When ever I start growing out my hair it starts to look thinner. After some time, I always come back to the short bob and each time its cut, I get the most compliments.
One of the biggest things I've learned from having thin hair is the importance of keeping it as healthy as possible. Not brushing it when wet, not using heat, finding the most light-weight all-in-one hair serums, customizing a perfect volumizing routine including dry shampoo, optimizing my ingredient lists for minimum buildup (sulfate-free, paraben-free, are usually my only priorities, I've seen a noticeable difference in my hair, not everyone has the same experience and for some hair types sulfates can actually be beneficial but for my fine hair that's thin, oily roots but dry scalp and dry ends, this is what works best for me.)
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet I'm truly sorry to hear that, I know that sometimes no matter what the regimen, thin hair has a way of prevailing no matter what. I think for those who have very thin, straight hair, vintage curling methods such as rollers might be helpful. Done right, they can create an insane amount of volume, and unlike heat curls they tend not to fall during the day and they definitely don't flatten out easily. I have very thick hair so I can't say for sure, but I've seen it work on others.
You are absolutely right. Thank you very much for the reminder, I totally forgot about that. Just found my old velcros and will roll at least my crown hair in the morning before going to work.
I saw a girl who couldn’t figure out why her hair looked so thin. It was half way down her back and didn’t look good, just straggly. She hadn’t had a trim in years, so Aly’s point 1 was exactly right. So I brush out her hair and go to separate it at the back of her head for trimming and found that about 1/2 way up, she had a whole other layer...underneath. Don’t know what made me ask because I’d never seen it before, but I asked if she wore a ponytail. She said she did, every day to keep her hair out of her face while she worked. So I’m adding: if you have thin hair, watch out for rubber bands. The whole lower half of her hair in the back had broken off right where the rubber band/pony holder was worn. She got a trim, quit wearing ponytails every day and within a couple of months it looked totally different.
I don't have breakage like that but because of work I wear my hair tied up every single day otherwise it gets in the way and it's in my face and I get all hot and sweaty so now I'm worried after reading your comment LOL. I've started putting my hair in a loose ponytail on the very top of my head to keep my hair from getting all messed up during sleep. As a side-effect, I've noticed my hair is more voluminous in the morning because it was on top of my head all night. This may be a tip, though I have a different hair-type and can't predict whether, how, or for how long this method would affect thinner, sleek hair.
I do this too. I do my bun right on top of my head, then my hair will fall more beautifully. But I guess everyone has to find out the best sleeping style themselves!
I used to do the same when my straight, sleek hair was medium long. If I was going out, I would wash my hair in the morning, wear it up in a ponytail all day, then do a little styling before going out. It's a lazy way, instead of using big curlers to give root lift! It doesn't really work now that my hair is very long.
I do the same thing every night except I put it in a high bun, not loose but not too tight. And it makes it pretty voluminous & big waves during the day. I have very thin hair.
Aly, everything you said about thin hair is truth. I agree with you, that the shape, colour, darker roots of your hair and thicker, darker eyebrows make really a difference. Your advices are so clever. Thank you!
Nice tips, but please do not mix up "thin" and "fine" hair. Thin hair means that you have sparse hair, less hair than average. The individual strands might thick or fine, but you have fewer strands than normal. Fine hair means the individual strands are fine aka not thick, but people with fine hair often have more hair aka strands than people with thick strands. The problem with fine hair though is that it is very soft and does therefore not hold volume well. The worst case is to have thin and fine hair...in any case, for each situation the solution is different...
Another worse case scenario here. Thin, fine and increasingly falling out. I have no colour in my hair now and I just can't make any decisions. My confidence is at all time low I so I need others to tell me lol
I have fine, thin, straight, brown-black Asian hair all my life and have always wondered what I can do besides the hair donuts or clip/pinned on hair braids (of my own or fake hair) - for some reason none of those solutions are appealing to me. Thank you so much for all your great advice! 💕🤗
after COVID, my Thin hair coming out in brush like 5 months worth. Wash daily stopped, 1/week now. Trimmed ends to blunt - helped hide losses, less to catch on in brush and come out. Went back to long bangs. Your Tips helped a lot on the cut, already looks way better. Thanks! Covid hair fall out is a real thing.
you have to make a product look good. no one wants to look at flaws. you have to sell them beauty to trick them into thinking they can achieve it. its like that for everything clothes make up anything where success is portrayed if you buy their product. they are just selling you an idea. if you want to see an old model with fine hair, it has to be the one in your mirror.
I love it how you said that some women can be REALLY hairy, because I am. :) And it's like hairiness is seen as such a no-no on women that even in shaving commercials the women's legs don't have any hair. It feels like, wow, is being hairy so shameful that you can't even show a hairy female leg on tv? I'll show you a hairy leg, people! :D
My hair is sooo thin I really cry every time i look at myself in mirror I tried EVERYTHING to make it thicker so now im here to cut it cuz im so tired of it 😔😔
I washed my hair with egg yolk and water only for a year - it fixed my scalp and i stopped loosing hair. Egg yolk binds to fat and helps to remove it. No shampoo is needed. Later i got lazy and now am using very good shampoo with minimal chemicals. But mostly important - never keep shampoo in my hair for longer than few seconds. Pretty much wash it out immediately as i get it on top of my head- this prevents scalp from drying - i stopped loosing hair. No conditioner needed. You can read about both techniques online. It works. At 37 i have best soft, thin hair ever. Lots of volume and shine. Growing fast too.

