology tour saying there was very little they didn't screw up. Most of those screw ups were very much hidden from the audience prior to launch so skepticism is justified.
it means nothing
All these damn excuses for this company, just give us the option what's the damage control for smfh
SHITfield 30fps
😂😂😂😂😂
It means nothing
"Trusty 2070" he means a 2 gens old MID END card that's crap
Another horror Port from Bethesda/Microsoft on the Xbox Series X
Is it just me or these bethesda games are just bland and all that 30fps talk is trown out of the window when games like spiderman 2 and Wolverine come out from insomniac, just because a company decides to go for 30fps it doesnt mean that consoles are weak.
Trashbox is weak
Spider-Man 2 is a very shallow game compared to starfield.
It's just your subjective experience with gaming. If you look at Steam charts, BGS games like Skyrim and FO4 are still being played more than games like Spider-man & Spider-man miles morales despite their earlier release dates. I expect the same will happen with Starfield and Spider-Man 2, not sure about Wolverine but it would be a massive departure from how Insomniac designs games if they make it as deep as your typical BGS RPG. A 30fps target for a game like Starfield at launch makes sense to me given the scope and nature of BGS games.
Bathebethesda is a huge JOKE!😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣👍
