Did you know that an earlier prototype of Game Sack had another dude sitting next to Joe, but they had to get rid of him because he kept saying "titular"?
I totally forgot how good the Revenge of Shinobu music was. Talk about reminiscent! Thanks for reminding me. Now I have to download the soundtrack and hudle in the corner of my room and cry!
I Absolutely love Game Sack, and thanks so much for keeping it going Joe. Game Sack videos are literally what I like to watch when I wake up and go to bed everyday.
"Syurikin" (the "syu" part anyways) is an alternate way of writing. Romanization of Japanese is really tough and there is no perfect system that lets you go back and forth between Roman characters and Japanese. This type is the form taught in elementary and follows Japanese is a bit more of a systematic way. The form we usually see ("Hepburn," which follows pronunciation rather than systematic construction) isn't really taught in Japan until later in school and doesn't get used much except by linguists and foreign Japanese students.
Just some Clarifications on Lion King: You mentioned Stage 2 (infamous Stage 2!) and say that the ostrich randomly disappears when double jumping. This is actually you hitting the hit boxes of one of the nested branches. They play a sound effect so you know you hit it, and when simba comes out, the ostrich is gone because you "hit a branch" but it's terrible collision detection that causes it in the first place.
Thank you so much for continuing to make great content. I'm a gamer at heart but have been homeless living on the street or in the wood. I don't get to play many games these days, but your videos serve as moments of peace for me.
hard to believe that Dave's been gone from Game Sack for almost 2 years now. I still love you, Joe but it certainly doesn't feel the same since Dave left.
This was a great idea for an episode, and the execution was awesome. Definitely keep this in your back pocket, and do a few more prototype vs retail episodes, Joe.
I feel like there may be another version of SF 2 for the Genesis. I remember several magazines showing pics of that game with a large black bar where the energy meters were located. I remember the game was scheduled for release on 6/93 and was pushed back several months.
I honestly find it quite amazing what they were able to accomplish on the 16 Bit systems. It makes me really wish that RAM upgrades were more of a thing, as more RAM would have really expanded what they could have done with some of the games on these systems. They could have produced some truly impressive stuff if both the Genesis and SNES had a RAM upgrade of some kind, maybe one that could have been plugged into the expansion port on each. I see what they did with the RAM expansion on the PC Engine & it really makes me wish for it on the other systems.
RAM was not as important with cart based consoles as it was with a CD based ones. Cart ROM was very fast to access (not too much slower than RAM was at that time), while CDs are horribly slow. Just look at what Neo-Geo did with huge amounts of cart ROM. PC Engine CD and even Turbo Duo initially came with very little RAM, which is why it could really take advantage of all the RAM expansion cards. Sega CD was less affected, because it came with a fairly reasonable 6 Mbit built-in. Mortal Kombat could definitely have used more due to Shan Tsung's morphing ability, which made Sega CD have to load each new morphed character from the CD.
Great job, Joe! Hope to see more of these. I don't know what protos are interesting to talk about, but I'm sure you'll get some good recommendations from others.
Absolutely wonderful video. It's the perfect kind of content. Testing various test builds of games I don't love sounds boring. You obviously had passion for a few of them. It made for a great video
The beta of Pokémon Gold and the recently dumped prototype of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are some of the more prominent ones in recent memory that you should definitely cover. Both of those games have a lot of stuff to look at.
7:38: The guy on the left is Dr Amigo. The Hyper-Real Dare-to-Compare Turbo Comparison Screen really works! Thanks Game Sack! - Non-paid actor testimonial.
