I am so in love with this guy....and I've only know him for a few days! You'll be seeing LOTS of him on my channel as we build a life together. Do you have a shelter dog? Any experience with a Border Collie? I would love your suggestions, comments, advice on how to make this transition as smooth as possible for both of us :)
Only just seen this so I really you hope you have settled in together I am living in England and have had Border Collies for many years if you need any advice only to happy to share what I have learnt over the years
No, I am a dog lover, I hate cruelty with animals, I would love to have a dogs but my landlord dont allow animals so I hope to be able to buy a house one days to have a couple 🙂
He doesn’t seem like we traditionally call a border collie in the UK they are usually black and white and are usually working dogs used in the farming community to herd sheep, intelligent and very loyal, as someone said “a happy collie is a tired collie” I’m happy to be corrected of course
Nuris M. AGREED! You are so right! Dogs do Only have a Very SHORT TIME here. PLEASE give them the love , good food and good home they want and need! Thanks to everyone who is a BIG SOFTY ANIMAL LOVER. There’s a special place in heaven for you and your pets to be together and happy forever ♾
I adopted a cat who had been in humane society for 7 years. He was 2 weeks old when he came there. I couldn't let that continue. He's a lovely cat - been home for 4 weeks.
@@gardenjoy5223 .....also think of all the 'alley cats' that ppl dump. I've never needed to adopt a cat from a shelter bc the alley are literally flooded with non spayed cats that are banished to live outside. Their very short lives are full of suffering.
@Charlene Nosugref We think a lot alike. All my furbabies were ferals when I trapped them....some before they had kittens. Like u I had to pay for their spay/neutering. The kitties need more persons like u who are caring & compassionate....esp toward animals.
Difference is she loves dogs some people just get bored and go get one and then take it back if it doesn't do what they wanted to do I have never been without a dog until 4 months ago when I had to put my last one down
Most dangerous thing you can do… go into a shelter or go to a shelter web page “just to look”. You wind up with a dog! I’ve had a few last resort dogs. We adopted Z the day before his appointment with the needle. Z was a pain for the first few months; he ran away, chased elk, got skunked and full of porcupine quills multiple times. And now, he is the best dog of our lives.
We wound up with two and already had a dog. They are all passed now, we only have one, but having 3 dogs was wonderful, a lot of work, but we miss having a pack.
I adopted a severely abused dog 3 1/2 years ago. She changed my life in the most amazing ways! It took 3 years for her to fully relax... now, she doesnt wake up for treats even!! I cant imagine life without her... i saved her and she saved me!
It is so odd that a dogs or a cat can fill that huge HOLE in our hearts & leave footprints we never expected to fill! God is good to us by getting the right animals to the right person...it just seems to “work out”. I believe there is a plan that for all of us...for the lonely pet & for those of us who have been left behind with our broken hearts! Give a pet a chance!!
The only reason I can think of for no one wanting him is that Border Collie or Smooth Collie blood. They can be very intense and not to everyone's taste. But also, they seemed to be fated to be together. Fate was just waiting for her to be ready to get another dog!
I wondered the same thing. I think the reason why he was in the shelter so long was that she was waiting for this wonderful family to adopt him. I truly believe it was destiny.
My last 3 dogs have all been rescue dogs; I had to put one down after 16 1/2 yrs, he gave us 12 years of love and laughs and mayhem and will be missed forever. The last two will be around for about 10 and 8 respectively. They are lots of fun, every one different from the previous one, each one with their own charm and qualities. I only wish I could adopt more. Good save, Pollux!
@J E I negatively judge people who own dogs in general. I was attacked by a dog as a child and have developed a general disliking for the creatures. My family has owned many dogs but I do not develop the same level of relationship with them that I do with my cats.
To be honest... I feel so sorry for "ugly" dogs that no one adopts. However, Pollus is beautiful. Hard to believe that no one adopted him before. A long wait but worth it !!
On top of that he came into the shelter as a puppy. Must've been skittish from the start. The shy , reserved dogs seem to have trouble getting adopted.
I know what he is. He's a Mongolian Mouse Hound. That was my mum's standard repley to dog snobs who wanted to know what our rescue dogs were. They were duly impressed. So there you go you probably have the only Mongolian Mouse Hound in the world. I bet Pollux only cares that you love him.
Google Parson Russell terrier. He may be a mix because he is a little big for a terrier but his face and the little white line on his forehead. We have a parson Russell terrier and has some of the same quirky thins. His hair is super soft and he has the same Dottie tummy. .has Maddie always been the first Has Maxie always been the first dog? If so he thinks he dominant even though he is smaller. And their food is something they are very protective of our dog Abel. Also tears up his beds. The first night we had Abe. We slept in a room that w had not remodeled from the prior owners of the house. It had a linoleum floot so pee was ok. I slept on the floor beside him and noticed that he kept biting at hi new bed. After. Watching him. I noticed that when he moved around in the bed th static from the nylon stuffing in the bed would spark. And every time he saw or felt a spark he would bite at it and pull the stuffing out. He also tears all of his soft toys up that squeak. Abe was a little scared of his baby pool except when it was really hot. He would get in and stand. He never Tore anything up in the house, he did chew a small hole in the carpet but we were planning to replace with hardwood. Doggie door put treats on the other side and I would guess he will go through the door to get the favorite treat. I loved all of your videos. Dogs do teach other how to live in the house. Google. Parson Russell terrier
This is why shelters need foster families to take dogs in and teach them how to be family pets, so they can be calm and sociable, and ready for adoption. This is also why everyone should #AdoptNotShop It's amazing that you guys took in this lovely boy, but he should never have gotten to this point of stress and emotional neglect in the first place
You are so right. Shelters do need foster families, dog walkers, and grassy areas for dogs to run, and more people like this great family who were willing to give a scared dog a home.
