Hi, just a tip, if you want to emulate as close as possible the look of cinema, you need to be chosing a shutter speed which is double your frame rate not the same as your frame rate. So, 24fps should be 1/48th, 30 fps is 1/60th and 60fps should be 1/120th. film cameras used what they call a 180degree shutter angle which is what gives that natural cinema motion. In video this shutter angle always equates to double your frame rate.
Javbomb incredible tip man. i will try it out. thanks. :-)
Also Apply to DSLR Cameras!
I want to buy a GoPro Hero 5 Black. Because I heard that it have a 1/48 shutter, but I don't find anything in the internet about that. Do you know if the Hero5 have the 1/48 shutter?
Yes, if you set the frame rate to 24 fps, the software lets you set 1/48
Javbomb yeah but 24 is the only frame rate that looks cinematic every other frame rate the only thing they have in common is the shutter angle
I love this video it is a big help. I am 62 years old trying to start a UA-cam channel, I need all the help I can get keep up the good work.
+Over the hill and Over the mountain thanks!!
Over the hill and Over the mountain, I'm almost 75 and trying to learn this stuff. I love it though but I need a lot of help too. When you're over the hill it takes a little longer to process information, lol. I hope I come across some of your videos Over the Hill.
I know I'm a few years late to this party, having just acquired a used Hero 5 Black, but I wanted to thank you for this video. It's been quite helpful nearly three years since you created it. And I must say I'm super excited to use this device to record some cool BTS of my work as a sports and portrait photographer.
I got mine today so this video was super 👌🏻
just got my GoPro today and this was very helpful. Thank you!
This video was e-x-a-c-t-l-y what I was looking for before my trip to Hawaii-- extremely educational for a beginner, thanks!
Well DA, I just sat through your whole Vid and have to say I did not find it to long, For myself who at this time needs most things explained ( always been a lazy point and shoot and job done regardless ) I thought it was 20 mins well spent and I'm grateful for the time you took explaining your reason for changes,Good work and thanks mate.
I’m still on my hero5 and love it. Waiting on the 12 . To see if it convinces me to upgrade.
THANKS FOR THIS!
Finally a really good video about this where the reasoning behind the choices is explained :) Very clear and a breeze to watch.
I just purchased the GoPro 5 Black, and after finding your video here, I want to say thanks for sharing all this great info with us. I'm now going to be even happier with my new GoPro now that I have more knowledge about all that it can do. and knowing how to set it up, that makes me happy. Very happy... So, Thumbs up and you have a new subscriber to your channel. I'm looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks....
Great video for someone who's just bought a used GoPro and was looking for advice on its settings, thanks so much!
Thanks for your help. You did a great job explaining in detail most of the settings.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Nothing like a someone with experience sharing freely.
the best heads up & explanation of camera settings & reasons why I have ever heard
you have explained things so well and in a way that even a camera klutz like myself can understand .
you are now my go to man camerawork. great stuff & cheers
+Malcolm Nuku Thanks!!
Great video, thanks for taking the time to explain exactly why you have your settings the way you do! Just got a Hero 5 and excited to take it out into the wild. Cheers
sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know of a method to log back into an instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Mohamed Ezequiel Instablaster =)
@Milan Lee Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm trying it out now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@Milan Lee It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you really help me out !
@Mohamed Ezequiel glad I could help :)
God, you explain everything twice or three times. I got restless legs syndrome watching this. Legs kicking all around waiting for you to hurry up. Good info
Well, I wish I had watched this video before my last outing. Went on a hike outdoors on a sunny day and when I was editing, all my color was saturated. Previously used my GoPro backpacking & never had that issue. Thanks for the tips!
As a new GoPro user I don't feel like this video is lengthy and it needs to speed up as some of the comments mention. I feel like you do a good job and explaining everything well with examples, makes it informative and easy to follow and understand.
As already said well worth the 20 minute watch 👍🏻👍🏻
So much to learn. Really fun so far. I use a Hero3 black and just ordered a 5 black. Thanks for the tips and reply tips. You mentioned stabilization mode. I plan to purchase a gimbal, researching now..
