The problem is autogynephilic men don’t generally admit to being autogynephilic but instead claim to be women - so how can we open up the discussion?
One way is by listening to men like Jamie/Lisa Shupe talk about it and defending their right to speak. Let’s see the interview back up as soon as Shupe can stand the destructive pushback!
There are signs/symptoms of AGP and most AGP’s are heterosexual males who claiming to be lesbians. While genuine transsexuals tend to be homosexual males who claim to be heterosexual women.
So glad Sinead is back on! She is so much more relaxed and happy than the first interview and I get the sense of someone who is now comfortable in their skin. I think she is up there as my favourite guest you have had on ❤️
I dropped out of uni 2-3 times when I was young. Chronic low self esteem and didn’t believe I was capable. Eventually went back and finished my degree and later a PhD. So Sinead, anything is possible. I’m retired now, but if I were still teaching in academia I’d love to have an intelligent, thoughtful student like you. I do understand that these days the cost might be prohibitive.

What a terrific attitude... she acknowledges how despite her regrets, she still was able to learn a lot from the experience.

On the take-down of the recent Shupe interview, I am so alienated by what was behind this. It was the most powerful testimony I’ve yet seen about the bankruptcy of the medical and psychiatric establishment, telling a patient in dire distress and asking for help that they are crazy when they are at last in touch with reality.
It’s also very important that the public and the trans community learn about the existence of autogynephilia. Shupe has played such a valuable role in talking about this, and the need to provide treatment that supports the person not to harm themselves or others.
Please ask Shupe to reconsider the takedown of the video when he feels better, and to persist in speaking out. I’m a feminist and I’m repelled by the way he was demonised - not least because he spoke about the harms of pornography, gender ideology and the affirmation doctors and therapists who ignore their Hippocratic oath
I'm sorry I missed that vid! IDK what they are talking about but I'm guessing that some radfems got their drawers twisted about Benjamin platforming an AGP man. However, based on what you said, it sounds like he shares a lot of my views (& apparently yours, too) re pornography, gender ideology, & the abuse of healthy bodies by doctors. Views like that coming from an AGP man can only BENEFIT our cause! He can speak to people that would never listen to a radfem. I'll never understand cancel culture, the lack of nuance, & the insistence on purity of the Left. I say that as someone who is a progressive/liberal. The way some GC people (radfems?) seem to intentionally look for something to offend them & pick fights with other GC people is how the TRAs treat THEIR "heretics" & "infidels". The infighting is so counterproductive. I hate it.

Thank you for this conversation. One point I disagree with Sinead on is that I care whether trans women call themselves a lesbian (including in a relationship) because lesbian spaces are few and far between and I believe that this says to trans women as a whole that they can join those spaces while they are not for them.

The community she describes with detransistioners sounds a lot like groups of war veterans and survivors of other trauma. The community of trafficking survivors is similar. There is nothing like talking to someone who *really* gets it.
This conversation was great. Good on Sinead, down to Earth and braw heart. Boyce's highlighting of case by case observation is prudent.
We need more people like Sinead who want to have the difficult conversations with people they don't agree with, who want to see other perspectives and examine their own preconceptions. She is a great example for us all and I am glad she is sharing her wisdom with the younger generation. It can't be easy for her to talk about these things, but she does so with dignity and conviction. 👏

I've really enjoyed this interview and agree with Sinead on most things. However, a problem that has been recently highlighted is this attitude to AGPs 'it's ok if they keep it in the bedroom...' it has been pointed out that many of these middle aged men are married and many have children and the damage that this narcissistic condition causes within those relationships can be catastrophic. I think the condition should be talked about and understood, but without therapeutic treatment it is not often a simple harmless kink.

I really enjoy listening to Sinead speak. On the subject of GC people lacking the monolith nature that the TRAs have is precisely because GC people are not held together by any ideology. People who may become "Gender Critical" are from all backgrounds with all different ideas and agendas with the only factor bringing them together is they are critical of what is happening now with the Gender Identity Ideology movement/cult. We'll have diverse reasons why, diverse priorities, and ideas on the right approach. As individual thinkers, we, who may be labeled "gender critical" are not going to be able to adopt that cult-like behavior the TRAs have. I hope people just recognize to work in your lane knowing others will do it differently. It's death by a 1000 mosquito bites that will bring success. Different strokes for different folks and that applies to your actions and to what actions reach people.

This conversation is so important.... we need to protect children from irreverible decisions.. after all you're not even allowed to have a tattoo in the UK until you're over 18 because it's a permanent thing and you might regret it later.... so much more so puberty blockers and cross-gender hormones.. talk first, act later.... and don't make irreversible decisons without fully understanding all the consequences... the medical profession has a lot to answer for!!
Can I also recommend Simone de Beauvoir's 'The Second Sex' - she has a good understanding/explanation as why a certain % of young women find going thru puberty particularly challenging, more so than the average, leading to body disgust etc. I think it could be helpful to read, especially for young women who are looking to transition to "solve ' their problems. It might help them stop and think before proceeding down a damaging medical route they could seriously live to regret.

