    Guys, Buy the warranty! I got my FX Cr. SVHO with 5yr warranty (max allowed by Yamaha, 1 yr oem and 4 yrs Y.E.S.) I am glad i did ! Had Engine block head cracked, so in 2020 they replaced the entire engine except bolt on's. had transom resealed due to leak, steering cable replaced due to it being stiff, keel guard installed by the dealer peeled off. Just the keel guard re & re was worth the warranty cost. I consider my self lucky that i did buy the warranty.

    Hey Capt Frank, thank you for taking the time and making and sharing this video. Since the pandemic hit it has been extremely difficult getting a new ski or even used depending on where you are. Seams like the southern states are getting most of the new skis and the states up north are not getting as many. Yes you do have to pre order and be patient and work with your dealer, as there hands are tied to what they are getting delivered to their store. I had a 2021 gp1800R HO ordered and it was never completed by Yamaha and the delivery was cancelled due to shortage of material and parts. That's when Yamaha cut 20% of the manufacturing that year. Anyway thanks for this video and the detailed information on the ski. Now a days there isn't a show room where you can walk in an look at all the skis, like years past. I subscribed to your channel and love your videos, the Ozark house and the FL ski riders run look so awesome. Will be looking forward seeing more of your videos. Have a great summer.😎

    Thank you very much Captain Frank for all your videos! I have watched and looked forward to you posting them every week! I Finally got my 21 fx svho limited in August after ordering it in October of 2020. Absolutely love it! Like you, I’m a pretty big guy and the size and power of this machine makes for a perfect match. Felt like a very proud papa when she proved herself pulling a 30’ boat off a sandbar which is when I realized the speedometer works off of the rpms only. The only thing I didn’t like was the “pad fenders” that came with it. Have since changed to the “hook style” and they are so much better. Pricey but worth it! Nothing I would change that Yamaha hasn’t done already for the 22’s. I’m currently waiting on my 22 fx cruiser svho that I ordered August 15th. Black w/ blue trim. Hopefully it won’t take as long as last year to be delivered. My son lives in Columbia SC which is not to far from lake Lanier. Would love to come down to meet and ride with you on your beautiful lake. Hopefully someday. Till then, safe riding and I hope you and your family have great holidays!!

    My first ski was a ‘14 FX HO that blew up (timing chain) last summer. I missed a lot of water time. Decided to order a ‘22 FX SVHO (ready for a supercharger!!) but the production woes were too much. No way I was going to miss out again. Frank’s videos help convince me that the ‘21 is an awesome machine - although I know about all of the “improvements” being made in ‘22. If you watch and read reviews, just about everyone loves the ‘19-21 Nanoxcel 2 hull (delaminating issues aside) Yesterday, I signed the paperwork on a ‘21 FX SVHO Limited - with a 5 yr warranty. Love the comfort, handling, speed of my ‘14 FX HO. Can’t wait to try RiDE, SVHO, the cruiser seat. Thanks, Cap!

This video helped a lot to confirm that I did in fact make the right decision. I have this exact waverunner, and have never regretted it one bit. It exceeded all of my expectations and I plan on having it for many years. I feel like it is more of a boat than a PWC, 3 people confortably, heavy so it really is not affected by water conditions. Smooth and very powerful, acceleration is un believable. Works great for pulling tubes and plenty of storage space. This summer will be my 3rd summer with it and it works flawlessly.

      @@johngaleano4105 Hi John. I don't have a video yet but that sounds like a good idea for one. For break in of a new ski, the first thing I would tell people is to read the manual. For my ski, I had to ride at idle for the first 5 min followed by an hour of riding at various speeds while being sure not to go WOT for extended periods. Other skis may be different though. Most supercharged skis will require 91 octane fuel where normally aspirated can use 87. If it is a newer ski, you also can use ethanol fuel as long as you don't leave it sitting for long periods of time without using it. Good luck riding and have fun!

