Macbook Pro oldie but goodie , and a hackintosh! iphone 11... I am disapointed with apple hardware at the moment... and the only one that catches my eye is a mac pro at the moment but its out of my reach budget wise I can't justify it

MrThaiBox123 I like them both... They both have their strong points for different areas. I can relate as I work with Windows in my IT career all day, so it’s nice to use Mac OS to have that different experience in my personal time.

I am a Mac Pro user since 2008 (2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon) , but Apple have priced me out of the new generation. Its really sad...If they came up with a starting price of around £4k, I would have jumped in straight away. I am now looking at the Hackintosh option. I don't want to go the windows route. Apple gods please help!!!

I’m right there with you! I’m able to just get so much done, and the OS stays out of my way to just let me get what I have in my head in to the computer. I don’t dislike Windows, I just want tools that work they way I think.

I use both Mac and Windows but without a doubt Mac is my preference. I feel that Mac OS allows me to multitask far more smoothly than Windows and as someone whose mobile and audio devices are also Apple it just makes my workflow so much smoother. Keep up the great videos, would love to see more videos going in-depth about the IT work you’ve done.

I've used a Mac since 2011 with a 21.5 inch iMac and loved it when I started college I bought the 2015 15 inch MacBook Pro and even bought
the 2016 version too with the USB C ports. I'm studying cybersecurity in college and thought the best thing for me would be to get a Windows
as all our labs are based in Windows. I got the Dell XPS 7590 i9 32gb ram and although it's a powerful laptop it runs loud compared to the
Mac, I've had it crash 3 times and you seem to get these weird little issues with Windows which usually a restart sorts. Anyway ill be back to the Mac soon I suspect.

    • @007knick
      @007knick 4 роки тому +1

Get a MacBook Pro and just run a windows VM. Parallels and VMware have deals for students and I think you can get a windows license for free through dream spark or it’s usually very cheap through your uni/college.

I have a Mac Mini 2012 with i7, upgraded the ram to 16gb and put in a 1 terabyte SSD and Its still going strong. I can still edit and render 1080p content without any issues and for my needs it's perfectly fine. Yes you do pay a premium upfront but the ROI is second to none.

I have been using Macs for over 5 years now and I fully agree with what you're saying. I use Macs because I love the seamless integration with other Apple devices with things like iMessage, AirDrop and even just little things like Universal Clipboard. I also enjoy using apps that are only available on the Mac like Final Cut, Pixelmator Pro, iWork with Pages and Numbers and even just little things like Tweetbot which I use for Twitter. All of these things that I've just mentioned aren't available on Windows.
I use Windows at College and use Photoshop and Premiere Pro and it's nice to use something different that just works. I'm working from home now and haven't had to use Windows for about 8 weeks and it's so nice using macOS all day for 8 or 9 hours a day. I'll never switch back to Windows, I did use it for about 5 or 6 years before I got my first Mac and it's a totally different experience.

One little feature I LOVE is WiFi password sharing with people you're in the same room as if you or they already have the password. You just need to connect to the WiFi and if someone near you on your contacts list already has the password they get the option to share it with you and it automatically enters it for you. I didn't even know it did this until I was visiting a friend and they weren't around to ask for the password but her boyfriend already had it on his phone, so he got the option to share it when i tried connecting. It was one of those "holy shit, that's useful!" features most people would probably never actually think of. I love Apple for all those "little things". They're good at sweating the details.

