+Nicholas Sim Let us know if you have any other questions at explore@samthelocal.com :)
+Nicholas Sim you should try tofu pudding and egg tarts if you like desserts or mantis shrimp and steamed fish if you like seafood.... Char sui is delicious too (chinese bbq pork)
There's so much awesome food in hk hope you have time to try them all!
Hello ladies, I am from Oklahoma City here in the USA. My daughter just moved to Hong Kong about 6 months ago to teach English . I found this video fascinating and very interesting. Thank you. You are delightful.
Oh that last shop selling sugarcane juice! Go for their coconut milkshake instead of sugarcane. That shop is the only one that sells it and it tastes sooo gooood!!
I have no idea how I came across this video but thanks! I can't wait to finally return and visit my childhood place this summer! It's been 6 years since I went back so I'm very excited, especially the food!

Sam the local new video
I love honhkong lots of street food so yummy my new friend here
You girls are brave, I couldn't bring myself to try the tentacles when I was there, you made it look pretty good though, maybe next time 😀
Some of the things are worth trying once. The tentacles are pretty good, despite how they look!
Have tried the siu mai and the egg waffle... wish I had seen the rice rolls! Will get those next trip for sure. Great video ladies. :-)
The rice rolls aren't always obvious since they are usually covered. People sometimes stand around with plates and poking at them with skewer sticks, or eating them out of paper bags. Glad you enjoyed the video!
this is great, thanks for sharing! i'd like to know the exact locations (street names) of this please. thanks again! :)
Dundas Street in Mong Kok has a lot of these places!
Do let us know if you would let one of our Local insiders to show you to these places and other great food spots and activities, such as hiking, history walks, tai chi, martial arts, and hearing about local stories. :)
Hi, Your video is very good and the street food look very tasty. I'm going to Hong Kong in one week and I really want to go to Mong Kok Market. So this is really good to know. You girls are natural and funny that makes the video even better. I wanna try the food at once, it looks so new and different of what I'm used to. I'm live in Sweden.
Do you have any film clip how the subway looks like? It would be interesting to see.
I have liked the video and subscribed to your channel.

Hong Kong definitely has quite the variety in food, and we agree!
Thanks ladies :) x
Glad you liked it!
This was a really cool video & sometimes very funny also. I'm travelling to Hong Kong *tomorrow* from London, so looking forward to trying some of these foods. The only problem I had with this video is that it made me HUNGRY!!!! LOL. Thanks -glad I watched it before dinner!!
We've definitely heard it before. Some people re-watch and then get hungry again! I so wanna come to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan. Those are my dream destinations.
It's a place worth going. And from personal experience Taiwan and Japan are great places as well. Super good food in all places!
are these found on hk island side as well instead of kowloon side?
Mong Kok is one of its popular places for street food and shopping.
And lkk is our favourite eggettes :) you gals should try it!
+Ollie Umma One of our favorites too! Just the right amount of crispiness on the outside and perfect amount of chewiness on the inside!
Grew up in HK in the '80s , I so miss the street food ... cant get anything like it here in Scotland :( really need to go back. Thanks for the video.
+RavenHeadInn Wonder how the street food has changed since the '80s! Maybe you can experiment and make your own street food...or alternatively you can fly here for some food and exploring. :)
Sam the Local Yeh,its all changed now ... no Tamar anymore etc I used to live in the flats next to Happy Valley Race Track. So many awesome memorys , especially the food :)

