    While driving for Uber, I got hit on the driver's side. The aggressor said it was my fault. My dash camera caught him on my left side, changing lanes in the intersection and hitting me. UBER PAID MY 60K MEDICAL EXPENSES.

    No camera ,no ride. Any driver who doesn't have one is crazy. Its a good reminder to idiots before they get real stupid. I never drive again Uber without one regardless of what they 😂threaten........

    The only result of this is passengers will be enabled to assault drivers or behave badly. Dashcams are a big DETERRENT and prevent crime from happening in the first place! Filming in a public capacity is 100% legal because there is no expectation of privacy. When you’re in someone else’s car and you’re on the road, there is no expectation of privacy.

    I'm curious if anyone got in trouble? Did a senator get caught doing something they shouldn't be doing? Or a constituent? Family member? Many times politicians pass laws to save their own asses.

      LOL, that's what I just commented haha. That's why they're trying to pass this bill, it really has to do with themselves getting an Uber drunk or someone in their family

    After almost getting hit 4 times in the past month I got a dashcam. All 4 times were by women glued to their phones. 3 out of 4 times I had passengers in the car. Having a dashcam is a good investment.

      Agreed! My reason that was a last straw after doing Uber for 8yrs - - last year, Thanksgiving, had a pax who demanded a second stop but didn't want to add it on. He said the price was already high enough. I was originally pinged to get him for $25 and the ride increased to $65 because his ass wanted to go through the drive through of McD's. I refused, but in the end I did it to prove him a point. When we sat through the drive through, I showed him all of the notif's that Uber was sending me that said "Why are you stopped? Are you okay?" He lied about giving me a tip, so I kicked his ass out 2mins from his destination in 12 degree weather. Mainly because he started criticizing my beautiful car and soft music. 4AM, too, he was standing out in the cold hoping for an Uber. Now, pax are notified in the app and so far no major issues

    You have no right to privacy outside your house. In my car, is in my business. All businesses have the right to video record. This is as bad as allowing women to not hire male drives based on sex. Which is against the law.
    Our government over governing.

      I think Women Connect with Lyft is great. I will use it when I am using rideshare as a passenger.

      @cherylr03 it's sexist and violates law. Not hiring someone based on sex is illegal.

      I don't see the difference between choosing a female Dr. or manicurist. It's a matter of preference.

    • @JADED1620
      @JADED1620 3 місяці тому

      @cherylr03 because you are hiring a person to do a job. Because we are private contractors, that is the exact exchange. You hire us through an exchange market. Hiring based on sex is illegal. It's not a preference that you or anyone should have. Not when hiring anyone to do a job. This is why the United States made it a constitutional law.

    • @JADED1620
      @JADED1620 3 місяці тому

      @cherylr03 a doctor and a manicurist is a bit intimate. They are touching you. Inspecting you. And or seeing you nude. None of which is a driver. This is a poor comparison.

    The riders does not have to select a driver with a dash cam. They can chose one who doesn't have one

  • @psaint60
    @psaint60 3 місяці тому +1

    Another example of the politicians not taking the time to research what the situation is before defining the “problem”.
    If you tell Uber you have a dash cam, they tell potential riders you have a dash cam. Hence, riders ALREADY HAVE the option to choose another driver.
    This sounds like someone from Uber’s Government Affairs team (same team who worked over Minnesota’s politicians) needs to bring these senators up to speed on some rideshare reality-this time on behalf of drivers, instead of opposing them.

  • @amuhammad4848

    They should focus the bill on what the recording can be used for and not give customers an option to be recorded or not.
    The recording should only be used for legal reasons (Police, courts, lawyers, insurance, app companies and the like). The only time it goes on social media, would be to seek the public's help in identifying an individual or people that are of interest or under an investigation.
    Yes people's privacy and reputation should be protected and by limiting the footage use that should suffice.
    Rideshare drivers need those cams in their vehicles for many reasons-most importantly, it protects from false accusations which can get a driver fired and as a deterent (most people are on their best behavior when they know that they are being recorded).
    As a Rideshare driver I have never had a damcam until I falsely/unjustly got deactivated 2 years ago. Now that I have a dashcam, customers behavior and false reports are not the same, my driver rating rarely changes (4.96 to 5.00). I once asked myself why didn't I get a dashcam 7 years ago ? I really would have reduced the amount challenges/troubles that I endured.
    In the year 2024 and onwards no rideshare driver should operate without a dashcam. One needs "he said and did" and "she said and did" and "it said and did record". The it will come very handy when he and she stories don't match up.

