Ubisoft needs to get comfortable with not owning my money
Real
Microsoft Activision and EA too
Sony comes there too
Lol, they already have your money, so what's your point again?
@@kiillabytez how if we dont buy their shit they call an game?
The last game i got from Ubisoft was Armored core for answer
And its old
I paid full price for Dota 2 and it was the best $0 I ever spent. 3,000 hours and still going strong.
I hear you on the endlessly replayables. “Live-Service” has become a dirty word, but then again I have a few hundred hours clocked in Rocket League. It just never gets boring!
Path of exile the greatest game ever made cost me zero also
6000+ in Destiny 2, spent over AU$500 and don't regret a cent spent. But in the end D2 became so boring, its content became stale. I would list the things that are wrong with D2, but it would be too long. The things that were good about is a long list too. Bungie are an awful company, but I don't care about that stuff as long as the gameplay and content is good. The content for D2 just became meh. For me quitting D2 is the end of 'live service games,' the time investment is too much, that's on me, but also on the style of game.
I have 30 single player games loaded and ready to go on my PC. Some of them have extensive modding adding an extra thousand hours to a hundred-hour game. The thing about the games I am going to play now, I can leave them for twelve months and will not be punished for doing so. If you don't play a game like D2 for 12 months you will have to spend a huge number of hours grinding your power level up, plus some content/story will no longer be available for you to play.
@@RabbiRabbit87 So you've given nothing back to Grinding Gears Games the devs of Path of Exile. I loathe people like you, you should support the devs of the game you love. Luckily for you there are people who play POE who support Grinding Gears Games financially, so misers like you have a game to play. I think you need to take a close look at yourself.
@@gregowen2022 That's because Rocket League was designed like that. Most live service games are just normal games w/ the live service retention models tacked on. WOW and Destiny are excellent examples of game design that was built around extended engagement that aren't simply match games like dota and rocket league.
Suicide squad was clearly designed to be like borderlands w/ DC characters. The live service menu placed on top awkwardly divides up the game so the world feels disjointed. Rather than regular story progression you get mindlessly repeatable objectives that aren't fun because there's no compelling reason for the game to have those characteristics because live service games are made in the C-Suite.

The really sad part is that even if the game is good, they've already tanked its reputation.
No worries there, this is not going to be a good game.
Why would that be sad anyway. These wokester rip off artists brought this upon themselves. I hope they lose millions on this nonsense. Hope it’s an example to the rest of the industry that gamers are not taking this bs anymore.
These people hate their customers.

"the Male gaze" thing never made much sense, but it makes even less sense when those same people are fine with hot fit men running around shirtless in their movies/games. Rarely do you see them make the men ugly either unless it's to insult some one.
The same people that hate if you find an attractive woman attractive would bristle if you told them they were beautiful "like Lizzo" since she thinks she is the beauty standard. They also had no problem with a naked John Cena on stage at that awards show.

One of the best statements I've heard on the internet all year, and I wish I knew who I got it from so I can give them credit:
"If buying isn't owning, then pirating isn't stealing."
Damn. That is a solid line
Why would you want to pirate toxic garbage? If a game isn't worth a full price, it isn't worth my time.
LOL i love this! soo true!

Gamers should get used to not owning their games and Ubisoft should get used to my closed wallet.
I showed my buddy the picture of the lady they used for the protagonist's model, his knee-jerk reaction was "Oh she's so pretty, why can't we play as her instead?"
I remember when Mass Effect 3 had a day one DLC back in 2012 and people were up in arms about it.
Hard to believe that 12 years later Ubisoft is dumb enough to continue this Greedy practice.
Ah yes, Javik. My brother actually went thru the whole game without that DLC, had no idea it was even available lol
And when ME3 botched the ending, the "hey we got DLCs coming, stay tuned" rubbed us ALL the wrong way.

