I've had a larger ASUS Transformer of the same line years ago, yeah the 2GB models even then would've popped up "Hey close some things to avoid being interrupted/crashes" Using it nowadays will make that message appear more often, 4GB is definitely a necessity to be useable. I still use it from time to time for specific things. I've thought of replacing W8.1 for Linux, but seems like it uses a 64Bit OS with a 32Bit BIOS, somehow, so I just gave up on it.
It's quite easy to get Linux on those 32bit EFI systems. If you want to try it I'd recommend checking "Linux on the HP Stream tablet" on HP community, it's the same process for other non-HP tablets too
@@Pasi123 I've decided to actually give that a shot. The UEFI was unable to recognize either the SD Card or the USB that I tried to boot from. Disabled Secure Boot, and tried the USB on another Laptop and it worked, but not on the tablet. I was using a 32bit version of LMDE just to make sure it will read the USB. Maybe I have to use the Micro USB port with an OTG Adapter?
I was trying to install Linux on the same model and ran into the exact same issue. The answer is MX Linux (KDE Spin - 32bit). It has a 32 bit UEFI BIOS, but is also available as 64bit OS. Runs perfect, even got the touchscreen to work perfectly and calibrated. One thing to lookout for is orientation. It is the wrong way up. Though on KDE it is a one time issue (go to settings -> Display -> Switch to Landscape).
i just got myself a Dell business class tablet. It was well over 1k when it launched in 2017 but i picked it up for about 260€ and it has a i5 7300U aswell as 8GB of RAM and a full sized m.2 NVMe enabled slot for SSDs. It even can take a second SSD inside the unpopulated mPCIe slot where usually the WAN module would sit in another configuration of this model. The wifi module also sits in a mPCIe slot, can be upgraded but isn´t needed though. Supports bluetooth 4.0 and wifi 5ghz, enough for me. The type cover has a white backlight and it features a full size USB 3.0 aswell as two Type C ports with displayport and that´s also used for charging (needs 20V PD though). At last it also includes many handy enterprise features aswell as legacy CSM module for BIOS emulation. So technically, it can run windows Xp even but i already had issues getting drivers to work in windows 7 as the 7th gen Core i no longer supports windows 7. Anyways, i got windows 11, ubuntu and android-x86 up and running on a 512gb SSD. The OS can be selected through the boot menu, which is accessible with F12 or the volume buttons. Best tablet i ever owned.

I have 2 of almost the same model as the video the difference is that its the T100HA instead the T100TA model. My model is originally shipped with the original release of Windows 10 from 2015. Now I have one of them with unsupported Windows 11 and the other with Windows 10. I still use them in 2022 and they are still good!
I've had this model for a whole week back in 2014. It was very nice. But the big Oof-point was the very slow charging process. The included charger was not capable of charging my device while running Windows 8.1. I didn't knew a thing about third party chargers then. But...it was a nice litte computer. And $20 is a nobrainer, for sure. :D
A lot of people only need a computer for one reason: file transfer, dragging them to the desktop, being able to manage documents easily, etc... But the power of their phone is enough for what they need to do. In this case a such tablet is a perfect fit, as long as you install a 64 bits OS on it of course, I don't know why but sometimes people are stupid enough to use half the CPU and get unusable performance + limiting compatibility! When reinstalling Windows be sure to install every driver! Psivewri doesn't seem to be good at finding them
I have many memories of these laptops from elementary school, my 4th grade after school program had a cart full of these before they switched them over to iPads
I had that laptop for a while a few years ago, it was a nice little laptop, I remember when I updated the bios and it unlocked a bunch of new features in Windows 10 also I remember the tablet crashing if you didn't have the right drivers installed in Windows and disconnected the keyboard
I had a very similar netbook from Asus I bought in 2017 (I didn't have much money at the time). It had 4 GB of RAM, but only 32 GB of storage, most of which was taken up by Windows 10. I wound up installing a low spec Linux distro, which ran much better.
