Same with Wounded Warrior and all the other veterans assistance programs. VA should handle it all without a problem to the vetrans and no need for other charities. So much wrong with how we do things through government.
I really want one of these! The 300 BKO had the same overpenetration issues when it came out, as most bullets are designed to penetrate and expand properly at fast supersonic velocities. A few years ago we were shooting 6.5 Creedmoor at muzzle velocities of around 3000 fps. At 100-200 yards they were penetrating and expanding to about 16-18 inches in ballistic gelatin. At 1000+ yards, they were not expanding and penetrating more than 36 inches. With the 300 BKO, it performed much better at closer ranges once bullets were developed that were designed to penetrate and expand at subsonic velocities. So this round will be better once those bullets become available to perform at subsonic.
I wonder how much of the signature is just from the primer pop. It's not nothing, we knew that as far back as WW2 when they were developing the DeLisle carbine.... Which, when you think about it, this comes close to being an updated version of.

I took two hogs with my 8.6 BLK. Both passed straight through with a 225 CX bullet and a muzzle velocity of 1,800fps. Also, do not shoot traditional cup and core lead projectiles. I destroyed two suppressors experimenting with different bullets.
They weren't using traditional lead/copper hollow points. The 8.6 only comes in solid monolithic projectiles due to the extreme twist rates. So all that is available is copper fragmenting subsonic. And they don't really work as advertised. I bought a bunch from gorilla in 300 blk and none of them fragmented in gel. That's why it is getting so much penetration. A 223 would penetrate with a similar projectile at that range.