$`129.99 For almost nothing but digital crap. When I bought the Resident Evil 4 Collector's Edition it came with a Map, A statue of the main character, an Artbook and a few other things that weren't Digital. Also that Artbook now sells on ebay for $250 and the statue goes for almost $1000. So I got my money back in spades.
Right? I’m strongly considering the Elden Ring DLC collector’s edition because it has real stuff. The statue looks awesome.
But a DIGITAL deluxe? Miss me with that scam
@@gregowen2022 That's PEAK greed coming from the Desperate Suits wanting to take advantage of Whales with more money then sense! Hope this game doesn't get anyone buying that 129 dollar crap so it discourages them from wasting the time and resources pushing them abit (or at least leans them to something like the RE4 Collector's Edition! Though I think that ANGERS them that WE the customer profit off of likely CHEAP crap they wasted to try and squeeze more out of us customers....just for us to sale it on Ebay and such for WAY more that they'll never see a dime of LOL)
I bought a Metro Exodus standard edition on disc and got a map and postcards and such. When I bought Cyberpunk Standard Edition on disc I got similar items.
There is only 1 game company I will buy games from in day 1 and that is fromsoft. Every other single player game I wait till I can pick them up for a quarter of the price and fixed bugs. Why anyone would pay £130 to be a tester I'll never know 🤦♂️
@@jamo7303 Wow, I had the same thoughts as well! Never cared for the $60 pricing and ESPECIALLY didn't care when it went up to $70 dollars. Frankly thanks to a BACKLOG I can wait out for sales and I have a SET LIMIT I imposed myself on games in a year I'm WILLING to shell out (so far this year, Unicorn overlord and Class of Heroes 2G is the only ones I bought at full price though in the latter case it was on sale upon launch and I used my gold coins to lower it to $15 since the sale dropped it to $17.99 and this is buying the game seperate which makes it 19.99 for each one! For the Former, that was ONLY made because I got to play the demo which was the full game and it removed my fears of "bugs/crashes" as I was buying it for my Switch! Frankly if I got more Full Game Demo's for Switch releases, I'd feel more calm about buying them as then I KNOW I'm not paying alot to be a BUG TESTER and helps the game was GOOD as I imagine it to be that makes it worth the purchese) once I hit the limit, I can only buy OTHER games I want ON SALE (Decent sales)
I jokingly called the full price tag the "FIRST Tax" after those idiots in the comment section who like to comment "FIRST" because many feel like they want the game simply to say "they got it on day 1" for the attention (Like ALOT of the Call of Duty games. Modern Warfare 2 ORIGINAL is what made me think this as my mother got it for my idiot brother and had to wait in line for it in the cold, and the goblin beat it in a few hours which pissed her off! I told her to leave it to me in the future as I got REALLY good at getting games on sale and cheaper then paying that "$50/$60"
I also use rules for my purchases. 1st off, the "limited full price game" rule I mentioned. The 2nd rule is any game that gets delayed is worthy a worry, second delay is a dealbreaker if I DID pre-order it, and a third delay means that shit is coming out broken! Rarely have I been WRONG on this. And my 3rd rule of note, is pay the price of broken for the price of a broken game! If they want me to be a bug tester, then I will take my compensation from the amount of money I DIDN'T pay into said game! If a game has a game breaking bug, then that's about $10-$15 even $20 dollars taken off of the final price for me, even if a patch removes the bug, the fact it's THERE means if I bought the game physical, then if I EVER uninstall the game and can't download the patch, then that game is NEAR useless to play now! I'm more incline to buy the game DIGITAL ONLY and ONLY on a sale that lowers it at or BELOW the "final pricing" I set after taking those things into mind. At the very least it's good I have some GOOD review sources like SwitchUp for Switch games as an example to WARN ME of this shit ahead of time to make my choices more clear.
I will NEVER buy those 100 dollar Special Editions, NEVER even if the stuff is good (I remember when art books and such were FREE if you pre-ordered as I remember the book I got for Fire Emblem Awakening after getting it Day 1 as I do ALL Fire Emblems, now they want MONEY, I say fuck that noise) for those games, I truly call it the "Swag Tax" where the companies are now targeting the SWAG lovers who they use to give the Swag to them for FREE but are now targeting them for sales. Except at least SOME make the Swag worth it! Those like THIS abomination are exploiting people and it's not even swag, it's taking IN-GAME stuff that should have been in the game (A SINGLE PLAYER GAME AT THAT) and asking you to pay. No thanks pal (If I DO buy that stuff, I usually wait for a MEGA sale as they get desperate to get SOME money out of it, even if their willing to drop it from $30 dollars to $5-8 dollars! At that point I strike, meaning I saved myself money and heartbreak WASTING money on something that SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRICED IN THOSE RANGES instead of costing HALF as much for a GAME!)

A season pass in a single player game is hilarious, they still want it to be a live service
The fact that Geometry dash is only $2.13 where i live is insane. If EA owned it...
I'd highly recommend Slay the Princess as just a short thing. Less than 8 hours long, with astounding music all the way. It has quite literally universal acclaim, I have never met someone who disliked it. The story is absolutely touching, the central conceit is certainly engaging, it's hilarious, it's just a darn good game.
Good story. I don't really consider visual novels "games," though. Not a knock on it, it's a really good video "book."

Hell divers 2 is tapping in to the feels I used to get from old mmo's. It draws me in and the game play is almost as important as the unfolding storyline, expanding universe and the community banter. I wake up every day knowing that something crazy is going to happen. I cant wait till they add clans. Its going to be dope.

