- NOTE: There is no hate directed at Jan in this video. I am talking about her edit on the show and how she was portrayed, which in no way is relevent to her as a person outside of the show. Any hate comments towards Jan will be deleted.
Never before on Drag Race has a queen fallen from grace so quickly as Jan Sport did from her story on Season 12 to All Stars 6. When she was brought back for All Stars, fans were excited to see her back, but now with her elimination, a lot of fans were happy to see her go.
In one of the most blatant examples of how editing can impact the perception of a queen, I'm going to break down Jan's story arc on Drag Race, and how her fall from grace was potentially orchestrated by producers.

I'm kinda glad she got eliminated. The show was so mean to her, when Ru laughed at her crying and all the messy placements and contradicting critiques were messed up.

I agree! I enjoy seeing Jan outside the show because she seems to enjoy herself and isn’t second guessing herself. She is extremely talented and I hope she is proud of everything she’s achieved so far.
I mean yeah, Ru sucks, but that laughing at her crying thing was so obviously edited out from a response to something different during that conversation. The show is not showing us a linear series of events, it’s just bits of the most pertinent information, whatever was actually said to her when she started crying probably just wasn’t interesting enough.
Honestly the way they edited Jan this season makes me sooo fuckin worried for other queens that were considered robbed on their og season i.e. a Denali going to all-stars. Like I hope the "used to be fanfave turned bitter betty” doesn't become an editing trope for all-stars 💀
Denali for me risks A LOT, considering that they kinda Tried to give her a villan-esque edit on s13 but they didnt attempt to it thanks to her being ICONIC
@@robertolore this is genuine confusion how was Denali in any way given a villain edit she was one the nicest people on the entire cast I can't even think of her coming for other queens at all
It already happened with Latrice in AS4, editing her from lovable Miss C to a bitter older queen
@@classicallycommie6266 in fact for me she is no way a villain material, but they Tried to underline their "Shady" moments especially in the Beginning (lala's entrance look comment, her "rivarly" against rosè in the first episode). She was Smart enough to not being trapped in a "negative mood", otherwise i think the producers could have played with her. With that said, im a huge Denali's fan and i hope she gets the rudemption She deserved on AS!
Honestly I feel the same way... Jan and Denali have two very different personalities though, so I'm hopeful that Denali could avoid a bad edit. Jan has shown to be upset when she doesn't get what she thinks she deserves (the facecrack and multiple moments in AS6), while Denali was very humble through S13 while still being competitive: when she didn't win challenges or when she placed safe, she was like "I wanna do more, I wanna impress the judges", she never said that she DESERVED the win or the top placement over somebody else. Her personality is the typical competitive but respectful attitude of someone who has practiced sports for years, so she wants to win and wants to do the best she can, respecting other people's success and knowing that it's not their fault and that she must push further when things don't go her way. I hope that in a future All Stars season she still is edited this way because it comes accross positively. Eureka is getting this kind of edit this season: Eureka is constantly in the top, she hasn't won a challenge and this can be frustrating, but she ALWAYS cheers genuinely for the other queens when they win because she doesn't feel entitled and recognizes the talent of her contenders for the crown

Kim can’t come back to all stars because since AS2 the format has been lip syncing is what you do when you are in the top. Kim Chi is probably one of the worst lip syncer’s to go on the show. She’s so talented at makeup, but her lip syncing is bad, it’s why she was saved from the bottom in season 8 a few times. Kim is an icon, but she is not made for All Stars

Just because someone is the Top All Star of the week it doesn't mean they need to lipsync the house down to grab the money - they already have the win. If Kim was on All Stars, she would struggle with performance based challenges, but if she won, let's say, a ball, and was about to lipsync against whoever was the Assassin, honestly, 10k would not be much for her, I bet she would do something ridiculous/funny to throw away while also not being the one to be blamed for whoever goes home that week.

The biggest problems of Jan are *maturity & modesty/being humble* that’s why (most) people don’t like her/are very much annoyed by her behaviour. I think the issue with Jan, is that her drag persona, is actually who she is in real life. So it’s hard to differentiate between the drag characters and her real self.