    Great one year review! It does seem like yesterday when I watched your first review. I have had my Sea Doo GTX 230/2021 since July 1st. I have put 51 hours (all in salt water) so far. I have my machine for the exact same reasons you stated, and my riding style is very similar to yours. I love how it has performed, and like you I have not had a single problem. Some things I like about it; ergolock seat for control (can lock your knees in when being aggressive, dash display. riding mode features (pretty much the same as you had mentioned on your FX), very dry ride, ibr system (forward and reverse and brake), ease of access to front storage, idf system (has worked flawlessly), tilt handlebar, linq systen for fuel caddie, trim system, very comfortable ride. I am adding the Garmin EchoMap 62cv, Riva Sponsons (more control in open water conditions (one thing about the ST3 Hull is that it will hunt (pull/push) in crosschop, and floorboard wedges that will help the rider lock in even stronger make making turns at higher speeds and control in open ocean more manageable. Although supercharged, riding at cruise speeds between 30-40 mph I could easily get close to 90 miles on a full tank. Took my last ride for the season on Sunday over to Newport and Jamestown, off Ocean Drive. It was 29 degrees when I started! Time to winterize it and wait for next season. Late April-November. The one question I guess we have to ask ourselves is would we make the same purchase again? I would. Thanks again for the review. Your adventures have all been fun vicarious journeys. Stay well. 🙏

      I’m looking to purchase a 2022 sea doo Gtx 230 or 300 limited. You review of your Gtx 230 is exactly what I was Looking for. I just got my first jet ski last summer with a sea doo Wake 150. Fun but a rough ride.
      QUESTION. How smooth of a ride is your GTX 230? I will be mostly riding lakes that can get choppy if there are a lot of boats causing wakes. I rode my friends 2016 GTX Limited that had the (now discontinued) suspension seat and was an amazingly smooth ride in choppy conditions. Sea Doo discontinue this suspension seat claiming "our new hull design allows for a smooth ride without the suspension seat"
      Is this true? Is the new GTX hull design comfortable? Although I’m now a senior citizen I behave like a 40 year old in riding style but have some back problems on a smaller PWC . Is the bigger GTX in your opinion comfortable and smooth in choppy weather? On my little Sea Doo Wake I feel it after a couple of hours.
      I greatly value your opinion , especially as I will be looking for the top of the line Yamaha or Sea Doo. Both are fantastic but I would want to choose the smoother ride of these two options. Thank you very much

    • @donaldwest9103
      @donaldwest9103 2 роки тому

      @@CrochetNewsNetwork I love the ride the GTX gives. Very smooth, and very comfortable but also very fun. I ride in on a huge bay here in Rhode Island and sometimes venture out into the open Atlantic so I experience all kinds of conditions. I have added the Riva Racing Sponsons, Riva Top Loader Intake Grate, and the Garmin 62cv GPS unit. Kevin Shaw of The Watercraft Journal is a great source for information on everything PWC related and his videos will explain way he recommends these add-ons. If you haven't already, check him out on You Tube as well as his newsletter. I looked at both Yamaha and the Sea Doo. Loved both, but decided on the GTX 230. I do not regret anything about my decision. Any other questions please don't hesitate to ask. By the way, I turned 70 in November. This is my first ski. Never too late. Namaste!

    Great job Captain Frank! I would add that Yamaha should have:
    Designed a standard rear deck for 2022 that has built-in tie down points and optional accessories (especially fuel containers) similar to what Seadoo has done
    A standard ball valve to provide the ability to turn the water spout off
    Optional grab straps for copilot and passenger
    Storage for small items on the underside of both seats (e.g. a small toolbox, first aid kit, emergency signals)
    Larger capacity standard fuel tank
    Larger diameter footwell drains with removable strainers
    Optional second battery and switch
    Built-in standard depth sounder
    Standard GPS Charts
    Optional navigation and docking lights integrated into the deck design
    Relocate the fire extinguisher to the engine compartment with at least remote or better yet automatic activation. Optional Haloguard chemical that won’t destroy your engine and electronics as existing chemical agents will
    An air horn with activation button built in to the steering handlebar similar to a car horn built into the steering wheel. The air horn could be installed into the air intake and air provided by commercially available canisters
    Design the deck such that there is a dedicated location to affix the registration numbers - not a bunch of jumbled letters stuck any which way that destroys the aesthetic flow of the deck
    Optional PWC anchor and chocks located where the useless fire extinguisher is now located
    Waterproof front trunk with elastic cargo nets on each side to hold docking and ground tackle
    Most of the above improvements apply to virtually all PWCs and are therefore not specific to Yamaha. That being said, most of the above are currently available in pleasure craft available today and are easily transferable to our PWCs. Also, most are safety or usability related. Cost must obviously be taken into consideration but many of the improvements can be accomplished reasonably especially with the current price getting close to $20K.

