I have one of these stoves, the door should always stay open and face the wind direction. The wood should be cut longer and allowed to rest on the door, hence pushed forward when it gradually burns out.
I just bought one its spot on Top tip If you put the handles on the front and back of the box in the upright position then place the grill on top with the loops over the handles the handles stay up and Act as a pan rest😉 It also helps keep it rigid and put the ash tray with the lip facing down 😊 The pan as a half inch gap so fire can now breath 😋 Happy campin🍻👍👊
There are two versions of these, one with the pegs as above and the one I've got where the grate hinges down and rests on metal hooks on the sides. It's pretty solid, no problem picking it up by the handles and moving. The ash plate slides in the same. Of course, you miss the Trangia option unless you drill extra holes Edit: the Redcamp one linked above is like mine, see the rivets for the clips on the side. Recommended!
I have the same one had it for about a year and its still going strong and I use it for fires buring all night aswell it's been well worth the 20 qwid I paid for it
Finally, someone understand and appreciate the value and products ability they paid for. because most people tended to criticize just hearing it is made in China and immediately thinks cheap and trash.
I have one of these, I can start a fire inside it, it’s fantastic works very well. Getting that blue sticky plastic off was a real pain but apart from that the stove is great.
Oh am I glad I bought the Redcamp version. The fire grate is hinged inside the unit, so when you unfold it. The grate drops down and engages a hook built into the folding sides and locks it into place. Then yep, you got the ash pan right, and the top grate, only fits in one way really. Other then that, its a good little stove that I thought I'd never buy. Mine weighs in at 1.9 pounds, and also comes in a case. I bought mine to primarily use it with the Military Trangia Spirit Burner.
Im a propper fan boy of this stove had mine over 4 years ..i prefer this over the bushbox xl ,over that time iv implemented a few changes and it still blows my mind and i love the door small fires big fires i love it x
Yep pretty solid stove I have the hinged bottom grate and the pegged version both work well and you don’t need a wind block but if you use one it reflects the heat to you well in cold weather. Have fun stay safe.
Great review. Got the same one by Redcamp. Mine doesn't have the pins, when you open it the bottom grate is hinged and it drops into place. I did a couple of modifications to mine. Added a lower grate with smaller holes. Put a flat washer under the keyring on the latch, and found out the ash pan wouldn't go in all the way because I had it upside down. The bent end faces down.
With one simple mod this is in my opinion by far the best stainless steel folding wood stove on the market for the price. Been using mine for quite a while and has never given me any trouble. I wouldn't hesitate in buying another one if I lost this one... Even over a Firebox.
I got one of them- rock solid and apart from the nasty blue film coating I can recommend it. I didn't get pegs with mine. As for the latchh I tightened mine when I did my first inspection and burn. I use a foil try below- no dramas.
Glad to see that you don't turn your nose up at something just because it's "budget". A fair review, I thought. Is it a premium stove? No. Is it worth the price and does it have its place? Heck yeah.
Hi Andy I've got one of these and yes I've had to do a few modifications such as a cross pan support about an inch high which seems to work well, yes it is cheap and the build quality is questionable but as an entry level wood stove It doesn't break the bank🙂
I agree with the comments. I have the hinged grate version which locks up nicely and holds things rigidly. The dor works fine when you realiseits just a simple latch. I bought mine in the middle east where is cost an amazing £11. As a consequence i bought two and by removing a hinge pin from the side i can join them together for when i need two pans on the go. Another tip, if the hinge pins fall out, put a slight bend in them and they will grip tightly. Rickety...nonsense..hahaha
I also have one , the door I sorted by putting a small soft spring to take up slack between the key ring and door so its under pressure :, seem to work 🙂👍
the fuel door on a 45 ° or 50° might make it work like a rocket stove.. say a hook & eye or a chain & slot arrangement to hold the fuel door at the desired angle ... .. if feasible .. it would allow longer sticks to be used...
i got one myself, 90% the same as this one. only the floor part is on a hinge and u just press it into place. what makes it very solid already. i bought it in 2020 for only 18€, its by far the best bushcraft ive bought for 18€ only.
Thanks for the demonstration, on the back of it have ordered the cheap £19.99 one through your link with the added bonus that they now take off the protective film for you
I have one of these, you can raise up the 2 side handles and clip them in the upright position with a bit of wire so that you can get better airflow for boiling quicker. But then it gets hot so you have to use pliers on a multi-tool to remove it for other cooking. I think it should be possible to get some sheet metal and make a pot stand that either sits on top with the good airflow, or slots into grooves cut into the stove with an angle grinder to make it flush and reduce airflow for normal cooking
Great video. I have the different version. The grate is inside and folds down locking into the sides. I love this stove, it's easily lit. I use it with alcohol stove and dry wood. The only issue is bigger pans blocking the air it's not a issue with a pot stand.
Nice to see. On photos it looks smaller. But it is a small stove. And Everyone must check: If it`s ok for him, or too small ? Anyway, it works. And you have showed it. So thank you, for the video. Greetings from sw germany.
I've got that stove...had it a couple years. It works very well. Also have the fireboxes....have used this stove many times...I use it with door open. Yes it is rickety. But cooks well if your careful
Hi Andy i got one off ebay £16.00 i have made 2 stainless cross from corner to corner 25mm high. This seems to make it more rigid and helps air flo when it has a skillet on Works great now Regards Gaz
I’ve got similar stove .. you can open the door easy … I’ve cooked a curry on it no problems.. when you open mine a plate drops down it’s amazing stove stick stove think it cost me £13 from China .. really happy with it
They're cheap as chips now. Got an eBay bid bargain at £8.50. Could easily get one for £12. Mines got the fixed grate inside that flaps down holding it better. I drilled a few holes for vents and 2 for my trangia. Love it
I have a Redcamp version of this in large. If I need to carry a burner in my pack I would take a little rocket stove. But for car camping, or if you plan on doing proper cooking, these things are great. You basically have a decent, stable platform for doing decent cooking with camp cookware or full size pans. Much more efficient and useful than trying to balance your little camping cup on a log fire whilst you spill your noodles into the embers lol
I've got same 1 works amazing I've had mine 2yrs no problem I got mine from eBay £10.. Got some great patina on mine I burn for hours & hours In mine, cools down quick too..
The redcamp model they sell today does not have the pegs for the bottom grate which is hinged and makes it less rickety. Ali express sells stainless steel floor drain plates and grills the right size to close up the bottom holes. I bought both to give my the option of using wood pellets with the drain or just firewood using the added grate, which is much like your top grate in hole size. These are great stoves for those on a budget. I love mine and nowadays they remove the blue film.
Thanks Andy, got one had to modify with grate made of perforated plate from work and added slots at the top for the grill handles. Can't complain for the price👍🏻🏴⛺
Aye I have this one too, I added an extra grate to the bottom because I found the holes too big and it was hard to get the fire going. Grate in and it works great. I like the door as it supports the wood. Overall it's OK but I don't use it too much. Cheers Andy.