Here is the thing. It's not about having an exaggerated persona; that probably is one of the key elements of drag after all. It is more about not knowing how to showcase yourself. Show, not tell. Jan is very talented. But she also feels the need to tell us she is very talented. She invents any number of catch phrases that are centered around herself and then inserts them without proper reasoning. Being the one that keeps hitting the Shade button doesn't make you involved in the discussion, it makes you a PA in a fancy dress. Entering Untucked and instead of interacting with the queens, looking at the camera and calling it "Jantucked" feels like you are trying to get attention artificially in a situation engineered for people to get it organically by being part of the conversation.
These are all issues that Jan has probably only because of her youth. If she was in AS7 or 8 would have been much better for her but could she be sure she'd get the call? Queens that go on AS immediately after their season seems best for queens who had more to show but didn't get to it because of their own issues (Katya, Monique) rather than because of external issues (Ginger, Jan)

Butttt she hadn’t exactly followed the requirements for the challenge, and don’t get me wrong I lovee Jan. I just don’t think that Jan could take it as far as the other queens, I don’t know against Pandora but my biggest factor was the fact that she did not do the challenge correctly and she kind of fought the critiques.

It’s not healthy for her and it’s pretty cruel actually. The whole experience has been cruel to Jan and though she can be annoying I feel a lot of sympathy for her because this season has been a terrible experience for her I think, when in reality she had a pretty good showing, especially if you think back to the earlier episodes

Though I am willing to wonder and think about the possibility that Alexis could have just as well pulled out Jan’s lipstick first and we would’ve seen that reaction from Pandora instead, it probably isn’t likely but it could still be a possibility on Alexis’ side.

Poor Jan. She must have been so happy leaving All Stars, having made it farther than her original season and even winning the Rusical this time aeound, her first challenge win. I feel so bad for her. I wasn't a huge Jan stan on Season 12, but watching them beat her down over the course of the season just made me so sad to watch. I hope she took to heart what Trinity said about not letting anyone bring her down from 110%. The judges need to stop pushing queens to trauma dump, that's my biggest takeaway.
Honestly the hate was getting to me much to me as a huge fan and I just wanted her to leave for it to be over, so its a relief I guess

This whole thing reminds me of what Miz Cracker said about the evil twin episode; basically her “evil twin” was saying all the things she said when she was feeling down on herself, and the judges thought ‘no that’s not how you feel depressed’

Even her elimination in all stars was so unfair to her. Alexis pulled out the lipstick and said “Pandora” so in those moments, Jan thought she was staying and Pandora was leaving. Then of course the producers need to torture Jan so they have Alexis wait a little bit before she reveals she also has Jans lipstick which means it’s a tie (she could have shown both lipsticks together to not give Jan false hope). So naturally Jan was probably caught off guard and was probably thinking “are we both going home?” Then Ru puts it in TKB’s hands, and she chose Jan which means Pandora gets to stay and really Jan is the one leaving. Like the emotional roller coaster the forced her onto was rude and completely unnecessary. They dangled it in front of her that she was going to get at least another week to compete and then snatched it away for the “drama” Production is so mean to some of the cast

@@plzgege but I feel like they’ve never instilled that much hope in a queen and dashed away so quickly when it wasn’t necessary in my honest opinion. like there is a line that can be crossed with reality tv and with this elimination, the acting and lying and stunts, the hope given to Jan, then switching it around and pulling the rug out from under her, it’s not the same as being a fan favorite getting voted off, it was purposefully produced and Alexis was specifically told to do that regardless of what it would do to Jans feelings when it would have made more sense for Alexis to say “the queens have voted, and they’ve decided that the queen that should go home is.. both of them. It was a tie” like that would have gooped the audience enough being like “wait what happens in a tie do they both go home?” They didn’t need the extra drama at Jans emotional expense. And I know she’s a big girl and is over it and all that for me it’s just about the disrespect they showed her