    Great video buddy! I have some experience with these engines and the engine itself should be good for around 1000h if properly maintained and driven somewhat sensibly. People get on a PWC and they forget you still have an engine in there which needs a bit of sympathy. So you can trash an engine and it will last 100-300h.. or you can let it warm up gently before using all the power, maybe not slam the throttle, by mindful of the jet drive coming unhooked, cruise at 50-75% power etc. Then the jet drive is pretty dependent on what kind of water you run in, they can last a long time but sand and dirty water will eat them quite fast. Just take good care of her and drive with some sympathy and they will last a long time!

    My research has me leaning towards a 2023 FX SVHO, finally upgrading from a 1996 110hp Seadoo GSX.
    My only question is on the seat.
    I realize you like the “cruiser” seat for touring as well as with a passenger. Do you ever feel cramped or “hemmed in” by this seat? I’ve read other taller riders report sitting back on the second tier or hump. I don’t think I’d like that too much. Sufficient space between you and the steering column/bars? Im just shy of 6’1”.
    The regular seat would be fine but the cruiser seat intrigues me and in Canada the FX Cruiser SVHO comes in a killer torch red colour.

    Hi Cap.
    Local rider reporting, we have crossed paths briefly on Lanier before. I too had a 2020 Fx Svho. Sold it recently. Please keep an eye on the hull of the ski, mine encountered early delamination signs. I never beach my ski, always anchor off the sands on Lanier, however keep an eye on the paint, it started to chip for me. A dealer exchanged experience with Nanocell issues they had with that FX craft.
    I rode the ski hard i must admit, no mods whatsoever. Keep an eye out, defects are all repairable and it is a know issue by the manufacturer. I am sure if you identify any early issues the concers will be addressed. Just wanted to share my experience.

      The vertical jet is real easy to disable. I actually did a video on it a while back. Takes about 5 minutes. Also, there is a reason for Sea Doo having a closed cooling system while Yamaha does not. Sea Doo engines were originally designed for other purposes (snow mobiles etc). They needed to be closed loop to protect them when riding in salt or brackish water. Yamaha engines were originally designed to be marine engines and therefore built to be in such environments. Another great review.... Question: why did you decide to go with the SVHO over the HO. How often are you riding over 60 mph and for what length of time at that speed. Or do you ride 95% of the time under 60 mph? Do you think the SVHO is worth spending the extra money to go about 79 mph rather then 60 mph? Along with having to put higher octane more expensive gas in the SVHO and the possibility of supercharger problems/ maintenance? Thanks

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching. I chose the SVHO because many of the folks that I rode with are running supercharged skis. Many of them have also done mods to their machines as well. For me, it was just a way to make sure I did not get left behind. I'd say that about 30 percent of my riding is above the 60 mph mark. Truth be told, I could get by without the extra power but it sure is fun. I'd say it is worth it but that depends on your riding style.

    Hey Frank, great video. I know what you are saying about keeping the speed down! The ski is so stable (I have a 2021 FX SVHO Limited) you feel perfectly comfortable cruising at 65 even in fairly rough water. I was curious if you were thinking about getting the rec-deck that came out with the 2022’s (fits 2021 though I understand). It is pricy at $1,000 but seems like it would be very handy. Also, I didn’t hear you mention the nano hull and the improvements for 2022. The one thing I don’t like is the fact that it’s very difficult to get a beer out of a cooler in the front storage. I have gotten where I attach a collapsible cooler in the back instead.