I had one of these, a T100TAF (cheaper red version with 1 speaker, z3735f cpu). I loved it, unfortunately broke the screen and replacements weren't great. (had phantom touches etc) You could get a variant with 4gb of ram, and a 500gb spinning hard drive (in a 10in laptop!) which would reside in the keyboard dock. This required a 9v 2a charger to ensure enough power to charge and use the device at the same time... The 30whr battery and low powered CPU made it have a frankly insane battery if required, and being able to run off *any* power bank was a cool bonus. Charge times were slow though, with my model charging thru micro usb 5v2a. I miss mine dearly, i'm leaning toward geting another one cheap but feel like it probably wouldn't get used to it's fullest potential. These early baytrail tablets running windows 8 are what gave the Intel Atom a new lease of life. When these chips were launched they were as powerful as an original iPad Air, for roughly the same power use too.. Impressive stuff!
I think this is my granddads old pc, I can’t believe it ended up in your hands, take care of her. Edit: If this isn’t then I feel stupid for thinking that
Urgh, these bastards were being flogged on school students around 2015. Mine only lasted a few years before the connection between the tablet and keyboard SEVERELY weakened, preventing the keyboard/touchpad from staying connected. And because my screen had also been damaged, also affecting the touchscreen, this basically left me with no input into the device at all. Oh yeah, and the trackpad was coming out way more than my current gaming computer when its battery had swollen up into a mildly spicy pillow. Heck, I could've ripped it out at that point. I finally got it replaced with a Lenovo laptop... that had a garbage battery life for going to school and later began to suffer from frequent BSODs. It was so bad I broke out my super old but super stable (Acer) eMachines eME728 and was using that until I finally got my last school computer (now a uni computer) - an Acer Spin 5... The Acer Spin 5 was LEAGUES better as a touchscreen laptop and you can still get that laptop/tablet hybrid experience by... folding the keyboard behind the screen. Meaning that it's way less likely to die later down the line in the same way my ASUS T100TA did.
I actually had this laptop from 2015 to 2017. It worked pretty well and I liked the portability of it. Seeing this video actually made me buy another one on eBay for $45. However, mine has been updated to Windows 11.

I had a convertible detachable tablet/laptop like this. It ran Windows 10, Acer Switch 10E... It wasn't fast, but had nice battery life & I have some really good memories with it. It was tiny, carry it anywhere. I later installed a Linux distro & it worked really fast.
Convert it into a personal magic mirror for your desk. I did that with an old atom laptop and it's awesome. It's like a google nest hub or a Amazon show I can personalise for myself
Cashys laptops can be a great bargain for projects, I also got a $100 Acer from Gawler CC to use with OBD tools and nothing else. It has Bluetooth and a touchscreen so it works fine on the front seat when finding problems Let me know if you need a hand with the AU Falcon, I’d like to try it on different cars for compatibility testing.
Man, I forgot this tablet existed. I seriously considered buying one back in 2014. I remember them costing $249. It's pretty amazing how cheap you can get one now.
I had a 4gb version of this, used it for school. worked perfect and if it ran out of battery i could recharge it with a powerbank. But i think 2gb was too little, even in 2014...
Interesting video. I bought arguably the cheapest and slowest tablet from the Microsoft store in 2017. The specs are very similar to yours, with a 64 bit Atom processor and a measly 2 GB of ram. I’m thinking of wiping the ghastly and SLOW 32 bit Windows 10 OS with Linux Mint or Manjaro if the memory requirements are satisfied.
I suggest you do a test run on a live boot env first, tried doing that on one of mine Asus tablets, turns out there are no drivers for the touchscreen and the screen rotation is broken.
@@Slay1337pl Mine's a NuVision tablet with a horrible low resolution, cramped touch screen - but as you said, it is always wise to do a live boot anyway to test out the functionality of the OS with drivers. My biggest struggle is to enter the bios of the device to change the boot sequence - so far I've failed.
@@anarhyxd I certainly will. I miss Linux Mint for I had to change to Manjaro Linux on my main desktop because of an AMD graphic card incompatibility with Mint - the GPU drivers for Linux from AMD failed to install. Manjaro isn't as stable as Mint but it is more up to date.