Shelters, rescues, fosters, others need to inform others of how much fosters are needed. I know we assume everyone Knows, but many do not. Also, it's Always a plus if there are other pets in the home. Beautiful family, Thank you fur taking in such a worthy dog who needed all your families Love & Patience.
He was being held back for the family who found him, just at the right moment for him and for them. God works strangely but He is always loving us. All His creations are precious in His sight. He was watching over Pollux.
Such a shame that the shelter didnt take time to socialize him when he was a little puppy. Then he wouldnt have been so distant with people. He is lucky to have your family. Enjoy
This warms my heart. I am a rescue dog person, foster parent and shelter volunteer. Thank you so much for opening your home to Pollux. Just remember the rules of 3s. 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine and 3 months to start to be comfortable. Look forward to many happy updates. Taking a dog that has been in the shelter his entire life is s huge undertaking. Bless you…..Again my thanks from all of us rescue folks.
When you know you know. That is a member of your family you didn't know existed until you saw that picture. Thank you so much for listening to your instincts!
I just found this video and also just lost my big Pyrenees a few months back. He was so much like this dog! He once turned over a cake platter on my counter and ate a whole Angel food cake! Like you, I had no idea dogs would countersurf! Thanks for the laughs and the memories of my sweet boy.
When you said you don’t know why you looked on FB page right before Christmas, I know why,... your guardian angel whispered I your ear that this creature needed a home. Just wait. Pollux is going to give something wonderful in your lives! GOD bless!
All of my pets have been shelter rescues. There is a learning curve at first, but I am sure you will find Pollux to be a most faithful and beautiful companion.
Pollux is my 4th shelter rescue....with the others all being Miniature Schnauzers. I'm figuring out the Border Collie part and they seem to be an interesting breed. Lots for me to learn!
WHERE DID HE get the name POLLUX from ? Did he already have that name , or DID YOU name him? IF the shelter named him , personally I would have RENAMED him if possible , I think it depends on HOW OLD they are , because IF they they are used to one name , then it may COFUSE them as it's not like a PERSON changing their name , as you can call yourself what you want , you CANT change your SURNAME unless it is by DEEDPOLL or GET MARRIED
How, HOW did this dog stay so long in a shelter? He's SO adorable! Well, it may have taken longer than makes any sense, but he seems to have landed in the right place!
Susan, I have no idea what your comment means in this YT context. The "Curly" family did not go shopping for a dog, they went to rescue one. Your comment to "stop breeding cats and dogs" ??? are you on drugs or of serious low IQ ?.....jeez, whats next on your hit list............ humans !!
My family has had both. We got a shelter dog. Due to her health issues she didn't live very long after we got her. Before we got her a family friend who was a breeder gave us our first dog as a gift. Sometimes it's better for first timers to have a clean slate to work off of. Shelter dogs May, emphasis on May, come from a background of abuse, behavioral issues, or health problems. Dogs that are bred correctly grow up in a nurturing environment and are well socialized. It might be a better experience for them than bonding with a Shelter Pet and not being able to care for it properly. Our shelter dog with a sweetheart and we loved her to death, but she was a LOT of work. Very emotional, growled at everything, trauma basically her whole life. she didn't really have a home before she came to us, And she was actually pretty old! She was such a character. I miss her. Sometimes I think about all of the pain she must have suffered and how it took up most of her life. Our first dog, on the other hand, was the only as badly behaved is we allowed him to be. He got away with a lot more than he should! I'm telling this story not because I don't think you should adopt shelter dogs, but because I think you should be very careful about your options. there are ethical ways to find a breeder if you don't think of shelter dog as right for your family. Jenna Marbles is a UA-camr who has both breeder and shelter dogs , and she outlines the difference between her experiences with them pretty well. also, in some places, shelter dogs are actually hard to get , and shelters have waiting lists! They have to work really hard to find a dog somewhere else! Which is excellent news. My first dog is approaching his sweet 16. When he crosses the Rainbow Bridge one day , I hope his friend will be there. I hope someday to adopt from a shelter I'm going to do it when I'm good and ready.
Poor dog, all his life at the refuge, thank you for giving him a family, a wonderful and so loving mother and a wonderful father, the whole family is super nice, thank you
He looks like he has some Smooth Fox Terrier in him. Long, slim muzzle and colouring are right. They are the naughtiest, cleverest little dogs and so full of fun. Enjoy your gorgeous boy!
Dogs are a great gift to us. I had my little Jonny pass away a few months ago. I still have not completely recovered. Dogs aren't people but they are precious little lives that have feelings and love us. I think of all the precious memories with my dog and I will always cherish them. Dogs are simply wonderful.
