Wow, thanks! I like that kind of feedback.... you know... I need to do all of my videos in the driveway! :-) thanks for watching and I hope you subscribed! Bob
Thanks… I have about 280 hours on the ski now and no real change… next service is 300 hours. I appreciate you watching and commenting on the video … I try to tell it like it is … if you watch some of my ski videos you will see all the places I go. Next video is released this Thursday. Again, thanks! Bob
@@BobBroeking I look forward to that! Thnx. Also if you don’t mind me ask. I’m soon upgrading from a 2004 FXHO to a 2024 VXHO cruiser with the new 1.9L. I want something I can throw around in the corners better and handle a little sportier in calm than my fx did but still want stability in deep waters. do you think I will be just as happy with the vxho cruiser for this or is it wise to upgrade to the fxho instead? Thanks! Giuseppe
You will be very happy with the VX…. See: 2021 Yamaha VX Cruiser HO WaveRunner ua-cam.com/video/KYTxlJGXbtw/v-deo.html It’s very stable, as dry as ride as the FX, faster, more nimble and a great ski. It is a solid purchase
@@BobBroekingI’ve experienced and owned a few VX’s since 2004. I currently own a spark but thinking of adding a SeaDoo GTX or FX cruiser. My wife and I have 2 small children under 7 and want to have something that cruises the river and to restaurants. What differences do you think I’d notice on the FX coming from a VX and how do you think the VX and GTX seadoo compare?
Thanks for making this review. I watched it before I bought my FX's this year. Seeing you ride and hearing this helped me decide to buy my own. I look forward to bumping into you on the water one day.
Your welcome and I am glad it helped you make a great decision. I was just going over mine in the garage today to get it ready to head back out next week. Thanks for watching. Bob
Great update. Getting an honest review from an end user is invaluable when it comes to making an informed decision. The cost of ownership was also good to know.
Thanks for watching and providing feedback. The FX with the 1.8L engine has been bulletproof. If you do your own maintenance of course the costs plummet. So far so good! 👍
Glad you could find the video useful… I wash the trailer down with salt away as well if I am in salt water and rinse it off even in fresh water when I wash the ski.
Looks like one of your best viewed videos. Hopefully this will help grow the channel. This is by far the best channel for jet ski content. You must have some smart subscribers that suggested this review!! lol
Yes funny Jim.... think I will do all my jet ski videos in the driveway and just stay off the water.. hahahha. My subscribers are smart... a couple had been asking me for a couple of months and I did not think it would be useful to many... evidently it hit the UA-cam algorithm as You Tube is pushing it out to about 5-6 times more people than normally! I appreciate you saying the channel is one of the best jet ski content out there...that motivates me to continue to film and edit when I could just be skiing... I am committed for doing it another 24 months and then decide what to do... Appreciate your support and thoughts. Bob
Finally someone who speaks the truth on all aspects of ownership. I do enjoy seeing what PWC owners have in there arsenal. What equipment they have in there PWC.
Hi bob. I’ve had my FX HO 2021 now for about 4 months, and absolutely love it,so economical on fuel, very good in the chop, comfortable, I just wish I had of got it a little earlier than I did 🤷♂️great content bob keep it coming👍🏻🇦🇺
Yes James, the FX is one of the best all around machines...glad you are enjoying it and also like te content of the channel...that keeps me motivated! Bob
I have a 2020 VX. So far no issues at 145 hours. Same as you I had to replace the battery. I do my own services so I do save on maintenance. Enjoy all your videos.
Yes those batteries are just not going to last very long for whatever the reason. I know I could save tons of money on maintenance just not my particular thing... I am good at other things though!...hahahhaha. Thanks for watching! Bob
A real review! Awesome!! Have the sea doo wake pro 230 and I use my trusted dealer as well. To many things to go through in case a single thing goes wrong! Awesome video!
Glad the video helped you even though you have a Seadoo… yes I am no mechanic and although I know I could learn as my friends do their own maintenance, I have a good relationship with my dealer so I trust them to do it right. I’ll be ready for my 250 hour maintenance shortly…. Thanks for watching! Bob
Gator Glide is the same as when it was applied with a few scuffs; no scratches... solid investment for me and the type of riding I do! thanks for watching and commenting!
Awesome video I really enjoy watching your video. I finally received my 2022 red yamaha svho cruiser. Please answer this question for me sir. Did you install the tow valve. Will make a video on how you installed it and the cost. Where you purchase the parts.. Thanks again sir.
You can get the valve on Amazon for $19 or f you prefer you can buy a valve a Lowes for cheaper. Search "WaveEater Towing valve" on Amazon for Yamaha 4 stroke engines. I did not do the install (I have my Yamaha Tech do it when I had it in for service). Probably a very simple operation if you have every long arms and can work at the bottom of the ski...just need to ID the right hose. Thanks for watching... my current video is Part 2 to this video ref SPEED. Bob
This is very helpful,as I'm considering Yamaha touring class units for next year. I'm a 30 year PWC service tech. That doesn't mean we know "everything " lol I appreciate the costing out of ownership, and there's always something that can be learned in real world use. So thanks for this!
Glad it was helpful! Although I doubt I could impart any words of wisdom with all your experience...as you can tell mechanical expertise is lacking in me! :-) I appreciate you saying some tidbits were useful! ;-) Bob
$2,000 for a fiberglass repair? Yikes. I can get a small Panga built down here for that. 😮 Great video by the way, with a ton of info I’ve been looking for!
