Very interesting. What would have been your top pick of powder? great video. Might have to give this a try. I use AR2209 in my creedmoor reloads.

    DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!!!
Yeah, I wouldn't use a small amount of RL-17 for subsonic. You run the danger of flash-over. I'd use Trail Boss, as it has a greater volume, for better case fill.

Yep I agree, Trail Boss is much more bulky and definitely the better choice. Still interesting to see that I had zero issues.

Vhitavuori N32c (tinstar) is an option.
I use trailboss now but it wont last forever.
Trailboss is like chickens teeth very hard to find.

If this barrel had a 1:7.5 twist rate you may get a little more energy on target.

Using so little propellant you are bound to get flash over which will result in some inconsistencies, I would try this using a pistol or under lever powder. Good vid buddy !

No ( none ) powder manufacturer has been able to reproduce the urban myth of "flash over".
But that doesn't stop it from being passed on from one believer to another.
The 1st reloader that blew up his rifle / pistol due to a negligence double charge and explained it as too little powder, vice a double charge felt better, but did the handloading community no favor. I recall an article ( 1980's-'90 ?) in Precision Shooting covering this "phenomena " and tryed to reproduce it, even tho several powder manufacturers had tried and failed. He explained mathematically ( above my math education ) how lowering the grains of powder reduced the gas and energy produced. This was with the correct powder for reduced loads( mostly fast burning pistol / shotgun powders, with both standard and magnum primers. After extensive experiments he concluded the most likely culprit was a double charge by the reloader. Dispite the handloader stating something to the effect of " I've reloaded for decades and fired 6 or a dozen of these rounds i made today before there was a secondary explosive effect that blew my firearm up. I Know what i'm doing !"
Only happened to handloaders that Never had a double charge while using fast pistol powder at a reduced load.
An apples to oranges example would be the multitude of cars suddenly accelerating and the harder the driver pushed on the pedal, the faster it went. Driver ( many times an elderly driver that had been driving for decades ) would swear they had pushed the brake pedal, all the while it was the gas pedal. After accident investigations revealed nothing wrong with the throttle nor brakes, operating as designed, dispite the drivers insistence.
Lesson: It's usually someone Else's fault when sonething goes wrong . . .

1165 ft/sec is SUPERsonic. Speed of sound is 1125, 1086 at 32F. Gases fly out even faster. This is why the first shot had such a loud bang. Also why suppressor had such a dramatic effect (it took care of the gases).