Could you tell me what are the ingredients for egg waffles?
Sooo delicious 😊😊 i hope this pandemic will stop. I want to visit honkong😢
You two are so cute! Great video!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Hi Maggie and Anita! My friends and I were going to HK this coming May 2019. May I ask where is the specific street in Mongkok can we eat the street foods. Thank you very much. Lots of love from the Philippines.
Reymart SR Sison lmao late but there’s actually street food everywhere here you don’t have to go to Mong Kok and depending where you’re staying, there’s a high chance that there’s a bunch of street food nearby
This is a really cute video 😊 I’m currently studying in Hong Kong but I’m originally from England, and I’ve tried a few of these foods! Egg waffles (or egg puffs as I’ve heard them be called) are really delicious! Curried fish balls are also one of my favourites 👍 thank you for the video ladies, don’t understand why so many people are being rude in the comment section! x
A video about the local crafts and quality gifts would be good :)
Will keep it in mind!
Rice rolls my fav miss it
mmmmm I really want to try those tentacles on a stick now! Loved the egg balls :) great video!
+Carly Starr Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! :D
love fish ball in curry soup!!
see you in 6 day HK!
Yum! Also check out our site at www.samthelocal.com to get more local insider tips/info from our blog and our Locals. :)
Mongkok is seriously my favourite place in hong Kong.
It definitely has a lot of different things to see and eat.
It's impossible to find it in US and Canada like this way... I like to travel to HK for the street food.
Hi may i know the Eggettes stalk is in where? mong kok? which streets? thanks in advance.
They're in a lots of places. Definitely some in Mongkok. Look for where there are street food stalls :)
guys the Gai Dan Zai (Eggetes) is literally a MUST TRY it's so goooood
Yes! Quite some good spots around! Did you see our video on how they are made?
Tai po and Yeung long (mainly Tai po) are really good with street foods...
Thanks
Nice Video, we ate the Grilled squid and Eggetes in that area. The Eggettes is that specific store where you bought yours too. They have really good eggettes and there's always kinda line in their waffle store. That place is somewhere near Dundas St. right?
P.S. We're from the Philippines. We do have some relatives living in HK. Mom's cousins.
Glad you got to try a lot of the different foods. Yes, you're right. It's near Dundas Street. For our Behind-the-Scenes on how eggettes are made: ua-cam.com/video/pXMIstyDZf4/v-deo.html
Hope you enjoyed your time in Hong Kong. For more info about HK, visit our blog at www.samthelocal.com/blog-2
Apart from eggettes and pineapple bun, are there other baked buns or pastries sold on streets?
Baked buns are usually sold in bakeries, which you can stop into. There are some bakeries and shops that have a kiosk where you can buy the baked goods from, which could include egg tarts, cocktail buns, BBQ pork buns...
i am going hk in july 1st time i will definitly try the foods you have shown and i like the video
+Vinh Ly Glad you enjoyed the video. Check out our blog for other sharings on food and what makes Hong Kong special: samthelocal.com/blog-2!

