It is amazing how many bad videos explaining the usage of an item are around!!! - This video is excellent and should be seen by everybody attempting to explain a product in a video. Thank you for these very practical instructions. I especially like the Velcro bit. :)
Dude just got this Go pro Hero5 session yesterday. This video was awesome. I am going to use the Velcro tip on my vacation excursions. and the Roll mini. Thanks
Willie, well done, my friend! I purchased and sold my original session prior to even considering getting the Hero 5 Session. As much of a huge GoPro fan that I am, I couldn't bring myself to really love the Hero 5 Session, but I couldn't find the specific reasons to really want it, and debated the issue until I bought one a few days ago. I am actually enjoying what it can do, and it's full functionality. I am STILL getting used to the idea that it has LINEAR view, lol! So thank you for bringing that up as the primary mode. Very helpful video, however, I am not QUITE sold on the velcro idea, but I'm not afraid to try it, or even see if I can put that to good use. You have a new subscriber! All the best in your endeavors, Captain Monroe
Huge thanks Capt Monroe - I think you're going to like the velcro trick! It doesn't work for everything, but in a pinch it's great especially on stationary items, just make sure its strong velcro :) Pumped to have you subscribed!
I’m still rocking the Hero 5 Session as I’m an aspiring YT…Thanks for the tips…I’ve been shooting in the wrong mode forever. I literally just update my settings!
Great video and tips. I have used this on my plane and on my Harley now. I used the Capture app when I was flying and it worked great! I was able to start the video when I wanted to and not just start it on the ground. Saves battery and SD card space. I will be putting velcro on mine for sure (right side). Thanks Willie!
You got it rory! Check out the video I just posted about the DIY mount, you might find it useful to strap it to things and holds a little more secure than velcro!
I like the look of the 4k30 without stabilization, not in every situation, but it looks much more life like. You can also remove the fish eye effect in post, so you can have 4k linear.
Instead of Velcro use a product called Dual Lock. You can get it at Home Depot and the it is much stronger and more stable than standard Velcro. Its basically plastic velcro
Not sure if you'll be able to answer in time but just found your video so helpful! Thanks We're going to a aviation show (blue angels) & hope to capture it by mounting our go pros on our bike helmets so we can just let them run while we watch so as not to fuss with them & miss seeing something with our own eyes. Wondering what settings would work best for this & if I might want to slow motion some of it later what setting is best. Appreciate your advice Thanks again for this video!
HI there, great video. I, primarily, use my Go Pro Hero Session 5 and iPhone 6 for most of my filming, as my Nikon D3300 has no viable way for me to have a monitor (that I know of) to see if it is focused or not. Always up for tips and tricks with my GPHS5.
I like the velcro tip & I had no idea that the stabilization didn't function in 4K. I'm new to the Hero 5 Session and the fish eye effect was making me less than enthusiastic with all of the post work needed! Duh but thanks!
Hi! Could you answer a question everyone seems to forget: audio quality? Not just file format, resolution an so on, but actual build quality of the mics and how much sound pressure they can take before distorting? That's really important to me since rave parties is one of the odd "action recordings" I love to do...and I also happen to be a sound engineer which unfortunately makes me ridiculously sensitive to crappy audio. (Im not after pristine studio quality of course, but can the mics take loudness without distortion?)
Hi Niles, this is an awesome question. I don't know enough about audio to answer these questions though - I do know the mics on the new 5 series GoPros is a lot better than the previous generation, but as far as build quality and sound pressure, I have no idea. If you find out, def let me know, I'm curious now too.
Hey man! Im at this very minute waiting to catch the train to go get the Hero5 Session at the dispatch. Then on to get the blazing Pro Samsung microSDXC card. :) EDIT Will let you know what I find out. Prepare for a bunch of odd answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet ;-)
Great video for someone like me. I am totally confused by todays progress. I still have Kodaks ....The Hero 5 was a present and totally new concept for me...
Hi, I found this is really useful video for a GoPro novice like me thank you. I seem to be struggling a bit with battery life on my GoPro sessions 5. Not sure what to expect but it seems a bit disappointing. What should I be expecting?
