Seeing you eating the cake mixture reminded me of when I was a kid many years ago and my mother was making a cake in the kitchen. My brother ran into the kitchen and said ‘mummy, mummy, can I lick the bowl’ to which my mother replied ‘no, flush the chain like everybody else’. 🤣😂🤣😂

Thanks for the review! That cake looked delicious.
I have a "half and half" 2 x silicone liner set for my Omnia which seem quite rare but are great for smaller portions. Basically 2 x separate half moon shapes. Can't remember the make but pretty sure they are not official.
You can cook a Shepherds pie or lasagne or pasta bake etc in one liner and a pudding or cake mix in the other at the same time.

I've wanted one for a few years but they're expensive for what they are. I'd like to see Yorkshire pudding done it it and see if the top browns or not.
I've used a deep saute pan before many times with a cooling rack cut to fit the bottom, then a tin on the rack, lid on and you can make all sorts like pizza, bread, cakes, Yorkshire pudding, flapjacks etc.

    About safety of silicone molds:
    can you check this, Andy:
    The “Twist” Test
The “twist” test is an easy way to assess the quality of a silicone cookware item. All you have to do is take a silicone product in your hands and twist it. If lots of white streaks appear, it indicates the presence of a large number of fillers. Pure silicone (safer) will hold its color when twisted. (5)

I've had one of those butane stoves for quite a few years now, it's never failed me. Not the thing for back-packing, but like you I tend to camp from my truck, or my motorcycle, so space isn't usually an issue.
I would have never thought of baking a cake with it though.
Now you've got me thinking for the upcoming season. It's - 20 C, and snow here now, so it will be at least April before even considering camping.
How to impress your friends at your next group camp - bake a cake!

I'm dutch. I don't think its a dutch invention. Not even a dutch manifacturer. All chinese i imagine.
It sure has a long term use in the Netherlands. A oven was not very common in small living spaces. Maybe on wood but more likely on petroleum before gas was found in Slochteren in the sixties. Those ovens where a bit dangerous and stinky. Petroleum sets to cook on was very common before and after the war. That is where this oven is designed for. Low temperture flame and costfriendly in petroleum use.
Even with a mothern oven at hand in my kitchen i use this system very often. For baking bread, cake and 'hartige taart'. A cake or pie with (precooked) vengatebles en meat and cheese. Just on the smallest burner and on medium high. It realy don't need mutch heat.
Jour version is supurbe. It has all this disadvantidges of my old version tackelt. Only my version has a see trough perix lid with a hole to push a nitting neadle trough to test if the cake is ready without the nead to lift the lid. A cake can collaps then.
I can recommand this kit to everyone. It's a great product and great fun to cook with.

    • @brandweerquest

BTW..as i speak now, my wife is making 'stoofvlees' on our petroleumset in the shed (stinky) with lots of ventilation (and save nois and electricety). It will take several hours to simmer. But on the good old petroleumset it's no problem. About half a liter petroleum cost...? 😊

I've had an Omnia oven for about 2 years now, and it's been a fantastic solution to baking things in camp. The only downside is that things don't brown very well, but that's really more of an aesthetic thing. I've baked maybe 20-30 cakes in mine, and have found that the lowest setting on the stove flame gives the best results. It doesn't take much to get things too hot and end up with burned bits, but the technique will come with a few uses. Our shop used to buy cakes for employee birthdays, but we now use the Omnia, and it's fun to see the looks on some customers faces when they smell the goodness and see what we're doing. Thanks for the review, and for the great content!

Get a different thermometer at Amazon, drill the hole bigger and pay less, also they sell big silicon molds, I believe they’re from “giant” donuts, cut the handles, pay about $9 dollars for the silicone insert, the only thing I had to buy from them aside from the oven was the metal tray. Interesting bit of kit there Andy, looks good. I wonder how it would work on top of a hot tent wood stove? Might have to find a way to hold it off a little for lower temperatures? Worth a try?
Looking forward to seeing how your Calzone turns out.
