I just found this video and finished my first batch of Aussie meet pies ever! They tuned out even better than I was hoping for. I was shock at how good they where. I’m a middle aged man who has gotten by on an obscene amount of take out for my of my life. In fact, I found this video because the cafe around the corner stopped selling them. SO EASY TO MAKE! I don’t know what rissoles are, but I think their next. So happy I found your channel. Thank you Aussie girl! You really can cook!
naww thank you so much. im really glad you liked them and thank you for the comment. you gotta try dads rissoles first lol. you should feel right at home here i have a lot of homemade takeaway recipes as well. have a great day douglas 😁
I’m an Aussie living in the UK for 15 years. The first thing I do when landing back in OZ is buy a meat pie!! Just made your recipe... you’re a life saver! Will definitely not die of meat pie cravings anymore😆 OZ meat pies are the best in the world!
lol that is so awesome Dominic glad i could help with the cravings. aussie pies really are quite special. have a great day mate :)

So loving your videos and vibe 👏👏👏💪🔥
thank you 😊💜🍻
My Dad and Gran are Aussies (from Melbourne) I made these and Dad said it was absolutely amazing he squeezed some 'Tommy K' through the hole in the top and said it reminded him of a four n twenty, he was in heaven. He nagged me for the secret ingredients, so I sent him your video. I think Mum will be making batches of these every week. thanks, much love & gratitude, Nicola x
BTW I haven't seen my Dad smile like he did eating the pie, at 79 he's had a nasty run in with COVID (6 weeks ago) and was in bed for nearly 3 weeks, it knocked him clean off his feet. Barely eaten, the pie has been a revelation, his words 'best thing I've eaten in the 55 years he lived here in the UK❤️❤️
nawww that is so awesome i hope he is getting there now. much love Nicola thank you so much for the feedback. have a wonderful night mate xo
Thanks for this as a Aussie girl living overseas this is what I miss the most. I’ll be trying this recipe out this week.

My 5-year-old son loves to cook. He has been asking to make ausie girls meat pies. He's just made them(closely supervised) following your video step by step. Nailed it!
Naww how cute what a good mum taking the time to cook with your boy xo give the little fella a big hug from me and tell him Aussie girl said well done im very proud of you. keep cooking little man xo. have a wonderful day Kate thank you for the comment xo 😊💜💐🥂
Hi from California 🙂........I was watching Crikey, it's the Irwin's today......while on a road trip Robert said " I'm going to get a pie".......I thought he meant a dessert ......then with pie in hand he explained it was a savory pie and so GOOD ( hed bought pies there before)............it looked delicious.........I checked you tube for recipes and found yours........I'm going to use ground turkey meat........your video is much easier and less expensive than another one i watched......he used a wok and pie machine with dough cutters ( i dont have any of those)............look forward to trying an Aussie Pie.........by the way - love your accent.......also love to hear the British accent...........thanks for sharing the recipe........i think it would also be good if chicken were used.........chicken pies are very popular in America
Gday Lee welcome mate. i do love chicken pies. Enjoy your turkey pies and have fun making them. have a great arvo xo 😊💜🥂
I'm ancestrally African but grew up in NZ and Australia. Australia is my home now, and I love Aussie pies! But I get so sick of those frozen storebought pies which are like 10% meat and then just 90% of that weird gooey slosh(not even gravy). Finally, a recipe I can try to make a REAL Aussie pie at home.
*Extra tip with measurements, when filling the pastries, instead of 1/4 cup + 1TBs, I think 1/3 cup would be perfect then! 👍😁
Your whole channel is criminally under appreciated
naww thank you Dennis so nice of you to say. it will get there hopefully lol. have a great day mate :)
Bloody hell, finally a simple recipe I can follow to make a basic meat pie that looks and tastes just like I remember getting from the local milk bar. Thanks so much Aussie Girl! Looks like I aint gettin back to Oz anytime soon, and there are way too many "pie recipes" on UA-cam that talk about using all these fancy ingredients that I know are not in a basic pie. No way I the local shop is using prime steak and fancy herbs I ain't ever heard of and couldn't find in the grocery store even if I wanted to. You are awesome. I'm gonna checkout your sausage roll reciepe right now too.
nawww thank you Cameron your so welcome. hopefully youll find a few videos to help with the oz cravings stay safe my friend and have an awesome night mate :)
how you doing cameron are you any closer to getting home yet :)
@@aussiegirlcancook nah I don't expect that will happen for a few years at this rate. But that's ok, if my biggest problems are a few cravings of home, i ain't got nothing to complain about. BTW, I did follow your recipe above - worked perfect around Christmas! It's crazy how expensive simple sheets of "puff pastry" are here where I am. Something like $2.50 per sheet! I learned how to make my own short-crust and it worked just as good. Making my own puff pastry seemed like a real chore.
@@zzQUEzz im glad your all good. wow thats expensive for puff. nice you make your own short crust good on ya. yes puff pastry is def alot of work lol. take care Cameron stay safe and healthy mate :)

