$`129.99 For almost nothing but digital crap. When I bought the Resident Evil 4 Collector's Edition it came with a Map, A statue of the main character, an Artbook and a few other things that weren't Digital. Also that Artbook now sells on ebay for $250 and the statue goes for almost $1000. So I got my money back in spades.
Right? I’m strongly considering the Elden Ring DLC collector’s edition because it has real stuff. The statue looks awesome. But a DIGITAL deluxe? Miss me with that scam

There is only 1 game company I will buy games from in day 1 and that is fromsoft. Every other single player game I wait till I can pick them up for a quarter of the price and fixed bugs. Why anyone would pay £130 to be a tester I'll never know 🤦♂️
@@jamo7303 Wow, I had the same thoughts as well! Never cared for the $60 pricing and ESPECIALLY didn't care when it went up to $70 dollars. Frankly thanks to a BACKLOG I can wait out for sales and I have a SET LIMIT I imposed myself on games in a year I'm WILLING to shell out (so far this year, Unicorn overlord and Class of Heroes 2G is the only ones I bought at full price though in the latter case it was on sale upon launch and I used my gold coins to lower it to $15 since the sale dropped it to $17.99 and this is buying the game seperate which makes it 19.99 for each one! For the Former, that was ONLY made because I got to play the demo which was the full game and it removed my fears of "bugs/crashes" as I was buying it for my Switch! Frankly if I got more Full Game Demo's for Switch releases, I'd feel more calm about buying them as then I KNOW I'm not paying alot to be a BUG TESTER and helps the game was GOOD as I imagine it to be that makes it worth the purchese) once I hit the limit, I can only buy OTHER games I want ON SALE (Decent sales) I jokingly called the full price tag the "FIRST Tax" after those idiots in the comment section who like to comment "FIRST" because many feel like they want the game simply to say "they got it on day 1" for the attention (Like ALOT of the Call of Duty games. Modern Warfare 2 ORIGINAL is what made me think this as my mother got it for my idiot brother and had to wait in line for it in the cold, and the goblin beat it in a few hours which pissed her off! I told her to leave it to me in the future as I got REALLY good at getting games on sale and cheaper then paying that "$50/$60" I also use rules for my purchases. 1st off, the "limited full price game" rule I mentioned. The 2nd rule is any game that gets delayed is worthy a worry, second delay is a dealbreaker if I DID pre-order it, and a third delay means that shit is coming out broken! Rarely have I been WRONG on this. And my 3rd rule of note, is pay the price of broken for the price of a broken game! If they want me to be a bug tester, then I will take my compensation from the amount of money I DIDN'T pay into said game! If a game has a game breaking bug, then that's about $10-$15 even $20 dollars taken off of the final price for me, even if a patch removes the bug, the fact it's THERE means if I bought the game physical, then if I EVER uninstall the game and can't download the patch, then that game is NEAR useless to play now! I'm more incline to buy the game DIGITAL ONLY and ONLY on a sale that lowers it at or BELOW the "final pricing" I set after taking those things into mind. At the very least it's good I have some GOOD review sources like SwitchUp for Switch games as an example to WARN ME of this shit ahead of time to make my choices more clear. I will NEVER buy those 100 dollar Special Editions, NEVER even if the stuff is good (I remember when art books and such were FREE if you pre-ordered as I remember the book I got for Fire Emblem Awakening after getting it Day 1 as I do ALL Fire Emblems, now they want MONEY, I say fuck that noise) for those games, I truly call it the "Swag Tax" where the companies are now targeting the SWAG lovers who they use to give the Swag to them for FREE but are now targeting them for sales. Except at least SOME make the Swag worth it! Those like THIS abomination are exploiting people and it's not even swag, it's taking IN-GAME stuff that should have been in the game (A SINGLE PLAYER GAME AT THAT) and asking you to pay. No thanks pal (If I DO buy that stuff, I usually wait for a MEGA sale as they get desperate to get SOME money out of it, even if their willing to drop it from $30 dollars to $5-8 dollars! At that point I strike, meaning I saved myself money and heartbreak WASTING money on something that SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRICED IN THOSE RANGES instead of costing HALF as much for a GAME!)
I hear you on the endlessly replayables. “Live-Service” has become a dirty word, but then again I have a few hundred hours clocked in Rocket League. It just never gets boring!
@@gregowen2022 That's because Rocket League was designed like that. Most live service games are just normal games w/ the live service retention models tacked on. WOW and Destiny are excellent examples of game design that was built around extended engagement that aren't simply match games like dota and rocket league. Suicide squad was clearly designed to be like borderlands w/ DC characters. The live service menu placed on top awkwardly divides up the game so the world feels disjointed. Rather than regular story progression you get mindlessly repeatable objectives that aren't fun because there's no compelling reason for the game to have those characteristics because live service games are made in the C-Suite.
@@NateLawful I remember all the content creators and community of D1 saying if it was every P2W, the community would revolt and people would not want a drip fed constantly paying just to be able to play the game. Lo and behold D2 became a season pass that gave next to nothing and you had sunk costs to keep going, then if you wanted to unlock everything in the season day 1, you could just pay a little extra and have everything right away. "But that's not technically pay 2 win" cried some content creators, but they were so far down the sunk costs fallacy that it really didn't matter what D2 did to them, they'd continue to buy it. I remember playing it on a free trial basis, then they offered it again recently, so I checked in. The entire base game is deleted because the story moved on so those missions, strikes, etc, are just all gone now. "the Male gaze" thing never made much sense, but it makes even less sense when those same people are fine with hot fit men running around shirtless in their movies/games. Rarely do you see them make the men ugly either unless it's to insult some one.
The same people that hate if you find an attractive woman attractive would bristle if you told them they were beautiful "like Lizzo" since she thinks she is the beauty standard. They also had no problem with a naked John Cena on stage at that awards show.
They’re essentially saying women can’t ever be as good as men, since they make women ugly and men attractive. They say they aren’t sexist, but… They kinda are, man.

