  • For many gardeners, space in the garden comes at a premium. This is especially true for patio gardeners. Thus the tomatoes from the Dwarf Tomato Project would be a great choice. The Dwarf Tomato Project has been going on for 15 years, but they are becoming more and more popular each year.
This year I am growing 8 dwarf tomato varieties to see what the hype is all about. Benefits of dwarf varieties include sturdy and productive plants that are easy to grow in pots and balconies and only need resonable staking for the hefty loads of tasty tomatoes that they produce. The plants can range from 2 to 4.5 feet which is a big difference compared to some popular tomatoes that we see today.
I plan to grow my dwarf babies directly in the ground to test how they do in a regular garden space. Later I will compare them to the results my patio growing friend gets with the same seed. I will also be doing a taste test because… Isn’t that the whole point of growing tomatoes?!
Seeds have been produced by Bonny Hop Seeds and Heritage Tomato Seed.
We found our seeds at heritageseedmarket.com/
    The varieties for 2024 are:
    1. Spunky Bird
    2. Healani
    3. Dwarf Confetti
    4. Margaret Curtain
    5. Spud Viper
    6. Raspberry Mochi
    7. Daifuku
    8. Brandyfred

I never heard of a Indeterminate dwarf. Kinda cool.

Thank you for your comment. I never have either. It sounds like an indeterminant dwarf continues to grow new growth and produce more fruit within a certain height. It's going to be really interesting to see them grow.

Thanks for sharing! This is my first year growing a dwarf and I'm also growing BrandyFred. So far no fruit but I'm so excited to see how they do.

That's so exciting! All of my dwarf varieties are still very small. I am hopefully I will see a jump in growth soon as the temps are getting warmer.

I just subscribed because I love tomatoes. I will have 43 (I think) varieties growing this year and a number of them are dwarfs. Confetti and BrandyFred are the only ones that are also on your list. I have 12 other dwarfs this year and seeds for about 50 more.

Thank you for Subscribing! Sounds like you are set for an amazing harvest season. I am always interested in learning about new varieties. What would you say is your favorite dwarf and indeterminant tomato?

@@thelittlethingsinlife4822 before this year I’d only grown a couple of dwarfs so I’ll know more after this year. I love Oxheart type tomatoes because they are so versatile. All the varieties I’m growing this year are new to me and it was hard to pick what to grow as I have seeds for about 300 varieties now. I do tend to like sweeter ones over the acidic and I’m not a fan of the ones with lots of anthocyanin flavour. Hope we all have a great tomato season!

@@rowenakotelniski2603 Thank you. I have heard great things about oxheart varieties. But, haven't seen any specific recommendations. I didn't manage to grow any this year. Perhaps I will grab some seeds for 2025. 300 varieties is spectacular but understandable as there are so many our there. Happy Gardening!