I like how many games have the ability to use invincibility. When I was a tester (many years ago), I do not remember a single game that had that. It would have been nice. I got clobbered in Centipede for the PlayStation and Dreamcast until I got good enough to actually complete it. Aladdin was one of my favorites on the Genesis. I am really looking forward to it being released on the Nintendo Switch. I still find it weird to see Sega’s logo anywhere near Nintendo’s and it has been 18 years.
Keep up the great work, I love the little details you've put in the video. Beta's are always interesting to see, I can imagine how you can just sit down and search for differences. I have a QA background myself and I love to see how games can develop nowdays, but nothing is better to see beta's of those games I played when I was 10 myself.
wasn't there another ver of SF2 for the Genesis? i remember seeing the black bar on top where the gauge sits. I think that's what EGM was talking about
@@ultimateman55 Also, I remember the promotional VHS for Turbo on SNES had a section at the end where it showed the Japan commercials for the game. I also remember a few seconds of footage from that genesis prototype with the black bar behind the name plates. Had M Bison doing a Flaming Torpedo to whoever on Dhalsim's stage, if I remember correctly.
I'm pretty sure the song that plays in the desert stage is an original composition, but don't quote me on that. Tommy Tallarico helped compose both games, so it's likely that song in the prototype was used as a placeholder, I'd bet.
Well, thanks for this video, because this explains a lot of things regarding my copy of Street Fighter 2 for the Genesis. Apparently dad bought a bootleg of the prototype, because that's exactly the version I had.
Awesome episode! I had no idea about any of these being playable! I absolutely loved the Aladdin footage, that was so cool to see. Had that game since I was like 10 years old. Seeing the prototype gameplay was amazing to me :)
Should see what he done too his brother, helped him become highly dependent and addicted too drugs. Luigi is a real mess and he so bad he's robbing old ladies for their fish and chips and purses with 5p in it
I'm fascinated by prototypes, too. I really really really enjoyed this one. It just might be my favorite episode, and I've been watching for years. You covered all the most interesting ones except Sonic 2 (which I'm sure you're already aware of) but I hope you find enough to make a follow-up episode. Big thumbs up!!
17:52 I think that actually happens because the Orstrich hits the Pink Rhino. :) It's usually when You jump too early. Used to happen to Me a fair bit on the PC Version, Lol.
so, from what ive heard, a slightly later, but still early prototype of castlevania bloodlines, had a completely different stage 5, where it had a zepplin, and you had to do something with it. Some of the graphics of it are still in the finals rom
10:46 It's really cool that the new Disney Aladdin/Lion King video game release is going to include this as a bonus. Not only that, but it's also going to include a definitive version of the Genesis version, including bug fixes, and other stuff which they didn't originally have time to complete.
Great video thanks, I had a version of RoboCop Vs Terminator on my magic drive that contained loads of speech and sound effects missing from the retail version, also a early version of MacDonalds land that had you killing the bosses in a different way to the retail version.
I'm going to have to rewatch the Halloween episodes next month. My favorite one is the one with Dave being terrorized by Sonic. 😆 Hope he will make guest appearances.
13:00 I can tell you exactly where that music is from. It's in the first level of the GameBoy version. It was also remixed as "Jungle Jazz" for the 3rd level in The Jungle Book for the Mega Drive and the first level in the Snes version. I remember that because I used to play Aladdin on the GB when I was little, and I was absolutely startled to hear that melody in the Jungle Book game later. So that unused theme did make it in the GB version, but was reused for a different console game.
No, Thank Youuuuuuu for keeping Game Sack going Joe. 🥇🎮
Yes! Thank you for keeping up this Channel, i really like your Videos! Keep on :D
Agree! I look forward to these and always enjoy what I learn.
Prototype Game Sack was a 2 player game, while the retail version is now single player.
Sad face
Too soon
I remember the retail having 2 player mode though. I believe it was removed in an update patch not too long ago
Yes I love the retail version now it's finally fixed it has no glitches
i cri everytime 😢