I'm a bit late to the party here but would I be correct in saying that the unit will run constantly if plugged into power. e.g. off a usb port on a motorcycle.
They are - I had a GoPro with the LCD screen (one of the Hero 4s), but it was just another thing to break (it did) and GoPros for me should be super simple and basic. Love the Hero 5 Session!
Only thing stopping me from switching over to a session as a main would be external audio options. My Hero 4 Silver is easily (and affordably) rigged up for clean, crisp, in-helmet audio.
Ahhh makes sense. I think the mics on the Hero 5 & Hero 5 session are a natively better than the 4's, but if you have a special setup, that's a whole different story :) What is your setup? Im always curious for GoPro mic setups.
Thanks dude! I just got mines! I really liked your tips. It really helped. But my Hero 5 session got really hot in less then five minutes. I didn't even record anything and all I did was looked at the different settings so I could get used it. I turned it off to cool it, waited awhile, but the same heat problem occurred. Did you or anyone else had this problem? Thanks again, keep it up!
I just bought my very first GoPro ever and it also got heated up while I was watching this video. WTF? Is that not normal? Haha. It got VERY warm, so I thought it is normal. I will check with my friends tomorrow and see what they say.
I am completely new to the Go Pro, I was just learning how to use it, downloading software, pairing it with my phone, etc, and it did get quite hot as well.
I was filming time lapse underwater, in a local creek… during spring run-off. I’m in northern Utah. This spring the run off is none existent… but I made the Fatal mistake of taking it out of “the frame”, (Because even another current was fast it was only 5 to 7 inches deep, I put a five pound rock on top of the GoPro, 20 seconds in the filling the time lapse I noticed this tiny little black rectangle roll towards the current get caught in it and down she went… I have that Goprosessions5 for one week! I’ve had several sessions 4, and the sessions five is by far Hughly superior. I wish they would come out with another Sessions sized go pro with built-in stabilization that rivals the Insta 360 RS
just connected my hero 5 session to the gopro Quick app. ( I guess it has been updated) impossible to turn the beeps off. I can turn the LED blink off . but nowhere in set up do I see beep like in your video. I guess because the app has been updated and now the beep can not be turned off. I film wildlife and now the beep scares the animals away. Any solutions. Thanks Mate.
hello, why my gopro hero session 5 is turned off when I stopped the video or camera. scenario "I open the gopro then it's automatically starting video or camera, then when I stopped it will automatically turned off" it sucked!! please help
Bought it on Sunday. Returned it the next day. Connecting it to the app capture was a pain in the butt. Constantly telling me "couldn't connect to your camera" battery life sucks. Didn't even used it for an hour and died on me on my way home when I tried to use it as a dash cam. so I decided to go get the hero black 5. efinitely worth the $100 more.
Great video! I just purchased a Hero 5 session. Going on a motorcycle trip soon, excited to see the images and videos I can capture with this unit. What type of Mount do you recommend for the Harley? I'm riding pillion. Thanks!
Awesome! you'll get some great footage. I'd recommend a helmet cam or maybe a way to mount it to the handlebars. I'd mix it up so you have some footage from different angles :)
I stuck mine on my motorcycle helmet and took a ride today and loved the video quality-shot in 2.7K and 30 fps and it looked amazing (with image stabilization). Thanks for the tips. A question: Why do the videos record in short spurts? When I went to download them onto my computer there were around 6 videos of roughly the same size although I never turned the cam off during my ride. Is there a setting I can change to record in one long video? Thanks in advance.
Hi! I don't know if you have already addressed this question but I cannot seem to find an HDMI cable that is compatible with the Session. What do you use?
my gopro session 5 was turning off. and sometimes overheating. Im using a sanDisk extreme plus.. 32GB Speed up to 95mb/s 633x. I reset the gopro settings and formatted the SD card.. I took it on a trip for 4 days and is working fine with no issues.