Ubisoft is a company beyond repair. To list a fraction of the problems: Ubisoft Connect, bad launch sate, bad game design, obsession on shallow openworld, obsession on "realism" over gameplay, woke politics, ugly characters, unforgivable microtransaction, uninspired devs, greedy higher-ups, so on and so on. I played upwards of 10+ games from Ubisoft and only one of them was mildly playable. Hell, they even managed to destroy some of my favorite franchises just by purchasing the rights to them (like Heroes of Might and Magic).
AC2 and Brotherhood are masterpieces, FC3/4/5 are all very good, but yeah recently they've been focusing so much on game "as a service" that all their games are infected and the design suffer. They're not the only one, any AAA game nowadays is crap, outside of CDPR which still focus on player experience (for how long who knows)
My decision to hold off on buying new games and wait for things to recorrect seems to be paying off. On my 2nd playthrough of RDR2 and nothing in the last 5 years that I've seen is in the same stratosphere as this game. I was a Star Wars nerd growing up, had the books and novels, I could tell you which blasters were on each ship, and somehow Disney and the like have managed to erase ALL interest I once had in this amazing franchise. Burn in Hell.
I remember when Mass Effect 3 had a day one DLC back in 2012 and people were up in arms about it. Hard to believe that 12 years later Ubisoft is dumb enough to continue this Greedy practice.
Ah yes, Javik. My brother actually went thru the whole game without that DLC, had no idea it was even available lol And when ME3 botched the ending, the "hey we got DLCs coming, stay tuned" rubbed us ALL the wrong way.

@im3phirebird81 Ubisoft has a very bad habit of reusing assets, and not in a good way either, as well as having bland gameplay loops and lately, not great writing. True. I’m playing Champions of Norrath:Return to Arms right now. If I let the game idle, my character starts encouraging me to take them somewhere. Or complains about getting bored.
Remember when the "golden guns" that Randy/Gearbox promised you could ONLY get if you pre-ordered Borderlands 2? And 1 year later the golden guns ended up as some tiny extra DLC. I did think this was odd. Then i preordered Aliens Colonial Marines. I guess i learned the lesson the hard way.
When I first saw that price, I literally just laughed. I had just paid $100 for Mortal Kombat, that I’m current still waiting for my DLC characters and addition content ….
Day 1 preorder bonuses were not great, but at least they used to almost always be free. Preorder Arkahm City and play as a Catwoman! Now it would be pay a $30 fee to play as Catwoman 3 days early, plus...a new Bat Suit!
EVE in Stellar Blade absolutely DOES have idle animations, so that's a flat out lie. Most of them are very subtle, but there are also occasional much more active animations. She sometimes will turn her head to look at the camera, she will shift her weight back and forth, and she does this seriously cute stretching animation, and there may be others I haven't seen (you know, because most of us don't just sit there and stare at her doing basically nothing.. it's a game about combat, after all).