The ending skit is good! That guy who took Panzer Dragoon Saga must be Dave!
Or is it?
It is I, the blind kung fu maaaasteeeeer
I dunno, if it was Dave he'd take a copy of Snatcher with him too
@@Akaikabe how do we know it wasn't taken?

Best show on UA-cam. Thank you.
Joe is still doing such a great job, but Dave is still and will always be missed.
Don’t feel like playing anything, youtube getting boring, hits refresh.......a new Game Sack video!! 👌👍
This channel is a huge inspiration and after 8 years of watching this channel its always fresh.
Game Sack - Drinking Game: if Joe says
Mode 7 - Drink
Blast Processing - Drink
The Music is amazing - Drink
Dave makes an appearance - Goto Pub
I haven't watched the video, but I bet when Joe says "mode 7" it's not even going to be "mode 7" and instead line scrolling or mosaic effects.
Steven Scott don’t forget “parallax scrolling”

I'm glad you're still killin it.long live Joey.
"You can't even harm Godzilla at all!"
That made me smile for some reason.
Your videos are easily one of my favorite things about Sunday mornings! Thanks for keeping them going! :)

Wonder if that happens in the genesis version too, the gameplay was more polished in that one I remember.
These early morning uploads make me actually appreciate having insomnia
I really love Game Sack. Always fantastic. Keep up the good work.
A new episode at 2 in the morning? Hell yeah!
2 it's not morning. It's either Day or Noon\Night.
Dude I had the worst day at work and I just got home to find out you uploaded, this literally made my day.
Been there.
Get some rest and then keep fighting.
Joe, you can't go opening up and episode with Revenge of Shinobi. It's genuinely impossible for me to like this channel more than I already do.
Joe : "Games have to be finished before they are released, right?"
EA : "Hold my DLC..."
Such a neat idea. With all the modern games we sometimes forget back in the day you had one shot.
It's my boy GameSack Joe *back at it again with the Prototypes!*
Hard to believe dave walked so long ago. Even crazier that ive been watching this show for almost right at a decade. Man time flys.
Thank you so much for continuing to make great content. I'm a gamer at heart but have been homeless living on the street or in the wood. I don't get to play many games these days, but your videos serve as moments of peace for me.
New GameSack episode = instant stress relief.
Been watching Gamesack for years now, Fantastic content! Hilarious humor and awesome times. Thank you! :)
"Games are completed before released right ? well, not these days"
quote of the decade
Great coverage. Interesting to see the progression of these games.
Sonic 2's prototype has a ton of differences between it and the final. I'd love to see that one covered on the next episode.
LOVE this one. So much is Early Access now. It's awesome to see what the games I grew up on would have been like on a EA release. Please MORE OF THIS!
hard to believe that Dave's been gone from Game Sack for almost 2 years now. I still love you, Joe but it certainly doesn't feel the same since Dave left.
impressive footage of some unseen or unfinished games!
This was a great idea for an episode, and the execution was awesome.

Why is Game Sack soooo goood?!? Keep up the great work Joe!
Thx for keeping this amazing show going.
This is my absolute favourite subject about video games!
Thanks Joe!
Love the Amico shirt, uncanny foresight.
Lots of subtle jokes to be found, especially with the "Game Sack Hyper-Real Dare-to-Compare Turbo Comparison Screen!"s. Nice work, Joe.
Your Awesome Joe! Game Sack is the best channel on UA-cam.
love the Show. thank you for all that you do for the gaming community.

I feel like there may be another version of SF 2 for the Genesis. I remember several magazines showing pics of that game with a large black bar where the energy meters were located. I remember the game was scheduled for release on 6/93 and was pushed back several months.
Yes, there was an early prototype with bars placed outside of the stage drawing area. Also, Blanka was written as "Branka"
Never saw any running in your Shinobi 3 prototypes. That was my favorite part of the game and made it more enjoyable for me. Great video.
What an awesome idea for an episode!
Really good idea on this one Joe. I find this really interesting as well
Fantastic idea, hope there's a sequel with more examples!
wow Joe, Dave sure is coming up with more elaborate ways to cameo in a show he's left and still steal your stuff XD

Genesis always had that distinctive slap bass.
wasn't there another ver of SF2 for the Genesis? i remember seeing the black bar on top where the gauge sits. I think that's what EGM was talking about
Yes there was. Original screenshots had the black border over the name plates.
Yes, that's what EGM was taking about. The black bar lay behind the life bars in earlier builds. It had nothing to do with the letterboxing.

Yeah, like others mentioned, he showed the wrong version. There's an older build with a black bar behind the life bars.
Correct. Joe already knows about it. I had posted images on the game on his Discord.
I'd love to see a follow up. One game I'd love to see covered is Sonic 2. That game had a few prototypes out there.

I like in the dr Mario prototype that they have a visual representation of the patient. They should have stuck with that.
i got lion king as a christmas present when i was 5 and i am an actual serial killer who LOVES your show.

I kinda wanna see another one like this, maybe one about regional differences or differences in retail revisions?
Awesome. Thanks Joe - and thanks to the mysterious stranger.
The music that plays in the desert level of Aladdin is actually from The Jungle Book game.
Where does the final version come from?
I'm pretty sure the song that plays in the desert stage is an original composition, but don't quote me on that. Tommy Tallarico helped compose both games, so it's likely that song in the prototype was used as a placeholder, I'd bet.
