I learned to crochet and knit partly because I knew I couldn't afford to pay someone to make things for me. It's so important to value artists and the work they produce.
I completely agree 💕
Your dress looks amazing, it has been fun watching the process. I am with you that the dress is being sold for way to cheap. It's crazy how the knock-off sites are now selling the dress for $90. There is no way the yarn artist is getting paid appropriately.
Yeah it’s horrible I don’t believe it 😭
So cute! Love the dress.
If you want the neckline a bit less droopy, just run a decrease row border all across the back neckline. Not the front though. That will pull it together and let the front neckline be the shape you want.
Greetings and salutations to Ben, too. Lol. He's a great sidekick.
That’s what I did I threw in some decreases in the corners and the back and it made a huge difference!
Thank you. Yes he is!
I love how this dress has inspired the whole yarn community. The instant attraction everyone has to this super cute dress is pretty amazing.
This is so fun to see. I love watching creative processes and seeing problem solving and error correction. Im a fairly new subscriber but was instantly hooked by your fun personality and approach.
Can't wait to see the matching dress for your adorable furbaby!
Thank you so much!! 💕💕
It has made a great craft fashionable and I love that the content is very much appreciated by the next generation to learn how to make something for you and your family
The dress is spectacular ,time frame to finish amazing and a dog sweater to boot, fantastic! You and your hubby complement each other so well, kudos to both of you. Thank you,for sharing your time and your doggy, last year mine crossed the rainbow bridge.❤
Thank you so much!!
I’m so sorry for your loss💕💕
20:00 totally agree with you. Is so sad when people want to buy handmade crochet clothes at ridiculous prices. That is my problem, so for that reason I can't sell anything 😢
I love how determined you were to figure out how to make this dress, and how excited and happy you were overall. On a side note, I just noticed that Briana K Designs has a full tutorial for those that want more detailed instructions/information on how to make one.
I’m working on one too!
So glad to meet a Nickleback fan !💓💓💓💓💓💓💓
Very cute! Beautiful work. Love that you made Ruthie one too!
Thank you!
New subscriber here and I throughly enjoyed this series on making this dress. I saw the pattern a couple of days ago and it caught my attention
❤ absolutely beautiful dress
Dress is cute. You can wear it to shows. You could consider the 18 inch doll version for sale
The dress turned out beautifully. I'll never get over how talented you are! Ru looks adorable too.
Thank you!! 💕💕
Hi I’m a new subscriber and I just wanted to let you know you did a great job on the dress and from what I’ve seen a great job on everything you do all the plushy‘s so I’m looking for to your channel💜💙🦋
Thank you so much!
Im so glad I found you!! Thoroughly enjoyed watching you make this dress. Looks fantastic on you!! I tend to see something or have a need for something, and I sit down and make one. I was "designing" hahaha, so many things, years ago, that are popular and being sold now. Oh well. I have the originals from early 2000s. However, I have not made a dress. This looks somewhat simple, yet time consuming. It might possibly be worth it to sell a little girl size for around 100 to 150 dollars. Def not adult size. Maybe for dolls or stuffed animals. Anyway.. loved watching, and happy to have discovered your channel. Subscribed. Liked. And shall share. Btw.. it has been a really hot summer in MO this year. About 112° yesterday with the heat thingy in the shade. Yuck. Thank you for all of your hard work making videos. And for reading my rambling. You and your hubby make an awesome team.
Thank you so much 💕💕
Great job!
Love those stitch markers!! Ordered 3 sets from Amazon!! And the dress came out so pretty!! I was watching another crocheter doing that dress but instead of orange, she used pink and it came out so pretty as well!! Tfs
The stitch markers are the best!!
Thank you!
Love the dress
Thank you!
Looking forward to Ben displaying it!
😅😅😅
I have heard about this dress and it is very nice to have a positive touch and it's a great way to keep up wonderful for the handmade world and I have a very good idea of how to get your self care and to be able to make a difference for the best for us to do something that is amazing and I gave blankets to charity shop for the community and I have had a blanket in a art show and I will be enjoying a relaxing time with my wool and imagination as I never make 2 the same
AMAZING DRESS 😀Fantastic work. I am so glad I found this video, so that I can follow you. I see some similarities with my own videos, - not that I have ever made a dress before, but... I will definitely keep watching your videos.
Aww thank you! 💕
This dress is such a good reminder how much work goes into something like this. It would be awesome to see someone like Taylor pay the person who made this dress what it is actually worth if it wasn’t made by her or her mum or a family friend.