@@Lorigirlable I got these on this website: www.charlietemple.com/de-de/brillen-grande-rotondo-domino-royal-signature-collection They look almost the same as hers 😄
One thing that wasn't mentioned is if you have thin and soft hair that is straight but has a bit of a curly tendency, if you cut it shorter and add some layers it can get really curly (especially if you scrunch it!!)
But layers in thin hair is a big no no. Also she probably didn’t say that because she was talking about what to do with the kind of hair you already have in terms of the cut and not really in depth about styling techniques- I bet she has another video on that though!
My hair is like that which is why I love some layering, it gives it a little more volume boosted by the slight curl brought out by airdrying or product.
My whole life I’ve cut my hair short thinking thin hair can’t be long.. Then I grew my hair long.. and I have so much more hair to work with. Brushed out curls look BOMB on thin hair. P.s. if you grow your hair long, do a blunt cut with very VERY fine layers towards the back of your head. No layers in the front (usually the thinnest.)
Any idea how to do it at home or if I want to tell a stylist what do I say. I want long hair but it's thin. Currently my hair are below my shoulder blades. Almost mid back length.
@@brookehawkins5764 tysm. I do trim the ends a bit. I wanted to ask how to do the fine layers to the back of the head like you mentioned..I had a very bad experience with a hair dresser and I haven't gone to any for more than a year now. I want to do this at home.

Omg I'm so happy I found you! 😍😍 Our hair is almost identical in the quality and I've always been super insecure of my hair. Thank you for such a thorough informative video ❤️❤️ Love from Sweden 🇸🇪
What was also a game changer for me: sleeping with a silk cap! Stopped the breakage and it isn´t that dry anymore because over night there is a lot of friction between the hair and pillow.
My situation is that I have some ever so slight thinning from GI problems (diabetes-related) and with my natural light brown hair, you can see my scalp more b/c of the contrast in color from my scalp to my hair. So I find that when it is heavily highlighted blonde, you can't see through to my scalp as much. Also, the hair shaft is thicker from the bleaching process, so that gives me much more height when I style it vs. my natural where I have no lift. And of course I have it cut to a blunt bob, usually around my chin in length but no longer than to my collar bones. Gosh, I hope that made sense. It's a good formula that I always come back to when I stray a bit.
Love this! I’m blonde ( and gray) lol, love these tips! I have VERY straight and fine hair. I wish I could have dark roots, but I think too much gray coming in, but good tips. Very positive!
Your hair may well be wavy instead of straight. 2B waves are less evident as 2A and 2C sometimes. I'm saying that as someone who thought my hair was straight because many wavies aren't taught how to appropriately take care of the curl pattern. For those who are or suspect they're wavy and want some resources, I'd suggest Swavy Wavy Courtney, Gena Marie, Afope Atoyebi, The Clean Curl, Brooke Newmaster, and Manes by Mell.
Very well-explained, I was once in that horrible stage of growing out my hair and my ends were curling upwards and they looked very thin and I also had layers which only made things worse. I go for only blunt cuts now but I was also thinking about forehead bangs and thanks for clarifying that it might not be the best option. Very correct about how it gets oily all the time, my friend has already warned me about it. But I am definitely going for some face-framing bangs as explained at tip #5.
Thank you so much for sharing this... I have baby fine hair and I need all the help I can find...and in these day's I do what I can myself to save 💰 I have also noticed that since I hit the big 5 0, my hair has changed...like it's fine and oily, but the ends can be frizzy, so I'm careful to apply a leave in just on the end's.. Thanks again and keep sharing your video's! Have a wonderful day!
instead of dry shampoo you can fill rice flour, which is very light, in a powder dispenser, and pour on your upper head and then rub it in with your head upside down. It is invisible and makes volume.

