I’ve got this exact same setup on my 2008 Tacoma and man have they settled quite a bit. Running my front 6112 600# springs on the 3rd notch which yielded 2-1/4” of lift, and the 5160’s in the rear paired with a 1.5” AAL. After 8 months and 6k miles, they’ve settled down about 1/4” front and rear. I do not have any added weight other than the 30 lb grille guard up front. They ride very well and handle nasty washboard roads quite nicely. Currently running 265/75/16 E rated KO2’s which do stiffen up the ride drastically. Going to swap out my wheels and get 265/70/17 C rated KO2’s within the next year or so.
The mickey thompson baja boss are available in a "B" load, I haver them on my f-150 in 265/75r16 and they are super smooth. Plan to get them for my tacoma as well. I think a truck rated tire is a bad idea on a tacoma, especially with the 3rd gen gimped engine. rough ride and gas at 13 mpg, I'm offroad in utah on lava rocks more than on asphault and have never popped a tire. but I'm also not boming down the trails. gotta drive smart.
I have a 1.5 inch lift all around on 265/75s w/ fox 2.0s. Still maintain a decent MPG, can still go offroad, feels very smooth, and I retained the factory rake so I can still tow stuff w/o squatting.
Do you have the added leaf in the rear ? And If so what brand and how is the ride quality? I want to do the same but I’ve heard it can feel really stiff if I have no weight in the back ?

Just put some 33s on my 2nd gen taco. 295/70/17 discovery STT pros MT and they ride great, slight rubbing on frame but trimmed back and looks and rides great
Very nice setup. I had the almost exact setup on my Taco but I had to let it go, It's extremely underpowered. I wish Toyota would put the small 4.7 V8 in it then it would be untouchable in the midsize segment.

Nice looking kit. I did 32” tires on my stock 2018 TRD off road recently, but I could see doing this type of kit down the road to fit a 33” and still keep things reasonable for a reliable DD.
Do you really need that heavy a shock for a daily driver Tacoma. I've heard that the 5100 series is more than adequate for a 265 70 r17 tire. This will avoid the basketball effect of the bigger tire and stabilize the ride with a 2 inch lift in the front and 1 inch in the rear. Diff and carrier drops are recommended to help medigate vibration and needle bearing noise. The best is just upgrading the shocks and staying with a 31 inch tire and perhaps a 1 inch leveling adjustment on the front shock to maintain your warranty and fuel economy.
Did you need to add the “taco lean” spacer to driver side to compensate the weight of the driver, battery and gas tank? I have read multiple post about people needing the spacer for that. Sometimes people set the driver side on #5 and the passenger side on #4. Just curious if you had to do this…. Thanks
@@jamesglass6001 I would assume the clip method, but you should never use stock springs and set the clips high, it compresses the springs and makes for a horrible ride, best to go with lift springs, but then if you go a notch up, will compress just the left spring, I have great ride with the 1/4” top plate spacer

Myself personally would never change the factory rake of a truck. The main reason is aerodynamics at highway speed. Wich is why it's there from the factory. I lifted my dakota 3" front and back with the front diff drop. Truck rides like stock 4x4 truck at any speed
Great video as always. Always watching your videos and they are great and informative. I have a 17 top pro and just put a Westcott lift on it. I have a mad vibration on it at 45 mph. Put clamshell bushing on it along with making sure shims are correct on leaf. Have you heard of anything like this or could you point me in a right direction. Thanks, Shane
Very similar amount of lift to what I have on my Ranger. I have an Eibach pro kit 3" up front, with 1.5" additional travel on the shocks in rear. The Ranger has a shackle mounted direct to frame over the top of the spring, like in older trucks, so I have a cheap 2" shackle lift in the rear (which means ~1" of actual lift) Those single springs on the Ranger don't need any more stiffening up, I tell ya. The stock rake on the Ranger is about 2.75 inches, so I'm actually still raked about 3/4 -1 inch. Both the Tacoma and Ranger trucks suffer from overly soft stock dampening, so I could feel the difference just putting on the rear shocks, no lift at all. No more 1978 Cadillac action. Those poor stock shocks were being bullied by that 3/4 inch thick chunk of steel Ford calls a "spring". I will eventually OME leaf pack it, but the rear end is significantly better settled after both the shocks and shackle lift lowering the effective spring rate a bit. Because of how raked it was stock, front clearance is now HILARIOUS. I can do an oil change without any aid (I'm 245lbs with 21" shoulders, so that's a neat trick). Which, weird quirk on the Ranger (and I assume Mustang) is that engine was never designed originally as a Longitudinal setup, so the oil filter can oly be accessed with the wheel turned full crak to the right, and you have to pop a bunch of xmas clips to open an access panel, just to spill a crap ton of oil all over the frame and tie rods. At least it uses the cheapest Ford filter you can buy, at just over $3.00. I really like the refreshed 2nd Gen Tacos. All of the mechanical reliability, without the rusting issues. I haven't been impressed with 3rd gen at all. You chose wisely my good sir. Hopefully 4th gen gets it right. It'll likely be a turbo 4 banger like the Ranger, which despite my complaints, is a good thing. Turbo 4 banger in a light truck hauls proverbial balls.
Do you need to drill into frame to mount bracket for reservoirs? Also, I noticed the passenger side reservoir is towards the front and driver side is towards the rear? Please answer this.
just bought a brand new 2023 sr5 4x4 tacoma. it has 245 75/r16 firestone destination le2 with the dark rim. i find the truck sitting lower than i like.used to the 1500 ram i traded in.i find i have to tilt my head to get into the tacoma also not crazy about the dark rims.would like to switch the rims to a crome color and put on tires that will raise the truck without having to install a lift kit ....any suggestions ?
what is out there for a 2010 Tacoma to add about 1.5" front and back using just shocks/struts? I don't want to add any spacers, blocks, or add a leaf. I just had the recall done on the leaf's as well which added 1 more extra leaf to the back with the new design.
On my 2nd Gen I’m running 5100s all 4 corners 885 OME coils set at first notch gives me about 3” in front and running OME medium load for leafs it was runs great on and off road pretty budget friendly . I’m curious to how much difference it would be upgrading to 6612 and 5160s 🤔
No, you do not "need" UCA's. But you will get a better alignment with SPC's or if you wheel a lot, then yes, you will need to upgrade to something like TC.