Currently fighting the VA with REE Medical. Can confirm they are great to work with. Will follow up on this post once the process is finished if anyone else is curious.
Currently building an 8.6BLK AR. Getting ahold of the barrel and finding the ammo, if you don't reload, are the hardest things to get. Faxon is the only one currently making barrels, they made the ones for Q for this rifle. Everything else is pretty much standard for a .308 build though, even the bcg.
Just a heads up to anyone reading this - I am also at near completion of an 8" 8.6blk LR-308 build. Currently, the barrel is back at Faxon for testing since 300gr SMKs are getting jammed into the lands of the barrel (I believe the freebore in the barrel was not cut long enough) and cannot be extracted manually without the bullet separating from the case. I found that setting the bullet into the case a few hundredths deeper resolves the issue. Will update with Faxon's response if I can remember lol
Finished mine, it's so awesome to shoot other than the price of ammo. Everyone I've let try it loves it, the bullet smacking the railroad tie backstop at 100 yards is louder than the gunshot when suppressed.
I have the same thoughts as Micha, but with unsuppressed 150gr .300 blackout. That delayed gunshot sound is way different from everything I've shot before. This 8.6 however, albeit with a can, is definitely something else entirely. Y'all should try this rifle out at a 1,000 yards suppressor and all.
It’s a mix of how fast the round is moving and the projectile itself not opening up. The projectile was moving just too slow to open up, and essentially is just a slug at that point
It's really not that much energy. The heavier bullets are around 300 grains traveling 1000fps which has around 650 ft/lbs of energy which is about the same as 357 mag/10mm auto from a revolver/pistol. Supers have 1800-1900 ft/lbs which is nothing to laugh at but that's your typical 30-30 winchester load. Like 300 blackout, this is meant to be as quiet as possible. The only way to get more power out of subsonic rounds is to add bullet weight which this accomplishes compared to 300 blk.
That round literally drills through, like there was nothing there Wow! What an amazing round so far! Also we have grizzly bear, cougar around here. Already have a 300 Winchester magnum but it's not going to punch near as deep as this guy will. And all you guys thinking passed through is too far think about bones or skull you might have to punch through. It's not gel.
And that penetration makes it a terrible round for hunting and self defense. Pass through is energy wasted. The objective should always be to dissipate 100% of the energy in the target.
@@ElementofKindnessonly good for big game hunting at that point, but would have to see the energy delivered at the stop. Penetration is absolutely crazy, would like to some vests take a few rounds
You have never hunted if you don't think passthrough is important in hunting. Go watch some of the videos on how it performs on african game. Im sure you won't have issues with expansion when hitting a ribcage or shoulder of an elk.
@@ElementofKindnesscheck out discreet ballistics real-world tests on the high-rotational energy. It ensures the petals actually open up on hunting projectiles at subsonic velocities. The added benefit is a MUCH higher surface area in the wound channel, meaning more devestating bleeding. KB has plenty of animals taken on & off film with the 8.6.
I was impressed with the Fix when Ian first reviewed it, and now I’m even more impressed - both from the absurd penetration perspective (although how practical it is can be open to question) and how much fun it appears to be to shoot. I think it has the potential to be a very good scout rifle, certainly as a backup or secondary weapon in conjunction with something more general purpose. But then, I have odd ideas about what a practical use case for such weapons in a conflict scenario I - or someone else - might be involved in. And - perhaps more realistically in current usage - it seems to be intensely good fun.
The whole reason I got into .300 Blackout was the fact the round fit in AR mags and worked in AR platforms. These days I have a really hard time justifying a new caliber being added to the collection, especially considering the cost of these rounds. For now I'll stick with my bolt action .300 and Honey Badger
This video is evidence that you guys should be the definitive review on new cartridges and guns. The way you guys explain everything is a common sense picture in the mind.
Precise in their range applies to every round. 300 blackout started as a subsonic hunting cartridge. Considering nost assassinations performed with a firearm are performed at close quarters with non suppressed guns, the whole statement just seems a little poorly thought out.
When we went "downrange" and I heard the first round, I thought that's quite loud. Then I heard him loading the next round and the noise was about the same as the shot. Insane.
@machinesandthings7121 Ease of finding ammo and bullet selection either manufactured or what I reload for myself. The 450BM can sling a 200gr over 2600fps or simply sling a 395gr at 1050fps for subsonic use. I do have a 458Socom and 50 beo to also play with, and both are great rounds and effective depending on your needs. The 450BM is just way more popular cartridge and feeding it easier than most other big bores. Never seen 458 in any store, seen 50beo twice in the last 5 or 6 years, 450 is everywhere, basically.
So a bolt action 300 BO is pretty darn quiet ---much quieter than in an AR platform. But...this is a very impressive round with some unique roles ahead.
Very nice and informative video. The 8.6 Blackout seems to be a very interesting round. I wander if the bullet rotation at half a million turns per minute would create a cavitation effect if the gun was fired under water, thus allowing the round to travel straight and be effective for 50 or 60 yards. Maybe Dr. Garand Thumb is interested to test the 8.6 Blackout underwater.
Holy crap is that round and rifle setup absolutely crazy. Just imagine that rifle in an urban warzone(kind of like in the cities of Ukraine right now) and how absolutely terrifying that thing would be as a force multiplier when shooting from a position deep within a building or something. The enemy would legitimately never be able to discern where the fire was coming from during the day, and would only MAYBE have a slightly better chance at night with the proper nightvision or thermal setup. I bet you after the enemy sees a few of their buddies get absolutely smoked through their vests by that thing and not hear or see a god damn thing, theyd be moving quite differently after that. Would be pretty crazy to see what would happen in an active urban warzone if you had 5 or 6 guys equipped with one of those rifles spread out across a city, id imagine theyd be incredibly successful at stopping a force dead in its tracks, including some of their light armored vehicles. Would love to see a follow up video on the 8.6 as more R&D is done on it, and as more versions of the round are developed, plus itd just be plain fun to see how much penetration and damage it could do, whether it be on ballistic gel, a pig carcass, concrete wall, light armor, a car etc.
There's counter-sniper systems that will traces incoming bullets back to their source before a sniper's fist bullet hits. So even with a super quiet and deadly cartridge and suppressed rifle to go with it, a sniper better plan on changing his location immediately after his first shot. Preferably against the soldier with the anti-sniper detection equipment.
That’s not the kind of equipment that most have 🤣 unless you’re attempting to invade china or the US, I don’t think that system is something to worry about.
@@taraswertelecki3786 The counter sniper system needs to be deployed with microphones far apart to be accurate. It is mainly used to defend your bases. If you are going into a zone with enemies I don't think it works.
The subsonic hollow point might have been traveling too slow for expansion. But due to its mass carried enough inertia to push through all 3 gel blocks.
The twist rate compensates for the slow speed. Which is especially important for the supersonics at 725yd (which a mad lad managed to consistently shoot)
The hollow points would give me cause for concern at anything that may be behind my target that I haven’t seen. That round looks like it’d hardly slow down going through 2-3 people.