You're like.... the Neil DeGrasse Tyson of hairstyling. I'm convinced you're the only one who can help, honestly. Or at least point me in the right direction. I have a round face, straight AF hair like the people who asked you the questions. BUT I am very tall and I have wide shoulders and bobs make my shoulders look wider idk what to do help me please. :( My hair length is about 2inches below the collar bone and all the mass is right in that area and I look like I'm balding even though my hair density is very good.

BLESS YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. wish I knew this when I was in my late teens - i always opted for a blunt fringe and drastic A-line bob and my hair always looked thin, and I already had very little hair already. i've been wearing a pixie for years now because it's my preferred look and maintenance, but i'm trying to grow it out into a bob. blunt bob with no bangs it is :-) thank you again for this well made video with very useful tips!
I have super thin, not too dense, flat hair, small hair area and I feel like there is no hope for me 😭 Only a perm can give me some volume but my hair is so destroyed after... Or when I style them curly but it takes a lot of time. I tried every haircut and my hair just always looks flat and thin, no matter how hard I try to style it for some volume. It's very healthy btw just so thin.
I feel ya there. I’ve been learning to embrace my hair even though it’s not the “ideal” hair type. Who really cares, honestly? Unplugging from image-based social media has really helped my body image and overall satisfaction in my life (I’m 25 btw).
@@Becky0494 hi, I'm 26 but I feel it difficult to just stop to care. Hair is really my biggest issue, I accept the rest of my looks pretty much. Unfortunately people can give you comments like "your hair is weird" or "your hair is so thin" which doesn't help.
Maybe short hair would suit you. Like Alexandra Anele's hair (youtuber). It looks sexy on her and her hair is very thin. Then you wouldn't have to fight it anymore, just cut it regularly and style it everyday. With a short hairstyle you can style it differently everyday and have fun with it. Not every woman have to have long hair, or looks good in it. I know it's hard to let go of long hair (I mean below the shoulders or more) if you've always had it long but if it doesn't look good anymore and ages you then it's time for a change. And if it's not running in your family to have thin hair then maybe you lack of nutrition like protein or iron. So while you eat more healthy (for your body, everybody is different) and cut your hair short, you let it also rest from ponytails, buns and all other stuff that cause brakeage. And maybe in time you get a thicker hair that looks more healthy :)
@@tessltaekook8501 yeah I have a short bob right now but even if I try to style it the hair falls flat after just some minutes and gives an impression as if there was almost no hair at all -.- even my hairdresser can do nothing about, I guess that's how my hair just is. I'm affraid I wouldn't look good in a super short hair, you need to have a great bone structure for that in my opinion. Also I'm a bit muscular so I would be affraid to look too boyish. I do eat healthy it's just in my family genes, extremely delicate slavic hair. Perhaps some day I would give a very short cut a go but I'm not sure.

Do You speak about my hair? 😁 I hate, when the hair dresser puts layers in my hair. They always look much more fine with it. And yes, I try to let them stay wavy, but the second, some times third day, they just look like cotton candy (great term) or are almost straight.
@@lenka156 Do you use any styling products/ techniques? They are the key for fine wavy/curly hair to eliminate frizz and last more days, but a good cut is a must too.
@@KdKoala Yes of course. But my hair is baby fine, so every day is more straight, tangled, frizzy... So I have two possibilities use a brush =straight hair, or not = tangled hair. But they are oily quickly anyway - so I wash them and start over. 😄
@GAgaV8 Definately good tip, I always thought I had 'straight frizzy' hair but after following the curly girl method, I found out it is actually curly :). And I think a blunt cut is still a good idea for that kind of hair. Layered haircuts are very popular among textured hair types, but they tend to look less good on fine or wavy hair (but its all about personal preference)

“Worst case”. Thanks for pointing that out for us fine, thin haired ladies.
Magic Style Haarflecht-Atelier, thanks for explanation! Fine and soft hair that does not hold volume - exactly my problem!
Mine is extremely fine but holds curl well.
Another worse case scenario here. Thin, fine and increasingly falling out. I have no colour in my hair now and I just can't make any decisions. My confidence is at all time low I so I need others to tell me lol
@@michelleb5184 haha same I have thin fine hair 😂
Same here. I have started wearing wigs.
It would be nice to see models who are older and truly have thin/fine hair.
you have to make a product look good. no one wants to look at flaws. you have to sell them beauty to trick them into thinking they can achieve it. its like that for everything clothes make up anything where success is portrayed if you buy their product. they are just selling you an idea. if you want to see an old model with fine hair, it has to be the one in your mirror.
@@GotoMaki4Micah Wow! Deceptive. I would love to see a Woman with the beauty of age with cosmetics, etc... that claim to be for her. Honestly...
@@ginakelly11 the channel hit and flashy is an older very pretty woman who shows us all kinds of tricks and tips with hair and make up.
Thank you! 🙏 So true.
hahaha... lollll same. fkn scare em all of
My hair is sooo thin I really cry every time i look at myself in mirror I tried EVERYTHING to make it thicker so now im here to cut it cuz im so tired of it 😔😔
I’m feeling the exact same way I hate my hair I’ve also been told I have alopecia from a doctor he said you can’t do anything about it 🙄
I washed my hair with egg yolk and water only for a year - it fixed my scalp and i stopped loosing hair.
@@Julia-nk2gj omg THANK U SO MUCHHH!!!!
Get some extensions put in. Works wonders for thin hair.
if u have the money getting professional extensions to make your hair seem thicker is prob the easiest thing to do
My hair and my daughters hair has started to fall out since having Covid! I recently got my hair cut into a short lob and this has made it much thicker looking