Another great review! Thanks for posting...I do similiar rides all over Florida and the East Coast and have found new places thanks to your posts. (Try the Oklawaha off of St John's for a beautiful ride)! The only question I have is why do you carry additional fuel when 90% or better of your trips are within range (or fuel/marinas) available. I have considered a rack and fuel but don't want to deal with the weight and climb over issues. Seems popular in Florida ...I love being prepared as well. Your thoughts?
Well Ray this is a timely question because tomorrows video is all about gas and refueling. First thanks for watching my videos and I am glad you have found new places by watching them. That stretch of the Ocklawaha is beautiful been there a couple of times and an up coming video we ride a segment of that river again. We carry extra gas for self sufficiency and to eliminate the need to buy gas on the water for crazy inflated prices. Anything close to 80+ miles and you usually see one can on our skis. I have run out of gas going 40 mph on the Suwannee River with no marinas and was able to get to shore and refuel and keep going. The racks allow us to also carry coolers and other things. I have demonstrated twice how to fall off your ski when reboarding with a rack if you do not take your time…. You are right…. Hahahaha Again this next video is for you tomorrow morning at 0800! Thanks for asking the question!
Just stumbled upon your review… Appreciate your perspective. Since its a year later, how are you like the Gator Glide, and would you recommend it? Also, I don’t have FB, can you share the details of who installed it on your FX? [I’m just a bit south of you in Central FL].
I am going to do a review video of it but the short answer is yes I would recommend it especially if you have the Yamaha “nano” hulls (19/20?) and you do any adventuring skiing or would simply like to pull your ski up to a shore for a moment and not worry about scratches (not talking ocean shore here) . Jeff Butler did ours over by Cocoa Beach … the last phone number I had for him was +1 (321) 720-9299. Thanks for watching…. Glad you stumbled on in…. Plenty of videos in here!
Nice video, thanks. I noticed that you had a towing valve installed. I’m wondering if you have a video on how you installed it, including what parts you used? It seems all the tow valve videos I can find tend to be for Sea Doos. Thanks
This is the valve...search this on Amazon: " WaveEater Towing Water Supply Valve for All Yamaha 4 Stroke WaveRunners." $18 I had my Yamaha Service tech install it during a maintenance visit soon after I got the ski so I do not have a video. Bob
Another great video. Thanks! I have 2 VX Deluxe Waverunners in Homosassa and ride in most of the same rivers and places you do. Your posts have helped me plan more than a few trips! Quick question...Thinking of upgrading to FX but unsure of the need to haul all of that extra gas around. Most of your videos do not seem to need it? Moreover as insurance? Please reply...I've seen and experienced what a PITA it is to reboard with a rack on the back. Thanks in Advance!
What year are your VXs? Glad the videos help...I am sure you figured out that the ramp location and other data is in the written description. Whether you are on a VX or a FX you would need gas on any trip over 90 miles and yes routinely our trips are over 90 miles; sometimes you see me refueling on the trip on the video and sometimes not... but you need it for over a 90 mile trip. I have run out of gas at the 92 mile point going 40 mph on the Suwanne River...hahhaha. I love my Shorlock rack and the great news is they stated making them again under a new owner. I did a review of the rack on my channel. It attached and comes off in 2 mins! And yes, you have to take your time reboardng the ski with the rack. My current video has me nearly tipping the ski over as I reboarded before I fell into the Gulf. You just have to take your time. Glad the videos help!
Great review! So before doing the gater skin you didnt have issues with the hull paint cracking? I hear a lot of Waverunners have issues with the hull paint cracking. Im thinking about buying 2 used FX's, looking around 2018-2020 models.
Well thank you for watching and the feedback. No I had no issues with hull or paint cracking. All of my scrapes and scratches were minor and self inflicted , but I was tired of seeing them and I do adventure touring ( see my others videos) so I felt it was the way to go. Bob
Great … it’s a great all around machine … every time I go 58 mph I ask myself why would I ever want to go faster and I go back to 35/45 mph….:). You will love this machine! Bob
I'm recently looking in to this fun sport, I currently do not own a machine but when you mentioned that valve you installed so the motor won't flood if you need a tow do the owners manuals talk about what to do if you need a tow or is that something you figured out on your own and would I need to set something up like that? Also considering the VX models as they have the smaller1049cc motor, you said the sweet spot for good mpg is 35 mph, how much better gas millage do you think I would get over the 1800 cc FX's Oh and I've read a VX will probably hit about 52MPH..your thoughts? Great site BTW I liked your trip going through the locks! Cheers
The owners manual says when you tow the watercraft keep the bow out of the water and do not tow it faster than 5 mph or you risk flooding and damaging the engine. I would find any towing situation to be very difficult to meet wither of those standards and that is why I installed the valve. The only thing I would say about engine size is the 1.8L engine is known to be pretty bullet proof. I get 6/6.1mpg on my FX Cruiser, an friend on his 21 VX with same engine routinely got 6.2/6.3. I am not sure what you would get with the smaller engine... that would be a question for those owners who have one. The new VX with the 1.8L engine is faster than my FX... indicated 64 mph. As I mentioned I am not a speed demon but I would want to be able to do 60 to beat a storm, etc... Hope this helps. Bob
Amazon after the OEM ones were sliced … these have held up for two years so far! Search: Reese Towpower 7007500 Safety Cable,40" , Black…. $31. You can also use simple chains.
