Besides awesome content, can I just comment on your production quality. You have some of the best produced videos on UA-cam. Amazing work!
Thank you very much Serge!
I agree with this comment, your videos are high quality.
That’s really really amazing! You just broadened my knowledge of ipad usage drastically, with such a high quantity and instructive content
Happy to help!
Thank you for this video. I rarely enjoy content on UA-cam, often mindlessly scrolling and fast-forwarding. But I didn't during this video, so thanks. I like the multiple camera shots and angles. It really shows that you know what you're doing.
I am so impressed with this video! Very in depth one, showing details and options… I subscribed after watching this. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the sub!
Love your content it is always look great and informative
Thanks for the information! It gave me somethings to think about when designing a new work desk around my iPad Pro.
This is hands down the BEST video on iPad this year. People don’t get the iPad, and I think you could show part of. Not only can it be a computer, but also a book, a notebook book, canvas. King of versatility and my favorite apple device!
It's cool, but ultimately it lacks the flexibility of a full desktop OS where you can install what you want on it and it works well with external displays. That's why I would love a device that could do everything the iPad could do AND everything the Mac could do. That would be the one device to rule them all.
@andrebelo6119 I agree with you 100%
Thats actually crazy. Its amazing. Native support for fullscreen monitor connection and ability to connect to external webcam is surreal. If only the same function available on ipad mini, that would be amazing.
That would be WILD 😝
I agree, but I still don‘t understand how you do that with the iPad Pro either. I just got the studio display, but I can‘t get the iPad to use the studio display‘s camera. Would a thunderbolt dock with various thunderbolt ports help?
@@CaroAbebejust plug it in and use extended monitor. Note it’s only available on M chip ipads
The shift key tip was worth the price of admission in its self. Cool new IOS 17 tips. I have the developer version on my iPad. I have not played around stage manager.
Great video, Iskren - brilliant idea to use the Caldigit!
Many thanks!
i just got a samsung tab9+ and im in love with how flexible it is cant wait to explore the possibilities of it
That keyboard sounds nice! 🫠
Great to see you feature the Surface Pro! I still use my Surface Pro 6 with my iPad Pro 3rd Gen as a second display using the duet display app.
You are a really underated chanel. Great production!
I appreciate that!
This has been a very thorough dive into what works or not, how to get around limits and a wishlist Apple would be smart to deliver on.
That 'shift key to add an app ' feature is fantastic
Awesome video! Can you tell me if you can just use the Smart Keyboard and trackpad to type and navigate? Thanks!
You can use command + w to completely close an app and then use command + h to make an app run in the background
great video! I am curious what cable or adapter cable do you use to connect these awesome speakers to your thunderbolt dock?
Very impressive setup! I liked it!
Thanks!
Love the reviews! Absolutely informative and very helpful. Thanks @ThisisE.
Glad it was helpful!
sir your video quality is really awsome
So nice of you
Thank you, i missed the control of screen location. Helped a lot. By the way…it is possible to use iPad with 2 big screens. Maybe more…I do not have hub with 2 HDMI and serial so I can not verify.
Thanks for your Video like always very inspiring! I wish I could do all of this also with the iPad Mini! But many of those functions are not supported 😒
Great video dude
I appreciate it
iPad App Library on dock is my go to for loading apps on the external display
My iPad Pro M1 12.9" is a fun companion to my M2 16" Macbook Max, but I've encountered some issues with iPad OS copy/paste, buggy apps, and missing features. While it serves as a second monitor, backup, and entertainment device, I see it more as a Pro accessory for my Macbook, rather than a fully Pro device on its own.
Not far from the truth, but I am pleasantly surprised by the progress with 17
@@ThisIsE Totally agree, it's come a long way with monitor support, multi-tasking and a lot more polish than even a year ago. I kind of like switching to my iPad, especially on easy work days - it's just fun! Thinking about taking just the iPad to Starbucks this weekend to work on a couple of projects. Thanks for getting back to me!
Your recommendations are really good. I love your setup and I will build one similar. I'm artist so I can use iPad as a canvas with the monitor for more editing.
I have been using my iPad as my computer for a week and a half. Connected to monitor, and Magic Keyboard. So far no complaints satisfy no complaints.
Bro,ipad pro 12.9 6th gen display totally broked by brother in law's hand.can i now use it as a desktop?just by turning it on without unlocking, can i use it by connecting to monitor & unlock after the monitor view?