    • @TheShipsLogg

      You are right. I did not mention the hull. Yamaha is going back to fiberglass on some of the '22 models. I had absolutely not issues with the NanoExcel hull on my machine but I know that some people have. My guess is that they probably ride much more aggressively than I do but I am not sure. I do have my eyes on the Rec Deck. It seems like a cool idea. My local dealer says they will not have any until Feb or so so I will check one out then. If I end up getting one, you know you all will see it here!

    I was only wondering what would you do for a longer lifespan?
    I would think if you put on a blow off valve, free flow exhaust, solas impeller, intake grate, intake manifold, riva rideplate, riva intercooler, spark plug that it will have a longer lifespan.
    I know that if you increase the rpm it will shorten it, but with the upgrades I mention it is not the goal to have higher speed.
    Sorry for my bad English.
    +1 subscriber.

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg  2 роки тому +2

      I think the best thing you can do is take care of it. Just like a car or boat, the lifeblood of an engine is keeping the oil changed. Other maintenance items like spark plugs would also be important. If you ride in salt water, be sure to flush it out after every ride.

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg  2 роки тому +2

      As far as a blow off valve is concerned, that depends on your riding habits. If you are a very aggressive rider, I think a bov could be helpful. While I do like to open her up every once in a while, I still tend to be more gradual with the throttle so I don't think it is necessary for me. Let's not forget that Yamaha designed, tested and warrantied their machines as we bought them. Changing too much, while improving performance, could have a negative affect on reliability.

I hate the two color schemes of the HO so I’m leaning towards the SVHO. In real life situation is the range with the SVHO really 100 miles? I’m going to order the Garmin package. Would you get a through hull transducer? Wouldn’t you end up scraping it getting it on and off a trailer or floating dock?

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg  Рік тому +1

      It can be 100 miles depending on conditions and your riding style. If the water is smooth and you are conservative with your speed, you can obtain that. But to be real, people rarely get this with an SVHO because they didn't buy an SVHO to ride at 35 to 40 mph. My hull is a NanoExcel II and the thru hull transducer works great. The 23 models are SMC fiberglass so it may or may not work as well. I'd suggest trying it out to see if it does. Good luck and thanks for watching.

    Sir, that scroll to start ( key code) is dangerous. Why do I say that ? … well sometimes I’ve taken my wake pro into rough seas. If I fall off all i have to do is remount , jab the “key” into the protruding “ receptacle” and jab the red starter button. I can’t imagine being able to select a key code on scroll wheels while the ski is rolling in big waves.

      You only have to put the key code in to unlock it. Once it is unlocked, it stays unlocked until you lock it again. Lord, if you had to do that every time you wanted to start the machine, I wouldn't want to ride on a calm day!! 🤣

    If you don't like Yamaha's two colour scheme's there's a very simple solution, get it Wrapped, no different than a vehicle but a lot cheaper. Your Welcome

    NIGHTMARE!!!!! I bought a 2022 fx cruiser HO. Screen won't turn on sometimes. One time at the lake the entire screen freaked out and thought I was out of the geo fence. Kept screaming at me. Couldn't turn it off or change the settings as somehow the code changed. Yamaha could care less. Offered no support. My boat has been at the dealers for over a month. Frustrated does not even cover it. I hope you have better luck me.

      Not any slower than anything else out there. They are all capped at 70.

    Personally ( And in my opinion only ) , I would NEVER BUY a Yamaha PWC , ALL THE TIME IT HAS THAT RIDICULOUS WATER SPOUT SHOOTING OUT THE BACK , do you know how annoying it is to other riders?
    Nice looking machines though.

      That's why most people disable the spout. Only takes 5 minutes. I'm not sure I would use that as a reason to buy something else.

      Um, nope. It's a 21. Ordered it in Aug of '20 on the first day they started taking orders for the '21 model year. Took delivery of it in October of '20.

    Gp1800 handles way better

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg  2 роки тому

      Of course!! It's a smaller more nimble machine. It's supposed to. That's like saying that a Corvette handles better than a an SUV. If I'm looking to race or run on the track, I take the Vette. If I want to do a road trip, I take the SUV.

      Actually, I do have a boat. It's a 34 foot cabin cruiser. There are things I can do and places I can go with my ski that I can't do and go with my boat. That's why I have both.