Unfortunately in Spain, some do come back, they throw them away because they bark to much or stupid things they realized dogs do. Sad, I live in Spain and it's hell for dogs
Me too! I have tamed Feral cats from the streets. One is lying at the foot of my bed as she loves to do when I'm busy. She's 12 years old, and you'd never know it as she is faster and more athletic than my other three.
I got my dog from the local shelter. They couldn’t tell me anything about his long term past but he had been taken home 3 times and returned. He’s 120lbs. He’s great on a leash , he was 99% house trained. He is a great dog. The minute he walked in the door him and my other dog were best friends. Never had a problem. He’s not food aggressive at all. I can even reach in his bowl and take his food out of his bowl with my hand. He doesn’t bother the cats. All around he’s been a wonderful dog. He’s like velcro to me but I love that about him. I have no idea why anyone would return him but I’m glad they did. He’s in his forever home now and he’s a perfect fit.
Sabastian Taylor that’s amazing !!! I got all my cAts from my local shelter . My kola was in a shelter for nine months was told not to adopt bc he would have to many issues and expensive teeth stuff to fix , I didn’t care , he has been the best thing that has ever happened to me , my life my world and to think someone declawed then threw this beautiful loving cat out and he was found with eye infection and so skinny he almost died , makes me so mad at people out there !!! But to hear such great stores like yours, brings back belief that there are still angels among us !!! Thank you for adopting from your shelter !! I believe animals are Angels from heaven !
i only realised this when i read this comment, but i did notice that his eyes look so similar to my rough collie’s eyes. edit: his bark is also very similar.
I was going to say this as well too till I saw someone else wrote it. At the end, you described my smoothie to a T. The soft ears, velvety hair his ears any collie owner would die for, natural and perfect. Collies are very smart, laid back, less crazy than a boarder collie and love their people.
This just popped up in my feed as suggested......over a year after its posted. Yet what an incredibly sweet video. As a doggie mom myself it just makes my heart sing. He wasn't in the animal shelter lost....he was there waiting for your beautiful family. So happy for you and Pollux.
I cried my eyes out for 2 days because we couldn’t get him due to the shelter being closed for Christmas. But all is well now and Pollux is doing wonderfully 💗
This is the sweetest story. Thank you for saving this pup, thank you for sharing with us and reminding us of our responsibilities when it comes to paying it forward.
We rescued our pit bull Cinnamon from Detroit. She was thrown out of a moving car as a puppy. She was scared of car rides & men. Especially if they wore hats or hoodies. She’d bark & growl & her hair would stand up. She was also very timid & shy coming home too. But after lots of time & lots of loving. She’s a totally different dog. We had a pug that taught her how to dog lol.
Sounds just like my pitbull Ronnie. I hated pitbulls at first, but now she's is my best friend. She had a really hard life. Was found emaciated in an abandoned warehouse and was abused. She's spoiled now and overly loved. She is my shadow and never leaves my side. Thank you for what you did for your dog
A coworker rescued a pitbull that was the "bait dog" for dog fights. She (the dog) is scared of men in hats and hoodies too. Glad your dog was lucky to find you and a loving home.
I love Pitts. Both mine are rescued. Bear was given up at the age of 10 months because he was submissive. Buddy was rescued from a hoarding situation where he was found in a shed that he had been in since 3 months old. He was 13 month old when rescued. Buddy had to be potty trained and learn everything. He's an exceptional dog. They are, and they both are my boys. So, from sleeping in a shed to sleeping on my bed, ....he's got it pretty good now.
We need more people in the world who will just go in and take these sweet animals who have been in the shelters for so long. Thank you for giving him a chance. Truly seeing that he needed a home, and taking him in. My sweet Link (border collie mix) had been in the shelter for two and a half years. He's been abandoned at a truck stop, lived at a shelter, adopted and returned twice, and lived so long in the shelter. He was labeled a red sticker dog, and we were told no cats, no dogs, and no children for him. We took him home and he is great with other dogs and kids. He has a couple of quirks (he is protective of me), but honestly he is one of the BEST dogs I've ever had.🐾💙
Aw, that's so cute. Thank you. We need more people who adopt the dogs with stories, the ones who need it most. There are plenty dogs out there with tragic stories of being returned, abused, and neglected. They really need love. It's a shame how people reject these dogs for their stories, so I'm happy you took the time to give Link love! 🐾❤️ Also, if he's your profile picture... HE'S ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! Does he run a lot? 😂❤️🐾
What a lovely story! I teared up several times. I bet there are many just like him waiting for a special family like yours to adopt and love them. I think I need to follow you just to see him again! Thank you for taking him home!!! ❤
Pollox also looks part greyhound with his nose and thinner body. I love him. We always take animal shelter dogs and cats. They are the sweetest and most loyal animals in the world.
This brought tears to my eyes. So sad that he spent so long in the shelter as a puppy, I thought they were the first to go. I’m so glad you adopted him. I’ll be watching more of HIS videos.
He's a beautiful dog. It doesn't make sense that no one would adopt him. Unless, he needed to sit there an wait for the day that YOU were coming for him. Best of luck to all of you!