Absolutely. Being autistic and trying to have a friend group (or friends in general) is like the PEAK of this experience. People will bother, harass, complain, talk shit about the completely harmless ways you actually act and things you do naturally but THEN just switch their complaints around to say you're fake if you try to appease them by changing those things or trying your best to compensate. Like okay so you're going to be a bitch if I continue as I am but you're ALSO going to be a pain in the ass about it if I try to change it, okay. It happened to me in highschool because I had a couple friends who would always act like something was wrong with me and ask questions if I didn't 110% return their energy on the way they greeted me. If they were visibly and audibly excited, I had to match that even if it was unnatural to me because otherwise I'd get bombarded with "what's wrong with you? are you upset or something? not happy to see me today?" and not in a particularly empathetic tone, either. Even if I was positive in my greeting, if it didn't match their level it always had to be pointed out. So naturally the second they walked away and went about their business, the mask would slip off and I'd go back to my normal mannerisms. But anyone around me at the time who'd been walking with me and saw it would tease me about being two faced. When ironically, I was the LEAST two faced out of anyone in that group when it came to any significant matters or friendship "drama". The only reason I needed to do any of that is because everyone else was refusing to understand even when I'd made it a point to remind all of them, that just because I'm not bouncing around like the human version of a puppy dosen't mean I'm unhappy to see you. A lot of people who tell others to just be themselves and things will be okay have honestly just never considered that they fit relatively inside the expectations and status quo, even people who are outside of the normal majority groups and would regularly consider themselves as a bit of an outsider or belonging to a more unique group. It is necessary to have authenticity in order to attract people who will like you for who you are because they do exist, but I'm not going to sit here and lie to people by saying that will come swiftly and easily if they just be themselves. Even people who THINK they're accepting carelessly ostracize and criticize those of us who are more different than they are, or different in another way. It's like if the ugly duckling came across another group of ducklings that didn't fit in but then even they don't understand him and don't even really try, it's really lame.

Lowkey idts, Jan always had the "delusional" streak in her. We saw that from Season 12, but Denali always seems like a very composed queen. Like even in times she was disadvantaged (lip syncing in in ice skates or the chandelier dress thing) she doesn't seem delusional. But you know, producers have all the power so who knows.
Soft disagree, Jan struggled with branding and having a discernible voice in her drag. Denali has a much more well defined brand and artistry. She isn’t going to get lost in a group of highly branded and established queens like Jan was.

I love Jan so much and I'm so sad about how she was edited this season. As someone who is high energy and has trouble turning that down, the constant telling her she's fake made me so sad. To me, she's very relatable and I look up to her a lot.

I like jan, I never thought she was fake she seemed very genuine and to love her craft like seriously the drag Rachel berry, training since birth to be successful at what she loves! She came off more passionate then delusional to me but honestly that last challenge on all stars she truly misunderstood the assignment
Jan also mentioned in "Whatcha packin?" that she was advised to rap, and regrets not singing like she normally would. They had it in for Jan. I agree, my friends and I have said for a few weeks now we wished Jan had waited to return so she could mature more as a person and a drag queen.
just because she came back early (which tons of queens have done in the past, hello monét), it still doesn't warranty the kind of treatment she received from production and the fandom. They could've just let us enjoy her extra-ness on tv. I feel like no one's gonna say yes to all stars right after their season anymore seeing how Jan's run went.

For me, it’s hard to think that that is Jan’s actual personality. No one is that 100% all the time. She seemed to be playing it up for the cameras which is why She’s getting hate. For me, I realize that the producers will make an episode to get us to have a certain opinion on a queen. Sad! We will never know what Jan really feels.
I do think that she's being herself, but it's just a highly exaggerated version of herself, which for me is different from having a weird drag character like Laganja's case

Jan also committed the cardinal sin of RPDR - being up for elimination against someone people like better, and staying over them. If she’d been eliminated two episodes ago instead of Scarlet, who had a “robbed overlooked cinnamon bun gone too soon” storyline of her own, I HIGHLY doubt she’d be receiving nearly as much hate.
We’ve seen it happen time and time again. People get mad that their favorite went home and they want someone to project their anger onto. Jan has had a “delusional” edit and has outlasted arguably stronger competitors, so she’s an easy target.

I think another thing that didn’t help Jan with the producers is the fact that they didn’t get other season 12 queens like Gigi, Crystal & Heidi back on before Jan . It just seemed like they were never really interested in Jan
I'm pretty sure Gigi and Heidi were asked, but declined. Jan should have done the same thing, it was too soon for her, especially since the season 12 queens didn't really got to shine because of covid

I still love and support Jan and will continue to do so in the future, being a people pleaser and being considered unlikeable for it is too relatable to me.
I’m so sick of fans holding zero accountability for themselves. It’s a show designed for entertainment. Everything is a show first and foremost, and it is completely on you if you draw any conclusions about the content of their character as people from what you’ve seen in front of cameras. You can blame production pulling the strings, or the queens for saying what they said, but honestly I have no time for anyone who sends hate to people just doing their best, whether they try to backtrack or not.

You need to do an episode about all the other queens who were raked through the coals in edit. Utica is a victim that had it far worse in the edit and no one cared. It’s even worse for plus size queens and queens of color. We all need to stop, take a breath, and examine the edit and not take this all at face value.

