Like guitar it’s a two handed thing so you gotta be strategic to get a hand free to reach the 404 knobs…I had the sax player in a band I was is running thru the mic input at the front n I was working the djfx, it fits sax well I think

Gawd dammit, man! I've heard some of these tracks, but the way you laced them all together is masterful. Great mix also, everything is gelled together and cohesive. #4 still takes me back to the late 80's/early 90's, hitting up the arcades with a pocket full of coins and a fucked up haircut. I probably had an undercut, wearing doc martins n thinking computer graphics couldn’t get any better...glad you dug it, 100% the secret sauce to getting all these beats to sit together was putting them on cassette as part of my mastering chain. They all sort of had something in common sonically...cheers man!

I will say this, figuring out what order to put 17 tracks, then mastering them to fit together then spelling all their names right when uploading them to distrokid was a huuuuge mission for my little brain.
@@Nonjuror Haha yeah them track names must have been a struggle. Sounds really nice quality wise! Good when you can listen to a tape and play it straight back again. Did you do any processing to it before you recorded it to tape?
So much spelling...so much coffee. I did do a bunch of processing pre and post tape, my mastering chain has a few different compressors in it (instead of smashing it with one limiter, I have different compressors doing only like 1-2db of comp). The end of my chain is a limiter - I put the beats on tape just before that step, then used that last limiter to get all the beats as close to as loud as each other.

Thanks heaps dude!! When I bought the replacement pads I also bought a spare chassis thinking I was going to figure out how to cut actual wood for a top plate and glue it on...but I haven’t yet. So I glued my old stock 404a pads on instead for this photo
Do you mind sharing the song structure? Im trying to decipher intro, main, main breakdown, new loop, back to main and breakdown? I struggle with structure. do you build the beat first and then mess with the effects and mutes to resample as a song? Sorry for all the questions just curious to learn when I receive my mk2 tomorrow.
I like to build my main pattern with the main sample + drums and copy that to pad 15, then make a copy of that with just the drums onto pad 16. From there I experiment with adding other elements (strings or guitar or sfx) to a copy of the main pattern - then make a copy of that deleting the main sample so it’s just the added elements and drums only. Then probably have a copy that is just main sample with no drums…I take all these and try to find an order to play them that to builds up, brings down then brings back up again the energy…set that up in a Pattern Chain then you’re ready to mess with performance fx. Hope that made sense!

I feel like I'm operating blindly. No grid. Also I keep getting stuck in pattern mode and can't record samples. I can't go from sample record to normal beat making mode easily either. I keep getting stuck in menus basically.