Great video! I agree, It def comes down to preference/needs ratio. I work in post production and use both Mac and PC to accomplish getting episodes done. I love the Mac ecosystem and the Unix foundation as it allows for easier script workflows for gfx, etc. in terms of my needs it comes down to speed and reliability. the climate nowadays is hardware/codec workflow ratios. We’ve done a bunch of Netflix content and for the longest time Apple wouldn’t upgrade the Mac Pro and in that time we were forced to upgrade to PC. Reason for it was Resolve/NVidia GFX cards. When we’re screening for a 4K HDR show we require reliability and for the moment nvidia cards and resolve reigned supreme. So we have been on the PC train for a little while but are using macs as supplemental necessities. Now that they released a new Mac Pro and Catalina is forcing 64 bit architecture amongst all programs it seems like the future will def change and software developers will adapt. Seems like it might be a slow rollout so I’m hopeful in a few years the Mac could reign supreme again in the pro environment. I guess the biggest issue was Apple wasn’t being transparent with the “pro” community for a while and was left feeling abandoned until recently. I love the trash can but I know its limits. You’re correct in minutes and seconds turn into hours and time is money. So for the moment PC reigns in my facility with macs being supplement but as far as my preference Mac is superior because if it’s simplicity of navigation and foundational architecture.

I have a PC that I built and a 2014 MacBook Air. I use the MacBook Air for everything that I can. I use the PC mainly for gaming.
I just find Windows irritating. I’m forever updating, or getting viruses (despite Anti-virus) and therefore clean installing it, and it just doesn’t work as seamlessly as macOS does. I’m sure most would agree that Windows 10 is much more reliable and stable than previous versions, but I still don’t find it quite as user friendly (compared to staying within the Apple ecosystem).
Yes, macOS does have it’s issues too, but User Experience is at the heart of Apple’s thinking, and generally its a good one.

I massively love Linux, specifically Arch (wow, who'd have guessed!) and Ubuntu. I think my love for Linux servers is why I like running a pretty high maintenance Linux install personally, as it helps me keep up my understanding for if I have any issues with a more basic install. I have a Magic Keyboard, as I personally think it's the best product in that class. However, I can't agree with the Magic Mouse at all. It's good seeing you back again. I did use Mac for quite some time, and I'd choose it any day over Windows, but the package management of Linuxes clinches it for me.

This is an age old battle. Who even cares anymore? Should just use what you prefer.
I have tried both, I prefer Windows but I honestly like MacOS significantly more than I anticipated. I decided I would buy a Macbook and try it for myself, it gave me a new perspective on the OS, I certainly like it a lot more for mobile use than Windows, the touch pad in particular was just glorious. Although the Macbook I got from eBay died within 2 months of ownership so it was a short lived experiment and now I am back to a Thinkpad.
I did a similar thing with an iPhone, Except I began to appreciate just how much smoother of an experience IOS is compared to Android, I care about the apps. My iPhone 7+ is much more enjoyable to use than my old Note 9, It might sound crazy, but I have no regrets.
Moral of my story? Don't bash it till you try it and even then, don't bother worrying about it when someone else enjoys X over Y for different reasons from yours.

I started in computers with my Acorn Electra which I still have! On work experience I was using 286’s I think for my NVQ course, then I had to move unfortunately but found work in a small IT company and started with DOS and Windows 3.11 then onto Windows 95 and beyond, when I left IT I think it was the Pentium 4 age. Haven’t been in IT for years which is a shame, probably too difficult to get back into it now and I don’t have the money for MS certs! Plus like you I can’t be arsed with building computers anymore haha... use them for work and that’s enough, I need a new Mac though.. waiting to see if they redesign the iMac this year or next.

3 reasons I use Mac. 1 is I work with Windows based systems day in and day out with my job and when I get home the last thing I want to see is another Windows based computer. 2 is Mac's just work. And 3 is resale value. Buy a £1,000 Windows laptop and in a years time you're lucky if ou can sell it for £250 where as Apple products hold their resale value for a lot longer. That said I still have a windows machine for gaming.

I prefer MACOS in general but it’s really not that much different to use from windows anymore and I can get all of the creative apps on windows as well which run better. In terms of hardware not being able to upgrade systems easily is a big issue as I don’t want to invest in an all in one to then ditch a perfectly good screen etc. Obviously Mac Pro is an option but again AMD is better than intel for multi core workloads at the moment and it’s way cheaper on windows to make a machine that matches your needs rather than an all out £5K machine which is overkill for most people.