There kinda different mine has a couple of problems some times it's just the sd card the same card would make the go pro not turn on I switched the card and it worked fine
can you help me because my gopro5 session i can’t load my photos or video i cant see them on my phone.. always telling me that go to ios then setings local networ so i did all that but still i can’t see pictures
You are doing a great job, keep it up. I also have the hero session 5 but it is so hard for me to edit the videos, how do you edit the ones that you film with your GoPro?
Great question - I use mine if I'm doing something really active and I want to 100% make sure I get everything in the frame. Or, if I just want that fisheye effect, sometimes I think it adds to the shot. Kind of a personal preference though :)
Is it safe to record with the GoPro if it is plugged to a power source? I have had times when the battery was low but still wanted to be getting footage but was nervous if I could or not. Also, thanks for this video. You answered a couple of other questions I had.
What's the best setting to take photos with... while you're doing sports? I like using Video+photo because I also like not just video but pictures of the moments of whatever I am playing but the one problem is that the photos are blurry so I don't know what mode I should use to take photos with while GoPro is moving. Or should I just use one of the Photo mode and forget about video?
Yeah, it's still my go-to for a small camera or action stuff, but I wouldn't use it as a primary camera. Will be really interested to see the results with the mic adapter!
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. How about the battery? Is it still holding up? The bad thing is, that it is discontinued. Not sure if they would exchange the battery if needed
Very useful vlog, thanks for the tips etc. One question: I was wondering if the 5 Sessions has an accurate battery level indicator or does it suddenly shut down once it's completely discharged? The 'big' plus of the Sessions for me is its compact size, but (sensibly) having to carry a large charger negates the benefits of having such a tiny camera. Thanks.
For me the battery indicator seems pretty accurate, I always have a small portable charger on me just in case and usually keep it plugged in while I'm in transit though.
Suggestion! You can purchase a power inverter for your car at auto parts store, hardware stores for very little money. Then you can charge the Gopro and battery pack when your on the move! (As a private investigator, thats how I roll. I need to be charged at all times as I'll never know where I'll end up)
Some good tips, like shooting in 2.7k, image stabilization, and linear mode. But putting the camera in your mouth while doing any activity just is a bad idea!
HEY MAN CAN YOU HELP ME OUT HERE, I HAVE THE GOPRO HERO SESSION 5 WITHOUT THE BUILT IN SCREEN LIKE THE ONE IN YOUR HAND. I DO ALOT OF FISHING VIDEO VLOG. HOW COME WHEN I RECORD IN 2K 30FPS MY VIDEO IS ALL PIXELATED? I DON'T KNOW IF MY GOPRO IS DEFECTED. IF YOU WATCH MY FISHING VLOG 8, YOU CAN SEE IT'S ALL PIXELATED DON'T KNOW WHY. I RECORDED IT IN 2K 30FPS. HELP?

Velcro with a tether cord is a great shout!
Thank you so much 💖🌷
Velcro was a good tip! ( as I'm putting away the duck tape😂👍)
Velcro is really underutilized I feel like :)
Off topic, but has anyone told you that you kind of look like the artist Hozier?
just when you thought you knew it all.. Willie introduces you to Velcro! Thanks Mate!
Velcro is the best, hard drives, go pros, home automation...need to full vlog on my love of velcro
Dude, makes me so happy that this was valuable for you! Checking out the link now
The mouth mount is a great hack! I like this tech review video.
lol hilarious... cool stuff lol

I just bought a Hero Sessions 5. I love it. I am looking for a good night lapse video with this camera.
If you make one, love to see it!
I mounted one on the hood of my car. Not to great. It was a driving video. Keep checking out my Channel. One may appear.
Nice! Velcro tip. I'll try this to attach the session to my drone, as the original harnass on the drone isn't made for session.
Awesome - let me know how it goes!
I like the look of the 4k30 without stabilization, not in every situation, but it looks much more life like. You can also remove the fish eye effect in post, so you can have 4k linear.
Awesome tips! I just ordered a session and can't wait to use it :-)
Dope - hope you love it!
Thanks :) I plan to use the time lapse to incorporate them into my videos, how has your experience been with this feature?