Is anyone else think the production quality farking amazing ❤
Much appreciated
Great stuff. It’s been a few months, so I thought I would ask: have you figured out how to have sound on an external display (like a TV) while using a Blue Yeti for microphone input? I have an M1 iPad Pro 5th gen, and a uGreen 9 in 1 hub. Thoughts or ideas? Thank you
What a nice desk set up. I am jealous🎉❤
Thank you
Great video man!. Have you tried the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra lineup? Cheers!
I hope Apple watches this video on repeat until WWDC 2024/iPadOS 18... great great video. An iPad Pro M4 without real desktop support is mindblowingly overkill... but with desktop support could be an INCREDIBLE portable powerhouse...
I will be doing a follow up video considering the new devices
I’ve been using my 2020 iPad Pro as my main computer since the day it released. Absolutely love the experience; however, after over 3 years of trying to force it to act as a computer (running a virtual machine to do my architectural work) I finally bought a 14in MacBook Pro. My first time with a Mac computer, but so far the experience has been fantastic. I still love my iPad, but unfortunately had to accept that Apple just doesn’t want it to be able to completely live in a world of its own.
I am waiting for a 14” MBP
I can't really understand how anyone can meaningfully work with just an iPad Pro (other than office / PowerPoint or light programming or multimedia editing) or, if it's attached to a big screen, how do you manage to work limited by the iPadOS / tablet apps. The hardware is there, but the software doesn't.
I even have a Mac Mini M1 and as a desktop computer, other than for multimedia editing or office, it's a pain in the @$$. To buy a Mac and have to work with VMs, it's a waste of money. Since then I invested on a Surface Pro 8 and at home, I attach it to a strong eGPU (connected to a big 4K monitor). That works very well, both for dual window and 3D apps.
@@ricarmig depends what all you need to get done I guess. I like the iPad Pro because it’s a comfortable device to use casually when work is done and seamlessly works with my phone.
But yeah, if you need specific software it can be annoying. For presentation work I like it a lot; between Adobe apps, procreate and Sketchup I can do what I would on a normal computer but with the benefit of sketching on the screen.
The reality for me is that no surface model spec is powerful enough to natively do what I need anyway, so I went with doing all of my personal computing and work that can be done on a light snappy iPad Pro, and dock it to run windows when I needed that.
Not a perfect solution, but use any device 8-10 hours a day for 3 years and you’ll have a pretty good rhythm down lol
@@ricarmigit is because you’ve failed to understand that different people may have different needs and requirements.
@@ricarmig you quite literally released a solid chunk of what people use a computer for, when you listed what people can do on the ipad 🤣
Helpful tutorial; sorta hangin' out 4 the rumoured 16" iPad "Ultra" as way 2 bypass using external monitor (am a non-professional consumer). Surface pro was suggested 2 me but iPad's security a bit betta i feel.
hey man nice content. only i have a question i have an ipad pro 12.9 2020 4th gen i have black bars on the sides so i read that only m2 chip has support for external monitor do you have any good alternative apps tips? greetz
FYI you can chose the audio output. You do It in the same way you select an airplay device.
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
You can use Command + tab amd then Q
Thanks for the Stage Mgr., info. I have an older monitor Dynex brand actually. I connect my M1 iPad Pro to the Dynex but nothing happens on the Dynex monitor. I am using a Zagg keyboard case for my M1 iPad Pro so I have the keyboard. I am seeing the little blue icon on the top right of my M1 iPad Pro so it is recognizing the plugin to the external monitor. I do have a Bluetooth mouse -would it need to be paired with the Dynex monitor for my setup to work? Many thanks in advance for any tips you can offer.
Can you put the templates you use on your notion apps such as notes etc to download on your website?
I wonder what the experience will be like with ipad air. The pro has thanderbolt connection that can explain the ability to handle so much peripheral
One limitation I had with ios 16 was that whenever I was plugged into HDMI, the speakers would come out of my TV and not my edifier speakers.
I updated to iOS 17 and thank goodness it fixed that issue
You can change where your audio goes to in the AirPlay icon on the CC.
Awesome people, let me know if you have any questions about iPadOS 17 👇
I'm a long user of iPad (Air and Mini) but did you recommend purchsing the mini 6 model since I intend to use it as artist eventually or iPad Pro for that purpose. BTW, love your videos and production quality behint them.
