- If your pwc of choice is a Yamaha Waverunner, you are probably familiar with the visibility spout. Maybe you call it a pisser or maybe you just refer to it as a water jet shooting in the air. Whatever you choose to call it, why is it there? Maybe you have already disabled it. Maybe you are thinking about disabling it or wondering if you can. Well, you don't have to; or at least not permanently. Let me show you on a 2021 Yamaha FX Cruiser SVHO how you can set it up where you can turn it on and off whenever you want.
I like it because it lets everyone know you bought a Yamaha
That is true. As soon as you see the pisser, you know it's a Yammy!! 😁
Hey Captain Frank, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for this fantastic idea. You don't realize how embarrissing this water flow can be until you pull up some where and turn around and spray everybody sitting on the dock with a drink in their hand. I like the option of being able to turn it off and on. Since I performed this conversion on mine, I have had no problems and noticed that its not a partial reduction in water flow its a complete stoppage of the water flow. Keep this great intel coming.
Great video thank you. I've done this on my Waverunners for twenty years and it's a great option. I usually leave it on when the kiddos are out by themselves so I can better see them out on the lake, but when we are towing I turn it off. It's nice to have the option for any situation.
Great video captain Frank! I used a small brass ball valve from my local hardware store. I plan to pull a tube this summer and thought it would be best to turn it off when tubing.
Awesome! If the tuber wants to cool off, you can always turn it back on! LOL
Hey Capt Frank! Great video. That water spout was one of the reasons I went Sea Doo. I'll have to check to see what other jet ski parts so can find cheap at Lowes!
I know that many Yamaha owners simply disconnect the hose and let it hang so the water spout does not work.
There is no negative effect from just pulling the hose off for good.
Good info! I always thought that was the engine cooling line like my jet boat has and it was there so you can readily see that it is flowing and there is no blockage.
Joe, I don't think you are the only one that has thought that. Actually, the cooling water for this model comes out on either side just forward of the rider which is great because you can see it when you are riding.
@@TheShipsLogg I thought the same thing up until just now. Lol!! Captain Frank, could you do a video of how the cooling system works on these Waverunners? I'm trying to diagnose an overheating problem on a 97 GP760. I'm new to jet skis but I've learned alot so far. I've rebuilt the carbs and tuned them on 3 different Waverunners so far!!
@@TheVenom8343 wow!! Very nice! Sounds like you are well on your way to being a good PWC mechanic!!! I'll put that idea on my list!!
@@TheShipsLogg Well, I figured out the overheating problem. It had a little perfect sized pebble lodged into the little water intake hole at the jet pump. I'm assuming that is the water intake point because it's not running hot now.
Awesome video thanks for sharing have seen others but your technic is the simplest and best in my opinion I’ll be during this to my FX this weekend.
Awesome!!!!
Thank you I did this to mine, my fx cruiser svho and the people at the dock loved that I did I didn’t know I was spraying them but now I turn it off or on when in ocean. So great video easy install shown and thanks for all your video’s love them
Thanks for the comment. Enjoy your riding without spraying your dock neighbors!! 🤣
Thank you Cap. I want to install this valve on my FX and was looking for some good advice.
You are welcome!
Nice… exactly what I needed to learn
I am so doing this on both of my Yams! I have one that is connected and one that isn’t so this is great!
Awesome!!!
Thanks for this video! I’ve got this same machine and will be installing this valve on my machine this weekend.
Were you able ti install valve?
Good video if you want you could install a 12 volt solenoid like a washing machine has
and have a switch in glove box to turn it off and on
Oh, now you're gettin' fancy!! I love that idea though!!
I used that exact same Rain bird valve, it only lasted one season before the valve body (that green part) blew out. You will want a stronger valve!
So far, mine has lasted 2 years in salt and fresh water. We'll see how much longer it lasts.
there is a more robust valve made. I think its like 20 bucks@@TheShipsLogg
@@jimcloud74 I am sure there is. The one I used works well but I don't know how long it will last. I just got another ski and I will try a different one on this ski.
Nice sir! I originally got a cheap valve and it blew apart. Happy riding! @@TheShipsLogg
I used a rubber stopper. Simply has a little ring bigger than the hole you just press it in there. No idea what it is, found it laying around my garage for some plumbing. I put storage bags on the back of my vx limited and it just sprays everywhere so I told it to shut it's trap. Also, nice photo of La Jument, one of my faves.
LOL!! That's right! Show it who's boss!!
That is one of my fav pics as well.
Another great video.
This is a great idea idea.
Thanks for this and all your videos. Constructive criticism, instead of saying over and over make sure you cut it long enough to clear the gate, you could have simply said, I cut it 3" from the top so it wouldn't interfere with the gate. (my .02)
Good point. I did try to avoid giving specifics just in case someone else has a different model Yamaha and the measurement is different. Thanks for watching and thanks for your 2 pennies! 😁
Can you be more specific about the size of the valve? Is there any risk the water goes back inside the engine?
Another very informative video ! Thanks 😊
Thanks Click JP!
New sub here, this is a great hack, tubers will love it too!
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for subscribing!
