Hey Tim, I've been following for a couple of weeks now. I've been considering getting into Hot Shot driving but timing doesn't seem right. Also, taking into consideration that I don't have the funds or equipment to get started. Yes, I may have answered my question but wanted to know if you have any other advice. PS. Like your channel.
People need to realize just because you have eleven hrs to drive on your clock it doesn’t mean you will be able to drive the eleven hrs because of time management you need to figure out we’re your going to park for the night and if you’re primary stop doesn’t work out then you need a back up place to stop. Great information as always

I got a quote today from progressive. I want to run some on my weeks off from work. I’m a 7 day on 7 day off schedule. 3/4 ton ram 2500 and a 35ft gooseneck. Insurance was 29,750$ for the year. How on gods creation do people afford to do this? 2500$ month just in insurance. Crazy. Much respect to you guys getting it.

Great Job!!! Planning is crucial. Retiring from the Navy in 2025, the sacrifice the family makes to support your dreams. Thank you for your honesty. Be safe!!!!
Spent 11 months 5 days active duty Navy in '12 & '13. Was trucking not even a year after being discharged. Been at it since. Been an owner operator for 7 out of my 11 years. Have my own authority and such, but always Class 8. Never hotshot, but been thinking about trying it out.

Meaning you can have all these factors you said checked and yet still not making the money. Brokers look out for themselves. Also to piggy back what you said, have common sense to know you gotta exit in 3 miles get in the correct lane ahead of time. Hard to get over with a long trailer and truck just to say the least.
Absolutely, having a solid plan is crucial in this industry. You're right-brokers can be focused on their own bottom line. It's all about being proactive and using common sense to navigate the challenges, like planning your exits well ahead of time. Thanks for sharing your insights!

Good very solid advice, I wish you cold have mentioned the discipline it takes. A lot of first timers think it’s a big party bars, street festivals. 85% of this job driving, very long days that takes a person to be safety conscious.
You're absolutely right! Discipline is key in this line of work. It’s not all fun and games-safety and staying focused during those long hours are crucial. Thanks for pointing that out!
Yes sir I’m starting up right now, switching from OTR to Hot Shot OTR. It takes a lot of grinding on days you just hate your job, but then something great happens. Family is key, support is also needed. God bless my brother, plz be safe.

Thank you for this REAL content. My Wife and I are considering doing this when we need to make ends meet but it does seem like something that may not be the best option for us if only going to haul a couple times a month. Thank you.
Yes, unfortunately, the overhead with insurance and equipment is too high for it to be a weekend gig. However, you can start with a 1-car hauler and focus on local work to get your feet wet and build up from there
I do hotshots with my wife we go together 1 week 7 days then home 7 days and again 1 week out. Works for us and we have my kids when we are back and they go with their mom when we are gone. Making good money working 6 months out of the year.

This setup you’re commenting on isn’t a non-CDL setup; it’s registered as a combined weight of 45,000 lbs. For non-CDL drivers, the maximum allowable weight is typically 26,000 lbs for the vehicle, with a combined weight of 26,000 lbs or less, depending on your state’s regulations. Please look into my older videos where I discuss non-CDL operations and setups!
Absolutely, family first every time! Money comes and goes, but time with loved ones is priceless. You can’t get that back once it’s gone. Appreciate the wisdom, bro!
Question how much a person need to get started? I been trucking for 10 years and I'm just learning about hot shot drivers yesterday. Now doing my research
It all depends on the direction you’re looking to go. Leased on? Own authority? Do you already have a truck etc. But I would say between 20-30k depending on your financial situation and to have at least 10k in reserves after you’ve started.
Most definitely welcome bro! Give our office a call @ (832) 500-0043. We have a few we can recommend and some we work closely with. Thanks for your service too!
You’ll need to have your DOT number, proof of insurance, and any necessary permits, depending on the load. If you’re hauling overdimensional or specialized cargo, additional permits and escorts might be required. Make sure you’re up-to-date on regulations to avoid fines!
