I just got one from a friend for $80 new in box, he won it as a door prize at an office Christmas party opened it looked inside then put it back in his closet for a couple years.
Just bought mine yesterday. Seller bought it 4 days ago and let it sit in a shelf then he decided to sell it. Still has 1 year warranty with the mall and it was the last stock from where he bought it. Checked it and bought it for $100. It was a deal for me since its brand new.
I still have 2 of these and use them for HD recording on my FPV racing drones, they are the perfect form factor for 5 inch miniquad, so much so that other companies have tried to fill the gap by releasing their own box cameras that are the same dimensions but they don’t have GoPro quality video, built in superview and build quality of the session 5.
The session is suppose to work with the Hero 5 mic adapter brick thing, this was one of the selling points listed for it on GoPro's own site. Either you misspoke, have a faulty camera, or the mic that you tested needs power (which can be turned on by the ap).
I just realized that the size of the session cube's is roughly the sam size of the human eye, after you remove the guts from the cube it's housed in. You could literally put it in your head if you were missing an eye and while wear glasses record the most high quality stealth video imaginable...
Great review. Walmart has them for $350. Which seems high for a device that was discontinued. Is there anything else like this? Shape, size…no screen required. If you could buy a used one would you or just buy it new?
As I commented to another... First and foremost, although they have very comparable video quality (RunCam has a Sony 12MP sensor), The RunCam and other Chinese models fall way short when it comes to audio and overall durability/quality. Therefore, it is my opinion that it is difficult to justify buying anything on the Chinese market at the moment when there aren't any cost savings considering refurbished GoPros are basically the same price as a RunCam 5 or Foxeer Box 2.
Session is such a great, easy and small camera. You can put anywhere and start recording, without Everyone been distrust with bigger camera. You can save precious moments, as I did with my dad! Or you can attach to DSLR and have video while taking photos. Which other camera can do that ? Image quality is really really good. Stabilization is one weakness, but with so many Good things, you can find the way, By the way I have few of them And really love them 👍🏼
Hello mate, just a quick heads up, you might want to revisit fitting an external microphone using the GoPro adapter, works fine. Now I’m not suggesting it has any application used on this GoPro as the whole point of it is it’s small size, but if you need it, it will work.
A shame that GoPro dropped the Session. There is nothing like it for motovlogging. By the way, the GoPro audio adapter DOES work with the Session...you just need to know how. I'll do a vid explaining it hopefully this week.
Hi! What's up Everyday Dad! I've actually found my self using the H5 Session more, than my H7 Blk! Mostly because I using it more when I ride motocross, and with my new helmet, the Session camera fits great underneath the visor. It doesn't block my view or anything, so it works great having it mounted under the visor of my mx helmet 👍👍
The Session is a niche B-roll camera, but it is able to fit into places bigger GoPro’s cannot so it earns its place. Anyone without a full size GoPro would be crazy to get a Session, but if you already have a GoPro, the Session is a great addition. It won’t get used as much as its big brother, but there are times when it is perfect. Unfortunately battery life is its greatest Achilles heal. And a lot of people don’t like the out-of-camera colors compared to the Hero 6/7 and lack of screen. Those of us still using the Hero 4 don’t care about the screen and menu navigation, but everyone else thinks it a problem. BTW - Do refurbs get a new battery? Because battery age is a real issue.
Your outdoor footage would have looked even better with a little levels tweak in post production. I agree with others, if you are on a bike of any type the form factor is the best.
For full retail, I'd go for something else unless the size was a factor. If it were discounted I might change my mind......so I agree with your verdict....Maybe😂
Good video man I actually own 3 of these Sessions, for my motorcycle videos.........one of them even survived a 140 mph crash I suffered at the racetrack, with just minor scratches ......its size, form factor, and strong build are a winner for me.....and you can find this camera for a great price ... I´d totally reccomend it if the size matters for your outdoor recording activity ;-)
I like the session as is battery life is decent enough to use. The normal gopro hero, are more gopro zero's if you as me ask their battery is always dead or getting there fast. I like the cubes.. guess that why i own 3 of them.. :) 2 sessions and one session5
Great info, just picked up a barely used one for $100 with tons of mount accessories, selfie stick, etc. Looking forward to using it for general recreational filming. Any recommendations for a drone for it?
Agree - I wish that GoPo would bring out a new Session. It might never have been a huge seller, but it has a continuing needs basis as evidenced by the gradually increasing prices for the Session on eBay. GoPro did 2 stupid things - they failed to create a version 2 drone that addressed the shortcomings of the first model, but far bigger is their abandoning of the Session line. If GoPro won’t do it, I hope DJI does. The Pocket is great - I have one - but nothing can get into small places like the Session or the really crappy Polaroid Cube.
I want Gopro to reintroduce the session line with the hero 8. You could probably have a camera with all the features of the hero 6 black contained in a session cube. I love the form factor of the session, and while getting one wouldn't be an upgrade from my hero 5 black, It is still the coolest camera I know of.
New to gopro, just wondering if I can drop it into a river to film fish and would it be possible to send footage to my phone to watch live like with a Bluetooth or something
I use my session 5 with REELSTEADY go software which makes it super stabilized and has horizon lock just like the GoPro hero 9. I can stabilize 4k as well ….
Gonna buy an action camera in the next few weeks. I’m still not sure which one (GoPro/osmo action) but since most of the mounts are interchangeable, is there an accessories bundle on amazon that you’d recommend?
just bought one for my drone to get the 4k but wish I had caught your vid before as now I'm worried bout the stabilization. maybe the 2.7k will be a big improvement over 2k?
Drops camera intentionally...thanks B+O for "lending" you the camera...nice! If the housing is a tough case, I wouldn't mind picking this up for my airsoft games igni get back into it. It looks small enough to mount on my gun without it getting in the way.
Its still super relevant yes. Unfortunately I lost mine while kiteboarding 😩Its a great camera and I might get it again but not refurbished. Only used or new. Deciding between this small cool one or the new hero 7black. But tje nice thing about the session 5 is the simplicity
The fusion and latest max line 360 cameras have even worse if not the worst accessory compatibility compare to sessions. Imo the session is the only model true to the idea of action cameras, you don’t buy action cameras for selfies and you don’t have the luxury to adjust framing when you are on a mountain bike or sky diving. It is indestructible, flexible enough to fit anywhere. I don’t understand why people like the screen in the back, it takes up power and costly to repair when it cracks. You are making action cameras, OWN IT!
Not relevant to this video but would you recommend the Canon SL3 if I’m upgrading from a Canon T3i and only want it for still shots and not the video aspect of it? I’m also thinking of getting the 17-55mm 2.8 IS USM canon lens for the SL3
What would you say about the older Hero Session 4, refurb for about $70, compared to say a Yi Lite? Stabilization can probably be improvised by velcro-ing Hero Session 4 to the top of a partially full water bottle, but it does not have 4k like the Yi Lite. On the other hand, Yi Lite 4k is really low frame rate, and it needs a waterproof case which kills audio unlike Hero Session 4...
I lost my Hero5 Session in July 2017, and just found it again under my dresser in November 2020. So pumped to record some new videos!
Hide the pain
Almost a month in use. Session so far is the best camera I owned.
It’s the most ideal camera for motorcycle racing
I run one on my motorcycle as a dash cam, does a great job and most importantly, it's waterproof! That's a big selling point for me.
Charles Stocker has the battery became worse during the time from you bought it until now?
I still have my Session 5 and use it a lot. Still going strong in Dec 2023.
Great to know. I'm thinking of buying 1 in 2024 for about 60 bucks...still worth it?
Had mine since it came out. Has everything you need, nothing you don’t. Perfect.
I wish they continued as hero 9 session. Was the best session for everything, high quality, and cheap!
yeah
With hypersmooth stabilization 3.0
@@shillongnatureasmr3602 hhaha
bought one in a pawn shop today for $60 with original cable and paperwork like new. kicks ass!
But does it work lol
I'm joking
I just got one from a friend for $80 new in box, he won it as a door prize at an office Christmas party opened it looked inside then put it back in his closet for a couple years.
I wish they would have kept up with this series, but I think they created their own competition for their current action camera line.
- FYI - it does work with the USB-C audio adaptor, I just used it a few days ago.
Hi. Which USB adapter did you use? Is it an official GoPro one? Or a third party device?
@@JayShareef - Yes, the official GoPro one.
@@Lockk9 thank you.

