    inexperienced referee
    you really have to take keenans point on refs very literally "how much bjj are these referees really doing?"
    you cant put craig back into position on xande's back and then physically swipe your hand down to signal "go"
    obviously craig cant see that the referee has swiped his hand in that manner because craigs head is behind xande's shoulder
    thats what craig was mad about, i dont think it was anything to do with the connection of the hands, the ref should of shouted a command so both players could HEAR him say go

      Once they decide to award points for pushouts, all these runners *cough* Leandro Lo *cough* will actually have to stay inside and do Jiu Jitsu instead of running out of bounds for 9 minutes, avoiding all action and bum rushing for a takedown the last 10 seconds to win the match on points. Screw that, have Palhares sit mat side for any high profile black belt finals. 3 warnings of avoiding action/inactivity and the culprit has to escape his fully locked heel hook.

      Watch it again. First Ribeiro wasn't even going to let Craig get behind him, until the ref forced it. Second Ribeiro wouldn't let him reach all the way through by moving his body forward. Lastly, Ribeiro didn't even let Craig connect his hands by putting his thumbs inside Craig's hands.
      Its dirty and anyone with a semblance of understanding about this sport knows that.
      I don't care who wins, I just want to see a good match with amazing techniques. We missed out on the opportunity to see either Ribeiro with an amazing escape or Craig with an amazing takedown or transition. But no, Ribeiro took the lazy way out and Craig had no opportunity to get the real position setup. Ribeiro lost the opportunity to show us his skill and abilities because he was scared. We were all losers because of that.

    There just seems something wrong about going up to an opponent and sitting down in front of them. I know it's mostly from the sport but it seems odd that we just cut out half of grappling by sitting down. Why not just start people from the knees if more and more folks just sit down?

    • @heath6809
      @heath6809 4 роки тому +4

      Starting from the knees is dumb. That is just watered down wrestling. If one person sits, at least it's still one person attempting to pass and one person playing guard, which is a huge part of Jiu-Jitsu.

    • @GridironMasters
      @GridironMasters 4 роки тому +1

      @@heath6809 What if there is a double guard pull? I like how in wrestling there is a period where they stand then they put them on the ground if they haven't already done so themselves. Jiujitsu is leaving out a huge part of grappling if it is going to let takedowns fall away.

    • @heath6809
      @heath6809 4 роки тому +1

      @@GridironMasters
      They're not letting takedowns fall away though. ADCC penalizes guard pulls in the 2nd round. Also if there is a double guard pull then they are going to be jockeying for leglock positions and I don't see anything wrong with that. Most of the time one or both guys is more than willing to take top position to attempt to pass though. Look at Gordon Ryan. He uses leglock positions from seated guard to sweep guys and get on top if there isn't a finish available, and when he gets on top he smashes guys.

    • @GridironMasters
      @GridironMasters 4 роки тому +3

      @@heath6809 I know that a lot of Jiu-Jitsu happens on the ground and in sport scenarios I understand when people bypass the takedowns. Like when there are no points takedowns are more expensive because of the energy and alot of common takedowns land people in guard. That's why I like less common takedowns like lateral drop variations, screw locks and cow catchers and takedown counters. These kinds of takedowns land me in side control rather than in guard.
      I like all kinds of grappling and I wish competition was framed in a way that standing grappling was as important as ground fighting.

      It doesn't matter what you think. Competitions have rules. He won within the rules. Craig was not able to do anything and lost on points. Probably the majority of matches end on points. Gordan Ryan just won absolute gold on a penalty point.... Xande won the match fair and square.

      @@philliprobinson129 my opinion does not change the official result of this match , u r correct, and i stated already i do not care about silly technicalities victory, all i see is xande could not do anything from the top half guard. i thought he was better than that, and i also thought he was not an athlete playing dumb with the ref.

    Ribeiro did what he had to win, although kinda cheap of him to deny Jones to lock his hands when he had Ribeiros back. Awesome leg attacks by jones absolutely amazing.

    Im sorry but starting on your ass just doesn't sit well w me. I think BJJ should always be a self defense strategy bf sport. This is why BJJ is starting fall when it comes to take downs. If you was in the street and had to protect yourself you are not gonna start out sitting on your ass. I know a lot may disagree but even in sport at least attempt a clinch a single a throw something in honor of BJJ