It is cheap pistol. Get yourself one of these machine guns

I took two hogs with my 8.6 BLK. Both passed straight through with a 225 CX bullet and a muzzle velocity of 1,800fps. Also, do not shoot traditional cup and core lead projectiles. I destroyed two suppressors experimenting with different bullets.
Those 8.6 hollowpoints are likely moving too slow to get expansion and are supercavitating decreasing drag and resistance through the gel.

Insane round with huge energy. I was shocked when it went straight through three ballistics gels.
Not that high energy, just massive energy retention. Note how the blocks barely shook.
It’s a mix of how fast the round is moving and the projectile itself not opening up. The projectile was moving just too slow to open up, and essentially is just a slug at that point
Discreet ballistics makes fantastic opening subs. But yeah, they didn’t expand for some reason here.
If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it.
I was impressed with the Fix when Ian first reviewed it, and now I’m even more impressed - both from the absurd penetration perspective (although how practical it is can be open to question) and how much fun it appears to be to shoot.

But then, I have odd ideas about what a practical use case for such weapons in a conflict scenario I - or someone else - might be involved in.
And - perhaps more realistically in current usage - it seems to be intensely good fun.

Ease of finding ammo and bullet selection either manufactured or what I reload for myself.

@taraswertelecki3786 but is that equipment something the average Russian squad or even platoon would have access to?
That’s not the kind of equipment that most have 🤣 unless you’re attempting to invade china or the US, I don’t think that system is something to worry about.
@@taraswertelecki3786 The counter sniper system needs to be deployed with microphones far apart to be accurate. It is mainly used to defend your bases. If you are going into a zone with enemies I don't think it works.
Micah went full Charlie on that signature reduction statement 😂
From a distance that is getting very close to the video game suppressed sound. Pew pew
Great video. Check out 375 Raptor. Same concept but bigger bullets.
we 100% will!
"I don't know, man, I think I'm just a little bit lost"
I felt that.
"How would you describe the 8.6 blackout? " ..." Like a .338 whisper "
For anybody wondering, the rifle Mike is using is the:
Q - The Fix 8.6 Blackout 16"
Appears to be the 12'' version, can you confirm that is the 16 ?
he even said in the video it’s a 12 inch barrel
The subsonic hollow point might have been traveling too slow for expansion. But due to its mass carried enough inertia to push through all 3 gel blocks.
Those projectiles were designed to expand upon impact with fluid, ballistic gel is not fluid. There i fixed it, now you are smarter.
@@investigativeoutcomes9343 interesting 🤔, so every other hollow point is designed to expand in gel then?
@@investigativeoutcomes9343except that ballistic gel is specifically designed for testing ammunition... Which includes hollowpoints.
The twist rate compensates for the slow speed. Which is especially important for the supersonics at 725yd (which a mad lad managed to consistently shoot)
those bullets he is using are designed to only expand in fluid. you know like blood filled muscle with stringy tendons and warm fat.@@GregNTech
Insane engineering is done on this round..excellent work
It would be cool to see the effects of this 8.6 and load through different levels of armor into ballistic blocks.
The spin also adds mass to the materials that are spinning.
The hollow points would give me cause for concern at anything that may be behind my target that I haven’t seen. That round looks like it’d hardly slow down going through 2-3 people.
What u don't want those call of duty collaterals?
Was that the hollow point in the first ballistics test they did? Tbh I thought "magnum" was something else
@@Scroolewse The first, second and third ballistics gel tests, lol.
@@Token_Black_Guy nope and I wouldn’t want the manslaughter charges either.
@@SpookEOD oh wtf why did a hollow point round do that