Bob. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEOS like this one, and the others. I’ve been binging! Our house in Cape Coral on the salt water canals is under construction as we speak and my wife have two 2022 Yamaha VX Deluxes on their way to our dealership here in Atlanta. When we move down there, I want to go to many of the same places you visit. And if by chance we could all ride together sometime, that would be great. We’ll message you when we get down that way to see if you’re ever interested. -Mike
Mike: first thank you watching the videos and I am super happy you find them helpful. The ramp location is always in the written description for each video. I would love to come down and explore the Gulf Islands around Cape Coral once you get settled in… the one time I was down there I heard east when we crossed Florida and did not get a chance to play in the Gulf. Just email me using the address on my you tube home page when you are down, settled, and have your bearings. Bob
@@BobBroeking Thanks bob would you pick it over the Kawasaki ultra or sea doo explorer pro. What do you think is the biggest weakness of each of the latter two brands? Sorry for all the questions.
When I rode motorcycles I only rode Hondas.... I really think Yamaha and Seadoo lead the PWC industry so I have paid little attention to the Kawa.... so I cannot comment. I am sure they are nice... I considered the Seadoo Explorer this year when he debuted but when my local dealer said there was $1500 transportation charge and a $1500 set up fee I walked away from the already high MSRP. Seadoo leads in tech and other innovations like IBR, but the Yamaha 18L engine is bullet proof. I am a Yamaha kind of guy sort of like Honda when I rode motorcycles. YRMV widely... :-) Bob
I had the gator glide applied by Jeff Butler who can be reached on the Florida Ski Riders group on FB. There is no performance change in the ski and I plan a one year review in a few months…. Right now I am satisfied I had it done … no regrets…
I have the same ski and use it for the same purpose, long-distance riding. I'm not a speed freak but I like to explore and find new nooks and crannies. I typically cruise around 5500-6000 rpm, I find the engine and ski is really happy there. I don't notice any big difference in gas mileage going 35 or 45 mph, it's more about how rough the water is and what I feel like.
How fast are you going at 5500-6000...I done have my ski right here to test it. I feel my top range is 90 miles in good water conditions. I know I ran out at 94 on one river: ua-cam.com/video/3xXzk8LPNL0/v-deo.html I usually get 6 miles to the gallon... Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@BobBroeking 6 mpg is pretty much bang on, that's what I average as well. Probably 60-70% high-speed cruise, some low speed canals and marinas, a few full gas stints. Boat Test tested the Fx Ho and the numbers match mine pretty close, mine has a little less top speed but maybe Boat Test got a "perfect ski" for review. But from the results you can see almost no difference in mpg between 5000-6000 rpm and that's been my experience as well. I like to cruise at 5700 rpm, the engine sounds nice there :)
Nice review! I have kept my Yamaha FXs all stock. They have been very reliable. Its nice being able to just go on a very long ride without having to worry about not making it back to the ramp. It seems like the people doing the speed mods are always working on their machines for various reasons.
That's a good point about speed mods Loren... as you know I go solo on a lot of my trips and I really need reliability over anything else. Look forward to your visit in two months! Love my new Boondockspwc cockpit mounting system! Cannot wait to try it out this week!
Docks have beat mine to death. The dock where I go is taller than the ski. I really have a hard time even with my bumpers. Fast moving river is rough lol. Great video.
Agree Robert every time I see a dock I see a new nick or rub...even as I deploy bumper guards, etc! ha! I finally quit worrying and do the best I can... I treat the ski as a tool like my daily driver more than I treat it like the weekend car in the garage. :-) Bob
@@BobBroeking Yes i hopefully will, the one thing that concerns me is supply chain interruotance not only fir the ski's but fir parts and repairs after the purchase.
I am glad it helped…. It’s a solid machine… if I was going to stay in the jet ski adventure mode another 5/6 years I would also get the 24 FX… my engine still runs like new at 280 hours and the ski looks like new 10’ away! Hahahahhaa Bob
Excellent excellent video Bob.Have one question about the trailer. We are up here in the northeast so trailer bearings in the water are no issue .Do u ever have problems with salt or brackish water getting into your wheel bearings or wiring on the trailer?
No is the short answer... I rinse my trailer down after all outings, salt or fresh but extra careful after salt... as I mentioned in the video I also get my bearings serviced annually but they are sealed. I also always check by hubs when on long high speed trips to make sure no grease can be seen leaking out or they are not over heating. So not problem so far!
I have a 2018 FX HO Cruiser with simlar mods but also riva air filter.. I do oil and filter every 50hrs, battery, spark plugs and mid shift grease every season. I have a similar story everything works like new, 2 stitches in the seat that let loose being the only damage. I live in Ontario Canada so only get 6 months of riding, but my Yamaha has 550hrs and counting.
That is great to hear... I plan on keeping this ski for another two years and probbaly be at 400 hours by then and as long as I do the required maintenance and care for it properly, I suspect it will continue to look and run great! great to hear you ski is over 500 hours! Thanks for watching - hope you subscribed! Bob