2 Tips: your husband tried to pet him on the head, he should pet him underneath, like you did, its good for his attitude. And if he has problems with something, like hats, shoes or something else. Don't stop using them. Get the best treats, cheese or chicken, something that smells good, stay still or sit down (bend over a dog makes him feel Uneasy) and give the treats, not as long as he shows aggressive behaviour, if he does that. This will strengthen your relationship faster. You and your family make a great job, thanks for giving a real life to this wonderful dog.
You can actually see around 10:00 that he tries to pet him three times. First time it's on the head and Pollux gets scared, second time is underneath and Pollux accepts it and then he tries to pet Pollux on top of his head again and he immediately flinches away. I mean just imagine for yourself a giant hand reaching out over your head, blocking most of your vision. That's scarier than a giant hand reaching in to the side of your face.
@@hilomona u are completely correct; its amazing people cannot READ a dogs thoughts by its very obvious body language; perhaps a bite would inform these people that they are PUSHING the dogs comfort limits TOO FAR and it will SNAP! LITERALLY!!
Oh my! I saw Pollux at an adoption event at Pet Smart! I wanted to take him home but I recognized how tightly wound and fearful he was and did not think I had the skills to handle him and I already have 2 big dogs. My heart broke for him. I am so glad to hear that someone finally gave him a chance. If he is part border collie you can connect with him during play time. Maybe eventually he will play ball with you. I had 2 border collies in the past and they are non-stop energy. That may explain why Pollux is not well adjusted. He was not abused at the shelter but he did not have enough avenues to express his high energy so it turned inward into fear and anxiety. Those walks you take him on are therapeutic. Keep it up. I am cheering for you and for Pollux! THANKS for sharing!
Oh Debra!!!! Pollux has transformed into the sweetest boy...and in just the few days we've had him. He still does have a lot of energy but he's using it to play with our other dog and chew on toys. We're going on long walks every day and he is getting used to the sounds in our house. Every morning, he wakes up better than the day before. I'm glad to know you saw him and all was well. We are loving every minute with him!
God knew Pollux was waiting on you! What a blessing! His rescue was yours too! God bless you all! “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened”. (Anatole France)
So , having rescued a racing greyhound it’s really cool watching him learn to be a pet. It’s been a real treat watching him learn and adapt. 4years and he’s still getting the hang of it. Lotsa luck, it’s worth it.
WELCOME TO MY CURLS He is a typical English lurcher. Gentle temperament. Squats to pee. Can be a sneaky thief - can’t help it. Run really fast. Lovely dogs but they are half greyhound and think they are a bit superior to ordinary dogs.
@@MrNicopa I thought 'lurcher' was an invention by Arthur Conan Doyle for his Sherlock Holmes tales. Thanks for this comment- I will have to look into this.
I don’t see Greyhound in him. What lead you to that conclusion? Are you planning to get a doggie DNA kit? FYI, not all males lift their leg to pee, plenty of them squat.
You’re just plain WONDERFUL, KIND, LOVING PEOPLE... We need many, many more people like you on this world! Thank u for sharing this video full of love, humor, and kindness... you got a new subscriber and fan!
Thank you for doing this. It took courage because there were so many unknowns. You could have gotten a dog that was totally messed up. The poor thing. His whole life in the shelter. You saved him. So nice to see kindness in a often very unkind world.
Here I am again watching your amazing story of how you came to adopt Pollux ... I still get happy emotional about it. What a precious addition to your family he has become❤
As an animal lover who has been crossposting cats and dogs on social media for years, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving this angel a home. May God bless you! ❤😇
He is a coonhound mix. I too adopted a beautiful.. very shy/skittish dog from my local shelter.. 2 months ago. She is a Tree Walker Coonhound mix. The only difference between your dog and mine.. is mine has longer legs. When I got her she was skin and bones. She is 7 yrs old and had been used as a breeding dog. She has gained weight, is the sweetest dog.. but still skittish. The funny thing is, when she is around other dogs she has no shyness, is outgoing and wants to befriend everyone. Two days ago I adopted a 6 month old lab/pit-bull puppy that was found in the woods, alone with severe mange. He is baldish, but on the mend. They are the best of friends. I’m done adopting.. have found my two best friends. Now I will concentrate on making their lives the best they can be in their forever home. Plan to make the pup cups this week. Thank you.
We took on a dog who had been in the local dog rescue centre for nearly two years, nobody wanted her because she had health problems, but she turned into the most faithful friend for over 16 years and repaid every moment and the money spent on her care with love and devotion.
I'm so happy for Pollux that he has a wonderful family. 491 days is a long time to wait but in this case it was worth it because Pollux now has the best home he could ever have. That is obvious.
Hi Renee, My favourite video of all time! Pollux is a magnificent, beautiful, gentle dog! You have given him a truly wonderful life! May God bless you and your family! Dave, Isle of Wight, England, UK. 🇬🇧🇺🇲
God bless you! I have 2 rescues myself. The last one came into the shelter 7:30pm the night before I went there and she was already scheduled to be euthanized because of major medical issues and being a senior dog. I got everything taken care of. They said she will eventually go blind, I can deal with that as she is such a sweet baby.