Ubisoft is a company beyond repair. To list a fraction of the problems: Ubisoft Connect, bad launch sate, bad game design, obsession on shallow openworld, obsession on "realism" over gameplay, woke politics, ugly characters, unforgivable microtransaction, uninspired devs, greedy higher-ups, so on and so on.
I played upwards of 10+ games from Ubisoft and only one of them was mildly playable. Hell, they even managed to destroy some of my favorite franchises just by purchasing the rights to them (like Heroes of Might and Magic).
AC2 and Brotherhood are masterpieces, FC3/4/5 are all very good, but yeah recently they've been focusing so much on game "as a service" that all their games are infected and the design suffer. They're not the only one, any AAA game nowadays is crap, outside of CDPR which still focus on player experience (for how long who knows)
Why did you keep buying after the first bad one or two?

True. I’m playing Champions of Norrath:Return to Arms right now. If I let the game idle, my character starts encouraging me to take them somewhere. Or complains about getting bored.

We're being charged more now for no disk/cartridge, no manual, no case than we ever have, with all that stuff. Should be WAY less, even with production values, and not on a Steam sale.
You forget that games take a lot longer to make nowadays.
@@im3phirebird81 Length of time making is irrelevant. We are not getting the value and physical things we used to. We are paying more for less.
@@michaelcjgreenway4788 length of time is not irrelevant lol. Let's say your boss asks why you don't work 80 hours a week for the same salary because length of time working is irrelevant. Fact is developing a big title takes a lot longer than it used to, and that involves a lot of hours of work by a lot of people. You are not getting less by any means. Compare like the first tomb raider game to a modern comparable game or the first GTA to the one getting released soon. You can't imagine how much it takes to just make the map and fill it with life so modern gamers feel properly immersed. Then add how many modern gamers are putting up insane hours in new games (100 per month?) and then say the games lack content. You are not getting less. Not by far. You are still getting more by a long shot. That is not the issue. The issue is scummy business practices and shit stories with political agendas everywhere.
@@im3phirebird81 I don't have a disk, case, or booklet to put on my shelf. I got all that for $40 -$60 before. Also, I DO have an idea, having built maps for Unreal Tournament and Jedi Academy, and made a living doing 3D animation. To me, this is like the smaller bag of chips, with mostly air, and a higher price, when you got a bigger, fuller bag before. Paying more for less just isn't justified in either instance. I respect your view and hope you will respect mine from here, since neither of us is competing for who's right or wrong. Agreed?
@im3phirebird81 Ubisoft has a very bad habit of reusing assets, and not in a good way either, as well as having bland gameplay loops and lately, not great writing. I'm not getting more simply because the devs bloat the game with pointless and useless content, and the fact that you're defending this is why the modern gaming companies have become so complacent
I hope AAA continues this path. I saved so much money and time not buying and playing them. We should be thanking them.

Shadows of Doubt is a mind blowing indie game.
It’s a 1970s cyberpunk inspired city.
You’re a PI.
You take on cases, and investigate serial killers.

The number of times I’ve busted down someone’s door to arrest them only to find I’d deduced the entirely wrong culprit is embarrassing
Give it 2 years. if this practice is not stopped, every single company is going to do this. They might even take it a step forward. You spend 70$ just to get the digital file, then have to spend 20$ for the campaign, 20$ for the multiplayer.

Maybe not quite what you had in mind, but I started Warframe a few months ago. It still has some of the scummy business practices you covered (although they look like saints when you compare them to their closest competition like Diablo or Destiny), but it also doesn't require an initial purchase and it regularly releases updates that introduce more new stuff into the game than just about any modern DLC or expansion that you'd have to spend money on in other games. There's also an internal market system that allows the player to make the currency that you can spend real world money on. I ended up buying some of the premium currency not because I needed it, but because I got enough enjoyment out of the game that I figured I'd like to support their studio. If you're looking for a new spreadsheet simulator, it's probably one of the less predatory ones out there at the moment.
I don’t know what they are up to these days, but I played Warframe a few years ago and absolutely loved it. Yes, they do sell frames that give you an edge, but I never felt the game was designed to frustrate me into buying an upgrade, like Diablo Immoral. Same as you, I bought a $20 frame or something because after a couple dozen hours of good gaming, I felt like I wanted to support their work.
I appreciate seeing some Warframe LOVE😭💯🔥. About to hop onto it again after YEARS. Not only is there business practices consumer friendly its the most UNtoxic community on the internet I have EVER seen. Which says SOOO MUCH considering its a MULTIPLAYER game😭