@@Lorigirlable I got these on this website: www.charlietemple.com/de-de/brillen-grande-rotondo-domino-royal-signature-collection
They look almost the same as hers 😄
One thing that wasn't mentioned is if you have thin and soft hair that is straight but has a bit of a curly tendency, if you cut it shorter and add some layers it can get really curly (especially if you scrunch it!!)
But layers in thin hair is a big no no. Also she probably didn’t say that because she was talking about what to do with the kind of hair you already have in terms of the cut and not really in depth about styling techniques- I bet she has another video on that though!
Yes i have this but yes layers make thin hair break earlier but with care I dont think its a no go to have layers
Ask for a trim every 3-6 months. Only an inch off. If they don’t respect that I would go somewhere else or learn to do it at home.
@@brookehawkins5764 tysm. I do trim the ends a bit. I wanted to ask how to do the fine layers to the back of the head like you mentioned..I had a very bad experience with a hair dresser and I haven't gone to any for more than a year now. I want to do this at home.
I agree! I don't think short hair looks thicker on everyone, despite how much of a 'rule' it seems to be.
YES ALY THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤❤ My hair is thin af and these tips are lifesavers. Not that I can go to the salon rn, we're in full lockdown here. 😷 I'll save this for next year. Stay safe everyone! 🙏❤🇳🇱

Thank you!
Wow, the quality of the content is amazing! So thorough! Thanks a lot!
I want to say especial thanks for that good English you have. I'm having a really bad time catching up Russian accent (even tho I have one myself) and watching you is just a bliss. Keep up a good work!
Omg I'm so happy I found you! 😍😍 Our hair is almost identical in the quality and I've always been super insecure of my hair. Thank you for such a thorough informative video ❤️❤️
Love from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thank you Aly, the universe put you in front of me, I'm getting my haircut next week, perfect tips and perfect timing. x
What was also a game changer for me: sleeping with a silk cap! Stopped the breakage and it isn´t that dry anymore because over night there is a lot of friction between the hair and pillow.
Or a silk pillow is good for hair and skin
The BEST video about thin hair I've ever seen. Learned a lot. Thank you!
I just realized why my hair is thin but doesn't look like it. I am already doing most of these things, I didn't even know they helped 😅
I have fine hair, and a blunt cut looks really bad. It makes my hair look wider at the bottom compared to the root, making it looks even thinner.
You should try the curly girl method. I was just like you and i realized i actually have wavy hair.
I agree! It def makes it look flatter and also less soft on the face! I’ve tried blunt it just really really doesn’t suit me
Thank you
Very well-explained, I was once in that horrible stage of growing out my hair and my ends were curling upwards and they looked very thin and I also had layers which only made things worse.
Can you do a video on which body/face types would look good with straight brows ?
Great idea ☺!
Using a hairstyle to correct physical features IS the way to go! It can make a huge difference!
My goodness, you are gorgeous. 🔥 And brilliant. You always give the best beauty and fashion advice.
instead of dry shampoo you can fill rice flour, which is very light, in a powder dispenser, and pour on your upper head and then rub it in with your head upside down. It is invisible and makes volume.
Rice flour? invisible? thank you I will try. thank you 🙏 you
@@sherrymdsrn your hair will not shine as usual though, because is still a flour, but you can fix it with some parfume, if you wish

Very helpful! By the way I love those glasses on you!

Thank you !
I feel you
I feel ya there.
I really need to know WHERE u got those glasses!!!!

What about wavy, frizzy (think cotton candy) fine hair? Still blunt cut around bottom?
Definately blunt cut, she says so and it is tried and tested too and proper layers (not too many) to suit for face shape and volumizing do miracles ;)
Very impressive and informative video!! Thank you these are really some deep experience tips.