I have owned this hybrid laptop and tablet like this one. It sometimes have some hiccup and lag. But it have extra 500GB HDD built-in the keyboard alongside with 32GB eMMC and 2GB RAM.
Try using a marker to remove the marker from the back. Whatever solvent they use in markers will loosen the old marks and then you can wipe it off with alcohol.
i used one of these for several years in college, aside from being an absolute pain to charge on occasion, it worked very well. eventually replaced it with a surface pro.
If you want you can try drawing over the Sharpie with a dry erase marker, then wipe it off. Seems counter intuitive, but works pretty well in my experience.
I have a similar laptop from Lenovo, called the Lenovo Miix 320. It's a 11 inch hybrid laptop with Intel Atom processor, 4GB of ram, 32GB of eMMC storage and came with windows 10 pre installed. However, windows was too much for that machine so I installed Bliss OS and made it an android tablet. Pair it with a pair of bluetooth earphones and it's an excellent tablet for Netflix in the bed.
I remember wanting to buy one of these in 2015 but in the end opted for the exact opposite, a beefy €1400, heavy lenovo with a 4k display that's still serving me pretty well to this day 7 years later as a secondary machine. No clue why I went from this to that but it was a good purchase for sure lol.
I am always surprised at how you manage to find such cheap deals, even for outdated tech. I had looked for a similar device recently to use as a backup for my daughter to take to night classes and the price ranges were easily 3-4 times more.
@@FlyboyHelosim I keep checking ebay listings and never manage to find deals like those. I wonder if there is some kind of regional filter or something like that. The best deal I could find recently was a 11.6" 8gb ram 128gb ssd Lenovo and that was about US$75 with shipping. I can find chromebooks for around US$30-35 but generally with only 4gb ram and 16gb storage which is quite limiting. I had actually had better luck with tech giveaways from family members, friends or workmates.
Those tablets usually run a 32bit bios for reasons that I don't know If you want a 64os You could try these For Linux operating system usually a workaround is to put the bootia32.efi file in the efi folder When trying to install an operating system like mint or Kali Arch is kinda hard to install on those And after that give Minecraft a try with sodium (better than optifine if you just need performance) You could also play fallout shelter with steam proton
What cash converters did you go to in Adelaide. I know all of them and they are all great except for the one in Glenelg SA. Cash converters for life. I recommend Elizabeth Cash converters and Salisbury cash converters they have great cheap devices.
I had something similar 7 years ago. It was the worst built device I have ever owned. Trackpad popped up multiple times and had to mail it back twice as it began it’s string of problems after a month of use, connector for keyboard became loose after 6 months and almost unusable after a year, USB port failed, and it was slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through molten asphalt
Recently I picked up a Kogan touchscreen laptop from a cashies for just $40. They claimed it has no OS and no M.2 SSD. I found that it did have windows 10 installed onto its 64GB EMMC storage however it was corrupted. I installed a fresh copy of ghost spectre Windows 11 (lightweight windows 11 iso) and now it works great and has 100% battery health so 6-7 hours use can be fairly easily achieved! Sold it on for $100 profit shortly after.
Nice to see being a quad core. Most are only dual core. A shame no demonstration of the speakers, with copyright free music, so we can hear for are selves. The marker pen, commonly referred to as permanent marker, a clue maybe in the name, or am I wrong?