Thanks so much. I actually learned quite a bit here. Love the explanations. I am subscribing
Thanks for your helpful info to sharing with us
this video helped so much, thank you for the video, sir

I have to say that these cameras are amazing to have. I have still the hero 2 pro and now the hero 5 black. 👍
Good for the more advanced person. The wind setting might be good for mountain passes and beach. I used to take a lot of film pics and I like the 1/60 speed and 200 or 100 ISO also. Being long in the tooth now and recording Jeep roads, I'll just probably leave it all in auto.
Exactly what I was looking for! Great job and thanks!
tanks .Jerad, Excellent video...i love my GoPro Hero 5 Black AND GoPro Hero +
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing! 👍 😊
Nice tutorial! Clean crisp video and straight forward.
Excellent video. Tons of really great information and suggestions, most of which I will use. I do want to comment on the portion of the video dealing with the Quick Capture feature.
It does work as advertised, with one small caveat. If you are using an external microphone, though the Go Pro Audio Adapter, Quick Capture does not work properly.
I use my Go Pro to video record my travels on my motorcycle. Since I have the camera mounted on the outside of my helmet, I have to use an external microphone mounted inside my helmet in order to add audio to the video.
I discovered through research using an unpowered external microphone such as what I'm using, if you power the camera on using the Quick Capture, it will only record audio that one single time. Thereafter, pressing the Quick Capture button to activate subsequent video recordings will result in only the video being recorded, not the audio.
The only work around is to power on the camera using the Mode button first. Then you can use the Quick Capture button as intended. The problem with that is the camera will not power down between Quick Capture sessions, meaning it will continue to consume battery power even if you're not recording anything.
You can set the camera to turn off after a predetermined period of time, say 5 minutes, but you will need to power it back on using the Mode, not the Quick Capture button.
Nice video and so educative quick quick guide that has made me learn some thing
extremely helpful! Thank you!
Not a photo buff, but love your explanation of how the Hero 5 Black works with different settings! Thanks!
So clear and simple. Thanks so much
Great video! I just got a Hero 5 and this video helped a lot. Thanks!
This was SOOO helpful!
Works great! Exactly what I needed.
Thank you, Jerad. Really very helpful - even if it is just a trigger to think about my personal preference. You can't make everyone happy.
Thanks so much for your video, it answered my ???? on video setting. Might as well come back here from time to time to review.
Great work! Lots of effort and detailed instructions makes this a valuable tutorial!
Great vid, well explained thank you 👍
Utterly awesome video. Well presented and edited. Informative and easy to follow. Thanks!
Now i can start using my hero 5, thank you
Thanx for your help
Very informative video and all in terminology I can understand, nice job.
any advice regarding specific settings for the hero 5 when mounted on a car?
i know im late but messing with the shutter speed is bad advice i guess if you are in controlled areas and you know how the camera reacts its one thing but ya if you dont have it on auto and go out in daylight you will get the worst recordings ever if it can even record anything. idk if the new black 5s are diff from what you had back then. all settings except auto are bad for me outside in the shutter settings. good tip and the color thing though i just had the old 100 dollar go pro now they are 200 so i got a black 5 but with my old one i never liked to pro tune it in the go pro editor because it always made the shadows super black.. and unrealistic. though it makes water and other colors pop. but they also felt over saturated other times so i didnt use it much for my rookie vids.
Thank you!
Nd filters are a great way to keep your shutter speed down. You said there were no good ways to limit light.
Great help and information. Thank You
Great view of the back of the GoPro when setting and explaining (not everyone does this). Too bad I have a Session....
Great video. Liked very much the details
Please make a video on how to take time lapse videos using GoPro hero black 5/6. Your video backed with real footage’s will be an added advantage.
What's a good video setup for a concert outside in the sun? (Moshing/Crowd Surfing, etc)

Thank my brother
Man you just explain it perfect thank you!
thanks for the intel I pulled it out put memory card in then started shooting then as you know I had some issues
Very clear
Thank you, but 20 minutes to list 5 settings is just too long! The entire tip could fit into the description box under the video and take 20 seconds to read
More watching time= higher ranking=more watcher=more viewers=more subscribers
@@enjoirsx tested this settings, and it's shit... others have better settings
Very helpful. Thank you.
thanks man. Great clarification
Couldn't figure out why the camera kept turning on and recording bursts, or video. Turnrt out the voice command was listening to the video. : )
Actually if your shoot for 60 fps as you say you should choose 1/120th for the shutter speed. Greetings to all.
Thanks for this. What would you recommend for night fall conditions?
@Alabama Crappie Adventures But it's easier to scale things down than up afterwards.