Caddx and runcam have already done it
Ofc they can't use built in superview cuz muh copyrights infringement
The purest action camera GoPro ever made. Do not forget about this word when 5 session came out to the market.
The session is suppose to work with the Hero 5 mic adapter brick thing, this was one of the selling points listed for it on GoPro's own site. Either you misspoke, have a faulty camera, or the mic that you tested needs power (which can be turned on by the ap).
The most portable camera for travel vlogging.
Watching your unboxing video of the Session 5 got me to get mine out but sadly its not working anymore :(
Why?
I just realized that the size of the session cube's is roughly the sam size of the human eye, after you remove the guts from the cube it's housed in. You could literally put it in your head if you were missing an eye and while wear glasses record the most high quality stealth video imaginable...
Fantastic for Drone FPV. Drone community has used this little nugget on many a multirotors.
Heeeeeey look what I stumbled across!
Pillars of action!!!

Insta go 2?
I would like to see a new version of the session with the same settings as the Hero 7 Black and a touch screen that would be great
Excellent video!! I still use my 5 Session in 2019 as a helmet cam for 1st person view cause its smaller and less weight
I have the hero 7, 8, and 9 blacks but for some reason I enjoy the simplicity of the hero 5 session more. Definitely wish they still made them.
Bring back the go pro session!
Session 5 is still a very hot camera if you use an FPV freestyle drone. I won’t use any other camera.
I love that little Hero camera.
Thanks for the video! Today bought a new Session 5 for about $150 here in India.
Most I've found are almost the same price as a discounted Hero 7... I think GoPro needs to keep making new lower end models
Love your channel keep up the good work
I would love to hear what do you think about runcam 5! Its popular in the fpv community and some say its a session replacement.
As I commented to another...

Thanks for the vid. All my vids are blogged on one of these. It’s still great 👏👏👏
2021 here, I want one to replace my Hero 4 Session but they still go for $500 +.
Actually looks nicer than I thought.... but im happy with the purchase ive already made The Hero 7

I'll take stabilization lower res over 4k any day
I'm fine with 1080 // 60fps over 4K. Do you prefer the HERO session with no stabilization?

I just picked up a Session 5 on eBay, hoping the battery is still strong, it seems like a great helmet cam for skiing, and motor sports.
Me too. Still waiting for it to arrive. Cost me nearly $500AUS for a re-furbished model.
It’s 2020, I’m waiting on the hero 9 and my little session is here somewhere
