Imagine a psychiatrist telling a schizophrenic that the voices in their head are real and they should do what the voices tell them. It's absolutely insane that they just affirm their mental illness.

I had a schizophrenic friend in the 1970s who was sectioned and moved away from Cardiff where I was living and I lost touch. Pete was a crossdresser and gay. He sometimes said he was a "Ladytron from Sirius." Today he would probably have been told he was a transwoman, not sure about the Sirius origin claim though. I have seen a lot of discussion about how people identify, well, there are a lot of people around today who identify as alien beings. Unlike Pete, they are not classed as schizophrenic but may call themselves "starseeds." Should people who identify as aliens be affirmed as such?

The healthcare system is hurting so many young people that we are going to be feeling this for the next 70-80 years at least. The birth control part really hit me :( My doctor tried to put me on hormonal contraceptives at 15 because painful periods caused me to be absent from school and I was getting in trouble with the administration despite being one of those kids who got straight A's and took a full load of AP classes. It was too expensive to visit the Dr every month to get an excuse note so getting BC on insurance would be cheaper. I refused to take it and almost wasn't allowed to graduate despite being one of the top students.
It's disgusting that people jump to medicating young people with really serious, life altering drugs rather than fixing the system that puts an undue burden on them because of their natural biology. That would be real feminism. I am just thankful I missed the trans stuff by a few years.

Luka, I am so grateful you found your way out of all this. There are SO MANY kids who don't and have a hard time figuring out who they REALLY are later in life. And yes, we are all just still trying to figure it out as adults but adolescence is such an important phase to build a foundation. My oldest daughter went through a lot of this. She was sure she was trans and I allowed her to explore with serious boundaries (it's very sad when I think about all of those kids who WERENT given boundaries). She was so angry with me sometimes....im thrilled to say that she is now 19 and just gave birth to my first grand baby! She has a much more strong grasp on being the woman she is, whatever kind of woman that is. You can be whatever kind of woman you want to be and everyone else's view of that doesn't matter.

If testosterone spikes from taking anabolics or even meds like prednisone that are meant to treat inflammation, it’s not uncommon to notice rougher skin, acne, oily skin, etc.

this was just sooooooo insightful. thank you benajmin and Luka. the section where luka speaks about pronouns and language was positively wonderful. It is exactly how I feel about words and names: if a person forces me to use words I do not wish to use, It diminishes the conversation. If anyone forces another to say things they do not feel or believe, you are creating a relationship that is hostile, ugly and completely unauthentic. And isn't authenticity the goal we are all working towards? Honoring the self? being your true self? Thanks Luka. thanks Ben. The main point I took from this discussion was that the Medical/Pharameutical industry is harming people. How ironic that their mission is "Do NO HARM." these corporations are criminal. Lets move towards a day when drugs/doctors/therapy/mecidince/surgery are being administered by people who are not motivated by finacial gain.

There are pills that do that though. It's not the most common form but I was on a micro pill once that was supposed to be taken without a pause so I didn't get a period. It was recommended because I always had bad side effects from the normal pill. Didn't work either so I stopped completely.
The bleeding when you're on the pill is not a normal period anyways, it is a symptom of withdrawal and only done to mimick a menstrual cycle. So it's generally not worse if you go for something like this. However in her case it was obviously not a normal prescription with her Dad being involved and imo young girls shouldn't be put on medication like that except they're sexually active.

When women take 3 weeks of the pill and then skip the last week and go straight to the next pack, they’re doing the same thing. But yes, other products have already done it. I took the shot as a teenager for about a year, and it messed me up. It took many years to regulate after that. I will never put any kind of synthetic sex-hormone in my body again. Most "normal" people (whatever that means) are 90/10, whereas trans people have what I would define as a differential ratio, so they are, in a way, both male & female at the same time. This is a concept outside mainstream thinking, but it is the only explanation that fits their confusion & circumstances.....As regards your conversations with de-transitioner's, I think that the people you interview have mistaken their place on the Harry Benjamin scale of gender dysphoria as being in zone 6, whereas they are in fact zone 4.....
