Good evening from New England.. Eugene is the Cliff Burton of this era but the entire band has talent for miles and Roman is such an underrated guitarist it's a shame he doesn't get more recognition....I saw Jinjer a yr. and a half ago at the legendary club Toad's Place in New Haven Connecticut It holds 6 or 7 hundred pll and they simply destroyed that room...Seeing Eugene stage left holding it all together was such a treat ✌️🤘🧐👌

In a word, the difference is Vlad. Period. Jinjer "became" Jinjer when Vlad joined. That was 2016.

This is not among my top 10 favourite Jinjer tracks, but it's a good one for sure. It gives me shivers when Tatiana speaks the last line "Memories of fear and dread, deeply sealed…". Ooof, so powerful.

I don't think I've ever heard Tati do a run before. She nailed it. But, of course she did.
Roman's guitar tone has always been one of my favorite things about this band.
On the bright side, if you do start a fight with no one, you're sure to win.

This was from their Micro EP which was their first set of recordings with their current lineup. Same EP that had Perennial, Ape, and Teacher Teacher on it.

Very theatrical song. If you read the lyrics while listening, you can see everything that is happening. With clean vocals when the child is crying, and then blast beat section, ready well done. But also really dark

Had to make a comment on this one mate, as you know that jinjer is my top band. Glad you liked this one as it is one my favourite songs by them. Oh by the way there are a couple of lines near the end which Tati used again on the retrospection song , the song and lyrics are quite haunting, that is why I love this one. 🤘

I can't seem to get my brain to find any sort of musical groove or tempo with these more complex Jinjer songs, so unfortunately I usually end up hearing mostly noise (that's on me, not them). But I absolutely adored your personality in this one. It was a treat watching you enjoy it so much.

Thank you for the lovely comment, Chrystal. I'm gradually getting less uncomfortable on camera as time goes on so I guess my true personality is peaking through a little more nowadays. And because of that, your comment means that much more. ☺️🤘

Yeah cuz....the evolution of these guys is astonishing....followed
many bands over the years....and none have made this kind of exponential progress....btw the boys do a playthrough of this sans tati that is insane...as usual your observations are enlightening.....peace.....

I've been wanting to see you hear and analyze this song for a long time. This live version is so incredible, but the studio version is so damn intense. After 2 years, I still can't quite figure out the riffs. And you are so right - Roman's guitar tone!!! Even better on the studio track. Probably their most intense tune, without even mentioning the lyrics.

Another great reaction. I think that Micro was really where Jinjer started to hone in are their sound - I'm pretty sure that's when Vlad joined. This song was a tough one for me to get into for awhile. Until I saw a playthrough by Vlad, Eugene and Roman for Zildjian symbols, I believe. I watched that 3 or 4 times and in not only transformed this song, but much of Jinjer for me ever since. Those 3 really are brilliant together.
Also - really, really enjoyed this particular reaction - it almost felt like you were in the room just talking as friends. Also wanted to say thanks - your insight on other videos has really amped up my musical appreciation in general.

You talk about "not being that guy..." and I get that totally. When we saw Jinjer last fall - I'm a quiet person who doesn't dance or go crazy, and somewhat older than you - I lost myself. I have listened to 'everything' genre-wise and tend towards unusual music, but never much metal. But at the Jinjer concert I found myself shouting out lyrics I didn't even realize that I knew, with tears literally seeping from eyes at moments. I swear everyone in the crowd was the same. The intensity and emotions of that concert was unlike any I've ever been too. It kind of unnerved me, because that's an expectation you never want to put on a performance.

I hadn't heard of this track till your reaction and DAMN is it great! What a deep resevoir of interesting progressions and interplays Jinjer has. It's even more of a joy to share it with you and be amazed together.

I completely agree with you on the part about moving at concerts. I actually felt kind of bad for the Tati and the boys when I saw them 3 weeks ago (which I traveled 7 hours by car for, worth it would travel 14 hours next time) because the crowd was fucking L A M E. I was going fucking nuts, especially when they played the heavier parts of sleep of the righteous and home back. Man the chugs are great live on sleep of the righteous. If there's one song I could wish for it'd be this or pausing death, but the setlist was great overall.

I really like that Micro and Macro mirror each other in interesting ways, like this song sharing lyrical and melodic concepts towards the end with Retrospection. A lot of bands do concept albums, but that concept rarely involves something as complex as two songs on albums released 10 months apart sharing lyrical elements and being pretty close compositional inversions of each other. I don't think it's uniformly successful, but I find it intensely interesting. Even more so because those albums feature some of their biggest songs (Teacher, Teacher, Perennial, Pit of Consciousness, On the Top) and some of their odder experiments (Judgement & Punishment, Ape, The Prophecy). There's songs on those albums that are big crowd pleasers, and then there's ones that would feel right at home on a BTBAM album slapping you in the face and demanding that you listen for the technicality and details.

You also have to do the bass playthrough version, especially the last section with him going up and down. Not a reaction but just because it's so fucking good of a bass track.

I think some of their humongous sound with only two instruments is simply Eugene's bass tone and his place in the mix. Much as I love Dream Theater, and as good as John Myung is, he's always buried way down low in the mix, just strictly support. Even when he has bass solos like in Dance of Eternity, he doesn't come up to the level (in the mix) that Eugene has all the time. Add in a very low, muddy sound, and you can barely even hear what he's playing, even in a solo!
Eugene on the other hand uses a bass tone setup more along the lines of someone like Fieldy or Flea, with lots of low, _and_ lots of highs for that percussive element with string clicks and crisp onsets, and the mids scooped out a little, yet still present.
Add in that Roman is generally in something like drop-A or even lower, and that that gorgeous Venus of his can handle it like a boss, giving him tons of low extension as well, and the fact that Jinjer is a dark band, focusing mostly on lows and mids, with highs covered by a combination of Vlad's cymbals, Eugene's clicks, and Tati's screams, and they can present an enormous wall of sound despite being a three-piece (plus vocals).
Compare to Dream Theater, where Petrucci mostly covers a mid-high tone for his solo work, Myung uses a very low, fuzzy, muddy bass tone a lot of the time that adds nothing but support (and when he's on the upper strings he's almost always mirroring Petrucci to give their sound what bigness it does have), and that mostly leaves Rudess to cover the mids. Not that they can't sound big when they want to, but even with one extra person on an even more versatile instrument, I rarely feel like their sound is as gigantic as Jinjer's.
Metallica, too, the bass is usually pretty low in the mix, just there to support the low-end, where Jinjer is almost like a bass-led band, with Eugene providing both melodic and rhythmic foundations that Roman can then play around and above, or match on his own low-end for the biggest, heaviest moments.

One of the few Jinjer songs where the lyrics didn't come from Tati. Eugene was the primary lyric writer for "Dreadful Moments". I know you lean in to instrumentation (I've seen many of your videos, you're a bit of a broken record there out of necessity) but I think it's a cool little tidbit about this song.