U can click cmd+W to quite an app
is imovie/FCP/DVR able to keep rendering in the background OR the other display while I can doing other tasks on the other?
Is the webcam issue with external monitor for MS Teams solved with iOS 17? Or is the iPad internal webcam image still wrong oriented by 90 degrees When working with an external monitor and 3rd party meeting tools like ms teams or zoom?
HI, curious if you know . . . will iPad pro 3rd generation presen full screen now with stage manager? Thanks.
Which Cable are you using to connect the Ipad?
I have ipad 9th generation ( 64gb,10.2 inch screen) with os 17. Can i donthe same ( shown in video) !!? If yes tgen what component/ device i need to procure??
which Programm you use for the Comic wallpaper?
Love the content.
Also letting you know, cmd+w quits apps 😉
Thanks, tried it out, and it does help. Only I found it closes windows. For instance, I have several tabs open in Safari, cmd+w won‘t quit Safari, just close the tabs one by one 😅. In apps without multiple tabs, however, it does close the app ;-)
Is the external usb-mic, xlr or usb-c mic will be detected when hooked up to a dock(caldigit or any other) to Ipad?
So when you have it running a second monitor, can the apps go fullscreen on the second display?
Does the same thing work on galaxy tab s9 ultra? Like plug and play even the mouse? (Basically same as your ipad)
Hi ThisIsE,
how can i use the insta360 link webcam with the ipad pro 12.9 4th generation, is it possible? It would help me a lot, because you are the first person, where i saw this nice setup?
Just wanted to know if its possible to use web cam on ipad 2020 and also if its possible to use Elgato cam link on ipad
why logitech mouse and keyboard lags in ipad i have noticed in multiple apps like skipping forward youtube video scrolling safari webpage etc
do i unplug my monitor😊
What you don’t have the app library on your monitor?? I do on ipadOS 16
You can also show the App Library on your dock by turning it on in the “Homescreen and Multitasking” menu.
True, but I lose an icon, plus it will also open it on the small screen even if I click it from the monitor
I’m trying to figure out whether I can use a 4k 144hz gaming monitor with my iPad Pro? I don’t want to be stuck with a monitor that kicks down to 60hz even @ 4k.
I want the monitor to run @ 4k and at least 120hz
Great video! Question: what is the iPad stand you have clipped to the front of your desk? That is such a space saver! Much thanks!
It's by Balolo. I have a discount in the description
How do you zoom in out on the ipad with mouse and keyboard
I'm excited by iPadOS 17, but I'm a little sad that Teams is behind the curve on external camera support. Hopefully they will be ready by release. :)
I'm trying to get an ipad air and use it for college. Quizzes, homework, tests and writing documents. I hardly play with a computer and hardly work with it anymore so i'm thinking this would be awesome since it doesn't have fans so there is no noise comming out of it.
Dude,
1. need your pc setup/ room tour video with how yiu did cable management ( i struggle with) as i cant make hole on the table and cant put all cables from back as table is fixed to a wall !!
2. How do you switch between ipad and surface pro by congecting only one wire? How??
Hey ! I was wondering what you’re using to hold your iPad in this video, it looks amazing :)
It should be in the description with a discount. It's a shelf by Balolo
does it work with ipad 7th gen ?
how how how... how u guys keep this much clean desk.. i want to check how much efforts u keep in live :D good work bro.. a big fan from INDIA... subscribed long back
It’s actually very simple. I can’t focus and start my day if my desk is a mess so every time I go to the studio I begin the day with a quick tidy up
I‘m currently on iPad OS public beta 17.6. Does anyone know what it would take to get the iPad to choose the Studio Display‘s camera instead of the iPad camera? Or any external camera? A thunderbolt dock?
do you know why keyboard doesn’t type text on my iPad when connecting to my monitor? I can use the keyboard to switch apps, go home, change volume just won’t input text I have to show keyboard and use the touch screen
Will this work with ultrawide monitors?
How does the insta 360 link work with the ipad.
I chocked on my drink during the shake to undo part haha
Hahahha
So will my iPad Air 4 gen work with this?
Try cmd+w to quit app
I have April 2020 12.9" Ipad Pro running ipad os 17.3.1. , i tried connecting to an external monitor, but i can't move windows from the ipad to the monitor and then open a different window in the ipad pro. Is it only the later Ipad Pro's that have that feature in stage manager ??
How to set tabs in Scribner on I pad?