Glad to hear from you dude its been awhile. I should also add I am not exited about the new assassin's creed open world coming out. I love the assassin's creed open world game accept Valhalla. I am expecting the newer open world games to be similar to this Star Wars games. But with Ubi soft I am just done. Allot did not enjoy Far Cry 6 but I actually really enjoyed it but I just don't trust Ubi soft especially since their executive stated he does not want you to own your games. I know allot of people are exited about GTA 6 but I keep cautioning people to have lower expectations about the game because Rock star does do similar tactics to Ubi soft. People also forget that the developer is making the game for modern audiences.
Glad to be back!
If cosmetic mtx cost about 1/10 what they do then I’d probably buy some stuff, but the pricing is completely out of whack for a costume or weapon skin. At max we should be paying $2-$3 for these things, not $10-$20 or more. I like cool outfits but I will never pay these prices in any game. I would think by lowering the price for cosmetics that more people would buy them.
I love The Last Spell. It's a tactic rogue-light with location progression and amazing graphics and soundtrack. 120+ hours - still have not cleared it completely. They started working on their first dlc.

I just started playing mafia, definitive edition, and cannot express enough how good the story is I bought 2 and 3 with no hesitation and have loved them all, it scratches a inch that GTA. Hasn’t delivered upon yet
I got in a reddit argument about Outlaws recently (I know what the hell was I thinking?) and I cited so many of the points you made in this video just in worse language that didn't make the point as well. Super glad to see you putting things into the right perspective in a succinct, well-thought-out, eloquent way. I feel a lot more valid knowing I'm not the only one who feels this way about Day One DLC and the almighty subscription model and damn if this video didn't jog my memory on why Ubisoft is truly one of the worst actors in the industry right now. Super well done.
I was interested in this game but I don't like being forced to play protagonists I don't like, give me a character select, even basic, like in Mass Effect, make me immerse in your world, don't make me feel like I'm just watching an interactive movie.
Yup. Nothing more idiotic than being forced to play a 90 pound girlboss with a face shaped like someone hit it with a car.
… In a primarily male fanbase.
With Ubisoft openly saying, "you don't own your games," anyone who buys from them moving forward is the problem. Be it this game, the new Assassin's creed, everything they produce. Xbox game pass is the only subscription service we have for games and i love it. I rarely have to buy games for my kids to enjoy and my youngest LOVES the side scroller games like the ones you said were awesome.
Greg, I'm on the last stretch of Sea of Stars but...I'm kind of stuck playing that fun Wheels mini-game. Did you ever finish the game?!
Endnight Studios' Sons of the Forest is an amazing game.
The Forest was a great game from several years ago and Sons of the Forest is the sequel. So far they've done tons of free updates and are listening to community suggestions and the game as it is, is very fun and extremely customizable and modifiable.
I recommend Fuga Melodies of Steel and it's 2 sequels, they're announcing the 3rd one this summer and it's probably coming out later this year. It's from CyberConnect2, the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm and DBZ Kakarot developer, and it's part of their Little Tail Bronx series which was started by the first game they made Tail Concerto. It's also got some weird .hack references throughout it which has me kind of hopeful they'll do a spiritual successor to that series in the near future as well.
I'm honestly just glad they're back to making their original IP games again thanks to them starting up their self publishing. There was a good decade where they couldn't get any publisher support for these kinds of games and they've been stuck making only anime games. Granted they're the most popular anime game developer right now so they've earned that reputation, but I've always been more a fan of their original series like .hack and Little Tail Bronx. I'm hoping they continue to make these games going forward.
I mentioned imagery of AI women to an ex coworker at a party last night and he almost peed in fear. Saying Bootylicious will get you fired, cancelled, removed form society, and maybe someone would place an actual booty on your head like they did Grums.
Day 1 preorder bonuses were not great, but at least they used to almost always be free. Preorder Arkahm City and play as a Catwoman! Now it would be pay a $30 fee to play as Catwoman 3 days early, plus...a new Bat Suit!
Recently, i played survival horror game called Signalis, is a recent one from small team of dev.
Also, another survival horror that i've been played before Signalis was Cry of Fear, an old game from 2012 and the best part is, it's free
The beautiful gaming scene we once had was over once the suits stepped, because they saw how much we love this sh!t.
Open world? More like, I openly hurled, at the prospect of trudging through another empty featureless map following waypoints which will take me to a tower to climb which unlocks a bunch of icons that i can go to which will become resources for me to spend making my character able to survive bullet the sponge enemies in the next section of the empty featureless map in which i will find another waypoint which will take me to a tower to climb which unlocks a bunch of icons...
I love you Greg, always a pleasure hearing your perspective on Echo Chamberlain’s stream
Well I would not complain if Eve did a lap dance or something for a idle animation if uncontrolled after 30 or so seconds 😅