Thank you. Yeah I agree
Hi Sara, awesome job! Looks amazing on you. I’m going to try to make one out of light weight cotton for Granddaughter (2 yrs). Yours looks very warm, I bet it would pair up in the fall/winter with leggings and boots. Thank you for taking the time to show us all the steps you went through.
Yes it’s gonna be great for the winter. Cotton is gonna be perfect for it
The dress came out amazing! 😍
Thank you!
I think you did an awesome job , it is a little big on you , but it will look amazing in autumn 🍁
Thank you. It’s supposed to be big but I think the yarn isn’t helping. It probably would have been better in a lighter weight yarn to look more flowy like hers
You did great with the dress! I agree, this will be great in the fall. I am waiting for my daughter who is 24 and a huge TS fan to ask me to make her one. Wondering if that was Longwood Gardens that you were wandering around?
Thank you so much. It is longwood!
Your dress looks amazing
Love your version of the dress. Looks fantastic on you. Good job! 💖
Thank you!
Really cute! I ❤ it. I love Ruthie’s outfit too! 😊
Thank you!
That dress is amazing. Well done you.
Thank you!! 💕💕
Looks great on you, you did such a good job I just love when you post ❤❤❤
Thank you!💕
You are so creative! You did such a great job with this dress. And you created a matchy for the poochie! Super cute. I am inspired with your videos. Keep it up!😊
Thank you so much!! 💕💕
So glad you made this ..can’t wait for the tutorial..looking good girl
Thank you!!
you did an amazing job on the dress you awesome thank you for amazing video i love your you tube vidoes
Thank you so much!💕
Watching you make your dress while making a cardigan for myself.... Tracks.
Love that
Great job 👏
Thank you!
A tutorial would be nice thank you
Love the dress Sarah!!!!!! ❤
Thank you!!
@@crochetvision that dress just makes me wanna make it lol. OMG. The colors are so pretty. I didn't even notice that she was wearing it until you pointed it out
Amazing dress! ❤
Thank you!!
This Earthling says hi back. The first pair you opened are best. I saw one of the quilters have the same issue with the cost of store quilts. Those Chinese don't get paid very much for making stuff.
Wow love it 😍 great job
Thank you!
i love it , sure i will make it 🥰🥰🥰🥰
It would be so cute with a belt. 😊 You did such a great job!
Thank you!
I love it!
It's beautiful 😊
Your amazing love it
Thank you!
Hello! Love this video and this dress! Can you, or anyone, tell me will the steam blocking make a difference permanently? Will it still be in the better way after laundering? Thank you 😊
I honestly don't know. I haven't washed it yet. I only wore it for the video and I haven't worn it since. But I will make sure to put it in a video when I know more. I believe so but I'm not entirely sure
It's so cute
Thank you!
Ruthie is so stinkin cute!
Thank you!!
I am a product of the 70's and the gold chunky shoes nail it!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Is the dress (THE dress, I mean) currently available for $120? Because I figured TS team said it was $120, but it was really gifted or loaned to TS to conspicuosly wear (you know, like awards season dresses) and the whole $120 thing was made up or was the shipping cost or total pr bs something.
Granted, I'm a knitter. So, your crochet granny stripes probably work up faster, but I probably need a little less yarn, blah blah... six of one, half dozen of the other. But anyway... If I had made that dress in a knit variant, I couldn't have sold it for less than $300... but probably closer to $500.
I agree: this $120 pricetag being bandied about has the potential to really hurt the creative community, in general, and the fiber arts community, specifically. 😢
It’s sold out but that’s what the website says it it was.
The dress is beautiful. I still can't believe that the person who made the original dress charged so little.
Me neither
Is that the $22 steamer? I think I bought that one too! Twinsies!
How would you do the panels for a child’s 10 or med
Lion Brand has come out with a version of this dress done in cotton. Yours is a better dupe. But. Cotton.
Yes! I agree cotton I was just trying to use what I had! 💕
"Little garden near us" 🤣
Longwood Gardens
😬😬😬 ok so maybe little wasn’t the right word 😂😂
In looking at the VRG Girl website, I can see that it is an Australian site. The clothing is DESIGNED in Australia and crafted by their "team". It does not say where the dress was made and maybe Australia does not have a law that mandates that information be available. I conclude this dress was manufactured in China or some other "slave wage/slave labor" country. Have you seen any other information about that? It would certainly explain the price.