Stu: While I have thought about it, I rewatched that video from a year ago and can honestly say NOTHING has changed in the last 12 months. And I don’t want to just do a video and not provide anything useful just for views. Maybe I had the 200 hour service after filming that video but nothing remarkable. I am approaching the 250 hour service so maybe if something interesting is found then I will do an update to that video. The ski looks the same and runs the same. What I am planning is to do a one year review of my gator glide application and Tracy, Sarah, and Danny are going to help me with that as they all had their done at the same time. Bob
@@BobBroeking that is awesome! They are really great machines when looked after! Have you got any plans this year to upgrade any parts of the machine like sponsons & ride plate or the machine itself? Cheers, Stu
If you tow your ski that is disabled too fast you can flood your engine and lose it. This valve closes the intake hose so you can tow your ski and not damage it. Search this on Amazon... any simple valve will work: WaveEater Towing Water Supply Valve for All Yamaha 4 Stroke WaveRunners
Great review! Different from almost any I 've seen. Breaking down the cost of ownership I'm sure would be very helpful to many future owners. How long is your tow rope? I carry a 60 foot length. Thanks for posting. Have not been out yet here in Rhode Island yet. Hopefully the week of the 2nd week of May.
Great review, I am about to pull the trigger for one of these. When you decided to go fo a yamaha did you considered sea doo as well? And why yamaha instead? Wondering the thoughts here...
I did not consider a Seadoo when I bought my FX. My jet ski friend at the time had a 2018 FX that I rode and tested out and that seemed to be the machine for me so that was my focus. I can say in hindsight that Yamaha was the right choice for me with the rock solid 1.8L engine and low maintenance. The only thing I would have preferred is not to have the easily damaged nano hull the 2020-2021’s have but I think I took care of that with the gator glide application to the bottom. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! Bob
Thanks for watching…. I do not think the tape would do much to protect the hull or keel but I am no expert. Really only a keel guard or a coating like gator glide will enhance the hull’s strength. Bob
Occasionally I spray them down with Aerospace 303 protection spray…. As a matter of fact I think I will go do that right now… have not done it in a awhile. I think the main thing for protecting them is to keep them out of the sun. Ski is kept in a garage. Thanks for watching! Bob
That is great you have so many hours on your Waverunner. You are really getting your moneys worth. Supercharged engines not only use a lot more gas they need more maintenance. How long do you plan on keeping this one?
Agree... I am getting my money's worth and quit worry about dings a long time ago (after I got my first one on my first trip)... I have thought about getting a new one,,,,, but decided I don't gain anything. With the mods and accessories I have for his one I see myself still riding this for 2-3 years - another 300+ hours! Thanks for being a subscriber! Bob
Great review!! I just sold my 2016 Yamaha VXR that had 212 hours on it, and it got great gas mileage, however my next purchase will either be a 2022 Yamaha FX HO or a 2023 Yamaha FX HO. I believe the HO engines are just more reliable then the SVHO's and I don't have to worry about supercharger clutches or having to run 92 octane in the ski. After seeing your review i'm just looking for a relaible, Big ski that gets great gas mileage and cuts real well through the chop and has more storage than my VXR did. :)
Great to hear! I agree that the 1.8L engines are reliable, proven, and not complicated engines. Sounds like the FX will tick off many of your requirements! A friend got a 21 VX when they came out but the lack of storage would not work for me plus the FX handles big waves much better. Thanks for watching and hope you subscribed and saw my other videos that might interest you! Bob
after watching this video again, I had a stock yamaha battery like you and mine lasted almost 4 years, because i used a trickle charger that keeps the battery charged up and doesn't over charge it. Once the charger reaches a full charge it holds the charge to the top line of the battery and doesn't go over it. Thats why my cheap yamaha battery lasted so long. 😊
@@BobBroeking When I get my new FX HO, I would love to come down and ride with you Bob. Me and my wife did the Dunedin jetski Invasion in clearwater and dunedin Florida back a few years ago and it was a blast. I love to meet new people and chat with jetski riders from all over, My biggest thing is relax riding and adventures.
I got a gel no maintenance battery that the dealer recommended. I always felt trying to service the OEM battery and keeping it topped off with distilled water was way to hard given its location in the ski
I found a used one Apr. 2024 the 'Kawasaki green' one w/50 hrs. on it.. hoping it will be a blast.. had a smaller sea doo a few yrs. ago. and think a bigger ride will be more comfy.
Your welcome; Ill probably do a 4 year review shortly but other than a couple new services not much has changed. I still ride it every two weeks, it looks the same, and I have had no failures. Hope you can enjoy some of my many ride videos. Bob
If you have the capacity to carry extra fuel like you do, do you think it's theoretically possible for an FX HO to go from Florida all the way down the islands to Venezuela and Guyana?
Have you watched this video:? ua-cam.com/video/wXvk8I3aLnE/v-deo.html You would have about 150-180 mile range with the aux fuel set up so you would have to do the map on open water crossings around Cuba and farther south…. But theoretically it may be possible…. 👍😎😳 Bob
Thanks for the link 👍 It's one of those things that I've had on my bucket list for ages but everyone always tells me I'm insane. It seems like the greatest open water distance to cross is about 130 miles, which really doesn't sound so crazy anymore (and obviously this is not a 1 man operation).
@@jakke1975 definitely a planned group expedition that is well planned with backup…. Agree… if you develop a suggested route send it my way. A major planning factor would be clearing all of the different customs and immigration ports of call and getting good gas, etc. interesting challenge!

