Riding the Tennessee River 2024!
We love riding the Tennessee River so much, that we are going to do this every year! Come along with us as we embark on yet another journey down one of the most scenic waterways in the country. This trip brought a few challenges which led to one of the longest days that I have spent on the water in a long time. Normally, this trip would take about 5 hours including 2 fuel stops and a trip through the locks at Nickajack Dam. Instead, it took us over 10 hours. Come along and find out why.

    Two tips.....bend the vanes the right way and use "flat" DENTAL FLOSS to keep them pointing in the right direction. One the the impeller is in, snip the dental floss and pull out. Don't forget there is a "O" ring on the pulley side that should be replaced at the same time..Replaced my impeller but after putting it together, the pulley shaft had a small leak. Replaced the "O"Ring"...no leak

    Our supercharged skis use TWICE as much fuel as our base model skis. TR-1 vs. SVHO...it's not even fair. Human nature and an engine twice as big. Plus if you need a higher octane for a supercharger...your dollar per mile is just silly compared to a base engine. Don't buy into his PR.

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg 6 днів тому

      @@cowlumbus That is not a fair comparison. The TR-1 is a much smaller engine in addition to not being supercharged. If you want to be fair about it, compare your SVHO to a machine with the 1.8. you will find that the fuel consumption is much closer.

    Hi Captain Frank and thanks for the video. I just purchased a 2024 FX Cruiser HO and want to install a chart plotter. Unfortunately, Boondocks is out of production for a few months so I have to wait until they make the mounts. How has the install held up? I saw a posting from someone that also used a Boondocks mount but his console developed cracks. Have you had a similar experience or seen anyone with a waverunner have problems with cracking? This video is such a great reference. Its nice seeing all of the questions, comments, and number of views. This particular crossbar mount simply bolts on without any modifications to the PWC. The mount adds strength, prevents rotation and creates device attachment points, but is not indestructible. I am aware of one person in the Chicago area with a GPS mounted on a left sided aluminum plate of mine (not a crossbar mount) on a 2019 FX. He liked to jump big waves on Lake Michigan. He ended up cracking the plastic on his dash after two years of use. I am also aware of another person in south Florida with a 2019 FX that bolted a large aluminum back splash over his Garmin and to the crossbar mount. He also had cracking. The aluminum backsplash was purchased out of NZ. I dont like those aluminum backsplash covers because they are heavy and they create a large surface for water to push against when a wave goes over the bow. Waverunners are often used in harsh marine environments. Some people like to "ride hard" and other people may find themselves in the middle of a fast developing weather storm. Making the mounting parts is just a hobby for me. I have a 2021 FX and I'm using my crossbar mount with a D RAM system up on the Great Lakes. Its wonderful. I am picky and only sell parts that I would use myself. They are rugged and strong. I would rather not sell a part then have somebody complain about cracking that was caused by dynamic forces against the thin dash plastic during use in inclement operating conditions. I would be interested in reading the post about the cracked console. Please send the post details my way when you have time, thanks.

    If I was the type person who replaces their ski every 4 or 5 years, I would consider a Seadoo. But I am not. I have a 2013 VXR with 115 hours that I have had no issues with and I plan to run it until I do. I had about 6 Seadoos before my Yamaha.

      @@Fluterra It goes back several years when they apparently were legally challenged on the power output of their motorcycles. Since then, they have chosen not to advertise it as a selling point for pretty much anything. Even when they disclose it on title paperwork, it is understated. Great review! Thanks for sharing. Looking at 2024 FX SVHO and SeaDoo 325 RXTX. Currently have a 2023 GP1800R SVHO and 2018 SeaDoo RXT 300 - like them both for what they do. Looking to replace the 2018 SeaDoo with another cruiser and was set on Yamaha FX SVHO but then SeaDoo came out with the 325... would be great to test drive a FX SVHO but no dealer really let's you do that - Curious on your thoughts as to how the FX SVHO compares to the ride of the SeaDoo 300/325 RXTX.... like the reliability of the Yamaha but just not familiar with the FX ride..

      @@richardjackson1745 SeaDoo makes a nice machine and they are known to be very comfortable. For me, I chose the Yamaha because of better reliability and efficiency. Of course, how you ride makes a difference too. I am happy enough with the SVHO and I am not looking to try to squeeze out another 5 mph of top speed. While the new 325 is no faster than the SVHO as a stock machine, if you are one of those guys that plans on tuning and modding your ski to make it go as fast as possible, it seems that Sea Doo has done some of the work for you with the new engine design. That could be worth something too.

    I wiuld recoment putting the rear strap off to the sides of the trailer. That way it holds the ski down to the trailer incase the front strap gives out. The way you have it starped in the video if the front strap was to break the rear strap is going to go loose and not do anything at all to hold the ski onto the trailer.

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg Місяць тому

      @@catfisher420 not a bad idea but that's why you should always have two straps on the front. The strap built into the trailer is mainly for recovering the PWC from the water. Of course, it can hold the ski onto the trailer too but there should be an additional bow secure point.

    1.8L Yamaha engines Cracking heads, VERY common both SC and NA. Been cracking heads since SHO came out. Take a minute and look it up. Do not buy a used 1.8L at all. Do Not buy new one without a warranty. If you do you risk trashing your engine every 200 hrs or so. Just the labour is 20 hrs. Huge bill for parts. 90% people will not be able to do at home.

    • @TheShipsLogg
      @TheShipsLogg Місяць тому

      Okay, lets address some facts here. Yes, Yamaha did have a cracking issue with their heads but that was primarily on skis that had been modified. The issue was very rare in stock skis and almost non existent in stock NA skis. I'm sure you know that when someone adds boost or make other changes to get those higher RPM's things can happen. Basically, when you do that, you are pulling more power out of the engine that the manufacturer originally designed it to make. It doesn't mean that it cant do it but it will not be as reliable. This applies to any type of an engine whether it be a jet ski, car, or boat. Furthermore, Yamaha changed the castings for the 1.8 heads starting with the 2021 models to eliminate the issue.

I wish i knew the truth when my SVHO had cylinder head cracked the 1st time, i thought it was one off too, but when it cracked again and 7 others around me in my area (all stock), I started doing my own research. I have seen many bone stock 1.8 L skis including mine that cracked heads, A LOT OF THEM. Again: Not uncommon. Again: on BOTH SC and NA. Again been happening for a very long time, ever since 1.8L SHO came out. . Yamaha Did Not change casting in 2021, they revised a part # and called it a change, for the head and the heads were still cracking until 2024 when 1.9L came out Nothing to do with more power , mods, heat stress or any other issues. The problem is : 1: bad head casting 2. thin block walls too thin (same as some newer outboards with thin block walls) =Simply cost cutting on alloys. .
