      Yeah and a thing so many people tend to forget is that it most of the time comes down to personal preferences. I prefer macOS, some prefer Window and some prefer macOS but can't afford it because (and even Apple enthusiasts like me can't deny this) Apple products is expensive.
      But saying that buying Apple products is stupid just dumb.

      dodekeract - Sure I know what it is, you assumed it was used in your example, it isn't. As for Node.js, used it a few years ago, it's ok. As for C compiler thousands use it everyday with little issues, maybe you're doing it wrong. Not trying to be a jerk but I know lots of people who write code, they seem to have no issues using compilers unless of course, they screw up.

    I'm amazed you didn't mention Final cut optimization! That also makes macs cheaper, mainly because you don't need insane hardware to decently edit videos. That's a huge reason in my opinion.

    • @JJSogaard

      And just software/hardware optimization in general

    • @TheTCOLL

    • @Henry_Jr_Watsson
      @Henry_Jr_Watsson 8 років тому

      Not per se. It's just final cut pro that is known to work insanely well on even very low end hardware. Except for that, I have not encountered a program that I use that works anything but equal on an Mac when compared to when on a Windows.
      For a good laptop, take a look at the Asus UX305. Spec-wise it is better than the Apple MacBook, benchmark wise too, size-wise too, batterylife-wise too and it also has an perfectly calibrated display right of the bat while costing only 699 USD. Windows based machines are just starting to play catch up to Apple's machines, but for less than half the price while retaining the Apple-quality.

    • @JJSogaard
      @JJSogaard 8 років тому +2

      I agree. Also I often hear people saying that if you bought a Windows PC with the same specs it would be much cheaper (which is partly true) but look at ZenBooks. They have similar build quality and are almost as sleek as Apple hardware and they are almost as expensive. When you buy a Mac you pay for good build quality, a good OS, software/hardware optimisation and more, which you simply won't get with cheap Windows plastic shitpiles (not that I'm saying there aren't good PCs and that Windows isn't a perfectly fine OS). For me at least I am certain that Mac is the right option but that is different from person to person.

  • @SimonHodgkiss
    @SimonHodgkiss 8 років тому +33

    1) Point I think that you forgot to mention or at least one that applies to me especially is macs run for a lot longer than PC's without any problems!
    My first Macbook Pro spent around 98% of its time turned on for the best part of 5 and half years.
    In comparison to my old windows laptop I managed to burn out 2 motherboards in space of 5 days!! And it was dead after only 2 years maybe 3.
    Macs are built to last and run forever and ever :)

    • @Hoi_A
      @Hoi_A 8 років тому +3

      I agree, a good example would be, I got a windows laptop (from Lenovo) and the hinge broke after around 1 year of use, now I'm writing this on a MacBook that has been functioning fine since 2011 :P

    • @SimonHodgkiss
      @SimonHodgkiss 8 років тому

      +Hoi_A Exactly Macbook Pro is more expensive but build quality is far superior to any Windows laptop! I've got a new 2015 Macbook Pro which is only like 2 months old and it's insane against my 2009 Macbook Pro which finally decide to die on me.

    • @kenoalbatros
      @kenoalbatros 8 років тому +1

      +Hoi_A well I have a laptop from Lenovo too for over four years now and it's still fully functioning and also not broken :D
      Back then it was like 600€ I think.

      I guess the term media you're implying to is installing apps like Netflix, theCW, Hulu etc for Mac. But Apple's going to port almost all iPad apps to Mac so media won't be a problem from now on. Still gaming is a problem.

    Extremely interesting video! I too work with Windows for my career (Software installation, configuration and training). I started out on windows like most people, and was a hard core gamer for the better part of two decades. What I found most interesting about your video is that four of the five reasons you gave for preferring MacOS over windows are the same four reasons I've given numerous times to people who have asked me about why I use the Mac OS on my personal hardware when my career centers around Windows. Sometimes it's nice to have our thought processes more or less validated by hearing that a fellow professional has arrived at the same conclusion as one's self for many of the same reasons. I really enjoyed watching this one Adam. Please, do keep up the good work. I don't often take the time to comment on your videos, but I do watch and enjoy them regularly. Thank you! :)

    Thanks for this video. I am using a Mac mini from Mid 2011 and I have been thinking of going back to a Windows computer because my Mac mini has been doing some strange things over the past couple of months. It will reboot all by itself, after rebooting, Chrome will open all by itself and close all the open tabs I had been using. When I turn off my Mac mini and restart it again the next morning it will reboot four or five times before it actually loads the operating system and brings me back to my desktop where I can start using my computer again. The reason I was considering going back to Windows operating system computers is because they are less expensive than the present Mac comparisons. Since watching this video I feel it will be a better choice to stick with Mac, now which one should I buy?

