A few days before our adopted dog's spay, we discovered she was pregnant. We raised the puppies from birth and worked with a rescue group to find them loving homes.

Bless you. This took me back to when I was 17. Some people down the street moved and left a beautiful German Shepard. I noticed she appeared weak. Lured her to my house and she was starving. Fed her and my Dad checked her out and said she is pregnant. Well my Mom stated she couldn't take her to that shelter in her condition. Long story short we kept her she had five babies. My Mom only gave 1 away cuz "no one would give them a good home" except that 1 family that were friends. She kept them all and doted on them. My Dad died 3 years later and I believe that having the dogs to care for got my Mom thru the hard times. They all lived out their lives happily and are resting together in a pet cemetery. Looking back they were so sweet and it was great to save that beautiful loyal mother and her babies. Glad you could help another dog in need!! Thank you for this great video!

The video doesn’t even tell you how the vet told her it lol. So how could you know they told her it in a rude way? And there’s already tons of dogs, even puppies, without homes, so the vet was just being smart about it.

" indicates that you think there were better ways of saying it, when in reality you have no idea how the vet brought it forward. You know the vet is just doing their job by bringing up suggestions? Not everyone wants 7 unexpected puppies, and it's much easier for the vet to suggest it than for the owner. Learn to see stuff from other perspectives than your own and stop sounding like an emotional 12-year old, please

It was mentioned that the vet talked about how many other dogs were already in need of homes. More dogs added to the mix would just exacerbate the issue. That being said, I would not have gone through with it either, as much as I do see the vet's point.
As a veterinary nurse, that first vet PISSED ME OFF! Then I read "We found a new vet" I almost yelled in happiness lmao

By allowing Gracie to have her pups, she will have properly developed her maternal instincts, which will translate into her being an excellent babysitter for your own child, and Riley will always be a protective big brother, what an great childhood to have!
It seems that you're in touch with all the adopters of the pups, hopefully at some point in the future you can get everyone together for a reunion.
Hershey was proof of that she allowed my nephew to "beat" her up he was still learning how to properly rub an animal at the time and she just sat there in his lap taking the blows without showing agression and never left his side if he went somewhere he's autistic and at 5 had the thinking of a 3 years old at that time now our other dogs wouldn't let him near them which Dobie nobody can get their hands on him but Marley he's skittish and doesn't like being around many ppl he doesn't know and he most definitely doesn't like my nephew but we just tell my nephew not to bother him I think my nephew chasing him when he was younger caused the problem of him barking at him so much but at least he doesn't growl my nephew is 9 years old now then when Hershey was killed we aren't sure what happened found her dead surrounded by blood we stupidly didn't check the wound or wounds Peanut took on the motherly instinct even though shes never been a momma before Hershey passed she always followed my nephew from a distance after Hershey passed she now follows him by his side though unlike Hershey who would take a beating all day for getting love Peanut when she gets tired of it she walks away

I had the same situation and you are absolutely correct except that there was still a bit of jealousy with the mother dog when I grew up.

I read ages ago that around half the population doesn't like dogs and some of them truly despise them. It creeped me out to learn this.
@@PKStefanini My sister doesn't like dogs, but I wouldn't say she doesn't dislike them either. There's a big difference between not liking and actively disliking. She'll still look after my parents labradoodle when they're away and does a good job. She cares about animal welfare. Growing up, we had dogs but she didn't show much interest. She's a people person.
I agree there's something worrying about people 'despising' an animal. But not liking animals isn't something to get worked up about. I worry about hostility.

@@Juliette-wk1bc it's quite often to have one puppy not survive in a litter. It's happened too many times with my dogs if they were pregnant. They often just don't have enough room inside or just weren't good enough to survive. The mum sometimes abandons some pups as well and those can eventually either die, but can be saved with treatment. The mum will abandon pups only when she thinks something is wrong tho.
Runts don't often survive, but sometimes they do.