I’ve seen this dress made by other people before them. I doubt they “designed it” the granny stripe stitch isn’t new. I haven’t found any more information about it. I’m just disappointed
@@crochetvision Me too! I just looked it up to see if it was being ethically sourced and how the heck they could make it for that price. Which they can't, ethically. I was referencing the website: "Designed in Australia" is one of their taglines. It didn't occur to me to think they invented the granny stripe 🤣
I’m working on it too making it and I spent $70 on yarn and then my time I would charge no less than $300 for the dress
I agree. 💕
Too cute
Thank you!
The rows for the sleeve is actually for the width not length.
You are so right , every one will think they can get something for nothings. Kick in the butt 😢
It’s heart breaking
I would decrease that neckline a little more. Other than that, it's perfect ❤❤❤❤❤ but suga, I'm old.........so what do I know?❤❤❤❤❤
Ruthie Swift!
YESS
We know that is sauce for $99 but for 3 Days pay that be like $300
I don’t wear dresses but I may just make it into a cardigan
I was thinking the same thing it’d be so cute as a cardigan
My sale savviness is benefit to me, that doesn't roll over to someone buying stuff from 🤷🏼♀️
Crochet community should understand the original dress was not made in The USA.
I know but not everyone does especially the people who want to buy it
Please understand that's outsourcing for cheaper labor.
The original dress comes from Australian label VRG GRL. The state that they only deal with manufacturers who meet ethical trade initiatives. The dress was made in China, probably in Guandong Province. The average hourly wage would be equivalent to USD $3.
The original retails at $129 then its cost to the retailer is likely about $45-$50. Even if you said the materials were $5 and take off the manufacturers profit. There is no way a worker is getting a living wage for the amount the dress has to made for to have even a poor standard of living. Even if you said it took a super worker to complete the dress in 10hrs. Those are not livable wages.
If I was pricing this would suggest at least $20 yarn. Hours to complete would be 15-20. So let’s say 20 hours to make. So to cover overheads etc you would need to retail this for $1000 to give yourself a profit.
Is sad.
@@crochetvisionI always ask about who owns the shop etc and I will be enjoying making the blanket for the community as I do not shop on line and I am glad to see it being a little bit of an craft of our ancestors and we are all very proud of
Alot of crocheted are doing that DRESS.
Yes we are
I thought the sleeves were attached by like a mesh stitch so it was sort of bare in between if you know what I mean 😂
Forget the stuffies you could make a fortune making the dresses!!!!
I’ll stick with the stuffies
The dress was made in a Chinese sweatshop. Of course you can't compete with that. They probably paid the worker $5 a dress.
I feel like if you're going to do anything obviously you can't sell the pattern but I would not sell the dress at all why because number one is someone else's design number two is because it takes too long for a person to make number three is too expensive and they can get it for cheaper
Yup this was just for fun!
Longwoood Gardens
Mayyyyybe 💕
I'll let you know that there are people out there literally making dresses crocheted dresses and they're not cheap either
Taylor Swift can afford actually ethically sourced things and yet 100$ for a crocheted dress? Girl please. 🙄
Anyway your work is already better because the worker knew it was a passion project lol
Thank you💕
Oh I’m more excited to see the cloak tutorial now. How exciting. Taylor Swift dress is too 70s for me.
It’ll probably be closer to winter. But I’ll definitely be making it. It’s a side quest now 😂
@@crochetvision your business has to come first. Seeing as it’s summer for you it’s prime market season.
I’m in Australia hopefully when you release it we will have a cooler summer so I can work it up for our next winter. It takes me a while to finish things so even if you did release it now I probably wouldn’t be done before this winter ends for us.
It’s a cute dress ( looks great on you) but not so much on this 73 year old ,4-11 , old body.😜😜 sweater for me !!😂😂😂
I think it would be lovely
Why didn’t you use prettier colors? These colors don’t look good they don’t match.
Because I was making Taylor’s dress. Those are the colors of her dress. Thank you
looks to big for you and the neck and shoulders drop to much lol we need the hole pattern to follow so much easyer
That’s the look I was going for. I wanted it slouchy. I’m working on the whole tutorial. Coming soon
Ok, it took you 3 days to make, but you were reverse designing from a picture. The original was probably from a pattern, so it would cut down on time by a lot. I still agree that it is too low a price, but there were other factors that need to be taken into account.
I honestly don’t think it would have cut down on the time too much maybe hour at the start and another for the sleeves. It’s very simple in design
