Thanks for the info, I just ordered the RS 4 Pro Combo and Im using my Sony A7r 4. I retired from the military 2 yrs ago and started a small business taking pictures and videos for real estate and social media. Theres a lot to learn from all this technology! Great video!
Hi! Congrats for your video! A question, how the system works with long lenses with more than 1 meter of minimum focus distance? I work with 85mm with 1.3 meters of minimum focusing... and the two distance fir calibration is 4 and 1 meter...
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Mi e just arrived, am having issues calibrating my Sirui Jupiter lenses even if it’s listed in the App. Can you touch more on how to manually calibrate it please?
I just followed the instructions of dialing in my focus target at 1m then at 4m, making sure to pay attention to 1) the distance of the LiDAR unit to the sensor (which should be marked on your camera body) and 2) making sure my focus was super sharp on both calibration points (best done at the widest aperture possible to get the thinnest depth of field possible)
hello ! I have a 24-70 sigma lens. But I can't configure it for autofocus. Is it because of the type of lemte? Would it have to be, for example, a 35mm lens and not a 24-70?
Actually, with the High Bright monitor, when you add the SDI-out module, does it transmit the LIDAR overlay to any monitor? I know there's still a big issue of signal delay (DJI Transmission is not 0-delay unlike Teradeks or Vaxis), but having LIDAR overlay on any monitor would be awesome!
Great review David! Do you power your hand grip from the d-tap port of your v-mount? I deperately want to do this but im worried I'll damage my DJI system if I do!
I haven’t tried it because I was just running off of the grip battery BUT I think you should be okay if you use a proper D-TAP to USB-C converter. I just tested it out and it does charge the hand grip (but of course I’m not 100% sure if it would cause issues in the long run, my intuition says no but your mileage may vary). This is the converter I’m talking about btw! amzn.to/4dCbHqh I imagine this one would work as well as long as the cable length is good for your setup: amzn.to/3MuyV5O

Would you recommend this unit over the pd movie? Would you say this unit can be really trust for autofocus for a short film? How loud are the motors? If I shoot a doc with an ibises microphone would it be okey as look as I don’t go crazy rack focus ?
If you only need 4M range (talking head stuff, not too far from the camera, on a focal length between 24-50ish), I think the PDMovie is a more compact solution (and cheaper). But, if you want a ROBUST system, this is unbeatable. I would say you COULD trust it, though I'd still be ready to take over manual control of the AF in situations like a second subject/object crossing the frame and covering the main subject. This system is definitely good enough to support what you want, but you just have to make sure you learn the system so it doesn't throw any curveballs at you!

I have been waiting for this day for years! Finally they stepped up. Do you think it would work with vintage lenses like Canon FD 50mm 1.8, i use it with an adapter for my A7S III, but not sure if it would work or not? Great video David!
Yes! They come with rubber gear belts that you can attach to lenses without gears. The setup process would be the same and this is exactly why I’m so into these systems-like being able to turn a Helios 422 lens into an AF lens is awesome
@@DavidZhou That is great, so glad this is now a possibility. How would you say it is compared to Sonys Auto Focus internally for normal shots? Do you trust this system , so you can even walk away form the camera and know the shot is in focus if you are filming a talking-head for an interview? Hey man, great review. I recently purchased the Lidar so now I'm gutted they have just updated it. Do you have experience with the original Lidar and if so how would you compare it? Cheers
Hey! Unfortunately I don’t have the original LiDAR system, but from what I’ve seen the biggest difference would be the range (20m vs something like 14-16m on the original). Another benefit of the new system is using the grip as your “hub”, and having a more compact setup. Outside of that if you have either the hub or are using it with the gimbal, you still have the AI subject recognition/active track. I hope that helps a little!
They’re both easy to use. The PDMovie Live Air 3 Smart is a little bit easier to set up since it’s a smaller package but is “harder” to work with due to its 4m range limit, so it just depends on what your shooting needs are!
Would it be possible to use DJI Focus Pro on an RS 3 mini? The Grip connected on the gimbal side, considering that (camera, lens, LiDAR and focus motor) were within the 2kg load of the RS 3 mini.
If you have the cine versions (geared), then it’s plug and play. If not, you’d just need to use the provided rubber gear ring(s). Though I don’t recall if the Sigma 18-35 is parfocal, if not, then you’d need to create a lens profile for each of the focal lengths in the zoom that you’d plan to use.
Sure this may work for single-op one-person setup, but as a focus puller, the weak point to this is that in order to get the birds-eye LIDAR overlay, you have to go thru the high-bright monitor which DOES NOT have SDI output (I'd want to output video to my SmallHD 1303) and it has latency. I work solo video productions and work with clients-I still utilize MF/cine lenses for projects as well as for the UA-cam channel. I just don’t work on teams/crews. This product still has use cases outside of big productions and that’s what I’m focusing most of my time here on. Which is also why I disclosed that for wireless focus pulling, it’s not something that I personally have experience with but based on limited testing I wanted to give my general thoughts as to not skip over an entire use case of the new system. 😅

Just start by saying that this is a commercial, please.
I would love to see how this new lidar does on film sets with haze. The previous one would stop working and mess up once we introduced haze to the set and became unusable
I don’t have a hazer anymore or I’d test this 😭 but if I had to guess I’d honestly say it would probably be the same outcome (with maybe slightly better reliability compared to the previous LiDAR since the newer one has longer range, suggesting stronger lasers).

Wait what? Where do you see that 😮
👍🏾🙏🏾 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
You seem almost SOOO believable. Or Hmmm.. NO. Hope paid you well for your soul. Sad indeed.
You are "reviewing" this product, yet you say "I have never actually been on a production". Well... Ok. Maybe that should have been your first step as a reviewer of a production assistant product. CHRIST
@@DavidZhou Your review looses all credibility since you are telling people how great it is, not criticism, but turns out you never been on a real production. Same as I review a restaurant product without even having worked in a restaurant. I get it, I cook food, we all do. That doesn't make us chefs with restaurant know-how.
Your Instagram link isn’t working
Which one? Where? 😮
@@DavidZhou in your description! Are you in Tampa?
Huh-weird it works when I click on it. But yes, I am!
@@DavidZhou that’s insane, are you visiting ? Or are you based here ?
@MountUpMedia based here! Born and raised in Pinellas Park haha