Don't forget the butt cheek hold.......this camera fits nice between the butt cheeks especially when your adrenaline is going.
That's a whole different video :D
jack mama EW!! GROSS!!! WUT DA FREAK!!!!!?????
Lol..... Flat butts can't do it.
I tried.
what?
GoPro, get right in the middle of the action.
Instead of Velcro use a product called Dual Lock. You can get it at Home Depot and the it is much stronger and more stable than standard Velcro. Its basically plastic velcro
Great call - will definitely check it out!

Prob too late, but hope you got it figured out :)
Thanks for the settings tips man 😁
No problem 👍

I like the velcro tip & I had no idea that the stabilization didn't function in 4K. I'm new to the Hero 5 Session and the fish eye effect was making me less than enthusiastic with all of the post work needed! Duh but thanks!
You got it John - glad it helped out and enjoy that Hero 5!
Thank you for the tips! Just got mine, can't wait to try it.
Awesome! Watch my vacation tips too, after I recorded it, I realized they were more general purpose tips :)
I think it's the best go pro cam
You and me both :)
All but mouth tip are very helpful, especially the very last one.
Good 🙌🙂

Thx just got my session a few days ago. Most informative I needed to set my GoPro to 2.7 and I had no idea how to do it it
That makes me happy :)
Great video!! I need to use my 5 more!!!
Nicely done!!
Thanks Kelly! Looks like you just did a GoPro vid recently too - hope you're loving yours :)
good tutorial, thank you very much
Very welcome!
Great video for someone like me. I am totally confused by todays progress. I still have Kodaks ....The Hero 5 was a present and totally new concept for me...
Awesome! Hope you get some great footage with it 😀😀
Thanks so much. Great Information. Question? Has anyone had an issue with the GoPro Session getting very Hot while in use. Thanks
You got it :) Mine does get pretty warm sometimes
Nice , thanks, have one and didn´t use it yet : Can use an external microphone?
Not with the session, no mic inputs :(
Actually you can if u have the right type-c adapter
Your Video is Really Informative & Lovely Brother !
Thank You So Much !
you got it :)
Great Video! I'm considering getting a go pro session so these may come in use. Thanks! :)
Very welcome - I love my session. Takes a beating and records 4K!
I went full out and bought the Hero 5 Black, my first go pro and impressed from the images.
Nate's Film Tutorials umm... can you... buy me a .... hero 5 black... ill send my session 5 for it?
Can you get stabilization with 1080p 60fps
Yes - I'm like 99% sure you can.
Yeah, u can
Dayne Williams yeah, you can I use those settings for skiing and it's pretty good
Great tips!! Thanks!
Velcro idea is genius!
Hi, I found this is really useful video for a GoPro novice like me thank you. I seem to be struggling a bit with battery life on my GoPro sessions 5. Not sure what to expect but it seems a bit disappointing. What should I be expecting?
Make sure voice activation and the wifi connection is turned off if you aren't using those things - they drain battery big time!
Brilliant I'll give that a try thanks
I'm a bit late to the party here but would I be correct in saying that the unit will run constantly if plugged into power. e.g. off a usb port on a motorcycle.
Great info. Thanks Willie Morris!
Thanks dude, I didn't know about the different modes, and it's gonna help a lot for my ski vids 😁🤞
DOPE!
Those look like great alternatives to the new Hero 5, been thinking about grabbing one for a secondary perspective in my videos! Solid video, Willie.
They are - I had a GoPro with the LCD screen (one of the Hero 4s), but it was just another thing to break (it did) and GoPros for me should be super simple and basic. Love the Hero 5 Session!
Only thing stopping me from switching over to a session as a main would be external audio options. My Hero 4 Silver is easily (and affordably) rigged up for clean, crisp, in-helmet audio.

cool. linear stabilise mouth velcro battery 🔋
Thanks dude! I just got mines! I really liked your tips. It really helped. But my Hero 5 session got really hot in less then five minutes. Weird, if I were you, I'd return it, sounds like you got a faulty one.
Thanks again!
