    Hey ivan . Being that we both have been detailing for about the same length of time I'm sure you remember the " acid rain " problem on the mid / late 80s . That was crazy . I remember a few companies coming out with products to combat it .

      Yes, if we would’ve had ceramic coatings then it would helped.

    One reason why I personally don't like Si02 type coatings. Many "nano" coatings for one look overly glossy to me making the paint look like a toy car. 2, water spots. I live in an area where we get Monsoon's. It will be 110F out, Thunderstorm hits, temps drop to 70F with 40mph winds, rain for 15 minutes HEAVY then the sun pops back out and your back to 110F again all while your "Coated" car is covered in water beads. Then as the beads dry with all the contaminants from the storm and wind stirring up dirt, you get etching on the paint. Its SO bad that you basically have to re polish, if not compound your entire car. To me? That is not "protecting" my car. I found another way to keep my car protected WITHOUT the use of "nano" coatings that holds up way better under these circumstances, though its a process that has to be reapplied every 3 months or so. I won't go into what I use to not seem like I am pushing a product. So yeah nano coatings are great under the right circumstances and under others? They are horrible. It is what it is.

      Thank you. Yes in such situations a coating isn’t always the only alternative. Where waterspots are unavoidable, I use a coating as a base then apply a wax to the coating to lightly dull beading, and at the same time the wax absorbs and releases the minerals.

      Any chance to find out what product do you use? I park my car outside and had ceramic coating done 2 years ago and I sure see water spots from rain and the outside elements. No water sprinkles here etc.
      I would love to learn more about your method and the product you are using.

      @@XL_BEAR I am not sure if I can say here without getting banned or deleted from the creators here but will try and see what happens. 1st, the products I am using have been proven to work by what I have applied them on. One vehicle is a Nissan Frontier Pickup that my wife's drives that is Black, our other vehicle is a VW GTI that is white. 2nd. The products I use are not expensive, and do not require nowhere near the prep work a nano coating requires. 3. The products do need to be re applied more frequently to keep them at max protection rate. So this is what I use, and what has worked living in the SoCal desert region where we get temps pushing 120F+ in the summer and crazy Monsoons with crazy wind and rain which lead to water spotting issues on "coated" cars. To wash the cars I use a foam cannon using an electric pressure washer using approx 4 oz of Meguiars Gold Class car shampoo in a 32oz bottle. You can use les, but that is how much I use. 2. After vehicle is dry I apply 303 protectant on all exterior rubber/plastics. I have used this product for 30 yrs and yet to have a moulding or plastic piece fade or crack on me. This product is a "preservative" not a sealant, and does not last long. You have to apply it after every wash. The good thing? If you get it on your glass or paint it wipes right off vs a sealant on the glass or paint does not come off easy. I DO NOT put "coatings" on soft rubber bits. They will harden and crack over time. Not going to argue about this because I have seen it happen. Next I use DuraGloss 601 Bonding Agent and apply a thin coat over the entire vehicle painted areas, I apply this product by hand using a microfiber pad. You DO NOT WIPE THIS PRODUCT OFF. Leave it on. I then apply DuraGloss 105 over the entire painted parts of the vehicle. You can apply with a random orbital like in the DIY videos or a D/A or by hand. Once applied over the painted surfaces I then let it sit on the car for 30 minutes. I then take 2 clean microfiber towels (I use the ones from COSTCO) use the first towel to take off the initial haze of the 105, then the 2nd towel to just go over it one more time. I do this for the whole vehicle. I do this to my vehicles EVERY 3 MONTHS. For maintenance of the Duragloss there is a couple of things you can do that is cost effective. After each wash, you can use DuraGloss Aquawax and apply after each wash, or what I like to use just for cost reasons is Technicians Choice Graphene Detail spray. Both work very well and are not that expensive. By doing this, my paint looks great and after a thunderstorm and see the water spots? I wash the vehicle as soon as I can usually a couple days later on my next days off, there is zero etching. If I do see some by some fluke chance? I take a little bit of the 601 and rub it onto the area when clean, re apply 105 over that area and they are gone. No compounding, no polishing. That simple. The reason the DuraGloss is so well in this area is due to the type of product it is. Its a polyamino silicone. It is resistant to BOTH acids and alkalinity. The best part? The products don't cost much and actually work. Anyway, that is what I use, and have had very good luck vs the HOURS of prep and application of Si02 nano coatings on my vehicles just to have them fail when I need them the most. Yes nano coatings may actually make your car "easier" to clean, but when it comes to water spots they FAIL and it doesn't matter the brand I have used MANY. They all do the same thing. I am sure people are going to bash me and say stuff back, but you asked so I replied. This is what work sfo rme under the conditions I spoke about. Hope the info is helpful to you and your wallet. Good Luck👍

    I thought water spots only came from potable water and NOT from rain water. I was a little hesitant to believe that when I first heard it but have started to come around as I thought more about it. Just for clarification, will rain cause water spots/scaring? Thanks...Great PSA about skin absorption.

    Ivan what would be the best strongest pre soak foam for semis that are covered on crap bugs grease grime you name it. Can you please recommend a product? I'm guessing something on the more alkaline side?
    Thanks.

    Wouldn't it just be better to use the 8 year coating and then use a graphene wax like Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Flex Wax, so you get the benefits of graphene without having to remove and reapply ceramic coatings every 3 years? Also what happens if you just leave a coating on indefinitely, will it start to look lousy, or will it just lose most of its properties?

    • @diydetailofficial
      @diydetailofficial  Місяць тому +1

      To add water spot resistance, you can stack the 8 year with DIY Detail 3 year. Another option is to used DIY Detail Quick Beads every 3-4 months.
      If a coating is well maintained ( regular safe washing and occasional decontamination) will far exceed the years announced.