I have a gen 3 tacoma and I’m thinking about buying this life kit to go with it. I will soon be upgrading to 33” tires and I wanted to know if the Stage 2 option will still be a good upgrade for it. I don’t use my truck for off-roading at all I just want it for looks and better ride quality. Every time I tend to hit a bump with my stock suspension the whole truck shakes. I want to stop that.
Yes, Stage 2 is an upgrade from stock suspension. BUT. I would 100% recommend doing stage 3. It is much better for the price difference between stage 2 and stage 3.

Would you recommend this setup for a Lexus GX460 with 3rd row seating and drawer system in back? Also, a much heavier engine up front compared to the 4Runner? 6112 up front #650 spring, 5100 or 5160 rear shocks, ome 898 #440 spring? Will the bilstein rear shocks be long enough at 2”? Looking for 2.5-3” lift to clear 33” tires. Thanks for any input
Yeah I would recommend this kit for any vehicle. Bilstein 6112s and 5160s are amazing. I would do 3" in the back if you are going to do a drawer system

Would you recommend a aal or new leaf springs for a canopy? My canopy is on year round. I useably don’t load heavy when going camping or out of town. Just worried about lean/flatting leaf.
It might just be my OCD but why did he mount the rear shock reservoir on the frame “ in front “ of the tire on the passenger side and on the frame “ behind “ the tire on the drivers side , that would drive me nuts
With that amount of lift what type of numbers did you come out with when doing the alignment? I ask because I have the same amount of lift and my local toyota dealership can't seem to get my alignment dialed in.
What Ryan J said is correct. It comes about one inch higher in the rear on the Tacoma so more lift in the front is needed when doing a lift kit to level the truck

I went with a Fox 2.0 kit, front 2" and 1" spacer in the rear on my new 4runner. Running 275's with no rubbing. Good all around driver.
Can't go wrong with Fox, even the 2.0 kit is great! We would have done the same if it provided at least 2.5 inches in front

Great video man. Id probably go with 3 in the rear and 2 in the front so it sits level when I have a load or trailer.

It looked like you used the factory uca’s? Did you have to lengthen the break lines or is this just enough of a lift where that’s not necessary?
Always keep the factory rake. If you go up 2.5 in the front, go 2.5 in the back.

No, you do not. But it is nice to have for a better alignment and geometry of the truck.
I did the procomp on my 2016 sport 4x4 and on my 2020 Sr 4x4 no add a leaf just blocks and shocks. Half the price and better ride quality

This Bilstein kit allows you to have no lift to a 2.5 inch so you can achieve what you are looking for

I don’t think the 5100 has a long enough stroke for 3” lift, maxes out at 2.5” I believe, for 3” lift you also need cmc and lca
When dis-assembling your leaf pack to ADD A Leaf what is the torque down spec for the Nut on top of the Leaf Pack ?

I did that exact thing you mentioned. The 2nd gen feels much more refined compared to the 3rd.

The shocks are mounted opposite directions to begin with so that’s how they have to be mounted
There is a factory square hole that is meant for reservoir to attach

I would try a shop that align lifted Toyotas on a daily basis. Most dealerships don't know how to align them when you install things like UCAs.

I will never spend money to modify a vehicle I dislike (transmission/gearing)
Take a look and see if there is an OV Tuner in your area, it tremendously helps with the gear hunting issue

Stock truck will last twice as long as it lifted truck unless you're going to do heavy duty off-roading leave it stock

It really depends. We didn't install any spacers and we don't have any issues. Some, like Taylor had issues on his 01.

Sorry about that but no, unfortunately. We didn't feel the need. The front Bilstein maxes out at 2.5" and the AAL provides 1.5" with no load.