Utica got a terrible edit, but honestly, it made her one of the breakout stars of the season. Barely ANYONE was doing anything that season since most of them were very focused on themselves, but Utica was driving everyone mad and just being insane which made her interesting to watch.
I feel like they're really putting a lot of shady moments for queens of color; I've been trying to be more self aware of when I think "ooh she's such a b", in order to pay attention to who it is, and try to see through the editor's cut.p

Poor Jan. Honestly they bullying and humiliate her. She's amazing artist and deserves better 💜. I feel so bad for her.
She got her "robbed" superpower when she lost to Gigi and then lost it when she got favoured like Gigi to win the Rusical. So in this case she became the Gigi of AS6, lost the "robbed" power and fans turned on her. Also the show is pushing this nerative of her 110% only being a character that Jan puts on to please people which is making fans feel like she's fake. And some people just don't like people who are always 100%.

@@marscast1679 Yes, that wasn't the win I was refering to. It was the Rusical and the Rumix whach never had a winner but suddenly it gets one, and next season there isn't a winner again. Also she did good in the ball but her final look wasn't what judges were asking for, she made a garment and ploped few balls on it while the challange was to make most of the look out of balls.
Have Queens or color gotten a lot more hate? Absolutely.
Does that make it any less intense or invalidate Jan’s emotions? No. Both thoughts can be held at the same time.
We can talk about the production riggorama and how it effects different Queens while simultaneously acknowledging it’s the Queens of color who are usually done the **most** dirty by production.
I mean, yes but why do you need to bring it up that some queens of colour have gotten worse when this episode is about Jan specifically?
Also I don't know where the argument that the production systematically disadvantages Black queens comes from given that out of the main series 8 of the 13 winners have been queens of colour, and of those 6 were Black. And the show is created and run by a Black Queen? And then from All Stars 2 out of 6 of the winners have been Black too and likely the winner of season 6 will be as well.
I'm not saying that the FANDOM doesn't have a big racist element that likes white queens more on average, but the producers don't seem to be specifically trying to systematically disadvantage Black queens as a whole. Rather they seem to specifically choose individuals to be villains like Vixen or Jan or Phi Phi or Silky etc. But for every queen of colour made a villain we have others that become fan favourites (Shangela, Manila, Jujubee etc) and those that win.

I think Bob was right when she said that this was a systematic attempt to break down her psyche. Hoping that people don't send anymore hate towards her or the other queens because of this.
im not gonna lie-i am worried for jan’s mental health after all this. i mean brita had to leave the internet because of her edit in season 12. sometimes, the editors take situations WAY too far and can seriously ruin careers/lifes. like silky was basically ignored after her season. DONT SEND HATE TO ANY QUEEN EVER. PERIODT.

last year i went to Jan’s solo show and holy shit. not only is she really talented and funny, but she seems like such a sweetheart. after the show during the meet and greet, there was an older gentleman in a wheelchair (i think he might have been p sick i’m not sure) who wanted to meet her, and she was so touched she started crying and got down off the stage where the photo op was to go take pictures with him. she’s not one of my fave Ru girls ever, but that night really reminded me how much someone’s TV persona can drastically differ from their real self. it helps to actually see the queens in their true element than simply judge them off the show.
I still love Jan, the stuff is entertaining, but damn its a SHOW, why give negativity to the queens when its the producers fault for editing a queen that way?
a sad and HUGE number of people in the fandom have hamster brain and the producers can completely annihilate a queens career for the sake of good tv.
I mean some people get mad at actors over how theirs characters act in a movie (like Tom Felton for Draco Malfoy) as if they were the character themselves. If some people are unable separate an actor from a character, it's not surprising they don't understand how editing either.

There’s always at least one queen who returns to All Stars from a regular season who either acts differently (so is less entertaining and not what people loved about them in the first place) or they’re given a different edit. I’m thinking Alaska, Milk, Monet, Miz Cracker etc. None of these queens did a bad job but at least for me I didn’t enjoy them as much as on their initial seasons.
Jan is a combination of acting a bit different but mostly being edited in a weird way with some other production things here and there. Her elimination felt the most like Jaremi aka Phi Phi’s in All Stars 2 which was of course extremely entertaining but in Jan’s case just a bit sad too. I was ready for her to go two weeks ago but she was easy for the producers to utilise so it’s a bit rubbish for her.