I just bought my very first GoPro ever and it also got heated up while I was watching this video. WTF? Is that not normal? Haha. It got VERY warm, so I thought it is normal. I will check with my friends tomorrow and see what they say.
HPHP2 right!? I thought I was the only one. Please keep me updated on what's going on. Thank you.
I am completely new to the Go Pro, I was just learning how to use it, downloading software, pairing it with my phone, etc, and it did get quite hot as well.
Just got a Hero 5 session, great video Willie!
You got it man, hope it's helpful, about time to do an updated video on it! 🙂
Helpful tips. Thanks.
Good idea about Velcro, but in that line of thought, the 3M locking adhesive strips would be better I think. Thanks for the idea!!
Oh yeah, dual lock is the brand name of the locking adhesive I think - it's solid too!
Good vid. Thanks for the tips...gotta try some velcro
Gopro should update/upgrade and re-release this camera, it's so awesome still have my 4 and 5sessions
very well presented - thank you
I was filming time lapse underwater, in a local creek… during spring run-off. I’m in northern Utah. This spring the run off is none existent… but I made the Fatal mistake of taking it out of “the frame”, (Because even another current was fast it was only 5 to 7 inches deep, I put a five pound rock on top of the GoPro, 20 seconds in the filling the time lapse I noticed this tiny little black rectangle roll towards the current get caught in it and down she went…
I have that Goprosessions5 for one week!
I’ve had several sessions 4, and the sessions five is by far Hughly superior.
I wish they would come out with another Sessions sized go pro with built-in stabilization that rivals the Insta 360 RS
I hear reports that a new small size might be coming out this September- October
Wow! A really quality video, love the tips!!
Thanks, hope they help!
Goprohero5
Nice tips! Session 4 arrives today from Amazon
jajaja the mouth tip is the best tip i've got so far for using the sessions 5 :D
It works so good! 😂😀
just connected my hero 5 session to the gopro Quick app.
Great tips. Thanks for the video.

+Isela Guerrero weird, sounds like you got a dud, mine lasts for hours and never connectivity issues, glad the Hero 5 Black is working for you tho!
Hey Willie, great top5 tips. You rock.
Thanks PJ! 🙂
Great video! I just purchased a Hero 5 session. Going on a motorcycle trip soon, excited to see the images and videos I can capture with this unit. What type of Mount do you recommend for the Harley? I'm riding pillion. Thanks!

I think that's just the nature of video on a lot of devices. My Canon 80D does the same thing.
Hi! I don't know if you have already addressed this question but I cannot seem to find an HDMI cable that is compatible with the Session. What do you use?
Good question, you'd have to find something that's HDMI to USB-C , haven't seen one, but check Amazon!
just a random question how can i stop the beeping sounds when i press buttons or i turn on the gopro?
Think there is a setting in the app
thanks
i just bought one last night. i am already having problems. what type of SD card do you use
Yikes! I generally try to find SD cards with the fastest read/write speeds. What problems are you having?
my gopro session 5 was turning off. and sometimes overheating. Im using a sanDisk extreme plus.. 32GB Speed up to 95mb/s 633x. I reset the gopro settings and formatted the SD card.. I took it on a trip for 4 days and is working fine with no issues.
I had the same issue with mine the day I bought it - yesterday. Woke up this morning ready to take it back to Best Buy, but it's working fine.
Nice thank you pretty helpful actually I am new to this stuff
:D
slick willie well done bravo
Thanks Jesus ❤️
ever try out 3m dual lock instead of Velcro. same as easy pass strips.
I haven't, but I'm looking it up now :)
Thanks for your tips!
You got it, glad you enjoyed!
Just bought this for my 5 inch Mr steele alien racing/freestyle drone
man thanks for the tip linear and 2.7k!!
Linear is a game changer! :D
You are doing a great job, keep it up. I also have the hero session 5 but it is so hard for me to edit the videos, how do you edit the ones that you film with your GoPro?
I edit in premiere pro :)
DO YOU HAVE TUT. ON HOW TO GET THE BEST 1080P VIDEO. I DO ALOT OF FISHING VLOG
I don't yet, but I'll def try to talk about that sometime soon!
