Bruce Cockburn, by far, in my humble opinion, is one of the most underrated musicians of all time. This man has more talent as a guitarist and lyricist. Thank you Bruce for 40+ years of the best music I’ve ever heard ❤
The older I get, the more I appreciate the talent of Bruce Cockburn.

every few months, I pull out another Cockburn album and listen to it day and night. I hear something new everytime.
The man kicked off with my favorite of his many wonderful tunes. "Gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight." Dylan himself never wrote a better line. So much truth in a single sentence. Saw Bruce last year (2023) in Nelsonville OH. Great show by a great artist. "One of Canada's treasures" is spot-on.
Scared me for a second when you said, 'The man kicked off.."!
Saw Bruce last week (9/1/23), his back is hunched and he complained of arthritis in his hands, and he's still amazing, impressive, fantastic!
🙏🏼 I’m not a religious person, but I pray for him. I’ve seen him live more times than any other performer.
Love Bruce. He is simply one of the best song writers ever , and one of the finest guitarists
Oh you lucky thing. He is amazing. I hope he comes to Scotland again soon.
Anthony Gomes is another Canadian who deserves much credit...
Just saw video from that; he sounds great!
Some of our best singer songwriters came out of Canada. Bruce is one of them.
This concert took place at the old Montreal Forum on June 3, 1988. I was fortunate to be the recording engineer for the show, which was originally broadcast on MuchMusic.
Could you supply a less muddy soundtrack?
That is pretty fly man! You had one helleva seat and ear👍👍👍
@@TubeDisabuser Really...this sounds like it was recorded with a '70s panasonic cassette tape recorder, set on level 1. But hey, at least it EXISTS?
You did an excellent job !!! Never heard more clearer sound. Rare and beautiful ! Thank you !!
I must have listened to lovers in a dangerous time a hundred times in a row when it first came out. It was the perfect pop song.
What great singer, songwriter and human being
I've had the pleasure of seeing him perform and meeting him with multiple good , deep convetsations
" until we meet again" he once said to me as we went our seperate ways after a nice time together, and we have talked more times since..
A true hero status fella that when able had done his best to make a difference
What a blessing he has been to planet earth.... a child of the wind
Until we meet again"
In a perfect world, a song such as this would never ever need to be written. In our imperfect world, only one man could have written it. This performance is perfection. May we remember all souls murdered in Central and South America by regimes funded by the United States government, and my the almighty forgive us.
And Christ grant us mercy

35 years ago! I’m a Cockburn fan from the 70’s. He never disappoints!
My girlfriend, now my wife of 44 years, and I, saw Bruce Cockburn at Lakehead University, in January of 1977. We have seen him every chance we get, including flying back to Thunder Bay, to reprise the 1977 concert with some of the same people who joined us back then. He truly is part of the music of our lives.
He played in the Agora that night. Lot's of the local TBay coffehouse players were there that night listening. Rodney Brown, Damon Dobak, Laurie Conger and Ken Hamm. It was the first time I saw him too. A pretty awe struck evening.
I was roofing a house in Austin Tx. in the early 80's. Had the jam box going down below first time I heard Bruce. Had to drop everything, jump off the roof to find out who the heck this was playing and sing!ing! Now I've seen him in multiple cities every chance possible! Bruuuce!

Stills and Cockburn together - a guitarist dream .
Thanks for your honest and sincere love towards my work,we have you to be most thankful for .
When I see Stills play the lead acoustically, I can't pick up my guitar for at least 2 weeks. And, I wish I even knew how to play one Cockburn song. He is phenomenal and unique.
I think Cockburn blew stills away on this occasion, how do you play like cockburn, best wishes@@42awww
@jamesc4812 Just stumbled upon this recording this morning: sensational!!! I’m so grateful for your talent, relentless hard work and humane insight. I truly hope you are picking and scribbling your heart out in this truly dangerous time. The world needs your voice, now more than ever. And if age and arthritis have taken an edge of your performance, we really don’t care. Strum and sing out of tune, just keep on sharing your vital voice.
Wow - Stephen Stills jamming to Bruce Cockburn - this is like discovering a Unicorn.