I’m a Jan stan and will always feel the Jantasy, I do believe that she’s always at 110% (because I’m always at 110%). I do think that the judges going from ‘we need to see more personality’ to ‘you’re showing too much’ in 2 weeks was uncomfortable and they need to accept that with some people it’s either/or and no in between (they’ve said other comments this season to other queens which weren’t right)

@@courajess I don't think there's a problem with being high energy, but I do agree with the judges on that critique. With high energy needs to come with levels, and with singing and performing (sometimes acting) she shows different levels while still being her 110% self, and she's amazing. However, in some challenges (especially Pink Table Talk), she really sometimes needs to just bring it down a bit if she wants to also show that big side of herself, because if she's flatlining at the same level the entire time it's going to bore and/or wear out the audience. I do think her edit here is pretty bad, though
The always at 110% Toxic Positivity feels very put on. I’m Jan is faking it per say, but there’s a desperation in everything she’s does that’s just tiring.
It’s a very hard critique to articulate, but I think the judges wanted to see different sides of Jan. We’ve all seen happy, 110%, theater, peppy and talented Jan but we haven’t seen much more than that. It does suck that they couldn’t articulate it clearly and Jan couldn’t figure that out which obviously got frustrating for her. Competition does that to you smh
Can I just say I love how compassionate Trinity is? I haven’t seen her season in ages but she didn’t stand out to me as so open and vulnerable. I love her on AS6. She was so nice to Pandora while dancing and as a choreographer that makes me so happy. So many people quit or think they can’t dance because of impatient or bad teachers. I loved Trinity’s take on helping Pandora come out of her box rather than try to change her personality. It’s okay to be quite and ‘meek’, embrace it! I love her support for her fellow queens. And her goodbye message to Jan was sweet 🤍 Idk, I never saw myself as a TKB ‘stan’ but I guess I am!

When I saw the promos, I was afraid this (going on AS ASAP) would be the end of her receiving love from the general fandom. This is why I think queens should wait at least a year to get back on AS. It's scary to see these queens loose their popularity in the blink of an eye. Send love to your fav queens, y'all 💜
I think she'll be fine though. People are in the heat of it now, but I think it will blow over with time. She is polarizing which isn't necessarily a bad thing, and she has a huge fanbase. Drag Race is a format that doesn't inspire a lot of queens' best work, but that has nothing to do with their talent or how successful they can be outside of the show.

I feel so bad for Jan. She was such a favorite coming of season 12 but how fast the viewers opinion changed is so wild to me. I think that she deserved to win the talent show because her's was to me by far the best one. And maybe controversial, but I think she did not Rob Trinity (btw I am #TeamTKB) because Trinity was better in the challenge because impersonating Beyonce is much harder but Jan did amazing and had a better runway, so she deserved to win

Jan was coming across as that kid in class who's desperate to answer the question- shooting their hand up in the air and doing everything to get noticed. Super hyped up and totally immersed in themselves. She misinterpreted many challenges by failing to grasp the purpose and appear so self obsessed almost to the level of "bunny boiler" on the scale. She returned to the show much too soon, not having enough time to develop as a performer and showing little personal growth or time for self reflection and maturity. She is just super keen to succeed and desperate for approval. Jan needs to learn to get some balance in her life and be more comfortable with her character and what her main aims are. The fandom can be cruel in their treatment of queens. It's a TV show, it's heavily edited and the audience is being manipulated. The girls have no control over how they are presented to the audience on each episode. Simple things like a side eye look or eye roll can be edited to appear to be a response to another queen but in fact was edited from some other part of the filming schedule. Jan is a fierce queen and she will go onto have a stellar career- can't wait to see what she turns out in 5 years from now. I would say the queen who got the roughest deal so far is Scarlet- Miss Scarlet really elevated her Drag turning out some amazing classy looks that deserved better from the judges. Ginger has been unfairly favoured over other Queens and poor Pandora is almost always on the cutting room floor. At the end of the day the show is one big infomercial for RuPaul and his brand. It's not a serious competition with strict rules and transparent judging criteria. No one ever mentions the role of queens agents in striking background deals for their clients and the shennanigings tht go on in TV Land...