While I've found Hackintoshing to be a viable solutions over the years for most Apple ecosystem apps, especially Logic Pro and the incredible performance gains you get from running it on non-apple hardware, I do agree that after a certain point tinkering with hardware and software constantly on these types of machines just isn't productive and creates a very different macOS experience overall. Why make a video like this if its all personal preference? You are allowed to express your personal preference but at the same time you make it seem as if these videos shouldn't exist? Also you don't understand why people express theirs in objective ways upon other people? Plus not everyone is really toxic about it, if you see someone hammering a nail with a frying pan, it is understandable that you go ahead and suggest them to use a hammer.
At the end of the day, I don't have problems with videos like these, but the intro bit was unnecessary, if you're not fussed about it, don't make a fuss about it! Do your thing, the disclaimers are unnecessary.
(I didn't dislike the video btw, I saw the dislike and I also had some criticism, just wanted to make clear these two things are not associated :b )

@@MrThaibox123 I was just hoping the video was just going to the point! I'm always interested to know why people use certain things in my search of being unbiased and understanding people's preferences beyond just the cookie cutter "yeah I like it" or "yeah it works good for this one thing because everyone said so". It is important to understand why people make choices so you can make better choices yourself and better tune your recommendations to people, plus, learning is fun.
Edit: Also, reviewers rarely ever tell you the whole story, and their word should always be taken with a grain of salt, always form your own opinion, which when you watch videos like these, you get the raw reasons as to why something could be good or bad.

    • @TalesOfWar
      @TalesOfWar 4 роки тому

The thing is I very, very, very, VERY rarely (can probably count on 1 hand) see ANYBODY EVER ask someone why they use Windows and not [insert X] unless it's for some kind of infrastructure type thing, in which case Linux is mentioned (and also in my experience Linux folk tend to be extremely aggressive in their everything else sucks stance for some reason). 9 times out of 10 when someone is asking me why I use a Mac, it's always snarky and not a genuine question they expect an answer to, they just want an excuse to make fun for not choosing what they chose which often involves calling me a sheep. Which is ironic given they're the people on the platform with 80%+ market share lol. 90% of these people also end up admitting they've never actually used a Mac and the remaining 10% generally had to use them at school or something. And let's face it, any kind of public computer is shit, regardless of the platform lol. When lots of people are using it it's going to be a mess.

It's far more consistent and even third party apps act and look like Mac apps. It's rare you get that with Windows stuff. Even Office doesn't follow the Windows UI conventions and does its own thing and its made by the same damn company! Most develops seem to want to do things their own way and ignore the way the OS does it. Adobe are a great example of this. Since moving away from the native OS interface elements their software has become less elegant and slower to use because they, for some massively ironic reason, SUCK at design!

I agree with everything you said about Macs. Been a fan for years and have shared your vids many times. The Trump statement is why I'm unsubscribing. Not that you care, just figured I'd let you know.

I was using Linux before you were born.

MrThaiBox123 Oh, you think that makes it your ally, but you merely adopted Linux. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see Windows until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!

For normal people apple shouldnt even be an option. Its a OS with specific sets of skills, but a very closed system with many things missing and that is very overpriced. Why you like it is mostly because its more exclusive, but not better really. Even simple things like window and file management is so much superior on windows that it already outweighs most of what a mac can offer. And that is the truth. Dont be a fan when using tech if you want the best, pick the one that is actually useful and meets your criteria! Youre main reasons are silly tho, no offense. Trying something new to get a feeling and then getting caught in their campaign of marketing is just letting your dominant side fail. As much as ive used macs, they have always caused more headache than joy. Its made to be different but different mostly means its more clicks and more nitpicky silly things that are not neccessery, thus makes everything slower...like the stupid animations on apple devices. IMessage is the worst and stupidest "plus" to like apple more, its just a messaging app! For everyday use stay clear away from apple, saves you money and gives you less bugs and headaches overall.