The BEST part about a tear in the seat, you have an excuse to get custom seat covers to make it different from everyone else’s at a glance from a distance (and much cheaper than a custom paint job or wrap)! Wow, I pay less for insurance (also Progressive) on my 18 foot skiff with 50 horse Honda outboard….. but I don’t know if I have the tow package (having a Honda means I may not know for decades)….
That is the way to look at it! :-) You must be in the seat cover business?! I looked at that tear this week when I went out and it has not gotten any bigger (yet). I have progressive through USAA so maybe my rates are a bit higher and I do have Sign and Glide seatow. I don't insure anything else with progressive so you probably get a bundle discount. Compared to what may say I thought my rates were low. And this is for full collision and comprehensive. Thanks for watching!
I know I was tired of trying to keep every little scratch off the very fragile hull that Yamaha made in 2020. Now I feel comfortable in monetarily pulling it up on the sand if the water is calm and know it will leave no marks. As long as I treat it like paint I would be surprised if it does not last the lifetime of the ski. I'll do a one year review of it in 2023. I have only had it on 6 months but it looks new and the ski has been through a lot in the last 6 months. Bob
Great to hear I have a 22 gp and as much as I baby it I had my first section of paint come off this weekend. I’ve been in contact with Jeff butler about doing it to my ski. I just need something to hold up as I do a bunch of river riding
Yep, I know its easy (and certainly cheaper) but I also like to take advantage of the Yamaha tech giving everything a once over as they know what kind of riding I do... I also don't do oil changes in the cars.... I know...sad but true...:-)
Yes I did have small scratches and scuffs...all cosmetic in the paint, but every time I looked at it, it bugged me. I would never beach on a sand beach long term, but in calm water who does not like to lift the nose of their ski and gentle let it rest on shore during a break. Then when I got it home to wash I would see a new rub or small scratch. I do adventure riding and go in some places people would never take their skis so GG seemed like the right application for me. Tracy, Danny, and Sarah also had it done. I think it has made these terribly designed Yamaha nano hulls stronger. I still treat my ski like it has a bare painted hull, but now I don't worry as much if at all. One week after the application Tracy and I hit a sandbar in the St Johns River headwaters when the water went from 14" to sand at 25 mph. Minor scuff on the GG. I will know more by Spring 2023 at the one year point and will do a recap review video but 8 months into it still seems like it was smart to do for the type of riding we do. It also looks very nice! Hope this helps!
@@BobBroeking thank you and appreciate your insights. Just got a new 2023 gp1800 HO and even I didn’t beached it or drove off/on the trailer (push it out and in) have already some paint missing…(primer is still there) try to figure out the best solution to protect my investment.
@@levin2502 just my thought but minor cosmetic scratches are not really an issue. If you are primarily riding in deep water with little chance of damage I probably would not worry about it. If after a year or two the scratches start to build up and you wanted to have GG applied maybe that’s the best option. I’ll let you know next spring what I think of GG after a year of heavy use. Congrats on your ski! Bob
@@BobBroeking thanks for all your insights, might cross paths along the FL waterways… also just saw someone posting about the Yamaha 2022 commercial, which shows by the intake crate the missing paint which exactly happened to mine… so assume its a common thing. Never owned one and was shocked after close to no use how bad it is.
Subbed. Great job. Question. I see some makes and models shoot a waterspout out the back, others don’t. What is that? Specific to certain make, model? TYVM.
First thank you subbing... hit that notification bell so you see new ones. I think all YAMAHAS have the safety waterspout. Seadoos and Kawasaki's do not to my knowledge. As you saw in this video I have a simple valave I can turn off or on. I usually leave it on unless I know I am skiing in tight quarters with others (so i dont spray them) or when i have my extra gas can rack on the back. Bob
@@coopgang187 He is asking about the safety spout out the rear. That safety visibility spout has nothing to do with the engine and is a specific safety feature on Yamahas.....It merely redirects a portion of the output of the jet flow through a small hole to form a spout. I have a a valve on it to turn it off/on as desired. I think you are referencing the lower side spout where the engine cooling discharge comes out.
Just pre ordered 24 FX HO, it will arrive end of May, I'm still not sure if i wanna call them and get the Supercharged version, most of my friends whom below 30 yrs old telling me to get the supercharged one 😂, and I love speed to be honest, but my main reason to get the FX is having fun with kids, comfy ride, 0 mechanical issues, more storage space, toe, less dealership rides. I'm not ready to stand in the middle of the see waiting 911 to reach me!! so after watching your video I'm like %95 with keeping my order and not upgrading to supercharged version.
Have you gone 60mph on a ski? Have you gone 68 mph on a ski? What is the difference other than your < 30 year old friends being in front of you. You will still beat them to the finish when they stop for gas… we had four FXs out today and only one was supercharged…. No diff…. Unless you want to race…. The FX with the new 1.9L engine will be even better… The real cruising speed for fun and comfort is 35-45mph… good luck with your decision!
@@BobBroeking This the best question I've been asked, no my max was Kawasaki Sx800 2010 topspeed back days, it's like 45-50ish, and it's not comfy on this kind of jetski's, but yeah im more into HO than SVHO.
@@fasoole you and your friends may be different but I doubt many people run high speeds except for short spurts as it’s just too fast to cruise at and high speeds like that are for very clam water or you are asking for trouble. When I have my FX pegged at 58 mph, it’s a very short lived affair. I could not imagine going 65-75… and I am speed guy with a C8 Corvette. The HO is plenty fast IMHO.