JUNEORJUNE i always shoot in 1080p 60 fps with my session in my 🐟 fishing videos
So what special times do you use the fisheye setting? I just bought mine today and am having a hard time figuring out how to use it lol
Great question - I use mine if I'm doing something really active and I want to 100% make sure I get everything in the frame. Or, if I just want that fisheye effect, sometimes I think it adds to the shot. Kind of a personal preference though :)
Thanks for the reply!!
For sure, I try to respond to all comments :) @morewillie on social if you need any help!
Superb, thank you.
Very welcome!
Should I buy the GoPro hero session 5 or the Xiaomi Mijia 4k?
Is it safe to record with the GoPro if it is plugged to a power source? I have had times when the battery was low but still wanted to be getting footage but was nervous if I could or not. Also, thanks for this video. You answered a couple of other questions I had.
I think it is, I've definitely done it before.
Still worth buying one ??for 60$?
( basically new)??
;) Luv you Man! You made my life easier and better. You da Man.
Love you dude! That makes me incredibly happy :)
You have to switch to photo mode for the photos, but you can take frame grabs of 4K video and the quality will be good enough for posting online :)
Where do I get the battery as the stock one is not working?
Thanks for these tips
Hey I have the same Go pro as yours however I do not have linear options or nothing like that do you know what is happening?
Is it the Hero 5? Also linear mode only works with certain resolutions, so double check your settings :)
Hey mate,
I'm contemplating to get this together with the mic adapter. Are you still satisfied with it?
Yeah, it's still my go-to for a small camera or action stuff, but I wouldn't use it as a primary camera. Will be really interested to see the results with the mic adapter!
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. How about the battery? Is it still holding up? The bad thing is, that it is discontinued. Not sure if they would exchange the battery if needed
Thanks Very useful!
You got it!
can you have it plugged into a power bank and still use the camera?
I need that bag!!
It's so solid!
What setting would you recommend for rolling shots of a car?
Thanks for some very helpful tips. I love the session! Do you know whether the Session 5 can take an external microphone?
It can't as far as I know.
I know this comment is 3 years old but in case you’re still wondering.. yes it can now take a mic…but you need to buy the 💰adapter. No way around it.
Any way to quickly upload vid to an iPad2? The Bluetooth is sooo slow. I have a cable but haven’t discovered a method of transfer.
New ipads support external media so you could get a microSD card reader :)
Willie Morris Thanks for the info and useful tip, cheers.
Suggestion! You can purchase a power inverter for your car at auto parts store, hardware stores for very little money. Then you can charge the Gopro and battery pack when your on the move! (As a private investigator, thats how I roll. I need to be charged at all times as I'll never know where I'll end up)
Great tip! That's actually what we bring with us when we go camping or on road trips. 👌👌
Great video and tips! Thanks so much. Happy to have found you - new subscriber ;)
Yay, glad you found it helpful! 😀
What do you suggest to use to attach the velcro on the camera without risking it getting peeled off?
I use industrial strength so the adhesive is pretty tough, but you could glue it on if you really wanted it to be permanent.
Love your points :)
Thanks Stelios - I appreciate it!
Some good tips, like shooting in 2.7k, image stabilization, and linear mode. But putting the camera in your mouth while doing any activity just is a bad idea!
You def have to be careful if it's in your mouth...I don't recommend for extended periods :)
Nice video. What are you actually shooting the video with? Both camera and audio?
Canon 80D and think this was the Rode Video Go mic :)
what memory card do u use? an does the camera get hot while you use it? tnx ia
Can't remember what brand is in there right now, but it does get hot sometimes.
HELP?
Sounds defective - shouldn't be pixelated!
JUNEORJUNE sd card may not support 4k video maybe?
JUNEORJUNE or 2k up
OK
brother, Gopro has an App for setting, quicker/easier access. :)
nice Video ! Ill buy Soon ( Haha)
Yep, wish the app was a bit nicer though or there was an easier way to delete vs having to use the app to format the card.