Thanks for the tips! Can't wait to try those eggettes haha.
No problem! Let us know if you are looking for more tips!!
How about the best ways to communicate with locals without much (if any) experience with the language
In certain districts, English will be fine, and in some areas locals only speak Cantonese. In this case, it depends what you are trying to do. If you are ordering food and the menu has pictures you can point. That's also the reason we have the Sam the Local platform. You may book locals to take you on customized experiences. They can show you the places to go, you can hear their stories (as they also speak English) and they can help you order/translate and you would also know what's good!
The Eggeuttes are nice, this Chinese restraunt I go in England to sells them and they are delicious!
There are so many varieties you can try in Hong Kong too!
Hong Kong reminded me of my lactose intolerance, they put condensed milk in all flour and sweet products when I lived there more than 50 year ago. I missed the roast goose most.
At least there is no lactose products in the roast goose! There are alternative options and a wide variety of snacks that you will likely find something that works for you, such as sugar cane juice, pineapple buns, and Chinese herbal jelly.
Great video. What street in mongkok did you go to get those yummy food?
It's over a few different streets, but this is Dundas Street.
great vid. Where in the US did you guys live? i would like my ABC kids to visit where i was born someday
+Gunman1628 We are from California. Love living in Hong Kong now! Hence, we started Sam the Local so we can allow people to discover unique activities by having a platform of curated people that have been vetted by our team to show people around Hong Kong for customized experiences.
what do you call eggettes in Cantonese?
Haha I live in the UK and I visited Hong Kong back in July... Watched this video and I ended up trying cuttlefish and egg waffles which were both so good. Stayed on MacDonnell Road in Central which was a fantastic location- so easy to get around. Miss Hong Kong so much now though. Definitely my favourite place in the World.
Glad you got to try some new snacks. Just make plans to come back to Hong Kong again. Let us know if you will be back or friends coming who want tips!
i am a hong konger你好我是香港人(hi i am a hong kong people)i tried street cuz they are good n my fav is siu mai with soil
Don't watch this on an empty stomach lol. Those fish balls are a MUST!
We've had people tell us that each time they watch it, they would have to run out and get some street food, or the most similar thing they could find to it! You're right. Be careful when you watch it. Food shops around you better be open!
We have one decent place for those fish balls here but miss that you can basically get great tasting ones almost everywhere in HK!
That means it's time to return for all the food!
Looks good. What kind of fish its made from?
delicious food
Hi, what would you recommend for a nice and affordable place to stay there in HK
We've had some friends visit who have stayed in some different areas in the city. Maybe shoot us an email at explore@samthelocal.com and we could try to recommend something based on your preferences :)
The fried intestine is the best. Always put sweet hoisin sauce and mustard on it. Tastes even better!
They are quite unique snacks and surprised us too!
Can you write out the word for chewy? English or hanzi pls.
Please give the name of street where you had those snacks.
Many of them can be found on Dundas Street in Mong Kok. If you would like one of our Locals to show you to other great food options and seeing/hearing more stories about Hong Kong, visit www.samthelocal.com/locals to book your own private, customized experience.
I leave in HK and everything you showed I tried! Plus I live in Monk Kok so I've been to all the places you been! is so awesome!!!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed and they are things you would recommend also.
What other street foods do you like?
I have something to add to the egg waffle their is a normal waffles as well, its like a sandwich waffle as the bread peanut butter for the inside . And their is more if I see any new ones I would comment again if you like :D
Ah yes. The waffle folded in half with the peanut butter, butter, sugar, and condensed milk filling. Those are quite yummy as well! Please share as you come across others you like!
There is a egg that is very small I'm not sure what they are called but you can find them in places where they cook potatoes I am not sure if they are street food but I find them in the streets
The brown spotted ones are quail eggs. They are in carts around Hong Kong during winter time. The stands also sell sweet potatoes and chestnuts.
making me hungry & wishing i was back in hk
You should return! :P
:) just showed all my friends around hk! You girls are so cute, do you live here too?
+Ollie Umma We live in Hong Kong. Love it here, hence we started Sam the Local here so people can explore Hong Kong with unique experiences with our curated Locals!
in Cambodia, sugarcane juice cost only 0.50 usd for big glass. it seem much different between Cambodia and Hong Kong.
In Bangladesh that costs 0.12 USD
Hong Kong rent is quite expensive. Many of these shops make up for this difference through the amount they charge for the product.
hi sam. where in Hongkong i will find these street food? where in mongkok? thanks. We will be there this coming May 2017
A lot of these options can be found on Dundas Street. If you would like someone to show you around the Mong Kok area or explore other parts of Hong Kong, feel free to visit www.samthelocal.com/locals and one of our locals can take you on a private, customized experience. :)
most of the street food is in mong kok.because i am a hong konger你好
I like it your video :) subscribed your channels..keep upload :D
Thank you for your support! For more interesting content you can also check out our blog :) samthelocal.com/blog-2
@samthelocal ok I will see it..but I am really enjoy about your video :)
sui mai and fish balls are everywhere. i've never tried the stinky tofu and don't really have the desire to. they had fresh tofu fa and fresh hot roasted chestnuts sold in food carts when i was in hk years ago but you said hk eliminated food carts which is a shame. hope they found a stall. love the sugar cane drink, egglets, and the squid with hoisin and chilli sauce. i still remember having squid when i was a kid. relatives would get me white sugar cake when i was a kid. love the stuff.
You must have come in the winter if you saw the fresh, hot roasted chestnuts. They are still around in the winter. They're technically illegal, but they're around. You may come across them as you walk around. The fresh tofu fa is still sold in some shops. We see them less frequently on the street carts though.
There are so many other kinds of street food that we didn't get to include, such as noodles in a bag, fried chicken drumsticks, takoyaki balls, etc. Too much to get through!
Lmao her chew at 5:57 didn’t convince me
HAHAHA
Awesome video, totally love u girls... Anyway, it will be best to tell the shop name. I love to go there on next months.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed the video. The shops sometimes close down and change due to high rents. We did want to showcase the different varieties of food you would see around in different districts. If you want to know the best and our Locals' favorites, our Locals can always show you on your own customized experience!

We were aiming to share the general types of street food that you would found throughout Hong Kong, but for these places we specifically we went to, they were in Mong Kok. To learn more about us, you may also visit www.samthelocal.com. There you may also find more blog posts about food in Hong Kong. Happy Planning!
HK street food is awesome. I miss it a lot, especially cheung Fun and fish balls. What street in MongKok is that street vendor located? Next time when I go to HK, I will definitely go there.
It's on Dundas Street. Everything we tried was yummy. Since you enjoyed our food post, you may enjoy our blog post on pineapple buns! samthelocal.com/hong-konnovation-pineapple-buns-菠蘿包/
Is it close to the MongKok train street? How many blocks away from MongKok train station are Dundas Street. I left Hong Kong when I was very small, I don't really know which street is which anymore.
If you take the MTR, it is 3 blocks from Mong Kok Station E2 exit.
If you are interested in trying street food, and seeing how the city and food scene has changed, you may book an experience with one of our locals to take you on a customized, private experience, then you get to try all the stuff you want without getting lost! :D
“It would remind you of childhood”
OMG! i should have seen this video before :O I passed thousand times in front of this place in Mong Kok
+Carles González Yea, sometimes it's unexpected. These places appear unassuming. That's why you need a Local to show you around!
nice shot when you said toys.
+Derek Tang :P
I'm in Hong Kong for holidays and eggetes are the best
Yes! If that's the case, you should definitely keep an eye out for the video we have coming out next week!