Can you tell me where I can order the case
hello E! im just wondering if i could use it with just the monitor, and kind of leave the pad alone without locking it. for example as we can do with the mac studio, or even a macbook.
Sure, you can do that. But remember, the iPad should stay on and not turn off when you close it with a keyboard or smart cover.
@@ThisIsE Thank you! lots of love
nice studio
Thanks 😊
HI! What's the accessory you used to hook the ipad on your desk?
It’s by Balolo. I have a discount link in the description
I have been using my Samsung Galaxy device dex feature, looks like it's better than iPad
Hey bro! Just a quick question: what do you use to hold your iPad elevated like this on you desk shelf?
I use a Balolo shelf. I have a link with a discount in the description if you want to check it out
I préfère the Magic Mouse it is more efficient. You can slide verticalky and horizontaly, close window with slide, etc…
please do a similar video about the surface pro
Will do
@@ThisIsE It will be very interesting!
Cmd + Q is indeed not there but the next best thing is: cmd + tab to the app you want to close and then press Q.
I strongly recommend Lunar Pro if you are using external displays. I wonder does it also work with iPad?
P.S. Поздрави за висококачественото съдържание!
Never tried it. Thanks for the kind words
Nice, just grabbed the g502x for my setup. I no longer want to reach for my Elite Controller now in sweaty games 😭(Your uh sniper button cover isn't all the way on btw)
I use the other button
What are you using to hold your ipad that is attached to your desk ? i need that in my life
It’s by Balolo. I have a discount link in the description
I have an iPad air M1 and when I plug it into the monitor with the HDMI and put it in extended screen mode, I see vertical lines that flash like noise, sometimes louder and other times less. I have tried the same HDMI adapter and the same cable on a Macbook pro M1 and the same thing does not happen. I don't know if the same thing has happened to anyone else.
CMD + W will close OUT of an app.. Not necessarily killing the process but the intended functionality is there. You can also CMD + TAB and then while holding CMD you can CMD + Q to kill those processes from your CMD + TAB view.
Isn’t it CMD + H to exit an app the same way you would by swiping up?
@@lamarcabriannope, CMD + H and Globe + H is the shortcut for going to the home screen, but for CMD + W is the shortcut to close the app.
@@ChrisRockJr1 I just meant going to the home screen actually
is ipad shd be turned on dispay every time you use desktop????????
apple must only fix the audio issue with auto select the dock audio and a better cursor
My biggest issue as an M2 iPad Pro user who does use stage manager is information density; Everything feels blown up even on the external display, compared to a PC especially, everything is just “big”
With an ultrawide hooked up to PC you feel like you have tons of space to play with, with my iPad connected to the same display it feels like I can get a couple of apps next to each other, adding more starts to feel cramped….It may be better on Apple displays?
Overall I’m pleased with the iPadOS 17 improvements to Stage Manager, I still don’t think it makes it any more of a PC replacement than DeX makes a Samsung Tab a replacement, even if I do prefer Stage Manager over DeX significantly.
If Microsoft would support full external display resolutions in full screen, such as 3440x1440 in their Remote Desktop (or upcoming Windows 365) app then I would use Stage Manager a ton more.
The smallest scaling is optimal, I think
So wait can the iPad connect to a external monitor now because Apple go rid of that feature on ipad OS 17 ? I mean I does not work for me ???
Ipad is impressive nowadays, but I still doubt about the battery durability especially for replacing main device such as laptop/PC. I had one to replace my laptop and pen display (as an artist) then the battery could not stay long with plugged in cable, the battery expanded and pushed the screen. I think it was because I used the Ipad for hours everyday and kept using it even when I charge it. That was the complicated troubles started. The screen got some white spots, big leaked light in the center of the screen, and darker spots in some parts of the screen. I think the main issue of Ipad is the battery. Now, my Ipad is completely dead just months ago.
yeah, I have the same concern. Pushing to an external monitor is energy-consuming, it even heats up laptops. Surface Pros become noticeably hot when connected to an external monitor, even though the modern ones all have fans. I suspect as thin devices as iPads are it is harder to dissipate extra heat generated when connected. Thus I wouldn't use iPads like this for long periods of time, they are just not designed for that. Yes, MBA M1/M2 do not have fans either but they still are much larger devices with proper heat sinks and plenty of possibility for dissipation.
yeah I wish you could change what ouputs and inputs to use instead of eliminating other options to use one
Basic stuff…right?