As a gay poc, I would never consider a gay person to be in a relationship with a trans to be a homosexual relationship. I would probably be rude about it too. I don't care if it hurts people's feelings. Opposite-Sex couples are different from Same-Sex couples. One thing that I hate about this debate is that people's boundaries and spaces are being invaded. Can I have one fucking space in the world where I don't deal with this bs? And before anyone replies about gay marriage, I have long argued that the government should have gotten out of marriage and used civil unions instead. Same with the gay wedding cake thing, find another business that will give you that service.

Well said. I saw someone on Reddit the other day arguing with a man who said something like "I'm a man and don't care much for fashion and designer names." He never said that other men can't like fashion-- just expressing his opinion. Someone jumped down his throat saying "some men like fashion" then drilling him with questions like "how is fashion not a man thing when designers make clothes for men?" "why would you assume men innately dislike fashion?" "But what does your gender have to do with disliking fashion?" This person implied that there are no generalized preferences or behaviors of men and women which is ridiculous. Sure there are outliers but this person pretended to be oblivious of all generalities.
It was cuckoo. It's like these are pod people are something. As a bi woman, I totally get it. Being in a relationship with a man or a woman is completely different. I hate how these people are trying to erase the observable differences in men and women. We should be celebrating these differences, and playing to our strengths, not denying reality.

I see a possible future where paedophilia is destigmatised as another sexuality, and then therapy designed to treat it gets defined as conversion therapy. That is the logical conclusion. The societal stigma towards paedophilia needs to be maintained.
I’m not sure you get it. The point is that some men who molest children can’t actually change their desires. What they have to do is resolve to change their behaviour because acting it out is so harmful to children. Men who resolve to do this need to be supported rather than shamed, because we want to see them succeed in controlling their behaviour. Stigmatising and shaming undermines the effectiveness of child protection initiatives.
Most child molestation is done by opportunist men not paedophiles. If you derive satisfaction from being righteous, I suggest you focus on them

Nothing causes reason to depart more powerfully than this issue. I guess that’s why BB doesn’t dare to go there. I wish he’d interview James Cantor on the irrational, aggressive pushback he’s received. I don’t know all Cantor’s opinions on the matter, but i do know that the use of social stigma pushes people into dark corners and puts children more at risk

Completely agree with Sinead on so many points. On the preferred pronouns I try to meet people in dialogue where they are at and approach them with compassion and respect. At the same time totally get why people resist it and see their pov too. It definitely is tricky to navigate. I have a limit too similar to what Sinead pointed to.

I appreciate the discussion about "normality" and the "ideal" as related to sexuality/reproduction, and the (virtual) acknowledgment that on Evolution or on Creation (as the logicians speak), there is a functional reason sex exists at all.
(I don't so much appreciate referring to the latter possibility as the "religious" perspective though. You can pretend you've observed amphibians evolving into reptiles, or dinos into birds, or whatever, but of course you haven't, so it too is a faith-based belief system (religion). Your high priests might call themselves scientific, but in case you haven't figured it out yet, they haven't observed any such things either ; )
And I think the bulk of the difficulties in dealing with these "identity" based issues, arise when the pleasure/attraction realm, is treated as a ration basis for approaching something that is clearly based in the reproductive reality of sex realm. There are no males "transitioning" into females, or vice versa, so the terms "trans-woman", and "trans-man" are fundamentally irrational, as presently used in "polite" company. Might as well call a short person who wears pumps "trans-tall", or the person who uses tanning lotion "trans-racial". Once that pleasure/attraction-based lingo was accepted, things like the 'P' being added to the alphabet soup of "gender identities" became effectively inevitable, as well as the virtual takeover of women's sports by men presenting themselves as if women. And of course the related quasi authoritarian assaults on free speech in the name of inclusivity/diversity, as well as the normalization of treating children as if magically capable of rightly understanding the ramifications of "transitioning".
In short, I think we've allowed a Pandoras box of "Cluster B" personality disorder delights to be opened, and suspect by Cluster B types, for Cluster B types (with one of the goals being the non-disorder reclassification of Cluster B types. (Diversity is our strength after all ; )
Evolution is observable within a lifetime, though.
@@clairehann2681 - Sure, the kind that involves selection from among the "coding" that is present in living things. That is observable (in a lose way of speaking), but the kind that involves a given creature line "evolving" into a radically different sort of creature line, that is not possible to observe, but merely to imagine.
It sounds like he is using the same methodology that Darryl Davis uses. I imagine it has got to be difficult and frustrating to use, but it can produce some amazing results