Oh my goodness!! So glad to know she has a good home now. I adopted a senior Miniature Schnauzer....and he lived with us for 4 years before he passed. And he was the sweetest boy
Dogs, in their deep essence, just want to BELONG. Dogs would tear another dog apart because they belong to their owner. The one who feeds them has their loyalty.
I got one of those “calming beds” for my Greyhound and within 5 minutes he completely destroyed it. I removed the stuffing, tied it in a knot and it is now his favorite toy! BTW, this dog has never destroyed anything other than one stuffed toy.
*I ADORE BOTH YOUR PUPS! THANK YOU FOR GIVING MR.P A HOME,ALSO BECAUSE OF YOU,ABOUT A YEAR AGO,WATCHING YOU GROW OUT YOUR HAIR, MY SON BLAKE WAS WATCHING ME WATCH YOU,AND ASKED ME TO JOIN YOU IN YOUR JOURNEY,HE HAS WANTED ME TO LET MY NATURAL HAIR COLOR GROW OUT FOR THE LONGEST TIME, SO,I DID!!! FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE I WAS 16... I STOPPED BUYING MY HAIR DYE, I'M 59 YEARS OLD WILL BE 60 Y.O COMING THIS SEPTEMBER 29TH 2021, AND NOW, ALL OF MY HAIR HAS GROWN OUT,CUTTING OFF THE DYED ENDS AS IT GREW, AND TODAY, IS MY ALL NATURAL,ALL MINE, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL GREY HAIR COLOR... I HAVE ACTUALLY HAD PEOPLE ASK ME WHAT COLOR DO I DYE MY HAIR AND WHEN I TELL THEM IT'S MY NATURAL HAIR COLOR,THEY JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT!*
He reminds me so much of our rescue we adopted 2 1/2 years ago. She’s a little less anxious but she is still shy and scared of new people and other dogs. We originally came early one morning to look at a German Shepard puppy they advertised on the shelters Facebook page. Someone had gotten there before they opened and adopted him right away. We decided why not look around while we were there. I noticed a dog there that reminded me of our last rescue who had passed the year before. All the shelter knew was that she was part Akita. She’s a beautiful dog and her brother had been adopted a month prior. I remember her standing out at the shelter bc she was so scared and tried to hide in the back of her space. She had the saddest eyes while the other dogs were at the door and barking loud with curiosity. It seemed like she had given up at that point so we eventually came back and adopted her with no hesitation. Every moment with her makes me smile and see life as something that should be appreciated. She’s a reminder to me that there’s still innocence and good in the world. No matter what I’m going through, just seeing her will remind me that everything will be okay and my sadness or fear just melts away. She also reminds me of a deer. She prances like one and loves to run very fast. She still gets anxious from time to time but we always remind her that she’s okay and loved. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to share your happiness and love with an animal who may have never experienced it.
Gosh, I really appreciate what you've done. Poor animals all over struggle to find the love that they deserve--especially shelter dogs. I'm so happy that she got to give you the love you deserved, and that you could do the same for her! ❤️
Thank you do much for opening up your heart and soul to Pollux! He is a very sweet and gentle and wonderful dog, and I'm grateful and thankful that he went home with your wonderful people!! You are Angels! Love you for that! He will open up more to you the longer he feels completely safe and comfortable!!
watching this with tears in my eyes, I'm laying next to this little angel our family just adopted from Puerto Rico and is slowly coming out of her shell. Watching videos for tips and stories about fearful rescue dogs so I can be the best human to her.
Has never been out of the shelter?? In our shelter in Estonia, Tallinn any person (adult) can come and walk with a dog for a minimum of an hour in a certain period of time and this is very popular) I wish Pollux good luck :)
Where I live, you have to sign up as a volunteer to walk a dog, no one can walk in off the street and take one for a walk. And the volunteer list is very popular, so difficult to get in as a volunteer.
This was just ment to be. We found a starving lurcher, long story she has lived with us ever since. And she is a true blessing. Took one year for her to wag her tail. Enjoy your lives together xxx
"All good things comes to those who wait" is exactly true in this case for this cute dog, He waited 491 hard days at the shelter and got adopted by the best loving Family Ever.
I adopted a dog while working in Seattle. The dog was in a shelter in So. California, so they drove him up to me. I was in a hotel for 3 months. He had never been indoors just like your dog and was blown away by a bed and covers. He slept with me. Oh, and he wasn't potty trained, and peed in the carpet, so I had to put pee pads down. Did I mention he's a 75 lb Pitbull who pees like a race horse? He actually peed on the bed once, I freaked. I guess he felt he needed to mark his turf. Ugh! Also, he was scared of EVERYTHING, and the noises from the city. He would try to attack his reflection, and refused to go up or down the stairs. That was concerning as back home I live on the 3rd floor. I had to hire a trainer as he was acting aggressive with everyone and everything. This helped. We're back home and he's a ton better, and loves my son, yet still a bit insect and isn't too hip with other dogs. Still, I'm glad I got him. What your family has done is awesome.