Just wanted to thank you for rejecting the vets advice to euthanize the pups. Your decision to have the pups and raise them for adoption was beautifully realized. All the puppies were absolutely gorgeous, so healthy and beautiful and apparently you kept up with them after they were adopted. I so much enjoyed your adventure, and in the end your wonderful family. The photos of your son and Riley were heart-warming. Bravo on doing a wonderful thing.
I agree a million thanks to her kindness. On a side note, the vet was kinda cruelty in some way. The former owner that left her tied to death is going to deserve a lot of bad karma going thru their lives. Everything has its own price.
Autumn Giang Please understand that that was not "cruel" thing for the vet to suggest. For every puppy that is sold/bought, a shelter animal dies. Almost 3 million adoptable pets are euthanized every year because of lack of space. Every one of those people who bought a puppy could have adopted one instead and saved 2 lives; the puppy they adopted and the dog who was able to take his place in the shelter instead of being euthanized. So yes, while it may sound terrible and sad to spay a pregnant dog, veterinarians and other shelter and animal professionals are most concerned with high euthanasia rates in shelters and pet overpopulation and will do everything they can to better the situation.
so its ok to kill a puppy so an older dog can maybe have a chance? how is that right? neither are. i think euthanizing is always cruel and especially to a small pup

Those of us volunteering in rescue have our hands sooo full with adult animals we have no time/energy/money left to help with litters of animals. Anger should be directed only to ANY person that has allowed their animal (or strays) to remain intact and/or breed. They are creating too too many animals to find homes. Kill shelters are overrun and there is rarely room at fosters even.

It was like that with our cat: " no, we will give them Away!" Then, my mom fell in love with the Girl, because she has long fur,my mom always Wanted a cat with long fur. I fell in love with one Boy, he always slept in my Bed and was just like a doggo (Rip trix ♡..) and then my mom fell also in love with the 2nd Boy 😂 (Rip Morle ♡..) (both went missing and we later found out our neightbour killed them and trew them Away... may he Go to hell and burn for an eternety.) Sorry, just had to tell you 😅

A stray dog followed me home and was pregnant. My family and I have given her a home. Two weeks after she followed me home, she gave birth to 10 puppies and we are helping her raise them. We are trying to find them a home after we take them to get their shots. I hope their new owners will love them and treat them with respect and kindness.
Brought tears to my eyes. We took in a pregnant stray cat a couple years ago and she had two kittens, we also kept them :)

a few years late but this is the most incredible story i’ve seen in awhile. I understand having to spay pregnant animals, but when they’re that far into a pregnancy it’s just wrong. All those babies turned out so beautiful, including the one who passed. Im so glad they all got good homes, they’re all such lovely dogs, and you guys are amazing people rescuing and raising your dog and her puppies. thank you for being such good people , the world needs more people like this

You don't "have" to spay pregnant animals. Humans should just stick to killing their own unborn babies.
Treat unborn dogs like born dogs: There are a few scenarios where euthanasia is necessary. Convenience is not one of them.

Whats more beautiful than raising them and finding them homes is following through with the stories and how they all ended up, just find a home for a dog is special but to follow through on each of their lives is a beautiful thing to do.

We adopted a stray dog too not knowing she was newly pregnant. 2 months later she gave birth to 4 puppies. 3 girls and 1 boy. We found homes for the girls after 8 weeks. We kept the boy and neutered him. We love them dearly too.

27 years ago, June 1993, I was two weeks from moving out of state when our Collie Zoey started to act strange. Years before we had a very tragic experience with our Shepherd Starskey. She had a massive stroke 😩. In this situation I was so afraid she might meet the same fate, but in fact she was pregnant! During spring break we had traveled to Arizona to look for housing and had to leave our Zoey at a kennel for a week. 3 months later we have 10 puppies 🤔 A person told me to take the newborn puppies to the pound 😡 Hell no❗️. We traveled to Arizona in a Ryder truck and arrived safely. All the puppies found amazing homes. Our Zoey was such an AWESOME mom❗️ I’m so happy we had that blessed experience 💋

As a kid our family got a puppy. I always wanted to have 5-6 dogs and i hoped our family dog will give babies one day(so I was told by my parents) and we'll have so many puppies. Then I grew up to find out that male dogs don't give birth

Sweet puppies. Mama was lucky to find such a wonderful home. Did you know an actual whelping box has a low shelf around the inside? The purpose is to give puppies a space to wiggle under if the mother accidentally lays on a pup. Especially if the breed is large, as pups are sometimes trapped under mama and smothered.