How do you like the cruiser seat Bob? I’m just over 6’ and am wondering if I will fit on this type of seat ok….enough room? Currently deciding on cruiser vs regular FX.
@@BobBroeking thanks for the prompt reply and glad you’ve got space/comfort. Do you ever find yourself pushed back in the cruiser seat ending up overtop of the back support or “hump”? Although this is reported frequently on the internet my dealer is oblivious lol and they don’t do test rides. These pwc’s are pushing 30 grand here in Canada so it is a big cash outlay.
@@iananderson7569 I ride standing up infrequently unlike many...so there are times on really wild rides I may shift back to the second seat to cushion the blows coming... but on easy water I could sit in the front seat all day long and rotate leg position. You can stretch your legs straight forward from the drivers seat to stretch. Bob
YES! I do a Pre mix!!!! Meanwhile, I changed both the Start/Stop Box and Starter Solenoid and check led the fuse all new! The starter will engage and turn the motor over when I jump to two poles on the solenoid but I still don't have any power going up to my start switch could this be a bad CDI?
Where did you grab those trailer steps, also can you attach a link for your safety cables i dunno what size to get or order i like yours if yip could send a link thanks.
Hi John ... thanks for watching! hope you subscribed! Those trailer steps were the cheapest best investment I ever made as my fenders are not weight bearing. I got them on Amazon for $32. Search: MaxxHaul 70089 Steel Trailer Step. If you are talking about the safety straps on the back that is just ratchet straps from Walmart. I also use a safety line attached to the bow for towing and that was $10 from Amazon: Search: BoatBuckle Pro Series Bow Tie-Down with Loop End, 1-Inch x 36-Inch Hope this helps you with the questions you had....Bob
@@BobBroeking thanks for the link on the step. I have built in rear transom ratchets. I was curious of the front safety chain replacement that are in cable form? What length are those? Lastly you mentioned a bow safety strap. I have a built in like most trailers but I want to add a backup Incase of failure. Should I use the strap you mention or is an eyebolt and a good cable to chain with a hook a good idea. Have a 22 gtr 230 coming for the season sold my two year old Ski so I’m just getting ready thanks again.
Ahhh, got what you are asking now. I did slice one cable on the trailer and bought this similar replacement. Search Amazon for: Reese Towpower 7007500 Safety Cable,40" , Black $19 ANY backup in the front to the winch/strap will work whether it s cable or nylon like mine. A chain like you mention would work perfect. You only need it to stop the ski from leaving the trailer if you had a catastrophic failure of the winch strap while trailering. Does this answer your question? Did I get it right this time? Bob
I have a 2013 VXR 1.8 HO I forget how many hours 180-220. I've only changed battery 2x spark plugs 1x and oil every fall. Thing is a beast and doesn't use much fuel. They were only 14.5k cad new now prices are getting out of hand hopefully I'm good for 10 more years it is a Yamaha 🤞
I agree with everything you say and I have thought about getting a newer ski but then I say “why” my 2020 looks and performs like new… thanks for watching and commenting! Bob
Google: WaveEater Towing Water Supply Valve for All Yamaha 4 Stroke WaveRunners on Amazon. It is simple a on/off valve made for this specific job but any cheaper valve would work also!
I do not have any personal experience with this issue but I did a little research and they make mildew remover that you can wash the seats, spray them down will mildew remover to clean them up. If you ask this question on one of the jet ski forums, I expect you will get a better answer than mine. Thanks for watching and I wish I could offer more specific advice....
There is a video or two on that… see if this helps…. Installing a 7" LOWRANCE Elite TI2 Chart Plotter/Fishfinder GPS on a 2020 Yamaha FX WaveRunner ua-cam.com/video/6kS-LNrCBM8/v-deo.html.
John: That’s the one question I do not know the answer to.... based on what I read at the GG site it has to be G2. The. Bottom is so slick when wet the ski kept sliding off the trailer when I loaded. I am going out today and will practice unloading and loading it...I think I will need to start the engine prior to removing the bow strap to keep ski on trailer until I am ready to back off. When loading I will leave engine on until I do the bow strap.
No, I had it installed at my dealer during one of my services.... You can get valve at lowes or this one on Amazon: "WaveEater Towing Water Supply Valve for All Yamaha 4 Stroke WaveRunners"
I'm new to PWC, and am now looking at a 160 Ultra Kawasaki. I like the heavy fiberglas V hull design. But, I like the Yamaha 1.8 HO engine better than Kaw's 1500 cc powerplant. If I could get Yamaha's engine in the Kawi's hull, that would be perfect. I've been told the Yamaha hull is not very durable. I doubt that Gator Glide will prevent the next rotating rock puncture incident.
I don’t know anything about Kawasakis but the 1.8 Yamaha engine is bullet proof and the hulls in the 22+ years are better than the 19-21 years. Gator glide may have mitigated the rock rotation incident a little. I am releasing a GG review video next week… Good luck in your decision. Bob
386 hrs on my HO engine, no issues all salt water. Still runs like a clock.. i run Amsoil so I highly recommend it. In my personal opinion yamalube is junk
I have a VX Ho with the same engine and you are right. I try to keep it under 6000 RPM to get the best fuel economy. Most of my riding is done in the ocean and there is so many things out there that you can hit as well as the rough water that an SVHO is pointless. Slightly more power/top speed with more fuel consumption and the added expense at the pump makes it an easy choice. Especially with the fuel prices here in Canada. My buddy's SVHO costs well over $200 to fill.
Yes, added costs in maintenance and fuel prices... the times I have throttle pegged and going 59 mph, I can never imagine going another 10-15 mph faster for any good reason! lol Bob
Yeah I keep that mark there to remind from where I came... hahhahahaha... Part II of this review where we see i we see if we have lost top end speed drops tomorrow at 0800. Thanks for watching and also for having a scuff mark like mine!