Difference is she loves dogs some people just get bored and go get one and then take it back if it doesn't do what they wanted to do I have never been without a dog until 4 months ago when I had to put my last one down
Maybe God wanted him to be with this nice lady
Probably his fearfulness & shyness turned people off.
yeah, he‘s really lucky cause some dogs i saw were in the shelter for like 5 years
Most dangerous thing you can do… go into a shelter or go to a shelter web page “just to look”.
You wind up with a dog!
I’ve had a few last resort dogs. We adopted Z the day before his appointment with the needle.
Z was a pain for the first few months; he ran away, chased elk, got skunked and full of porcupine quills multiple times.
And now, he is the best dog of our lives.
God repays blessings
We wound up with two and already had a dog. They are all passed now, we only have one, but having 3 dogs was wonderful, a lot of work, but we miss having a pack.
Or a loving cat!!
not dangerous its love
I started crying happy tears when the girls unrolled the gift.
Me too!!!!! ❤️
So did I 💕
saaaaame :,)
Me too! Such a moving story. You are very nice people and Pollux looks so happy!!!
I adopted a severely abused dog 3 1/2 years ago. She changed my life in the most amazing ways! It took 3 years for her to fully relax... now, she doesnt wake up for treats even!! I cant imagine life without her... i saved her and she saved me!
Thank you. Wish you both lots of love xxxx
I got a puppy who was not taken care of properly and has some wounds. She is still recovering.
Thanks for saving
Funny how we think we're saving them & its actually us who gets the saving!
Can't imagine why anybody didn't want him, he is a big fur baby. Bless your heart.
Ζωή Συμεωνωφ in this video she will explain why nobody wanted this dog
The only reason I can think of for no one wanting him is that Border Collie or Smooth Collie blood. They can be very intense and not to everyone's taste. But also, they seemed to be fated to be together. Fate was just waiting for her to be ready to get another dog!
High energy, anxious. It's sad, but I can see why. Few people are equipped to deal with other people's huge mistakes. I'm glad it worked out.
I wondered the same thing. I think the reason why he was in the shelter so long was that she was waiting for this wonderful family to adopt him. I truly believe it was destiny.
Thank you for adding Pollux to your family. He is in good and loving hands now. God bless your family!! 🥰❤️
The fact you adopted this dog tells me you are a good person.
Exactly. The fact that they have to be EXTREMELY patient with this dog, says a lot about their character ❤
Well little by little you know her .remember her life was not easy !!!! 💁🏻♀️🇺🇸🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼♥️
The only animal that I will own is a rescue animal
Me too
Agree i have always adopted my dogs
My last 3 dogs have all been rescue dogs; I had to put one down after 16 1/2 yrs, he gave us 12 years of love and laughs and mayhem and will be missed forever. The last two will be around for about 10 and 8 respectively. They are lots of fun, every one different from the previous one, each one with their own charm and qualities. I only wish I could adopt more. Good save, Pollux!
🙋🏽♀️ here here. It has been the greatest journey ever!!
@J E I negatively judge people who own dogs in general. I was attacked by a dog as a child and have developed a general disliking for the creatures. My family has owned many dogs but I do not develop the same level of relationship with them that I do with my cats.
So cute! He won the lottery when you adopted him.
I said the same thing when my sister adopted a chihuahua mix. Zoe won the lottery!!
That Maxy looks like a great one too
Yes he did.
Thank you so much for giving that precious boy a good home. He'll be so grateful!!!😊
To be honest... I feel so sorry for "ugly" dogs that no one adopts. However, Pollus is beautiful. Hard to believe that no one adopted him before. A long wait but worth it !!
Mindy. No dog or animal is ugly.
Jeffrey Rawles vv
On top of that he came into the shelter as a puppy. Must've been skittish from the start. The shy , reserved dogs seem to have trouble getting adopted.
She isn't saying there are ugly dogs, she put ugly in quotes.
There are no ugly dogs in my eyes
I know what he is. He's a Mongolian Mouse Hound. That was my mum's standard repley to dog snobs who wanted to know what our rescue dogs were. They were duly impressed. So there you go you probably have the only Mongolian Mouse Hound in the world. I bet Pollux only cares that you love him.
Wonderful comment Cedar !! Mongolian Mouse Hound. I will remember that..... Love it.
Google Parson Russell terrier. He may be a mix because he is a little big for a terrier but his face and the little white line on his forehead. We have a parson Russell terrier and has some of the same quirky thins. His hair is super soft and he has the same Dottie tummy. .has Maddie always been the first
Has Maxie always been the first dog? He never
Tore anything up in the house, he did chew a small hole in the carpet but we were planning to replace with hardwood. Doggie door put treats on the other side and I would guess he will go through the door to get the favorite treat. I loved all of your videos. Dogs do teach other how to live in the house. Google. Parson Russell terrier
He’s a mongrel but I like your version better
Another good imaginary breed is Moluccan Shepherd.
😅🤣😂👍🤗🇦🇺
This is why shelters need foster families to take dogs in and teach them how to be family pets, so they can be calm and sociable, and ready for adoption. This is also why everyone should #AdoptNotShop It's amazing that you guys took in this lovely boy, but he should never have gotten to this point of stress and emotional neglect in the first place
Exactly.