More like, I openly hurled, at the prospect of trudging through another empty featureless map following waypoints which will take me to a tower to climb which unlocks a bunch of icons that i can go to which will become resources for me to spend making my character able to survive bullet the sponge enemies in the next section of the empty featureless map in which i will find another waypoint which will take me to a tower to climb which unlocks a bunch of icons...
This is the exact reason that Remnant 2 (which I cannot recommend enough) is my favorite game. The base game was only $50, and the two “better” versions were only $10 more each, with the $70 one having 3 FUTURE dlc included, ultimately saving the buyer $10. Anyone who reads this should absolutely play the Remnant series (it’s dark souls with guns).

Agreed, that article was insane. And I agree on the waiting. Plus, most of us have so much backlog, waiting isn’t that painful anyway. It’s pretty rare that I honestly feel like I NEED a game on day 1. They’re almost always better after a few patches anyway
Shadows of Doubt is a mind blowing indie game. It’s a 1970s cyberpunk inspired city. You’re a PI. You take on cases, and investigate serial killers. The twist? Every person in the city actually goes about their daily lives. A killer goes has to go to a gun seller to buy a gun, then they hunt down their victim. Sometimes you’ll even happen upon a murder in progress. It’s the best Detective game ever created. The number of times I’ve busted down someone’s door to arrest them only to find I’d deduced the entirely wrong culprit is embarrassing

Maybe not quite what you had in mind, but I started Warframe a few months ago. It still has some of the scummy business practices you covered (although they look like saints when you compare them to their closest competition like Diablo or Destiny), but it also doesn't require an initial purchase and it regularly releases updates that introduce more new stuff into the game than just about any modern DLC or expansion that you'd have to spend money on in other games. There's also an internal market system that allows the player to make the currency that you can spend real world money on. I ended up buying some of the premium currency not because I needed it, but because I got enough enjoyment out of the game that I figured I'd like to support their studio. If you're looking for a new spreadsheet simulator, it's probably one of the less predatory ones out there at the moment.
I don’t know what they are up to these days, but I played Warframe a few years ago and absolutely loved it. Yes, they do sell frames that give you an edge, but I never felt the game was designed to frustrate me into buying an upgrade, like Diablo Immoral. Same as you, I bought a $20 frame or something because after a couple dozen hours of good gaming, I felt like I wanted to support their work.

Other companies are also very guilty of this trend.. such as IOI (Hitman 1, 2 and 3). Those games are single player, yet they are UNPLAYABLE without internet connection.. so when IOI shuts those servers down.. there goes 3 beautifully crafted video games that are extraordinarily fun, for good. You cannot play any of those 3 titles without internet, no scoring, no points system, no replayability whatsoever without internet connection. I am waiting for them to announce the HitMan servers being shut down, because at a hefty orice tag of over $240 for all 3 games (purchased individually over time), there is going to be some major backlash. Try playing Hitman 3 with your internet turned off, and see how much 'fun' it is.. Ubisoft is pure garbage but they are far from the only company partaking in this new "own nothing and be happy" perspective on game development..
You know what makes me mad, they could have just made a Han Solo game, people would have bought it without a second thought, but they had to make it weird

2) No games that require an internet connection, I don't play MMO's or competitive games.
3) No Ubisoft
4) No third-party launchers.
I only buy games on sale on steam. I refuse to buy full price games. I can wait years for the price to come down and get the bugs out ..
Then maybe.
Winning game plan.
@@zzbudzzYES! Me too. 50% is typically good enough for me.

