I like Amish paste tomatoes a lot. It’s one you might try growing especially if you can any of your tomatoes. It produces very large meaty tomatoes. God bless you and your family. Duane.

I tried the brads atomic grape last year, wont mess with them again. Split resistant just isn't true and they really didn't taste all that great. Hope it works out for you.
I grow San Marzano every year for salsa, I also grow Amana Orange and Dr. Wyches Yellow to put in the salsa for extra color(of course I eat some too). Most people always grab that salsa before they go to the all red tomato salsa.
I think just about everybody grows Cherokee Purple. I grow a couple of those because my Dad really likes them and he isnt able to garden any more. They aren't my favorite but I do think they have good flavor. They just dont seem to be as productive for me as other beefsteak varieties.

They have a similar flavor profile, and produced like gangbusters in my Ohio garden last year. San Marzanos are a good paste tomato, but keep an eye out for blossom-end rot. Hi Jerrel, Thank you for the comment. I got my grow lights from Lowes. They are 4 ft long LED lights grow lights made by general electric. I use two of them for each shelf to get enough light. I like them because I can link several of them together to increase the lighting, they are easy to move up and down by adjusting the chains that hang them, and they are also water resistant so I don't have to worry too much about water dripping onto them if my trays leak a bit. I know there are many different lights out there to choose from so it can be hard to figure out what would be best. I initially picked these up because they were easy to get. I have heard that you can use regular shop lights as well. When I expand my seed starting area I will probably look at some alternatives because it would be nice to have one light per a shelf with more evenness in light across the whole area, and the lights I have had a slight red tint that hurts my eyes when I am in there too long.

@@andrewmartin2953 Roma type tomatoes are much more prone to BER than slicers or cherry tomatoes. Just like skin cracking can be considered a watering issue, but why deal with varieties with BER or skin cracking if there are varieties that don’t have those issues. Just my personal opinion.

If the sun gold tomato splits to much for you. There’s another variety called Sun Sugar and the skin is a tab thicker and isn’t as likely to split. If the Cherokee purple has problems, there is a dwarf variety called rosella purple that is almost the same flavor and has more disease resistance. Good luck with your new adventure with tomatoes.

Thank you! I have made a note to try those two. Are those your favorite tomatoes to grow?

Black Krim is one of my favorite tomatoes. I think Cherokee Purple and Black Krim taste very similar but CP is a poor producer for me so I prefer BK. I didnt care for the taste of Black Prince and they only set fruit if it was cooler weather. As soon as it started getting a little hot they quit producing for me.

Oooh interesting. When I tried Cherokee Purple before, it didn't' produce too much either. Perhaps Black Krim is worth trying this year. If Black Prince only produces in cooler weather then it may not be a good choice for me. Maybe if I plant it in a place with afternoon shade, that might help. Thank you for sharing and happy gardening.

@thelittlethingsinlife4822 Afternoon shade will definitely help. I grew Black Prince twice, the first year it didn't produce. The second year I planted it a little earlier and on the other side of the yard with shade late in the day and finally got some tomatoes.

@@cynthiamartinez5884 Ok good. I am so glad you mentioned that. I will have to be strategic with my black prince. I already have a place in mind. :)

B Krim and purple Cherokee have been disappointing for me the last two years. Brandywine tastes better and outproduce both for me. Hope you like yours and good luck 👍

Hmm. I'm hoping this is a better year for me as well for Cherokee purple. I added Brandywine, Cherokee Purple as well as a few dwarf varieties to my garden this year. Fingers crossed they all turn out well. Happy Gardening.

I loved Mark's Garden Life for tomato recommendations but he disappeared off the face of the Earth! I am growing Anana's Noire right now because of him.

OH! One last thing. I grew Brad's Atomic Grape last year and you need to wait until you see some orange before picking them. And they are delicious.