Hi from California! I grew up in Australia and I miss meat pies so badly! 😭
I'm definitely going to try this! Loved this video! You have such an awesome personality, it made the video so fun to watch! I laughed when you ate the spoonful of filling in the background and said "I knew I was going to eat that"! 😆😂
Wow, I just checked out your channel and subbed to you! I'm so impressed by how many videos you put up in such a short length of time! It's a serious shame you don't have more views. Do you utilize hashtag phrases and keywords when you upload? I'd love to see you be super successful, you certainly deserve it! 😃 (pro tip: if you put hashtags in your video description, they'll show up as blue hashtags under your video. Also, I've read a bunch of stuff that suggests using phrases and terminology in your description that are related to your topic and video title will put you higher in the search bar...so you could do I write up that uses those keywords repeatedly, like, "Today we are learning how to make Australian meat pies at home etc etc )
Hope that helps! There's tons of articles online you could find for more tips about the UA-cam game 🙂
thank you so much :)
thank you for your kind words thats awsome thanks for all the little tricks etc... i gotta say im not very good on computer i cook i film i edit and i upload i taught myself the basics to get threw and thats it. lol have yourself an awsome day jessica as soon as the older kids come up ill get them to check this stuff out for me. i cant thank you enough :)
I was in Australia and loved the minced beef pies. The mince filling has an amazing savoury taste you don't get in the UK. Thanks for the video. Just a thought, but you could make the bottom bit more easily by using maybe a small saucer as a template.
@@charlottejameson8924 Oh that's interesting! Here in the States there are a couple of Aussie meat pie shops, but they don't have that authentic taste either.
Just found your channel. I do miss a good old Aussie meat pie, but now I can make your recipes. Thank you from the Med.

G'day! I have a lovely Aussie friend, and I want to impress him - will this recipe do that? Also, do you ever use ground lamb in this recipe?
nawww how cute. yes you can use lamb. do you both live in Australia or are you overseas. if your both overseas yes this will impress him. if you both live in Australia i would go with the Ned Kelly Pie to impress. have a lovely day Amy xo
I'm American, he's Australian, and we both live in America. I just watched your Ned Kelly pie video, and it looks lovely too. Big hug to you, for making great videos. Please include more recipes with lamb!
Thank you for this video. Very nice. When I cook my mince, I add to a skillet and also add about a cup of water. The water breaks up the mince to the point that it's very small and a very even texture. The water boils away as the mince cooks. I got the idea from Taco Bell, here in the US. This is what they do for their taco meat. Good Day!
if you use chicken stock instead of water you will get a real rich taste. thanks for the comment Nancy have a great day mate :)
@@aussiegirlcancook How true!
Biggest problem here in the USA is getting the pre-made crusts with nice square edges. The makers all assume you are making a round pie! Vegemite is available on Amazon here, or in the fancy food stores who charge double for it... probably bought it from Amazon anyway!
i do have a recipe for home made pie crust here somewhere if you like i will find it if that helps :)
@@aussiegirlcancook A home made crust would indeed help! I can work with a good recipe, but want to make it as close to real as possible.
as soon as i can locate the recipe ill put it here for you. have a great day Thomas :)
ok found it i love using this pastry for meat and chicken pies
this is enough to make 1 large family sized pie so double up for small pies atleast
in a large bowl add 3 cups plain flour 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 1tea sp salt 1 tea sp pepper....mix well.....add 200g butter chopped in little cubes. rub together with fingers til it forms a crumble......add 2 eggs and 1 table sp cold water mix a little with a spoon....then with hands squeeze together until you form a ball...knead in bowl for cple minutes divide in half roll in 2 balls and cover glad wrap fridge 30 mins....pre heat oven 220 degrees c or 200 degrees c for fan forced
roll 1 ball between 2 sheets baking papper lay over greased pie dish...make sure filling is cold when you put it in roll 2nd ball and lay over top.....get a little milk and egg yolk mix together then brush over pastry.....bake up to 1 hour until pastry is golden brown....
@@aussiegirlcancook Thank you so much! Time to get busy cooking. Great recipes!