I thought you did a really great job putting things on a layman's level. Can you post some settings that you would use for scuba diving. I'm usually 50ft under the water so there is some light loss even on the sunny days. Also I do some night diving and the only thing you can see is where your flashlight is pointing.
Also can you recommend a selfie style stick that floats?
nice one m8 for the hero5 black
thank you soooo much !!! big love !
Great video. Thanks!
Thanks for info
To turn on you don't have to hold the power button.
Just press it once and release.
Hi 👋🏻 I got this camera from my son in law and I’m excited to use it now! I’m clueless on the accessories, I want to use it to record myself drawing/painting. What can I use to have it above my drawings?
Thanks very informative
Your video was very informative.
great video, thanks
new to the go pro! great tips! looking in the comments are helpful also
cool speach! good info thanks !
Cool TIPS!
Hey Ditch Auto, or anyone else seeing this. Great vidz, thanks for all the tips :)
I'm starting to make some tests on my GoPro hero 5 before going into a road trip, and I can't seem to get the shutter speed right. I film in 2.7k 60 fps, and when I put the shutter speed in 60 fps (or 120fps as another one suggested in the comment) and film outside in a bright day, the video is really overexposed. I can't even see the sky, it's totally burnt. And I'm in ISO 100. BUT when I put my shutter speed in auto, everything's fine. The exposure is good. (But in auto, I can only put my ISO at 400 though, and even the quickest shutter speed in manual can't compare with the auto shutter speed, and I can't change the exposure with manual shutter speed) should I leave it on auto ? Or is there something I'm doing wrong ? My other question would be, if I leave it in auto, does the shutter speed adjust itself when the camera go through different lighting while filming ? I don't want the camera to adjust the shutter speed. If I want a dark place to be dark, I don't want the camera to compensate the lack of light on its own. Any advice ?
Thanks a lot.
i am doing hands on go pro which i borrow from my friend, i want to know the app on mobile for gopro if we use app to contorl gopro for take video or photo does it occupy mobile memory or it is saved in gopro memory card.
Great video, if you plan on doing post work. I'm not sure if the everyday user is going to do that. Any thoughts on doing a "straight off the camera" video"? I really liked this video and will use your tips since I edit in post with Premiere.
what about linear mode? Is that better or worse to use than entering a program to remove fisheye?
I'm a little confused about the shutter speed: You talked about how to set the camera for high speed so you can do slow-motion and lower the shutter speed for low-light video; I almost always shoot walking or stationary subjects often in the bright sunlight. So, does that mean I should do the opposite of what you were saying?
Good point, unless I missed it he did say under what conditions he was shooting under at 1/60 ... in doors maybe? :-/
very instructive
Hey man, great video!
Quick question, for a someone new too vlogging / video editing what program would you best recommend I use to begin start out with?
Great info, thanks! Just got my GoPro Here 5. Going to Cuba in a couple weeks and one of the things we'll be doing is caving. Any suggestions for that?
fun fact Google photos has an edit option for video which can stabilise by cropping the video. I'll record 2k video with stabilization on and if it needs it have Google photos stabilise the video again if it's too shaky, like he said tho it will crop parts of the video out so may not be worth it.
I have a hero5, and have videos on it, but cant upload to the Quick app. Quick app says no new data. Whats the fix?
why i dont have these settings on my gopro hero 5???? idont have 60fps for 2.7k its only 50fps and other settings that i see in the video i dont have them why??????
Very helpful video for a GoPro Newbie. Quick question please. What camera/video & external mic if applicable did you use to record this video with your black background. It is very clear and your audio great. I am assuming, given your expertise, that you did not use the GoPro 5. Any information you could provide would be very helpful. Thank you.
Great video!
Good video, thank you. Just one problem with my camera, the image gets so white (almost can't see anything) after i locked iso 400. Is it how supposed to be, or i have done some settings wrong? Looking forward for your reply. Many thanks.
Very good video Thanks
What do you think the best setting is for action ? Like zip lining for example? I was thinking using 2.7k 60fps shutter speed 1/120
How did it turn out?
thanks!
Thanks for tips! Can I also use this setting for my Gopro Hero3+ Black (video and photo)
I love your video , I learned a lot just with a short 20 min video. Quick question what program do you use for editing ? would you recommend using quik or go pro studios?
whats the best settings for motorcycle?
