    You are one of the few ppl that legitimately use your iPad as your main and full computer. I love listening to you as I also fall under the camp of “iPad is my only computer” camp. Keep up the videos! There are plenty of us out that that see the iPad the same way you do!

    I have a windows desktop for all my gaming, but I literally do EVERYTHING else on my ipad. And that included video and photo editing. It’s incredible. I feel no need to get a laptop. And even at home, unless I am gaming I choose my ipad over my desktop when I need to get things done.

    The software still limits very simple things on the iPad, (I have the iPad Air 5 btw) for example I was taking a simple driving course online to renew my discount insurance, the program had difficulty running on certain steps with the iPad but my MacBook and even my brothers $250 windows laptop ran it without any issues.

    A possible suggestion that will prevent having to constantly be switching devices is to setup a NAS with 10 gigabit eithernet+. Files supports network drives, so then youll be able to push and pull to both over the netwrok.

    I swapped my husband and I both to iPad Pro after the M1 chips bounced, and for both of us it has become our everyday machines. We do work, school, entertainment, just everything on them all the time and they have all but taken over our need to have a computer usage. It is at the point where I am going back to school, purchased an MBA to replace my aging intel MBP, but have used it very sparingly because the iPads methods are so ingrained in my workflow. Not to mention Stage Manager’s updates are just better and better.

It’s great because for work I have a company provided Thinkpad which I can easily switch between using the monitor for the laptop or for my iPad. you can bypass the external SSD with a Wifi Connected NAS. granted a HDD local NAS is slower, you can get somes with a SSD. with this no need to plug; un-plug. here the only limitation is how fast your wifi is and if you want to access it away from home is youer internet speed. I use a WD MyCloud, works wonders.

    🐬 Great video! I believe that we are getting close to the iPad beginning to take shape as a next generation device. I am willing to bet that 2024 is going to be big pivot toward that trend. iPad has been low key gaining momentum with the pro apps. Its just a matter of time. I personally use both iPad and Mac. I prefer my iPad, yet there are still a few items that keep my use case from getting to 100%.

    • @RionRobinson
      @RionRobinson 6 місяців тому +1

      @@duelibop file management to me to much better. You must disrupt the way you see file management, so it will take some time. The spreadsheets will be a challenge if you are heavy into macros and other more sophisticated spreadsheets. This speaks to the software being 90% there with this blaring 10% of challenge.
      Remember we are looking to shift decades of input modality. We have been used to tactile feedback. Now we are into Touch! And next AR. Lots to learn and unlearn.

Is all about removing the friction , one of the things that I started to play with lately is using Parallels Access on the iPad and connect to my Windows server at home and I can tell you that the part of running a full version of Excel is fixed with that. So I can now have a 100% Windows computer + Mac in a portable format.

    I agree for some people an iPad Pro will fully support their workflows, especially with regards to media content creation, but for me my M1 iPad Pro with never be a computer all the time its restricted to Apple's app store wall garden. It basically becomes an oversized iPhone, wasting the device' full performance potential. I hope more countries / trading blocs such as the EU, force Apple to allow side loading of apps on their iOS / iPad OS devices and put an end to Apple's restrictive practices. I am looking forward to replacing my iPad Pro in 2024 with a Microsoft Surface Pro or similar device equipped with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X Elite processor. This will finally give me a tablet computer that satisfies my workflow needs. Windows 11 arm may not be perfect, but having used daily for the past 12 months, it is a quantum leap improvement over iPad OS.

    I still use the iPad but I ditched the iPhone. The Apple tax plus the iPhone is $250 to $500 more than equivalent Android phone.
    Had to turn off messages and FaceTime on the iPad but it works. The iPad is a good replacement for the desktop for most users. Wait way too long but ordered a Logitech combo keyboard to enter customer data.
    Note I mostly use cloud based products but the iPad works for business.
    Will I buy another one or go back to the iPhone, who knows. The Surface Pro is real good but the thing is heavy!

    I have the iPad Pro 6 12.9 with the M2 chip and think this thing is more than powerful enough to be able to dual boot iOS/MacOS. In all honesty i’m not 100% sure why Apple hasn’t done something similar to Chrome and allowed the installation and usage of iOS applications on MacOS anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️

    If your iPad pro is only plugged into your monitor how do you keep it charged and how do you access the SSD?

    I would do this but I can't stand how a mouse or trackpad work on iPadOS. I don't like all the snapping it does, and there seems to be quite a bit of lag.

    Would I be able to do all the functions you did in this video with an IPad Air 4?

    • @DreOrozco
      @DreOrozco 7 місяців тому +1

      No because the Stage Manager feature and being able to connect an external monitor as a second monitor (vs. pure screen mirroring) is only available on iPad Airs with M1 chip or greater.
      Source: I used to have an iPad Air 4 and upgraded to M1 iPad Pro.

    A question I have is: what are the advantages of this setup? A base iPad Pro 12.9 is more expensive than a base MacBook Air M2. I understand iPads for artists and others who get a lot of utility from the Apple Pencil, and of course as an iPad owner myself I understand the utility as a companion device or for light web browsing, reading and entertainment. But you appear to be using this basically as a desktop computer. Why would you spend more money on an undoubtedly more limited setup? This is not an attack or anything I am just genuinely curious what you feel this setup gives you that the MacBook you mentioned does not.

      It's simple: he just decided to create his content on this topic. That's his thing. It's fine for creating content, albeit often repetitive content, but it's not fine for many regular users who aren't UA-camrs. Otherwise, it looks like creating obstacles for himself, which he then heroically solves. There are some people who enjoy it.

      I don't think there would be an advantage if you only used it as a desktop. But I'm pretty sure he uses it as a laptop and a tablet in other instances. Basically a way to have a single device that does it all.