You have words of wisdom
Adopt not shop
Breaks my heart. I’m so glad there’s people like you. Be patient with him.
Why would no one want him he’s so handsome just a ball of perfection. He’s such a blessed dog you were meant to be his family.
He was being held back for the family who found him, just at the right moment for him and for them. God works strangely but He is always loving us. All His creations are precious in His sight. He was watching over Pollux.
Martha Beimer precisely ☺️🙏
Love you Lisa!
I adopted a dog no one wanted too. She was in the shelter for 8 years. Her whole life. Great dog!!
Bless you ❤
You're a hero thanks to you n god bless you both happily.
8 years!!!! Aw, so happy the dog finally found a home!!
Thank you SO much for doing that! It is not always sweet and easy, but there is nothing kinder than giving someone lonely and helpless a loving home
Omg. 8 years. That's incredibly terrible.
Such a shame that the shelter didnt take time to socialize him when he was a little puppy. Then he wouldnt have been so distant with people. He is lucky to have your family. Enjoy
Karen S This!!!! Soooo important! I’ve been volunteering at my shelter since I was 16 and am now turning 20. It’s such a fulfilling thing to do!
They probably didn't HAVE time because of a limited amount of staff and wanting to help as many dogs as possible.
Bless your hearts for giving this big baby a home... he is so cute... love him
When you know you know. That is a member of your family you didn't know existed until you saw that picture. Thank you so much for listening to your instincts!
That's exactly what it is the same thing happened to me with my pitbull . Have a dog your self Amanda ?
He loves his mama, he knows who saved him.
I just found this video and also just lost my big Pyrenees a few months back. He was so much like this dog! He once turned over a cake platter on my counter and ate a whole Angel food cake! Like you, I had no idea dogs would countersurf! Thanks for the laughs and the memories of my sweet boy.
God bless you for caring and giving him a home.
Wonderful woman!
Im so happy god sent you for this wonderful fur baby!
Thankyou for being his new mum
🙏
When you said you don’t know why you looked on FB page right before Christmas, I know why,... your guardian angel whispered I your ear that this creature needed a home. Just wait. Pollux is going to give something wonderful in your lives! GOD bless!
Pollux is an angel!! ❤️
The BEST ever
WHERE DID HE get the name POLLUX from ? Did he already have that name , or DID YOU name him? IF the shelter named him , personally I would have RENAMED him if possible , I think it depends on HOW OLD they are , because IF they they are used to one name , then it may COFUSE them as it's not like a PERSON changing their name , as you can call yourself what you want , you CANT change your SURNAME unless it is by DEEDPOLL or GET MARRIED
You and your family are amazing. Thank you for rescuing him and helping him learn how to be a dog.
He couldn't have found a more loving, accepting home. Lovely people with big hearts.
Love your family...
I love how gentle you are with him letting him come out of his shell in his own time. BEAUTIFUL

He's a good looking dog. I'm surprised he spent that much time in the Shelter.
I thought the same
How, HOW did this dog stay so long in a shelter? He's SO adorable! Well, it may have taken longer than makes any sense, but he seems to have landed in the right place!
People who shop for their pets NEED to see this video.
This is also why breeding cats and dogs needs to END!
If breeding ended, there wouldn't be any more cats and dogs.
SusanBrooklyn Some people need specific breeds for specific tasks. Adopt AND shop responsibly
@@PaulGuy you're very ignorant to how many cats and dogs get put to sleep everyday if you believe that.
Poor dog, all his life at the refuge, thank you for giving him a family, a wonderful and so loving mother and a wonderful father, the whole family is super nice, thank you
Thanks for watching! Pollux is still adjusting to our home...but is getting more comfortable every day. He is such a sweetie!
He looks like he has some Smooth Fox Terrier in him. Long, slim muzzle and colouring are right. They are the naughtiest, cleverest little dogs and so full of fun. Enjoy your gorgeous boy!
This is such a nice video. It's a feel good video in a time that we all need it. Thank you!
I agree what a lovely family.... Lucky dog....
Way too much gloom and doom. This story make my heart do a happy dance
One of the most beautiful dog stories I’ve ever heard! Bless you for giving him the life he (and every dog) deserves! 💚
love this story so much! thankyou for saving him! god bless! he is so beautiful!
Me three!
You have a heart of gold- can’t thank you enough for giving him a home and helping him -I really enjoyed this video - so heartwarming!!
Agree. He's beautiful!
I am literally wiping away tears as I ugly cry while my rescue dog sleeps under my blanket with me and my toddler.
I adopted a cat the same way, and he is with me 8 yrs..and never give up on him. He is the boss.
cool
Dogs are a great gift to us. I had my little Jonny pass away a few months ago. I still have not completely recovered. Dogs aren't people but they are precious little lives that have feelings and love us. I think of all the precious memories with my dog and I will always cherish them. Dogs are simply wonderful.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ADOPTING THIS FURBABY AND LOVING HIM UNCONDITIONALLY.
😂 Shelter dogs always perk up on the car ride home. They know they’re out of the shelter and never going back ❤️☺️
Unfortunately in Spain, some do come back, they throw them away because they bark to much or stupid things they realized dogs do.