Not because I hate mac os but simply because I get much more for the same amount of money (aka Dell XPS 15 near 100% Adobe RGB 4K screen and expandable to 32GB ram) and windows has finally turned around after the fiasco of windows 8/8.1.

    I feel ya man... I was an AVID Windows user until 2008-into-2009... but once I "got it", got into MAC OS... I was glued... I even started off with Parallels, that desire to use windows just faded away... now Im partnered with MAC and dont want anything else.
    HOWEVER... NOW that i need to be more MOBILE with my photography/design work... I LOVE my mac pro, iMac 5k 27" (32gb RAM, 4gb VRAM, 4.0ghz |up to 4.4ghz| quad core processor, 3TB fusion drive) and ALL my mac computers have lasted 2-3 times LONGER than ANY windows based computer I've EVER had!! Im not 100% pleased with the iPad Pro, although I LOVE IT... but i need to use the FULL #ADOBE applications, rather than just MOBILE version for my work.
    Now I can get another MacBook pro, BUT... i want a TABLET that I can use the touch screen for my photo touch ups, and such... So I've been looking at the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (top of the line ones though) for my work on ADOBE, because I can store ALL my work in DROPBOX and CREATIVE CLOUD, and I can still access my ICLOUD account on ANY web browser at www.iCloud.com! that's amazing... I can still use Pages, Numbers, Keynote, etc...
    SO... that's where I am now... I just WISH APPLE would make us a touch screen MACBOOK PRO or something equivalent to where I dont have to use TWO devices for working "on-the-go". :-/
    I havent bought a windows-based pc in ten years so Im nervous.

    I've been a Windows user for more than 15 years, and I don't know if the people saying macOS is garbage either haven't even tried macOS, delusional, or brainwashed to hate for no reason. Windows is good for gaming, but pretty much garbage for everything else, whereas macOS is balanced and has a strong point in the creativity / productivity side. Another reason why macOS is so good is the ecosystem and how every OS running on different Apple devices can interact with it as if they're one device.

    • @JJSogaard
      @JJSogaard 8 років тому +24

      I prefer macOS but I wouldn't say Windows is garbage in anyway. I must say that Windows 7 in many ways is than 10 (in my opinion, I don't like the whole tablet/PC hybrid thing) but for work both is perfectly fine for a lot of people.
      But you've got a point as there are some very good video/music editing programs that only works on Mac.

    • @raykrislianggi
      @raykrislianggi 8 років тому +17

      Abdulai Bah The main reason why Windows works for many people is because it's more accessible and is compatible with more games than Mac, not because it's a good OS. It works most of the time, but that's about it. Someone who's not familiar with managing files, registry, and keeping the hard disk clean is most likely gonna slowly kill the PC, and by "kill" I mean slow everything down until it's nearly unusable. An operating system shouldn't slow down when non-tech savvies use it.

    • @ibenzawla
      @ibenzawla 8 років тому +2

      raykrislianggi - AniMusic I have a problem with that as well and so I always dual boot with Linux. Windows 10 is attempting to address that by lettinng users do periodic factory clean up without loosing files. That said owning a computer means one should be able to do basic clean up periodically otherwise there is no need to own one.

    I started on an Apple II then went to PC around Windows 3.1.. Then around 2006 or so switched to OSX as XP was getting stale and Vista was a bomb.. Working in IT like yourself since the 90s Ive been around and learned to love my Mac. But with that being said now its 2016 and to be honest... Im starting to fall out of love with OSX or MacOS I truly feel its starting to fall behind the curve.. Sure its stable and runs flawless with no virus's I really have and still enjoy it. But I cant help being a power user very frustrated, Some tasks in Windows are so much faster and I feel like OSX is moving more towards an OS like IOS where they are hiding all the operating system stuff. I want my computer to still " BE A COMPUTER" Just to get a file path is a complete pain in the butt.. Option Click "Copy File as path name " , You cannot modify any of the new Macs much ( i have a 2011 so i was able to add ram and an SSD ) but new ones you really cant modify anything more than ram. If I want to cut & paste a file, Well I cant i have to copy and paste and then delete the duplicate file. On windows in any window even if I am in say MS Word trying to open a file I can right click, create text file or open in a new window from anywhere. I really wish Apple just made a nice bare bones unit because although I can build a hackintosh at any moment something can go wrong and for my main machine I cant be bothered.. Again guys dont want you to think im bashing ive been using OSX for the last 10 years constantly and love OSX but i feel Windows 10 is phenomenal and in some ways better these days, Esp if your a technical person your not going to have issues with virus's and crashes. Keep OSX a desktop operating system and stop hiding the file system, It just ircs me how fast and productive I can be at work on Windows 10 for some things that are many steps on OSX, I enjoy both OS's very much just lately been flirting with the idea of going back to Windows being a power user and IT nerd.