@@MattyBlue Hi, many of the Queens have Agents who handle their business/bookings/deals etc- just like most performers. Similar to other reality shows from American Idol to Love Island & The Batchelor contestants are booked for the show- often a particular agent will be approached for suitable clients. The agent will arrange a deal and take a cut- including the public appearance work and promotional opportunities that might come their way- the agents have all the contacts and influence to open doors and make things happen. Example- Agents might well cut deals with Drag Race regarding the minimum length of episodes guaranteed for their client to appear in. Nothing is random on these shows. Idol and X Factor in the UK were used by record companies to help break new artists with "free" promotion...it worked for a while until the brand became toxic.

Often if you watch a "live" show like Dancing With The Stars (Strictly Come Dancing in the UK) or America/Britain's Got Talent some of the "live" performances were in fact recorded earlier and "punched" into the how- such as a performance by a big guest singing star- they may have pre recorded their spot days before as they are unable to appear live on the show due to conflict with a concert date in another city/country! Even contestants on Game Shows or callers to radio phone ins can be fake- arranged by the producers. Remember the paid actors applauding Trump when he came down the escalator in Trump Tower to announce his run in 2016? Question EVERYTHING!

Honestly, watching the show and my heart just broke for her over and over. She reminded me of how I felt when I was younger and struggling with my ADHD. Would not be surprised if she is neurodivergent and the producers abused that.

I think that Jan had many privileges, even being a gay man. Her grandma always supported her, she is a white handsome dude... And is great that she had love and did not face, as far as we know, hurtful exclusion and hate on her life. But most of us, LGBT people, do not have this story, and our scars kinda make us thicker, "realer", and not a bomb of joy and positivity. Jan vibe kinda reminds me Gigi's speech: "being queer is a privilege". I am not saying that Jan does not suffer homophobia or struggles with life, but she does not show anything that is deeper, and at least myself, being trans (travesti) on a very violent country for trans people (Brasil), i kinda relate more with Queens that show the struggles against life, that even have scars, but are brave and have conquered their fears. And i still think that most of us queer people relate to that. So Jan being part now of a cast that is not only talented, but with Queens that've dealed with racism, transphobia, HIVphobia, even the big girls who deals with beauty standards, well... It kinda shrunks her a little, because then her story becomes "less interesting", even for TV. And It hurts me to see the joy and the cruelty of people against her now. She does not deserve hate. She deserves only love! And maybe a chat with people who would Tell her all of this i wrote.

Yeah, I feel this was also a huge point. Many of the challenges this season were "Be true to yourself and show your vulnerability" so queens who actually went through huge hardships will obviously be able to share those. I don't think Jan experienced any of those, which is great and valid and doesn't make her worse as a drag queen. But it does kind of make her inable to compete in those challenges.
Like one person is talking about huge hardships they had to go through, what is Jan supposed to say in that situation? "Yeah, sucks for you, my life was awesome up til now"?
It's funny though, because the world is this horrible lil place, that she could've expressed this vulnerability about caring for other people. It seems like no struggles can exist in her world, even if they aren't for her. The table talk was a perfect example where she could've discussed ridiculous body standards, thrown in a joke or two, and express some meaningful connection to reality without having to previously experience any racism, sexism, homophobia etc. Just a sense of awareness of the world outside her Jan bubble. I don't get why people think she couldn't have done good in these challenges.

Maybe it's because I've watched way too much drag race in the last few weeks, but I noticed that a lot of the episodes are dedicated to the struggles of the queens. I don't dislike it, it just becomes monotonous and then I think "why aren't there more conversations about how drag brought joy to their lives and cute short stories about happy moments they experienced in the community?". I mean, my brother is a drag queen and he has rough stories, but also really uplifting ones that have changed the community in which we live. You do have moments in which you change hearts in your journey and I really want to hear those stories in depth.

RuPaul has been a drag queen for 40 years. She's seen so much back when gays and drag queens actually got discriminated against on a large scale. She's seen so. much. She didn't grow up on Twitter or Instagram likes.
I do believe that Ru wants her girls to grow and you don't grow with no criticisms. That's why the challenges are all varied and some are good at others while some are bad at others. There's a difference in how a seasoned queen like Bianca Del Rio can take things not going there way (i.e. not giving a flying f-- and just pushing through) and the way Jan handled things not going there way (i.e. not being able to keep the smiling facade as seen in the blank stares)

Whenever I hear the critics about her it's like "Do this and don't do this" and "Okay, you're doing this now so stop. Do this instead", which is why I can see Jan is a bit frustrated. I understand that she wants to be true to herself but she is in a competition which is why she has to stuck up to the judges in a certain degree.
I just wanna Say, and I'm truly saying it from the bottom of my heart, I really hope that in the time between the recording and broadcasting of All Stars 6 Jan has found herself an amazing therapist, we all need one, but her tv show display screams she needs it a Little bit more.