Sad, I live in Spain and it's hell for dogs
When I Got My Dog Fodo Out The Shelter,He When To sleep After Ten Min,
I rescue my animals straight from the streets, from over 20 years...lots...
Me too! I have tamed Feral cats from the streets. One is lying at the foot of my bed as she loves to do when I'm busy. She's 12 years old, and you'd never know it as she is faster and more athletic than my other three.
Thank you for adopting this little miracle baby, Pollux. He is just a lost baby. Animals are babies. They need to always be protected and loved.
I believe animals are Angels from heaven !
everything happens for a reason maybe velcro is really for you ...destiny :)
He looks like a Smooth Collie. Thank you so much for adopting him and giving him a amazing home ❤️🙂
i only realised this when i read this comment, but i did notice that his eyes look so similar to my rough collie’s eyes.
edit: his bark is also very similar.
Yes, and smooth collies make some of the best therapy dogs
Smoothies... best dogs ever!!!
I have a collie jack x n she's my unofficial therapy dog n I her therapy hooman 😄
Qas
All that time in the shelter paid off. Pollux got the best most loving family!!!
He is an intelligent dog, a fast learner, a genius
He looked stressed and uncertain in the shelter. Now that he is with you he looks very happy and confident. Well done.
When I adopt, I always ask for the most unadoptable dog they have. I have actually adopted some “characters “ too but I loved them.
One of our dogs went to heaven today…. Thank you, I needed to watch something happy…
“Told Randy we were going to get Polluck.” That brought tears to my eyes - THANK YOU for sharing and caring!
I cried my eyes out for 2 days because we couldn’t get him due to the shelter being closed for Christmas. But all is well now and Pollux is doing wonderfully 💗
He’s learning to be a dog in a human’s world. Awesome that you adopted him. He is adorable
I LOVE the daughter’s reactions. That is exactly how my daughters would react, thank goodness.
I'm soooo glad that baby IS with you , kind soul.....
Thank you for rescuing her. Blessings. Her story at least has a happy ending with you.🙏💙🙌🐾🐕
Sounds just like my pitbull Ronnie.
Bless your heart!!! You are a hero!!!
Is he your pfp? If so he is ADORABLE!!!
Also, if he's your profile picture...
HE'S ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE! Does he run a lot? 😂❤️🐾

@@Ashley-on4ln Yeah, that was a bit much all at once lol. He tolerated it though.
Pollux looks like he’s a smooth coated collie.
I think you are right Mary! I've done my research and came up with the same conclusion.
And my bcollie mix so shy only appreciated a few people....that passed the tests to pet him! Best judge of character
Collies and schnauzers smart breeds
Submissive dogs dont lift their legs to mark territory
Mary Swanson that’s what I thought.
Pollox also looks part greyhound with his nose and thinner body. I love him. We always take animal shelter dogs and cats. They are the sweetest and most loyal animals in the world.
I thought that from the picture, but seeing the video he is very clearly part smooth collie, not greyhound
Renee , Paul lux was truly blessed for you but got him home. He was so scared and frightened and now he’s such a happy loving dog.❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍

So , having rescued a racing greyhound it’s really cool watching him learn to be a pet. It’s been a real treat watching him learn and adapt. 4years and he’s still getting the hang of it. Lotsa luck, it’s worth it.
He's beautiful. I see some greyhound in him.
Pollux does run like a Greyhound and bobs his head. He is a VERY fast runner!! And he loves to run too!!
He kinda reminds me of a smooth coat collie

Take care and stay safe.
7:30 He is so happy he does not know what to do with himself. Bless his heart. Even a sofa is thrilling.

God bless you!
I have 2 rescues myself.
The last one came into the shelter 7:30pm the night before I went there and she was already scheduled to be euthanized because of major medical issues and being a senior dog.
I got everything taken care of. They said she will eventually go blind,
I can deal with that as she is such a sweet baby.

That dog sure has a pretty mom !
Made me cry 😢
Thank you do much for opening up your heart and soul to Pollux! He is a very sweet and gentle and wonderful dog, and I'm grateful and thankful that he went home with your wonderful people!! You are Angels! Love you for that! He will open up more to you the longer he feels completely safe and comfortable!!
So happy he ended up with someone so kind & most of all understanding.
watching this with tears in my eyes, I'm laying next to this little angel our family just adopted from Puerto Rico and is slowly coming out of her shell.
That's really amazing. That way, you get to experience some quality time with the dogs before jumping into the decision. 😉
Where I live, you have to sign up as a volunteer to walk a dog, no one can walk in off the street and take one for a walk. And the volunteer list is very popular, so difficult to get in as a volunteer.
That is great. I wish I lived in Tallinn.
He looks so much like my Sandy, she too is a rescue and scared of everything but the smartest and sweetest girl ever. I know yall love him
This was just ment to be. We found a starving lurcher, long story she has lived with us ever since. And she is a true blessing. Took one year for her to wag her tail. Enjoy your lives together xxx
"All good things comes to those who wait" is exactly true in this case for this cute dog, He waited 491 hard days at the shelter and got adopted by the best loving Family Ever.
he is such a lovely dog you did a good thing rescueing him
I adopted a dog while working in Seattle.