    My top 5 why I am going to leave macOs and go to Windows. To give you some perspective, I am a professional illustrator / matte painter working with Apple for many years.
    1) Apple lost focus on their creative user base. Lets say Apple shifted to consumers and i cant blame them. Follow the money!
    2) The only headless Apple i can buy is 3+ years old. I am not a fool Apple. No single word from Apple so far about a update. Very customer unfriendly. I could go to 2nd hands but i refuse.
    3) I have configured my Mac Pro and end up with a 5600 euro machine. Without an keyboard. I have configured a high end PC for 3000 euro and will outperform the Mac Pro painfully. The gab is to big.
    4) OSX and Windows are not that different anymore than many years ago. I will mis OSX tho.. but i think i will enjoy Windows 10 too.
    5) By the lack of choices, I only can go for an ATI in Dual gpu. Most of us designers, painters, 3D builders need / want Cuda to speed up processes. U can argue if Cuda will die some day or not. Its well implemented these days in software we use at this moment.
    Many in my sector switched to Windows. I dont care about a slick looking super small form-factor computer where i need to connect everything extra with a cable. Why was Apple so busy with that and not by creating the best workhorse out there. Its a very good FCX machine. So its looking like Nintendo. Great for their own software.
    Exciting times for me with a PC coming up. With the knowladge that I have a very very powerful system onder my pencil, I feels very positive. In the end, all i want is to do my job without waiting on my system to calculate shadows, lights, renders, live previews, etc.
    ps, for everyone els who is doing so basic fun like browsing, etc.. nothing special.. go for a iMac! It fits in every living room.

    This video shouldn't be "controversial" and he shouldn't have to start every second sentence with an excuse. Have you ever seen a video where they trash Apple and make this amount of excuses? No, we ended up in a place of one-sided bullying against Apple and their users. And I'm sick of it. I hope everyone who reads this and agrees with me will join me in giving all those trash talkers more resistance in the comments.

      I don't care to go around protecting Apple bro. But I agree with what you're saying. If people don't want to see that let him be dumb. More Mac OS for those who choose to enjoy. And you can run Windows and Boot Camp or Parallels which you cannot do on a Windows PC without super complicated Hackintosh. Windows will always be more popular and will always have more ravenous people in the comments defending it because of that. I agree with the Apple bashing when it comes to phones though.

Not to mention I was at the time an active musician trying to get through the process writing, recording and editing one song when everyone was switching to the (in the box) way of composing with Cubase and such. This was a nightmare driver wise and not productive unless you were willing to fork out the money every six months to upgrade your system. Also I worked in corporate retail for many years and every department that was responsible for anything creative, be it drafting advertisements, photo ops or what have you....they had used macs. I'm an old lady, compared to most computer users now, but I got my first Mac computer in 1984! Yes, that thing not much bigger than my dads shoe boxes! :) I did get one of those Commodore 64 machines, but it pretty much gathered dust till my children go old enough to tinker on it. Then Windows took over the "business" world, and I was FORCED to use "Windoze". I had a playroom at my office, and my grandson started going to work with me while he was still in diapers. I think one of his first complete sentences was "I hate Windows; Bill Gates is the devil!" He is now thirteen, and still uses Mac Computers. His mother just bought an HP laptop for her business, and my grandson told her, "you are crazy mom. You don't understand computers, and you WILL get a virus using Windows guaranteed. To make it worse, you bought an HP; that really stands for Horrible Product." I owned a Pharma Research Company; sold the business in 2009 and retired; now I have only one Windoze in my home! My embroidery machine runs on Windoze, so I have a Sony Vaio laptop hooked to the machine, but not to the network. I have another program that runs on my Mac, where I design, and then thumb drive it to the Sony. :) I built my sister a Windows machine, installed the software, and Virus protection. I told her that she HAD to keep the virus software up to date, and to NOT open any attachments from anyone she does not know. I also warned her about the Windows pop-up virus scam crap, and told her to never allow anyone but me to remote access her computer! She is actually 12 yrs older than me; so not great with computers. I did buy my oldest brother, who is 84, a Mac desktop. He had bought a Windows, because it was cheaper, but he had to take it in 3 times in the first year, because of viruses. My brother is 25 yrs older than me, and his knowledge was point, and click! :( My husband & I spent 2 weeks with him at Thanksgiving, and the first place I took him was to the Mac store in Baton Rouge. He hasn't had a problem since! I still have my Mac 128K; we are both old, but we are still kicking! :))