Of course they would benefit of a therapist but the thing here is that the hate they received is not because of they’re personalities (as I genuinely believe is Jan’s case) but because they are queens of color :( there’s little they, as individuals, can do to stop racism.

As someone who had similar criticism from my friends/loved ones, you have to learn to let all the stuff down and just be open and vulnerable and i don't think Jan really understands how to do that.
The pink table talk showed that because the moment she starts to be vulnerable, the walls went right back up. I think Jan just doesn't know how to control her peaks and valleys either she's all in and peppy or she isn't even in the fight.
The judges comments that Jan received were so bipolar throughout All-Stars, and the editing by the producers was not on her side.
One minute she's too energetic, too "fake." Next minute it's the perfect amount for two challenges in a row. Bottom two, challenge win, top two and then gone. She started receiving villain edits like not choosing Yara's lipstick even though the conversation Yara had with Jan vs the group were massively different. She started receiving the 'crybaby' edit because she rightfully couldn't decipher what the hell the judges even wanted from her.
Each episode seemed to systematically break her down, build her up and then tear her down again to destroy her psyche. Bob was right, and I loved Trinity K's comment at the end because she noticed it too. Be that 110%, be you. Never change in spite of this.
Jan's personality isn't 'fake' as Ru, the judges and the editing were trying to suggest. She is that bundle of energy outside of the show, that hyper positivity person that you see on screen. Some might find that abrasive, annoying etc and others may love it too. Being "too perfect," "too energetic" suits being the performer that Jan is and aspires to be, which is what I was shouting at the Ru when watching the show.
Jan doesn't want to be a stand-up comic, an actor, a model or a pageant queen. She wants to put on a show and perform at pride festivals and entertain. She is a performance artist, similar to her friend Rosé that Drag Race also didn't seem to understand.
Queens that are funny or can turn high fashion runway looks are viewed more favourably by the producers than other queens, and why so many 'fan favourite' queens don't tend to win the show but are more successful outside of it. Bianca is practically the only queen in recent memory where the producers and fans were on the same page. Jan, Bimini, Gigi, Katya, Shangela, Rosé, Gotmik. Trixie pre-All Stars, Bendela, Manilla, Tia Kofi etc?

On one hand I would totally buy that she tried to people-please during her lipstick choice because that shit can get you sent home, but either way she should’ve stood her ground and backed her decision so idk
I do think she returned to soon and yes some times if they are asked they can’t really say no or it could be their only chance. But they did her no favours with her edit but she had some amazing looks and been over looked in some of them and some queens who have told her to not be so fake have been on multiple times and had that experience, I love Eureka but she has been on s9 and 10 where she was very full on so it’s is all about learning. but sad to say at time jan was not portrayed the best and that’s down to her and the production. But any hate to any of the queens is not on

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I didn't enjoy Jan on this season because on challenges where the queens were encouraged to discuss serious topics, she'd still be all 'me me me' and 'jantasy' and it made me at least, pretty damn uncomfortable. Like in the pink table talk, her team's topic was body issues. Even if she doesn't have experience with it herself, she can still engage in the conversation by maybe stating her opinion on male beauty standards, beauty standards among drag queens, etc. and she didn't, all I remember of her performance on the challenge is her cringey 'that's the vulnerability the judges are looking for' line. And on this week's challenge where she was supposed to write uplifting lyrics to young LGBT people, she wrote a verse about herself which was basically a 'fuck you' to what the judges have been telling her for weeks. Again, even if her experience growing up as gay was not horrible, she can still take it seriously and write an uplifting message to young people. She didn't do that. She tries so hard to avoid being even the slightest bit political to the point where it does seem fake. Just express your opinion? Give us some personality other than 'I'm high energy'? Because I know a lot of high energy people who still have opinions to say and uplifting messages to give. That's why I don't like her though, to each their own.