Great video, i will be doing that to both of mine, thanks for sharing
You are welcome! To me, its a no brainer! Enjoy!
Masterpiece Presentation
Thank you!!
Thank you sir! Another very informative video.
You are welcome!
Thanks for this awesome idea.
You are welcome!
Thanks for that great idea. I have a question hope you can help me figure it out. I have a 2015 Yamaha Waverunner V1 and it comes with no ladder or step to get back on the ski. Any ideas on how I can install an OEM ladder or step back there. Thanks in advance
There are some aftermarket ladders sold for jet skis. Some are similar to the OEM type that some PWC's come with and others are the much simpler rope ladder type. I would start by checking Partzilla to see what they have
That was really useful. Hope it’s as easy on my 2008 FXHO.
I'd love to know if it is the same on your machine as it is mine. Drop back after you have done it and let us know!
@@TheShipsLogg here in Scotland most skis are tucked away for the winter. Got mine out of the garage today to have a look and it certainly looks like it will be as easy. Just need to find a suitable tap to plumb in.
@@simonfr77 That's awesome! Let us know how it works out!!
Worked a treat. 13mm ball valve (£3.50) and a couple of stainless steel hose clips and 10 minutes later job is done. Easy to do. Washing up liquid advice was useful. Thanks very much 👍🏻
@@simonfr77 Awesome!! Glad it worked out for you. Now, its time to have some fun!
Well explained…thanks !
What happens to the water pressure coming from the pump when is turned off?
Instead of being routed through the hose for the waterspout, it just goes out the jet nozzle instead.
Is there any effect to engine performance etc.? Totally ok to turn it off? Thanks
No effect on engine at all.
But doesn’t the closing of the valve retain water that it’s meant to spit out? And damage
No, it does not. It just ends up coming out of the nozzle instead.
I have two questions, 1: Will adding a valve affect the original water flow pressure? 2: Will blocking it cause reverse flow of water?
No it will not. A lot of people just disconnect the hose and leave it hanging.
Anyone know where I could get a new hose? Want to put it back on
You can go to your local auto parts store and buy a length of rubber tubing and just cut it to the proper length.
@@TheShipsLogg yup, just thought it would be better to have a formed hose to help keep it clear of the reverse bucket
@@timsgarage1861 I don't think mine had a formed hose but I could be wrong. It's worth trying to see if a regular one works.
Getting my first waverunner it’s like your except I got the red and white one and that probably the first thing I’m doing to it
Awesome! You picked a great machine!
Cap let me know when you come out to Clark's hill lake here in Georgia.. i too got the fx svho. Great vids!
Will do!!!
Great video
Thanks!
What's the size on that hose/valve? 3/8"?
1/2 inch. It will be a tight fit sliding the hose onto the valve but that is what you want. I used a bit of dishwashing liquid to make it go on a bit better. A buddy of mine use KY Jelly and it worked as well. LOL!
@@TheShipsLoggastroglide would get a 1” fitting into that 1/2” hose
Does the valve installed in line affect the height of the water spout compared to the original waterspout before installing valve?
It does affect it a little bit but not much. I find myself riding with it off most of the time.
Thanks for the info. I have a 2016 vx limited. I have never had it piss. Hose is connected with no shutoff vale. What would you recommend I try.
So are you saying that the water spout has never worked? Are you trying to make it work or keep it shut off?
Great Idea! ... do you think this will break the warranty? I am getting a 201 VX HO, and I don't like to piss ppl off.
Definitely will not void the warranty.
What do you like better, that svho cruiser, or the 300 limited?
I definitely like the Cruiser better but that is just personal choice. I know there are a lot of people who would choose the 300.
Just cut it off. It has nothing to do with "visibility" It is purely marketing and brand recognition... If it were truly a safety benefit the others would have certainly copied it.. The valve is not the same ID as the tube causing a reduction in flow and only giving you half the "stream" you had before... Remove the hose at both ends and throw it away....
Steve. That is not the experience that I have had. However, I do agree that it is being used as a marketing device by Yamaha. Does it allow the machine to be more visible? I would say yes, but is it such a game changer that all PWC's should have it? If so, I think it would have been a requirement for all PWC's years ago. I think this is one reason why some love it and some hate it.
No no no, the water spout shows you that your engine is being cooled if you have no pee turn off your ski!!!!
@@ChristopherCatfisher You are absolutely wrong. Look it up.
@@ChristopherCatfisher just like on my Honda Outboard….
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement hose? Got my 17 VX limited used. Previous owner removed the hose completely. Just want to put it back on
Good idea-
Does this void warranty?
No, it does not. Most people just disconnect the hose and leave it hanging but it has no effect at all on how the Waverunner operates.
Are you an O6 retired?
No, I was not military but my dad was. If you are wondering where "captain" comes from, it's a nickname given to me by friends and family.
where are you located?
I am in Atlanta and do most of my boating and jet skiing on Lake Lanier.
lake Russell. Best kept secret in GA.
Gay Spray. ANY ski that comes to my shop, gets that removed first!
next time PLEASE try to go straight to the point, it is a struggle to listen you struggling to focus on a topic, I am 4 minutes in and we are still nowhere.