      It's perfectly valid - 'cos a virus is a piece of malware which is started and run unbeknownst of its user and these don't exist in macOS, fullstop. As far as ransomware, malware, troyans - all these do exist for macOS, but they cannot be called 'viruses' as they require a human element, that is an action of a dumb user who has downloaded a piece of crapware from some dodgy site and then installed / ran it.

  • @lbrown5142
    @lbrown5142 7 років тому +5

    Reason 1: So? I've used Windows my whole life and I don't hate it just because I use it a lot. If you're an Uber driver, do you hate your car because you use it for both work and personal use?
    Reason 2: It is common knowledge that Macs are more expensive. You pay more for a less powerful device, it's as simple as that. Since you stated 2nd hand PC's are so cheap, just get a 2nd hand PC and save even more! I have a custom-build desktop so I won't have to buy a new PC until my motherboard gets outdated (10 years or so). If I need more GPU, I can replace my Nvidia 960, or even add another one for 2-way SLI. Do I need more cooling? No problem, get some fans. Need more CPU than my i7-4790? No problem, buy a new CPU. Whenever I'll need more power for something, I'll always be able to buy a part and install it, rather than having to buy a whole new computer. Most Windows laptops have easy RAM and hard drive changing, which extends their life quite a bit. So no, Macs are outrageously more expensive.
    Reason 3: If I need to update, I'll just leave my PC on when I'm away. They only take a few minutes every few weeks, no big deal. As I've said, I've used Windows since 98 and I've gotten only 1 virus on Windows 7, and it was due to my stupidity of not checking what I software was downloading. With Windows 10, you have Windows Defender which is really good at catching anything dangerous. And Macs get viruses too, they are just not targeted as much. So today, the virus threat is pretty much minimized.
    Reason 4: I'll give you this one, Terminal is pretty cool on MacOS and Linux. Even though I have a dual-boot Linux-Windows setup, I've never had to use Terminal other than to install software. For me and the stuff I do, Command Prompt was always more than enough.
    Reason 5: So if you can run Windows on the Mac, why not just buy a cheaper, more powerful PC and run Windows on that? Running Windows on a Mac is basically admitting that MacOS is not good enough, so you need to run a more capable OS on overpriced hardware.
    Really, the only reason I'd use a Mac is if I needed Final Cut Pro, because it's a lot faster than Adobe Premiere. However, for most uses Windows has more software and hardware to choose from for less money, which makes it a winner.

    • @shelvihan

      @Et Immortalem I sure hope you are joking, because people like you are the biggest douchebags on the planet, just because someone doesn't want to drop 1000 bucks on a machine they can't upgrade or even look at the inside doesn't mean they are poor it just means they know what purchase is best for them. I don't buy Mac because I love video games and knowing my machine is my machine and not having a big black logo on a piece of metal and having shiz performance. I think you are some of the many reasons people hate you're plantation owner.

    Thanks for the video. I think your points were very well thought out. In regards to them beating "cheaper" I agree, the other point is if you don't sell your Mac, but keep it, it is more useful for longer than a PC, they seem to last a lot longer. Also, I think the fact that you can install Windows onto the Mac is probably the clincher. BUT can OS X / macOS wright to NTFS properly yet?

    Refreshing to hear another IT professional talk about this. I've worked as a network admin / IT manager for 20 years, and I've got to say that I love going home to my mac (hackintosh) and not dealing with all the crap I have at work.

    I'm a first time owner of a MacBook Pro and I like it. I bought i7 with 16GB RAM as I process RAW photos. On Maverick, there were lots of things I liked and few I didn't like. I didn't like that I couldn't simply change the names of a goup of JPG pictures, but now I can do that with Sierra. I love the trackpad, how fast it launches when reopening the screen. I just bought a PC for my wife because she's a teacher and mainly use MS Office. As I was setting it up, it made me realize how much I like my Mac.