Stills is an astonishing guitarist, but he's met his match with Coburn. At 17:18, after the solo, Stills exhales in relief! This is a tremendous video. Thanks for posting.
I was there. What an incredibly gracious introduction by Stephen Stills.
Thank you for posting. Didn't know that Bruce and Steven ever shared the stage. These are 2 of my most respected and favorite pickers, and writers. Would enjoy anything they ever did together. Of course the harmonies of Graham and David are always welcome. At a time when status quo was using as much coke as possible and building personal wealth by any means, Mr Cockburn released Big Circumstance that remains one of the most important albums in my life. As I've said before the world needs about 7 billion more people with Bruce Cockburns perception and headspace.
Amen, well said mate, I concur.
I too really appreciate Mr Cockburn sharing his beautiful talents with us. I believe they reflect his striving to live a life based on the truths he knows. I appreciate his desire to influence the world for good.
Wow!
Now I know Bruce
I saw Bruce Cockburn at the Yellow Door coffee house in Montreal. I remember it as if it was yesterday. It was mesmerising. I took his first two albums back home with me and converted all my university friends!
Bruce is one of the best songwriters out there. Ever.
Couldn't be a higher compliment from an equivalently great guitar player, Stephen Stills.
Saw CSNY about 10 years earlier and the contempt they held for each other was palpable on stage. So nice to see them 10 years later really having fun and enjoying playing together. I guess it helps to have such a great soul like Bruce holding it together.
The older Bruce Cockburn gets the more I appreciate him. Fantastic solos on Bone on Bone and he latest four songs are great!

Bruce Cockburn - What a great guy... It was in the summer of 1989 when I went with a few friends to an open-air concert of Bruce Cockburn in the city "Karl-Marx-Stadt" (GDR). (Today this city is called Chemnitz again...:-) Live concerts with musicians from Western countries were still a minor sensation in the GDR back then. It was a great concert - even though it rained the whole time. After the concert we walked along the barrier fence because one of us had the crazy idea of breaking into the backstage area to see the musicians up close. It's hard to believe, but there was actually a loophole that we crawled through and quickly we were at the large container that Bruce Cockburn was about to go into. The "FDJ" stewards - a kind of security guards back then - had of course noticed us and wanted to intercept us, but too late, Bruce had discovered us (and protected us) and invited us into the container where his musicians were already. We were offered hot tea and Coca Cola, sat down with them and talked for a while, maybe 15 or 20 minutes (for us it was an eternity) - so we talked (with our limited English) about the political situation in the GDR and of course also about music. We were totally over the moon - we were backstage with our star and were able to talk to him, get autographs written on the tickets and posters - it was unbelievable that this was possible!!!
When I listen to his music today, I always remember this experience with a smile...😀
The first time I saw Bruce was at Paris District High School. It was 1968 and I was in grade nine. I fell in love with his music and have been a fan since then. I was at this concert too. Bruce shone as he always does.
Wow. There's a blast from the past -- Paris District High School. I attended a performance by another great Canadian guitarist there (alate 1970s ?) -- Liona Boyd and took along two people who had never heard of her before. Needless to say, Ms. Boyd knocked their (and mine) socks off. Bruce Cockburn -- I stumbled upon a concert of his while I was at the Univ of Waterloo in the early - mid-1970s. I was still on campus for an early evening class (I lived on a farm outside of town) and was surprised to see that there was a BC concert in one of the theatres in the Arts portion of the campus (I was Science & Engineering). Somehow I had managed to get a front row seat. Pretty cool. At that time I was trying to teach myself some of BC's instrumentals on my guitar.
Can't get a much better lesson than that front row seat.
"a deadly sense of frustration", so little has changed ...
J'y étais! Ce fut une rencontre et un moment incroyable!

1988-I looked up the acronym behind them. International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
The Eighth World Congress is held in Montreal, Canada, and is attended by 2,500 physicians from nearly 80 countries.
Crosby, Stills and Nash and Bruce Cockburn, together with musicians from the USSR and Canada perform at IPPNW's Concert for Peace.