Wow, thanks! I like that kind of feedback.... you know... I need to do all of my videos in the driveway! :-) thanks for watching and I hope you subscribed! Bob
Wow, this was by far the coolest video I’ve watched from personal insight of ownership
Thanks… I have about 280 hours on the ski now and no real change… next service is 300 hours.
See: 2021 Yamaha VX Cruiser HO WaveRunner
ua-cam.com/video/KYTxlJGXbtw/v-deo.html It’s very stable, as dry as ride as the FX, faster, more nimble and a great ski.
You will notice it does not seem as substantial/big up front; other than that not much I would say. I cannot comment on the Seadoo!
The trailer part helped me. I also like hearing insurance cost and service intervals.

Seems popular in Florida
...I love being prepared as well.
Bob
Thanks. I was just at my Yamaha dealer ordering a ‘25 FX cruiser HO and we discussed where the valve would go but we weren’t sure
@@billk6772if the Yamaha tech is unsure where to place find a different service dealer! Hahahahaha
It was actually the sales guy (who happened to be a Sea Doo guy) Sorry for the confusion

Well that's a pleasant comment to see as I pass the time due to this hurricane! Thank you and welcome aboard!
Bob
Thanks, your video just made my decision to get the FX HO verses the supercharged SVHO. Thanks, very informative video!
Bob
Where did you get the trailer safety chain up front. It’s very nice
We’ll message you when we get down that way to see if you’re ever interested. -Mike
Mike: first thank you watching the videos and I am super happy you find them helpful. The ramp location is always in the written description for each video.
:-) Bob

