Boris here to show you how to build your own PC. The thermal paste substitute we have is mayonnaise.
Today we build a budget PC with a price point of under $500. There are some rules to the build. All components have to be new and from the store. Also no scavenging parts from old PCs. All components have to be available to buy in store. This way we get a very nice budget PC build that actually can run games.
Instead of thermal paste, we use mayonnaise to test if it is a suitable substitute. Imagine this: you build your new PC but run out of thermal paste. Run to shop but shop is closed. What you do? You of course use mayonnaise instead.
This custom budget PC is tested to play these games:
* Metro Exodus
* STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl
* Cyberpunk 2077
(wanted to test Doom Eternal too but disk was full)
Along with mayonnaise thermal paste, the vodka cooled PC that I have built before, they should make up a very powerful device with ultimate slav cooling solution. But that is something for another upcoming video.
Low budget PC builds are always fun to do, but always have to check that all parts are compatible with each other. Here is the full list of components along with details that make the $500 budget mayo PC run smooth.
Components:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.6GHz
Motherboard: Asrock A320M-HDV (falsely used Gigabyte A520MH before)
RAM: 8GB DDR4 G.Skill Aegis 3200MHz CL16
SSD: WD Green 240GB M.2
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1050Ti 4G GDDR5
Power supply: 450W Corsair CV450 80 Plus Bronze
Cooler: AMD Wraith Prism RGB M4
Thermal paste: Arctic MX-4
Mayonnaise: high quality stuff I found in fridge
Case fan: Deep Cool 120mm Blue
Case: Deep Cool Smarter mATX
Wi-Fi card: TP-Link 300Mbps ETL-WN881ND
Mayonnaise cooling is here to stay.

Loved the video for the entertainment, as always. HOWEVER, for anyone who might see this and seriously consider using mayo as thermal compound...DON'T.
This concept was tested back in 2011 by Hardware Secrets, and they determined that yes, mayo does work well as a thermal compound, but only for a short time. Its performance degrades after a couple days. At the end of their 12-day test, they noted significant oxidation of the CPU lid. Who knows what it would do to your CPU or motherboard over a longer period.
Mayo basically works as a thermal paste because when heated it reverts to being mostly a thin oil, which fills the voids and provides a pretty good thermal transfer interface. The downside is that it also contains lots of organics (eggs!), so it deteriorates quickly. Part of what makes a commercial thermal paste "good" is its ability to retain a stable viscosity over long periods of time, and during multiple heat/cool cycles. Mayo(nez) may be delicious, but it's not known for thermal stability. ;)
Soo, i take it Mayonez is a good temporarily/emergency remplacement.
So you are saying, replace mayonez every 3 days?

Why, he prolly has way more then that.
*mayonez
I did a bit of research, and I found that while it is more effective at 1st, mayonnaise is gonna oxidize the cpu and cooler after running for a long time. Not only that, its performance as a thermal compound gets somehow worse, but stabilized after some time. Though I saw these results were done using Hellman's mayonnaise. I'm hoping that Boris' homemade mayonez doesn't run into these problems tho ...

There are plenty of substances that have better thermal conductivity than actual thermal paste. The trick is getting them to stay there, not damage anything, last for YEARS so some lazy tech-support dude can forget about it AND have it at a decent price-point too......
The case was open the second time )
@@RainmakerAnton It was open the first time too. The difference here though was the orientation, with the thermal paste, Boris had the case standing upright, and with the mayonnaise, it was laying on its side (probably so the mayonnaise didn't run out and drip over everything when it heated up) which probably affected the thermal convection.
Speaking of Boris losing it completely, here we are a year later.

You can keep gopniks out of your computer case by playing American pop music. This does not work on ants and mice though.
Same problem when you use tooth paste instead of thermal paste. ants are not a problem they stay away from the heat but small lizards or roaches tend to come for the heat then get electrocuted and die near the processor fan. The solution to that is make sure the casing does nit have unwanted holes or when breaking the hard drive rack make sure you seal it before you close it.
@@De1tAStreaM tooth paste?

@@whoami1449 well yes tooth paste is very good liquid to trap heat quicker and expell. It's ine of the things you pick up when you do electronic engineering. We actually found out it's extremely useful when we were constructing embedded systems. Due to the cpu of embedded system sizes being small when you maximize memory usage you can see max heat go upto 70- 106 °C in which thermal paste doesn't help (it actually makes it worse as it adds yo more overheating).
If you worked with used electronics before, you probably already know about those horror stories where a console or PC becomes a nest for cockroaches or mice.
It gets worse with mice if they get defensive or if they decide to bite through cables.