i actually had one of those back in 2013 during my college years, however mine has 4GB of Ram instead of 2GB of Ram. honestly it was a pretty good notebooks alternative, as i used mine with OneNote and a capacitive stylus in classes. i have to say however that one of the biggest drawbacks that this hybrid computer had back then was that even though the Atom Cherry Trail CPU was a 64Bit CPU, Asus cheapened out and used the 32Bit version of Windows 8 on it... that was the biggest drawback of this machine back then and still is to this day since installing a completely different OS on this hybrid laptop is an annoying process unlike any other ordinary laptop - many people have installed cloudready OS and Android X86 on this specific laptop to enhance its software capabilities, some even installed Ubuntu on it. i think in today's world the best OS you can install on one of these machines is probably Cloudready OS with Android app support - that would likely bring the most functionality out of this machine as a tablet while still retaining its usability as a laptop as well. i still have it to this day and it did receive the free windows 10 update a couple of years ago and it still runs pretty well, but i barely touch it anymore since using it nowadays feels more like a chore than actually practical - the 10.1 inch screen isn't really the issue, the issue is the HUGE bezels and the insane weight this tablet has with the keyboard attached... using it as a tablet to watch movies on the go feels like a chore if you don't also use the keyboard as a stand, but then you are carrying a hefty nearly 1kg device with a small 10.1 inch screen just to watch movies on the go when a standard iPad has a 10.2" high resolution display and weighs less than half WITH a magic keyboard... i do like how well it is able to run old games however - Joint Operations Typhoon Rising runs on this computer with breeze...
Used to have one of these with 1gb ram. You're blessed to have 2gb LOL. I'd love to have another one of these with 2gb. 1gb almost makes it useless as a windows user, since it is only able to boot / install windows 8+, so 7 which would run fine on a single gig, couldnt be installed, and anything above 8.1 would make it SUFFER to even boot.
@@leontechtalks yeah, kinda. But, at least when I had mine, it starts would crash by just running ms teams for more than 20 minutes. If that didnt happen, I'd still be using mine for online meetings. Also, mine only had 16gb internal on a damn slow emmc.

Linux Mint runs really well with 2Gbs of RAM with the Cinnamon distro. You should give it a try! :D
Cashies!!! 1 Grit It!!
Sorry wrong channel 😂
nahh mate this the right one
That thing might have SATA connector inside the keyboard for hard drive/ssd
I still has this mini laptop in white colour. Working great, although slow. Battery still good i think I bought this in 2014 or 2015.
Mine got me through college! It blows my mind how well the Intel Atom z3735 runs Doom 3 and Portal 2
If you want you can try drawing over the Sharpie with a dry erase marker, then wipe it off. Seems counter intuitive, but works pretty well in my experience.
Interesting, I'll give those a go 🙂
Thanks for the video. Always appreciated. More please.
This was my main driver for about 6 years! I still have it and it still works, though the storage was hell to work with
I have a similar laptop from Lenovo, called the Lenovo Miix 320. It's a 11 inch hybrid laptop with Intel Atom processor, 4GB of ram, 32GB of eMMC storage and came with windows 10 pre installed. However, windows was too much for that machine so I installed Bliss OS and made it an android tablet. Pair it with a pair of bluetooth earphones and it's an excellent tablet for Netflix in the bed.
psivewri love the vids man keep it upyou always make me wanna come back and watch more
First. LOL. Love your videos man! Keep up the good work. ♥️
DUDE WE NEED MORE VIDEOS!!! =]
Im more impressed on 8.1 that it can still run SUCH low specs , My windows 10 went on 3 bsod's when i tried to open minecraft on 2.8gb ram
Wait I had that laptop which unfortunately broke when i tried to update the drivers
ohhhh I have had this as a kid
sadly, windows 10 destroyed it kinda, it used to run wayyy smoother with windows 8
Holy crap you’re from Adelaide??? That’s where I am baby!
Those tablets usually run a 32bit bios for reasons that I don't know
If you want a 64os
You could try these
For Linux operating system usually a workaround is to put the bootia32.efi file in the efi folder
When trying to install an operating system like mint or Kali
Arch is kinda hard to install on those
And after that give Minecraft a try with sodium (better than optifine if you just need performance)
You could also play fallout shelter with steam proton
it runs a 32bit CPU, not bios.
@@MultiWirth both. Or more specifically a 32 bit UEFI.
@@megamiazga A 32-Bit EFI with a crappy 64-bit cpu.
android x86 would be amazing on this
I always wanted one of these back in the day
Do you and DankPods shop at the same cashies?
How about installing Android x86 on this? That would probably be pretty usable
What cash converters did you go to in Adelaide. I know all of them and they are all great except for the one in Glenelg SA. Cash converters for life. I recommend Elizabeth Cash converters and Salisbury cash converters they have great cheap devices.
