    Man, the observations that you do in ALL Metallica songs that you hear for the first time are just insane, correct and extremely necessary. Even many of us who have been listening to Metallica for many, many years don't realize a lot of the things you say on your REAL reactions. UA-cam is full of mean people who throw negative comments or bad response on everything without even analyzing the whole scene. You're not this kind of man. That's why you're one of the best people in this reaction thing on the entire UA-cam. You dive into the instrumentals, the riffs, the lyrics and everything giving your audience a full experience along with you while we also learn or see things that we don't realized until you say about it, I only wish you channel grows more, more and more, you really deserve it. I love your reactions, it's a pleasure to watch your content because you always take good things out of everything you watch. Metallica killed with this one track!

    I think this song reflects trouble James had with alcohol. And constant temptation to fall of the wagon.

      From what I read, it was Kirk's relationship with his father, but don't quote me on it for sure,but the album reflects on the bands first 17 Seasons, withch would be James ,Lars,and Kirk

    Out of all the reactions I've seen about this song. I enjoy this greatly. A few reactions I see are just entitled metalheads that are just bashing Metallica because it's the cool thing to do.
    I'm a lifelong Metallica fan, and yes. The first 5 albums are pure perfection and nothing will compare. But, I love their recent stuff as well. Because I don't condemn the new stuff for not sounding like their old stuff. I'd be bored by now if they attempted the same shit from over 40 YEARS AGO.
    Your reaction is pure, unadulterated enjoyment of music. And THAT'S THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.
    The fact that these guys are still giving us music, GOOD MUSIC, is insane. We should only be appreciative at this point.

    Some reactors seem to focus on the fact that they aren't playing like they did pre Black Album. Boring riffs, lazy lyrics, poor production. News flash. They aren't the same band circa 1990. New band members. New producers. New influences. I feel that with these three songs metallica is having fun playing music all while James wears his heart on his sleeve. If this is his form of therapy and rehab then it should be applauded. All I know is that I've been a fan of theirs since just before ...And Justice For All. They don't always hit home runs. They put out the music and if you like it, great. Millions still go to their shows and buy their albums. They must be doing something right. I for one am along for the ride and am glad you are too.

    What it do Dave!?! Lol. The guys In MetallicA are over 60. And still amaze new fans all around the world. Though losing some die hards because they expect something else from their band. I'm one of em' but I respect the fact they don't like staying the same, and want to make new fans. That's what the business is about! That's how you stay relevant.

    Another great reaction, Dave! Your observations are impressive.
    I’ve only heard this song a few times, wasn’t sure what I thought of it. But after a few Hetfield comments and now your breakdown, it makes much more sense. The “temptation” repetition was kinda annoying but….I think it’s supposed to be. Temptation…is…annoying. Especially when you consider that the songwriter has struggled with substance temptation issues mightily for much of his life. God I love this band!
    Keep up the great work Dave!

Cuz this GD be last album cuz they're at 60 and if they tour like they do 3/4years. Next album won't be till 2030 then they be almost 70. Respect Metallica cuz one day new music will stop..

    Probably if I tell my opinion, I'll feel what the hate is...
    So I think that these three new songs are one of the worst songs created by Metallica ever.
    Avarege, weak riffs repeated WAY TOO MUCH times.
    Kirk's solos on this album are pure CRAP - they are ordinary mess without any new licks, new wave of creativity, nothing interesting, I can't say: "Hey, that was amazing, I didn't experct that!".
    "If Darkness Had a Son" is 7 min long only bcoz milion repeats, not bcoz of some cool transitions as 3 decades ago.
    When they were 20 they created such a masterpiece as "Fade to Black". They were incomparably better musicans than now. How is that even possible?!

  • @joshuamasserant8215
    @joshuamasserant8215 Рік тому

    This was actually a song from St Anger, it was called Temptation that never made it on the album. They reworked it and its Darkness Had A Son now. Out of all the new songs they said the made they choose to use that one, yikes.
    I can add Darkness Had A Son to the short list of MetallicA songs I don't like and of course the follow the leader train of people all over say it is the best of the three singles. 😂😂 its worse than any of the lower grade songs from Hardwired. The vocals and music both sound so weird and they don't even match the flow of the song. I listened to it three times and I think it sounded worse each time.
    1. Screaming Suicide 10/10
    2. Lux Aeterna 10/10
    3. If Darkness Had A Son 6/10

    I love Metallica fince 90s, but this solo is trash. Kirk need to get serious. His only job is to provide solos, it sounded like bad improvisation

    • @whatitdodave
      @whatitdodave  Рік тому +6

      What did you think of how I interpreted it? I understand sonically it may sound bad to some, but what if the solo was trying to tell a story.
      It’s like missing out on a great story because you didn’t like the voice of the one telling it. Which is valid, I’m just offering another way to look at it.