Great pies, thanks for sharing.. One question for you..When I went to primary school, we had the best mince rolls, My God they were good....I've been searching for years for that recipe. Would you know what they used to make the authentic aussie mince rolls? I loved them soooo much..I would travel all over Australia to learn that recipe..Thanks..
i think you might be talking about sausage rolls maybe. i have a recipe on my channel if that helps. have a great night Sam
@@aussiegirlcancook They were served with the hamburger rolls. Savory Mince rolls..Man I miss them...But it's cool...I've seen all your sausage rolls recipes. You know your cooking..lol Just wish I could find those rolls again..

This looks amazing!! What kind of pan is that?!?!?
its called a 12 hole muffin tin. you can find them in supermarkets in the baking isle or you can get them from big w and kmart etc. have an awesome day Rachel 😁
wow vegemite in a meat pie, im an Aussiee too. but ive never heard of it, you must have a really awesome oven my oven takes 45mins to go brown for my puff pastry
lol no its a really crappy electric oven do u pre heat it first ? :)

Yeah I do but it still takes a good 40-45mins
its weird how all ovens are different i used to have a gas oven when i moved in here it was electric i burnt everything for the first 3 months til i got used to it lol. have a great night Ebony :)
Maybe your oven door seal is leaking the heat out ... quite common on an older oven. ... get a oven thermometer and check.

@@aussiegirlcancook thanks 💕
Thank you so much for a brilliant video! Do you have any tips on how to do this if I don't have muffin/pie tins? Take care, from Norway!
the only thing i can think of is if you have a heat proof dish instead of single pies you can make one big family sized pie. im not sure if they sell little throw away pie foils over there they are really cheap to buy if they do. i hope this might help have a great day Paddekaka :)
@@aussiegirlcancook Thank you so much! I'm thinking of buying proper pie tins, but I don't make pies that often. Making a big family sized pie is an idea though. (Or do aussies loath big pies? haha)
well if you buy the tins you have an excuse to make lots of cupcakes and muffins lol. no we got no problem with size as long as we dont have to chew much lol .have a great day Paddekaka
@@aussiegirlcancook Me again, haha. I ended up buying pie trays, but I encountered another problem: We don't have vegemite (or marmite) in Norway!! Too sad. Do you have any suggestions on what I can substitute it with? Thanks so much for all your help so far!
@@Paddekaka honestly ive made them plenty of times when i havent had vegemite and there still awesome if you havent had them before you wouldnt even notice the difference :)

Can you make these in advance? How would you store the leftover pies? Could you make the filling and freeze it? Thanks!
to make them in advance and store left overs you would cook them all when cold cover in fridge for up to 3 days then reheat them when your ready. you can make the filling and freeze it no problems it freezes well and the pies freeze awesome too you can cook them from frozen in a pre heated oven 180 degrees c. have a great day Gillian :)