I had this exact tablet, and there is a SATA port in the keyboard !
Just letting everyone know that if you open up the detachable keyboard you can add an additional hard drive or SSD. Because mine has that feature.
Asus made the Google Nexus 7 tablet in 2012 and 2013 which came with Android 4.4 and supported through Android 6
"This keyboard is a bit cra...mped"
I'll be honest, I was thinking another work was coming 😅
Psivewri X Dankpods colab would be lit af
Alternate Title: I Bought a $20 Laptop From Cashies, Mate
Recently I picked up a Kogan touchscreen laptop from a cashies for just $40. They claimed it has no OS and no M.2 SSD. I found that it did have windows 10 installed onto its 64GB EMMC storage however it was corrupted. I installed a fresh copy of ghost spectre Windows 11 (lightweight windows 11 iso) and now it works great and has 100% battery health so 6-7 hours use can be fairly easily achieved! Sold it on for $100 profit shortly after.
Wasn't that called the transformer book? Seemed cool as hell when it came out
Nice to see being a quad core. Most are only dual core. A shame no demonstration of the speakers, with copyright free music, so we can hear for are selves. The marker pen, commonly referred to as permanent marker, a clue maybe in the name, or am I wrong?
I had one of these back in high school and I used to play Sonic Generations at 300x200 resolution on the bus 💀
Cash Converters always has good deals
is the claim your pc thing real
I think if it had 4 gigs of ram atleast, it would be worth its value.
happyy new year
i actually had one of those back in 2013 during my college years, however mine has 4GB of Ram instead of 2GB of Ram.
honestly it was a pretty good notebooks alternative, as i used mine with OneNote and a capacitive stylus in classes.
i have to say however that one of the biggest drawbacks that this hybrid computer had back then was that even though the Atom Cherry Trail CPU was a 64Bit CPU, Asus cheapened out and used the 32Bit version of Windows 8 on it... that was the biggest drawback of this machine back then and still is to this day since installing a completely different OS on this hybrid laptop is an annoying process unlike any other ordinary laptop - many people have installed cloudready OS and Android X86 on this specific laptop to enhance its software capabilities, some even installed Ubuntu on it.
i think in today's world the best OS you can install on one of these machines is probably Cloudready OS with Android app support - that would likely bring the most functionality out of this machine as a tablet while still retaining its usability as a laptop as well.
i still have it to this day and it did receive the free windows 10 update a couple of years ago and it still runs pretty well, but i barely touch it anymore since using it nowadays feels more like a chore than actually practical - the 10.1 inch screen isn't really the issue, the issue is the HUGE bezels and the insane weight this tablet has with the keyboard attached...
using it as a tablet to watch movies on the go feels like a chore if you don't also use the keyboard as a stand, but then you are carrying a hefty nearly 1kg device with a small 10.1 inch screen just to watch movies on the go when a standard iPad has a 10.2" high resolution display and weighs less than half WITH a magic keyboard...
i do like how well it is able to run old games however - Joint Operations Typhoon Rising runs on this computer with breeze...
Actually no! Windows 8x seems to run really well with 1GB. I have a HP tablet that's got 8.1 and 1GB of ram. It's great!
@@leontechtalks yeah, kinda. But, at least when I had mine, it starts would crash by just running ms teams for more than 20 minutes. If that didnt happen, I'd still be using mine for online meetings.
Also, mine only had 16gb internal on a damn slow emmc.
Use Linux I guess
I get this laptop form my aunt 4 years ago and switch to MacBook 2022 recently. Thought this laptop x86 windows isn't fit for these days software, but I still very happy to have it's portability and take many astrophotography with it
a great little laptop for everyday normal use!it deserved a good old restoration.keep up the great vids!
;)
I can see this running somewhat OK with Chrome OS Flex, maybe try installing that, it would also be a chance for you to try it out in a video.
Has somebody picked up that golf club set at Cashies yet?
I’ve seen this laptop many of times at cash converters Elizabeth but has sold. There’s also this type of laptop at Salisbury cash converters