nice review - I have three great high-end stoves that I pretty much use but was wondering about one of these cheaper versions to throw in the vehicle as a just in case - so this helped a lot. thanks Andy
Nice informative vid. You just reminded me that I've got one of those stashed away somewhere 😂. Seem to remember it doing the trick. Might dig it out. Takecare 👍
They are certainly good value, I find them excellent for a quick boil etc but not as good for longer cooks or for a small camp fire as they are soo efficient and fuel hungry
That's a good review, sir. Thanks for doing it. Not quite sure i can put my finger on why, but this is way more useful (in my eyes) than "another headtorch" review (o; Cheers!

I much prefer the Firebox to this Chinese low-budget scrap. When you are dealing with fire you need ample security and such starts with a good product that is safe to use, that is solid and reliable.
I have this stove. It's fine for throwing in a car-camping kit, but takes up a lot of space in a backpack if you're trying to go with a lightweight kit...
I think it would cook a lot better if you were to get four small rocks or four glass marbles and space them out on the grill to set your pan on. And also open up the door on the side to allow more air to come in. I have made a few of these out of metal cans. For you use it you should spray paint it with black barbecue grill heat resistant paint. It can help reduce corrosion and protect it from rust assuming it doesn't get so hot it burns off. Because I know it has its limits but it was designed for barbecue grills so it might work on it. It works on my other cooking pans I take out. If you want a good free one, go behind a restaurant with a buffet and get a large green bean can or other metal can. And you can cut a side hole to add more materials. Small holes around the top and even cut down a little ways to allow air to come in, and then some holes around the bottom for air to come in usually about half inch above the bottom of the can. If you use a can opener to make the top holes you can bend them up enough to where it will lift the pan up off the edge providing some space too but you don't want to leave the impart Sharp
Haven’t you reviewed one of these before you made the review channel?anyway I own one and I like to use it along side my firebox 5”,i use it to pre heat coals ready to feed into the firebox and it has performed so far
Hmm...I bought the same stove, but the fire grate on mine folds down immediately upon opening; also, try inserting those hanging side-handles into the ears on the top grill, which will stabilize it on top when cooking. The door is an admittedly frustrating thing, as the latch isn't well conceived. I bent the ring so that it is easier to turn when blazing hot. The door needs to be open, usually, to allow air flow. Overall, i have used this stove extensively, and i must give it excellent grades in all areas...except for that frustrating blue plastic, lol.
Not all of us have companies that send us stuff for free or have the money to buy the most expensive ones. We have to use what we can afford or not do anything. I made a home made stove and it may not be as lite but I would matchnit up against any of the other ones
Been looking at these for a while now but the folding ones never really seem to be that good. Might as well just pay a little extra and get a more well made one in my opinion
@@kentsurvivalgearreview586 checking out amazon quickly and this same company do another factory generic wood burner that clips together like your other stoves for about £12, already looks like a better design to me and cheaper than the folding one here. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that one from them too

If you use a can opener to make the top holes you can bend them up enough to where it will lift the pan up off the edge providing some space too but you don't want to leave the impart Sharp
Amazing video👍
Thx for the review 👍
Anyone use it with long wood sticks and with open door . Is there any difference use it open and close door
What is the little titanium bushbox called? I looked on the website but didn't see any small ones like it that are hinged.
Hi Andy, great video. where do you get your bacon from? I'm only down the road in Sittingbourne. Cheers.
I made a home made stove and it may not be as lite but I would matchnit up against any of the other ones
either way it puts out a honkin good flame
I would change out the latch with a wooden draw pull
Bacon again frying in a pan Andy - thank you 🥓🙏🏾👏🏽
does a Trangia burner actually fit on those pegs properly?
I had one of these 3 years ago it did the job but I gave it away eventually
Been looking at these for a while now but the folding ones never really seem to be that good. Might as well just pay a little extra and get a more well made one in my opinion
yeah, the extra engineering does show the budget but its a definite option if someone cant justify or afford the more expensive brands :)
@@kentsurvivalgearreview586 checking out amazon quickly and this same company do another factory generic wood burner that clips together like your other stoves for about £12, already looks like a better design to me and cheaper than the folding one here. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that one from them too
Did you say Peg as in Simon Peg, you Brits always throwing props out