One of the best statements I've heard on the internet all year, and I wish I knew who I got it from so I can give them credit:
"If buying isn't owning, then pirating isn't stealing."
Damn. That is a solid line
Why would you want to pirate toxic garbage? If a game isn't worth a full price, it isn't worth my time.
LOL i love this! soo true!
Sounds like a Louis Rossman
Gamers should get used to not owning their games and Ubisoft should get used to my closed wallet.
I can't get over that derpface - every time I see it, Team America flashes in my brain and I hear a voice saying "Matt Damon!"
I wish they’d just show us someone that actually looks like that. Mick Jagger is the closest human that lived.
@@gregowen2022 That's PEAK greed coming from the Desperate Suits wanting to take advantage of Whales with more money then sense! Hope this game doesn't get anyone buying that 129 dollar crap so it discourages them from wasting the time and resources pushing them abit (or at least leans them to something like the RE4 Collector's Edition! Though I think that ANGERS them that WE the customer profit off of likely CHEAP crap they wasted to try and squeeze more out of us customers....just for us to sale it on Ebay and such for WAY more that they'll never see a dime of LOL)
I bought a Metro Exodus standard edition on disc and got a map and postcards and such. When I bought Cyberpunk Standard Edition on disc I got similar items.
Frankly if I got more Full Game Demo's for Switch releases, I'd feel more calm about buying them as then I KNOW I'm not paying alot to be a BUG TESTER and helps the game was GOOD as I imagine it to be that makes it worth the purchese) once I hit the limit, I can only buy OTHER games I want ON SALE (Decent sales)
I jokingly called the full price tag the "FIRST Tax" after those idiots in the comment section who like to comment "FIRST" because many feel like they want the game simply to say "they got it on day 1" for the attention (Like ALOT of the Call of Duty games. Modern Warfare 2 ORIGINAL is what made me think this as my mother got it for my idiot brother and had to wait in line for it in the cold, and the goblin beat it in a few hours which pissed her off! I told her to leave it to me in the future as I got REALLY good at getting games on sale and cheaper then paying that "$50/$60"
I also use rules for my purchases.
Larian calling out the industry paywall was a Chad move. They will remain legend for it
Now if they could just release a good game I'd be all in for larian. But alas, buggy gate 3 was the best they could manage.
I paid full price for Dota 2 and it was the best $0 I ever spent. 3,000 hours and still going strong.
I hear you on the endlessly replayables. “Live-Service” has become a dirty word, but then again I have a few hundred hours clocked in Rocket League. It just never gets boring!
Path of exile the greatest game ever made cost me zero also
@@gregowen2022 That's because Rocket League was designed like that.
Ubisoft is a company beyond repair.
Fact is developing a big title takes a lot longer than it used to, and that involves a lot of hours of work by a lot of people. You are not getting less by any means. Compare like the first tomb raider game to a modern comparable game or the first GTA to the one getting released soon. You can't imagine how much it takes to just make the map and fill it with life so modern gamers feel properly immersed. Then add how many modern gamers are putting up insane hours in new games (100 per month?) and then say the games lack content. You are not getting less. Not by far. @im3phirebird81 Ubisoft has a very bad habit of reusing assets, and not in a good way either, as well as having bland gameplay loops and lately, not great writing.

You should do a video of the sims 4 dlc. They charge you the price of a full game for a pack of features that either should have been in base game or been given in a patch. And many of the packs are based off popular mods, sometimes one-to-one copies.

I appreciate seeing some Warframe LOVE😭💯🔥. About to hop onto it again after YEARS. Not only is there business practices consumer friendly its the most UNtoxic community on the internet I have EVER seen. Which says SOOO MUCH considering its a MULTIPLAYER game😭
They dont "sell" you frames everything in game is tradable including their premium currency and every frame is farmable u can vet everything without spending a dime , they do get their money from prime access and only ppl who wanna support buy those as u van also grind the primes in the game the only thing u would have to out money in is playerade skins or tennogen skins how they call it but no warframe has an "edge" @@gregowen2022
I've been here for about a decade. Have my raspberry pie for ALL the classics, and I wait for "new" games until they are practically giving them away. I was tired of getting ripped off. Patience makes gaming cheap, and by the time I buy? Bugs are long since worked out and I know if it's going to thrive online.
Greg, you have quickly become my favorite UA-camr mate!
All your dedicated research and focus has paid off with the quality of your output allied to your razor sharp, incisive wit.
In this current age of pandering, and comically bad content(incontinent) providers its reassuring to come across someone who actually gives a shit, and can both entertain and educate concurrently.
Bravo Good Sir...onwards to a million subs i trust.
Thank you
Okay I’m new to this channel and you magically making my like button glow when you hit the coin block deserves a like I enjoy your vids so I’m subbing
I'm glad you're here!
I've seen a lot of games that you can get via monthly subscription and I refuse.
Either make it ftp and I buy cosmetics or upgrades or make it a one time purchase. Anything else is not happening.
Those graphics look like a $10 indie game
You know what makes me mad, they could have just made a Han Solo game, people would have bought it without a second thought, but they had to make it weird
Damn EA has dalen off. They need to up their game
I only buy games that released couple years ago. You get them for fraction of the cost, bug free and weed out garbage that AAA publishers are pumping out. Sad to see what's gaming industry has come to.
