      Chlorine gas was the first one made for war by the same man who invented artificial fertilizer, Fritz Haber, while working for the Germans. Mustard Gas was the Entent’s response to it and is arguably worse. The fact that this takes place in France is a bit strange, though it’s more likely that the animators either wanted to make it easier to see or weren’t as familiar with chemical warfare.

    There’s a random bit of irony to this review!
    High Boi keeps referring to Skinner as “Napoleon” because of his short stature and Napoleon complex. Makes perfect sense. Skinner is voiced by Ian Holm. In the 1999 film adaptation of George Orwell’s book “Animal Farm,” Ian Holm voices Squealer, the pig who is second-in-command to the evil leader pig, Napoleon.
    This was yet another hilarious review, High Boi! Thank you for the awesome content!

  • @fIamingoslefttoe
    @fIamingoslefttoe 2 роки тому +2595

    not so fun fact: Gusteau the chef was based off of a real man from france that had got his restaurant to get a *very* high rating from an extremely high quality critic. throughout the years of running his now-successful restaurant, the quality began to drop slightly, which caused the critic to re-rate it again, removing a star. this caused the man to go into a deep depression, and he eventually committed. So in a way, the term “died from a broken heart” that was used for Gusteau’s death, was really just a kids movie-friendly cover up for suicide. ..Yeah. Wish I didn’t know it either.

    • @yqya
      @yqya 2 роки тому +135

      I loved this movie, and I thought it was brilliant if this was the case, but after rewatching specific scenes of the movie, I am confident this is not the case.
      Firstly, the setting is different. The most noteworthy difference of the two houses is that there is a pipe attached to the wall next to the stove in Ego's flashback. It was not there is the first house. This would have to be a major remodel for those two houses to be the same.
      Secondly, the ages do not match up. In the very beginning of the movie, there was an intro on the life of Gusteau, and Ego's scathing review of his book. Usually one does not review a book after it has been out for decades... But lets that unlikely scenario is true. Then you have to consider that Ego was considered France's top food critic, and gave his scathing review of Gusteau's to remove one of his stars. That would mean that the youngest that Ego could possibly be is in his early to mid 40's (bit of guesswork, but considering he also has quite a bit of white hair, and wrinkles, I doubt he is younger by too much if at all). Ego's flashback was when he was around 10 years old. At minimum the book would have had to be written 30+ years ago. Gusteau would need quite a bit of training to get to the level he has gotten to, and then open his restaurant, and then write a book. So the youngest Gusteau could possibly be is around 60 years old when he published the book. All those pictures of Gusteau in his office, tv appearances were of a much younger man. I grant you, its possible that he died at the age of ~65+ year old, but it just does not seem likely.
      Lastly, I just don't think that its likely that Ego would have made a harsh criticism of the book if it was the one his mother uses for her recipes. He would've seen it around the house and whatnot.
      I prefer your theory but I just think it is very unlikely. Shame if you ask me, because I thought it would've been perfect. That lady may have been his mother, but she moved if she is. I also don't think that the book is that old for it to have been part of Ego's childhood.

Those industrial dishwashers are first of all scalding hot, and secondly have a lot of very dangerous chemicals in them like concentrated bleach. It would at the very least injur the rats too much for them to work, but i guess it would sanitize them for the most part. I’ve noticed something, I’ve started laughing at funny shit again! Years ago I was afraid to laugh because my step dad had anger management issues and would yell at me( he got over them and we cool now) but back then I would always hold in my laughter but I think watching this guy has unlocked my my laughter again

    I've always loved this movie and am glad you decided to cover it. I will say one thing I never understood is why, when Remy is revealed to be the chef, every employee just walks out. After Linguini's short explanation and demonstration I would have been like "That's freaking epic! Let's cook!"

    I'm so happy you are covering this movie! The one film i greatly enjoy , but could never finish. ( Not the best gf at the time hated the movie and I'm always reminded of her every time i went to rewatch it)