It may help you to realize that the "daddies" create the "daddy issues".
The biggest takeaway I got from this was that Sinead is not down with Identity Politics. That she has to devote so much energy and time to hammering this very simple truth home to strangers is a sad indictment of the current state of human communication and thinking in The West.
I find Sinead eminently intelligent, dignified, and compassionate, but one thing I flat-out disagree with is that having a mother and father should be/is the "ideal," or that this idea is "common sense." Men and women are both capable of being TERRIBLE parents, and even today most men do not consider childcare to be equally their job compared to the mothers of their children. Therefore, a same-sex couple is more likely to split the childcare and household duties in an equitable way. Of course, a sterotypical man and woman can be ideal parents, but this is equally true for same-sex couples or single parents with their cohort (because it always takes a village). I hope Sinead can consider this stance, though I doubt she has the time or desire to be perusing the comments.
I would love to have a conversation with her, about this and much more!
During the 50s and 60s the big advocacy group for the mentally disabled was the American Association for Retarded Children. My family was active in it for years. But the term disabled is really more accurate because that's exactly what many are - something is broken in the neurological system. Retard as a slur? Don't see that as one of the super-uglies. But slurs are getting rare. Think of how many ethnic/racial slurs existed around 1965 for black people, Italians, Jews, Hispanics and Asians (add in Irish and Poles too.)
@Sinead @BenjimanBoyce All hands on deck. I do not understand the segregation amongst those who are alarmed. I'm not sure if I am purely an abolitionist or something closer to a moderate..I travel among various groups and they all seem to want to go it alone. Where I am seeking alliances & understanding..there is overlap but no consensus. And you mentioned that if we can't have a discussion about male sexuality without it being reduced to perversion..( paraphrasing) well..how tf are we supposed to move forward?? How do we move forward and protect children & other mentally vulnerable people? I pushed back against sex based stereotypes for 20+ years only to see a world that now says if boys like dolls and dresses they are girls & if girls like rough & tumble or short hair they are boys..Men aren't seen as compassionate and have been reduced to parasitic brutes dragging their knuckles & dodging responsibility..while Women are told to sell themselves(forget Motherhood,they're a product), oversexed, and as always reduced to selling whatever product strikes an ad exec's fancy..oh and now they are being reduced to their reproductive function. Gee no wonder Men seek to escape into womanhood..it looks like their sexuality is celebrated. And Women seek to escape into manhood..where they are allowed to be strong & not sexed & sold..

I always prefer to preserve friendship with people who think differently from myself, except when those thoughts are a dealbreaker.
This is a very interesting conversation, very insightful. However, I still think that the word retard still holds more weight than people think. Not to censor of course, but my younger brother is disabled and has just been found to have an incredibly rare genetic disorder. It is unfortunately a word that is still used in a very derogatory way towards those with disabilities and disabled people, rather than those who are just stupid. They do understand exactly what it means and unfortunately my brother and people who he has been friends with have been attacked with this word in public. It can obviously really hurt them and thus it extremely disappointing when that still isn't realised in the name of free speech.
Do you think that if that word were never used again, bullies would stop bullying disabled people?

Pedophilia is often confused with underage sex. Sex with minors under the age of legal consent is NOT the same as sex with pre-pubescent children. Media reports confuse this.?
It's very unfortunate but it seems that the inevitable consequence of using preferred pronouns is males in women's prisons/sports/trauma groups/shortlists etc
Pronouns aren't respectful. Pronouns are shortcuts. Gender specific pronouns are exclusively third-person. If somebody demands I use their pronouns, I simply don't talk about them when they aren't there. If I had to talk about them when they weren't there, I would generally use their name because I'm probably talk to some kind of official. (like a cop or a superintendent. This is hypothetical. I've never actually been in this situation.)
I've often said this. 3rd person pronouns are rude when the person being referred to is present, so in theory it should be impossible to misgender someone in front of them. (Not that I'm saying it would be okay when they aren't present.)

It happens sometimes, and I wouldn't consider either of those uses as rude(?) Infrequent, but not as rare as some people argue. (The hypothetical subject is within earshot in both scenarios.)
@@RaefonB Yeah you're right, these 'earshot' situations are common. I was being a bit theoretical. I don't experience 3rd person pronouns as rude once the name has been used first, but I have been in situations where I've been referred to as 'she' straight off and found it jarring (cisgender woman, no gender element to that reaction). I feel there may be some differences among the English speaking nations with regard to norms around this.

Like when I used to work in retail, if a customer had a complaint and we had to get the manager over, I'd be very careful to say 'this lady' (or 'this gentleman'), i.e. not just 'this woman' or 'she/her'. It would have felt rude. I'm UK-based, if that's useful at all.
@@RaefonB Yep I'm in the UK too and that's exactly what I mean. 'This lady' is fine but of course gendered in itself and potentially problematic as a result. I've had 'she' used to refer to me in situations like this by American English speakers and it really felt...different.

Therapy to the best we know it, is sadly not very successful. In my clinical experience, self reports on whether MAP urges/inclinations are or are not acted on are unreliable.

The exchange about the R word in the beginning shows how ableism is still acceptable in circles where sexism and racism are not. I assure you, no one with an intellectual disability supports the use of the R word, nor does anyone appreciate being the butt of a joke that denigrates them.