I had everything this guy put out 30 years ago then it went from vinyl, to cassette, bought a half dozen cd's and then four or five on iTunes, and now I know who got the rain, look up in the sky.
This vid is an amazing find! I never knew that they played together.
Fell in love with Bruce in 1983, in San Francisco. My love has not dwindled.❤❤❤❤
I saw Bruce Cockburn for the first time at Covenant College, a small Christian liberal arts college located on Lookout Mountain, Georgia (near Chattanooga, Tn.) in the mid '70s. I was beginning my exploration of photography and took my camera, not knowing much about photography, I didn't realize how important light is in the process... I did get a few photos, all on film and all long lost today. Digital photography was just a figment of someone's imagination at the time... A few years later, he was in Atlanta and friends and I drove down for the concert. After the concert was over, he mingled with a small crowd after the concert and I had a chance to speak with him. I remember that I made a comment about him not being a capitalist commercial artist and he very quickly corrected me, telling me that he was doing OK commercially.
Lov Cockburn's songs, voice, guitar; hav played them in various bands: Kevin Jones; Genie & the Concubines; The Rivals..
epic - Bruce comes to Calgary in February 2023. Cant wait.
So fantastic!!!! So glad these talented people found each other

Radium Rain is one of my favorite Bruce Cockburn songs and seeing him play it on Linda Manzer’s creation is a treat!
I had the once in a life time experience to see & hear him in a great concert in Montreal in August 1991 & since then I'm surely a great fan. To say the least. One of my favorites for sure.
1982 this L.p. came out. Rocket Launcher was on the top 10 in the u.s. in the 90s
Got so much radio play.

July, 1988, we the crew of the Greenpeace ship The Beluga were docked for one week in Thunder Bay, Ontario with Bruce Cockburn. I was with Bruce every waking hour of each day. We sat in a small boat, testing water for hours. Great concerts at night on The Boat!
Damn that was good! I am seeing Bruce tomorrow night!

We need to look in our own backyard in Canada and the US now. Lots of poor people in our own backyard. the west is in trouble economically and financially the last 20 years judging by homeless issues here now. Where are our troubadours to save the west these days? There are poor people in Canada and US Mr Bruce and CSNY. Not everyone's a millionaire. Thanks for posting this it gets especially good halfway through. I'll always love the melodies and harmonies and top notch songwriting of both artists and bands however. Calming music has calming effects...

Bruce and wife are currently living in San Francisco. I'm sure they're well aware of this. Interesting, though, and I couldn't agree more, having worked at a world relief organisation when younger and thinking similar thoughts. Now with global warming we'll see more and more migration everywhere. It's my sincere hope that we work on adjusting and accommodating rather than denying and refusing. Just saying. Cheers

Heard him 2 days ago, and also 5 months ago. He does not look to be doing that well physically, which is a concern, but he still sounds great. Yeah, he's 78, but he seems too young to be so hunched. He's a contemporary of CSNY, in fact the same age as Stephen Stills, yet looks older though I'm pretty sure he didn't do nearly the experimental pharmaceuticals as CSNY back in the day . . . I just wish him well and hope he hangs in there. He's my fave singer-songwriter . . . I guess we're all getting old . . .

BC never lost the ability to accompany his music with incredible words/lyrics/Poetry.
CS&N lost that ability long ago and their best work is behind them. At best you get harmony.
Much respect for SS who plays with 'blood' 🌞 whom is not only a magnificent guitar player but also a great human being with an amazing record of swaying local and national elections towards progressive candidates, for decades.
Love Stills's work, but dislike when celebrities use their status to sway elections.

You have to love the dude lighting a cigarette and the woman behind him darned with a pearl necklace during Rocket Launcher. I by no means am making light of Bruce’s reason for writing this song. It was written about the genocide going on in Guatemala at the time. Ironically, after much research about retirement. I choose Guatemala. I cannot afford to retire in my beloved Vermont or Rhode Island.
I hear you, Pamela. I couldn't afford to move back to my US homeland either, especially where I lived having been raised in California and living in Colorado before settling abroad.