    You're so right! The cloud upload subscription should be fully paid by uber and it should be a requirement to have these cameras! Uber should keep/manage the videos if passengers feel uncomfortable and afraid that drivers misuse the recordings. Safety for both sides and for the rideshare company!

    Who are these clueless senators? A dash cam is a necessity in case of an accident to prove that you are not liable. In the old days you would carry a witness card. But if you are alone and the other driver has a passenger, good luck having that passenger say it wasn’t your fault! Not to mention being unfairly deactivated as a Rideshare driver! I just wrote to both of them.

    • @HarringJess
      @HarringJess 3 місяці тому +1

      Nice! I think I will write them, too, and explain that after 8yrs of Uber, as a female driver, I feel less worried now about the men who try to bully me. I picked up 3 men, one tried to sit up front when the 3 men can just easily sit in the back in my SUV. He was talking loudly on the phone, could imagine THAT next to me in the car? Hard pass. Nonetheless, because they were being recorded, they never confronted me, they were just loudly whispering to themselves their displeasure and laughingly trying to direct me in traffic, which I ignored them. I was waiting for them to address me once, they did not. If they did address me, I was planning on saying, "Oh, your talking to me? I had no idea because your friend is talking so loud, you never asked my name, introduced yourself or tried to engage in minimal polite convo. You guys were rude from the start."

    you have the right to record anything you want in your own private property. You also have the right to record anything the eyes can see from a public area pursuant to the first amendment of the constitution. There is no place that you cannot record while doing rideshare. Don't let them talk you out of protecting yourself. You are covered by the highest law in the land.

    Here in Illinois we are mostly a 2-party state, except for public transit vehicles, which local courts have ruled that rideshare vehicles are included. I use the DisplayRide, and have for a year now. It's amazing how high I can keep my driver rating thanks to it. I'm with Sergio, you don't want to be filmed in my car, don't get in.

    These senators are trying to protect themselves when they take an Uber and one of them are drunk, they don't want to be recorded. I guarantee someone in the family of the senator was recorded and drunk, and didn't realize that when they were notified in the app that the driver has a dashcam, they probably missed it somehow and there wasn't enough time to cancel

    Commercial grade dashcams r cheap and work well day or night every driver should have one. They're 100% tax deductible. Furthermore i primarily have one to protect me against crazy drivers running stop sign traffic lights and stupid pedestrians that don't value their lives. And sometimes prevents unruly riders from acting badly. Definitely a must.

  • @SirusQZ
    @SirusQZ 3 місяці тому

    These are likely people up to no good who don't want to be recorded. If anything, there needs to be stricter data trails...not a covering up for the bad and violent behaviors that passengers have shown themselves capable of doing. Along with basic physical safety is the lies that passengers will tell for free rides. Unregulated passenger behavior without any type of constraints in place such as knowing everything is being recorded would just lead to more bad behavior especially since it's an open secret that Uber will back bad behavior by passengers in a shameless pandering in the pursuit of squeezing every passenger dollar that Uber can get no matter the cost in this unregulated Gypsy Cab situation in which abusive and unsafe behaviors by passengers are legendary.

    Exactly, Chris. So many pax get in and they feel better with the camera recording. I tell them that the footage is deleted (which it is) and I only have it for problematic pax. Every time I get a cancellation, I know its because of the dashcam notif that Uber sends them because my car is beautiful and people LOVE it.

    I have had people tell me to turn off my cam because they are taking a confedential bussiness call. Thats what this is about. They want to use legislature to push their needs on us. But they do not want to use legislature to protect our rights or independant contractor protections. They want that lobby tho.

    Weird title to the article because I'm registered with Uber, and thankfully Lyft allowed it several months ago. In MA, it's a two party consent state, so I want them to be notified. I only have stickers on the back of my window. I used to have it on all 4 windows and on the back of the rear seats, but it was overkill. They're already notifed in the app when they're matched with me. I no longer verbalize it but I tell them when I think things are going sideways, and ever since getting my dashcam I only had to remind 4 rowdy men and that was enough for them to exit the vehicle and me to cancel.