Can you share more about the gator glide ? How many coats ? Was hull prepped/ sanded ? No high siding in turns ?

Agree Robert every time I see a dock I see a new nick or rub...even as I deploy bumper guards, etc! ha! I finally quit worrying and do the best I can... I treat the ski as a tool like my daily driver more than I treat it like the weekend car in the garage. :-) Bob

Hi Bob, are you going to do a 3 year update on the ski? How’s it treating you?
Stu: While I have thought about it, I rewatched that video from a year ago and can honestly say NOTHING has changed in the last 12 months. And I don’t want to just do a video and not provide anything useful just for views. Maybe I had the 200 hour service after filming that video but nothing remarkable. I am approaching the 250 hour service so maybe if something interesting is found then I will do an update to that video. The ski looks the same and runs the same. 60' as well.... I always find it is more important for all my riding partners to have one!!!!! I am carrying one for them! hahahahhaha
Bob

Depends on the trailer I am sure, but mine is 15'8".... Thanks for watching
We use automotive 3M tape to protect our frames on mountain bikes. Wonder how protective it'd be for pwc contact areas?
Thanks for watching…. I do not think the tape would do much to protect the hull or keel but I am no expert. Really only a keel guard or a coating like gator glide will enhance the hull’s strength. Bob
Which Gator Glide formula did you use? I didn't know they made a clear one.
Cannot give you a fact based answer as Jeff Butler on FB did it - his business. But I believe it was G2 as it is very slick. Mine is a black color
Do you condition your seats?
Bob
@@BobBroeking
Thanks Bob 😊
Hello ! How many hours does your FX have now ?
274 I think…
after watching this video again, I had a stock yamaha battery like you and mine lasted almost 4 years, because i used a trickle charger that keeps the battery charged up and doesn't over charge it. Once the charger reaches a full charge it holds the charge to the top line of the battery and doesn't go over it. Thats why my cheap yamaha battery lasted so long. 😊
Trust me that battery even on a trickle charger will go when you least expect it.... 4 years is way past its half life...hahahhaha
@@BobBroeking
What battery do you recommend, when I get my new FX? One that will actually last 4 years. 🤣
@@BobBroeking
When I get my new FX HO, I would love to come down and ride with you Bob.
@@BobBroeking
I agree, No maintenance batteries are best 👍
I found a used one Apr. 2024 the 'Kawasaki green' one w/50 hrs. on it.. hoping it will be a blast.. had a smaller sea doo a few yrs. ago.
and think a bigger ride will be more comfy.
Thanks for watching Ning and congratulations on the find! Enjoy the ski and have fun and be safe! Bob
Very nice video! Thank you for the information!
👍😎😳 Bob
Thanks for the link 👍
It's one of those things that I've had on my bucket list for ages but everyone always tells me I'm insane.
It seems like the greatest open water distance to cross is about 130 miles, which really doesn't sound so crazy anymore
(and obviously this is not a 1 man operation).
@@jakke1975 definitely a planned group expedition that is well planned with backup…. Agree… if you develop a suggested route send it my way. A major planning factor would be clearing all of the different customs and immigration ports of call and getting good gas, etc. interesting challenge!
What's your trailer boarding step info? Where did you buy?
This is the e best $29 investment I have ever made: MaxxHaul 70089 Steel Trailer Step , Black. - search on Amazon and let me know if you have trouble finding and I’ll send a link… I am mobile right now. Thanks for watching! Bob
How do you like the gator glide do you think it’s a good long term solution
@@horizon2200 I hear you there... Jeff did mine...
Remember I have the oil extraction pump if you want us to do your oil change, Yamalube kit on Amazon was $50 last time I did both of mine.
Yep, I know its easy (and certainly cheaper) but I also like to take advantage of the Yamaha tech giving everything a once over as they know what kind of riding I do... I also don't do oil changes in the cars.... I know...sad but true...:-)
I dont do oil changes on the vehicles either
Great honest review. Thanks for the info
Glad it was helpful! If you have any other questions let me know. Bob
Can I ask why you applied the gator glide?
Did you have small scuffs and scratches?
@@levin2502 they probably hit something like sand at speed if it’s around then Intake grate… don’t ask me how I know…
What kind of gas do you use? I've heard mixed opinions
I use regular 87 octane gas…! Thanks for watching!
Subbed. Great job.
Bob
The waterspout means the engine is cooled with the water your in rather then water cooled from a radiator
Yamaha 1800 is the best engine, Performance/Fuel is the best from all Jetski - for offshore fishing amazing
Pretty rock solid power plant and platform… agree. Thanks for watching. Bob
@@BobBroeking True true, so i got the silver color it's arriving end of May, im more now into HO, thanks Bob!!!
@ Bobbroekiing where did u get that step for your trailer?

How do you like the cruiser seat Bob?
I’m just over 6’ and am wondering if I will fit on this type of seat ok….enough room? Currently deciding on cruiser vs regular FX.
Yes I am 6’2” with long legs and have plenty of room… I can switch my positions frequently to stay fresh. Thanks for watching !
Bob
@@BobBroeking thanks so much. Sounds like that cruiser seat will suit me just fine.
? Wrong video? :-)
Bob
@@BobBroeking thanks a lot
I have a 2013 VXR 1.8 HO I forget how many hours 180-220. I've only changed battery 2x spark plugs 1x and oil every fall. Thing is a beast and doesn't use much fuel. They were only 14.5k cad new now prices are getting out of hand hopefully I'm good for 10 more years it is a Yamaha 🤞

What is the green valve? I put in a ball valve but it’s clunky, I like yours better and if they have them at lowes,I’d like to replace!!
Google: WaveEater Towing Water Supply Valve for All Yamaha 4 Stroke WaveRunners on Amazon. It is simple a on/off valve made for this specific job but any cheaper valve would work also!

How do I clean the mildew/mold off my white seat on the FX? I always cover too fast and the seats still wet.

Can you talk about your chart plotter?
There is a video or two on that… see if this helps…. Installing a 7" LOWRANCE Elite TI2 Chart Plotter/Fishfinder GPS on a 2020 Yamaha FX WaveRunner
ua-cam.com/video/6kS-LNrCBM8/v-deo.html.
What gator glide did you use G2 or G4
John: That’s the one question I do not know the answer to.... based on what I read at the GG site it has to be G2. The. Bottom is so slick when wet the ski kept sliding off the trailer when I loaded. I am going out today and will practice unloading and loading it...I think I will need to start the engine prior to removing the bow strap to keep ski on trailer until I am ready to back off. When loading I will leave engine on until I do the bow strap.
Does the toe valve come factory?

Bob

Yes, added costs in maintenance and fuel prices... the times I have throttle pegged and going 59 mph, I can never imagine going another 10-15 mph faster for any good reason! lol Bob