For the role Jan played into making possibly one of the best seasons of drag race, I am immensely proud and pleased with her. My biggest fall with Jan was of course when Scarlet was eliminated, but I thought she proved why she stayed the very next week, I personally don’t think she deserved the bottom placement in the episode she was eliminated on AS6, and I really think she had more to offer - she just needs a little more time to see how she comes across on camera. I think she should be very proud of how well she did on this season. If I’m being completely honest, I wasn’t a huge Jan fan like everybody else after season 12, but I actually do like her more now. Love you so so much Jan :)
Jan always had major "pick me" energy and it rubs people the wrong way, I think. That and her uncanny ability to talk about herself and how great she is at every opportunity. Im all for confidence and self-love, but damn sis. Her edit this season was weird, but the fact that she can't see that sometimes she's not as great as she thinks she is is why people give her the side eye sometimes. She literally says "I have to think they thought I was a threat, that's why they wanted to get rid of me!" Girl they thought you were in the bottom 3 times and it was time to go, just like our girl A'keria. Do I think she deserves to get hated on because she had high self esteem and lived in a fantasy like Valentina? No. Not at all. But some of this Jan the Victim narrative just ain't for me dawg.
There's something she just doesn't have yet that makes Rosé different. I think she really should have taken more time after her season to go on All Stars, covid has meant there's been essentially no opportunities for experience and growth through shows etc., since her season ended.

I feel Jan just really wanted to be a people pleaser and continue her beloved status from s12. And in doing so she at times hyped up elements to get more screen time. She also tore other people down to feel better about the fact that she wasnt getting what she felt she deserved and also as a means to make herself feel better. It's the old "Im insecure so I'm gonna tear someone else down so I can focus on their bad qualities rather than my own issues" story.
Throughout this season Jan felt more like a caricature than an actual person. Her runways, whilst often stunning, had little personality in them and it felt like she was lost and hiding behind the theme rather than bringing the theme to her style.
I feel like she just wanted to be loved and get that outside validation from Ru in the way she did from fans after her season and lost herself and her charm in the process... at least that is how the edit made it all seem. She is a wonderful and young queen who probably should've had more time before going on all stars.
I think that Jan's fakeness is really a defense mechanism. That's probably why she doesn't understand why the other queens and the judges are telling her to tone it down. It's like when she has to perform she flips on the extra pep. It's just sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I don't think it's fake though. It's not intentional. I think she lacks the self-awareness to put it together. That doesn't make her delusional. It makes her just a normal person. And it doesn't mean that I'd spew hate at her. And being the disrespectful to Britney thing is just so stupid - do the "fans" not realize when this show was filmed?

One - she was against Jessica Wild. Of course Jan's pep was not as powerful compared to Jessica's energy. Most people's performances would have been underwhelming compared to Jessica's.. Two - the lip-sync editing was not favorable, as was said in this video. I'm not going to argue with Jan being annoying because honestly I feel the same sometimes. But I still do not think she is being fake. At least not on purpose. And we don't have to agree. That's fine.

I loved her and I get her being frustrated but the criticisms she got were SO valid and she wouldn’t listen. Def think they didn’t give her enough recognition for her highs, but her (spoiler) elimination was valid

None of the criticism given to Jan was actually anything you can work with.
I’m from the UK and while I’ve never actually watched Love Island, I’m aware that they introduced after care for their contestants after 2 former contestants (and the former host) sadly took their own lives. The after care included therapy sessions and contact after the show to check in with them.
Unless it’s just not public knowledge, drag race does not appear to offer similar after care and I feel like they are failing the contestants by setting them up to be trolled online and then just walking away.
Not gonna lie Jan kind of upset me this season. She comes in saying that TKB has a bad attitude even though she’s notorious for being a sore loser at the Madonna Challenge. She gives off entitled vibes and doesn’t accept when she’s in the bottom. She also said that comment about Trinity’s teeth but has no problem publicly calling out queens on social media for no reason.

Jan is my favorite queen of all-time and it’s because she’s so relatable to me, (weird right, producers?) her fashion choices and humor are sooo me. also, she doesn’t have a “story” which is okay! she can be positive and have high energy without a reason back it up because that’s who she is… that is what makes me see myself in her. thank you for making this video and uncovering the bs that Jan, many queens before her, and many queen after her did/ will fall victim to from the show. 💜 I’ll forever be living the Jantasy!!! no edit will change that💋

I knew Jan Sport well before she was on RPDR. It's so funny that people think of her as the Rachel Barry of Drag Race. She's way more edgy, dark, and creative of a queen than she is shown. Also, she is a really sweet, down to earth person. The hatred of Jan Sport pisses me off.
