Hi Munish ji, Only issue which I faced in my kushaq 1.0 MT in steep hills is that below 1750 rpm , due to turbo lag we may have to gear down to 1st gear where 1.5 NA engines can pick up in 2nd gear. I drove a Venue T-Gdi with a proper 6-Speed Manual gearbox. The torque output claimed is 172Nm starting at 1750rpm. But actually, in real life conditions, I actually felt that the peak 172Nm torque is commencing after 2500rpm.
That claimed peak torque @1750 probably means peak torque measured at crank, but while driving what we feel is peak torque at wheels so a diff will be there. Same is the case in my polo 1.0

No one is buying natural aspirated engine car on hills to drive above 4k of rpm, Its bcz when your car will be in halt position at steep hill than an NA engine will give much better initial torque than any turbo engine. That's why alto is the king of hills, not considering its safety rating though. Else in normal driving conditions Turbo engine rocks at a cost difference of approximately 1lac😁
I have Taigun MT Topline 1.0 TSI. It cruises great on highway. But compared to NA engines, in hills it certainly feels a lil bit off. In steep slopes it needs to be rev hard as compared to NA engines which are comparatively smoother. Plus I want to know one thing, what is the power of a turbo charged engine without the turbo? I mean in steep hills when its difficult to clock 1800 RPM during the advance of the climb and in tough corners on steep slope. Its there where the NA engine with less power feels smoother than this 1.O TSI turbo charged engine.
you want to take out more torque and power from small 1l engine which is a 3 cylindr unit compared to 1.5 ivtec obv there will be a difference in reliabilty seen old accords , citys on roads 2001 model low end is way better than 1l tsi i appreciate technology but somewhere video is going towards VW 1.5,1.8 ivtec unit by Honda is stress free and just change engine oil , filter and you are good to go.

hello sunderdeep ji & manish ji. regarding power and torque, in layman terms power is how fast you can go, and torque determines how fast you will reach that fast. on more thing about 1.0 tsi engines being spontenous is that they are square in nature , i.e, bore diameter and stroke is of same length, due to turbo charging the air is pushed in the combution chamber hence they dont have to worry about the intial torque, while in case of na engines they need longer stroke to and big crank shaft to do the same thing which makes them heavy, and heaft is enemy of peppy engine, it is the same reason the 1.0 is more enjoyable than that of 1.5 tsi. secondarly what turbo charging is doing is that its chopping of one cyclinder. hence less frictional losses and more mechanical efficency . in layman terms if you need 4 men to do certain task , now same task can be done with 3 mens with better end results. also about the life , since its a direct injection engine , the valve stem lubrication isnt a issue . in na the valve stem looses lubricaton because of direct contact with fuel. .
Excellent analysis 👏. Please continue this please. Indian mindset should change, please encourage quality products like VW, skoda... we already lost ford
Appreciate the efforts towards educating people at large. NA engines have got no edge over turbo engines when it comes to performance . But in the case of hybrids, even hybrids also kind of mimic behaviour of turbo engine to some extent. For ex. Toyota Hyryder gives 141 Nm peak torque from 0-3995 rpm thanks to electric motor and beyond 4k rpm engine gets activated for further power boost. Not much of difference from 1.0 Tsi engine’s peak torque of 178 nm. The trade off here is though better fuel efficiency. So for someone eying fuel efficiency hybrids become clear winner here.
Very useful information to understand the technical aspects of normal engine and turbo engine modification ..learned something new and understand Thanks sir 👍

@@SunderdeepSinghI own kushaq 1.0 MT I feel too much lag in city and slopes please share some tips at what rpm we need to switch gears this will really help many if you make a video of it.
But sir is it not true that whenever the turbo is operational in an engine it takes more amount of fuel than NA engine so as to avoid the engine knock due to high pressure in engine cylinder due to turbo..but engine coupled in turbo is only fuel effecient when there is no demand of turbo during low revvs..
Guys, Just to prove his point right Manish ji forgot to consider the behaviour of 1.0 tsi below 1750 rpm. That engine is dead before that. And from 1000 rpm idle to 1750 rpm is the band where you will be while in stop go traffic and steep hills climb at low speed. That's where it fails and that's why we say no replacement of displacement. And by no means turbo charged small engines are fuel efficient, you can not get the turbo rush without burning additional fuel. Before 1750 rpm torque of 1.0 tsi is 35 nm where as any 1.5 NA would not be having less than 90 nm before 1700 rpm. PS: I hate creta seltos. I drive 1.8 tsi laura and 1.8NA civic. So small capacity turbo charged engines are not good for steep climb at low speed is still true
@@SunderdeepSingh you are lucky, you have torque converter masking the dead zone for you. I am only talking about manual 1.0 tsi. I have test driven it couple of times. I am not saying its a bad engine but its not for someone who needs power initially in rev band
1 small limitation for turbo engine... as per my understanding Below 1750rpm.... turbo engine doesn't maneuver in bumper to bumper traffic. This is where NA engines provides linear acceleration from 0rpm. Correct me if I am wrong. Staying in Delhi NCR- below 1500 rpm... we need some torque output to move ahead without playing with clutch and gears.
@@SunderdeepSingh what about 6 speed manual transmission. AT gives you little push or creep function in any automatic car which helps in b2b traffic.... but manual gears shifting especially in VAG group cars is a headache in traffic due to long clutch travel. Only challenge when i drove 1.0 MT and 1.5 i vtec MT ..... city driveablity is better in NA Due to no turbo lag Engine performance... no issues...
I really feel good on randomly bumping into this video on UA-cam after taking decision to go for 1.0 MT TGDI Hyundai , I can really have more technical aspects and better argument facts than before and people should also understand that their popular desh ki car TATA nexon and Mahindra 3xo also comes with turbocharger 3 cylinder but they get bothered only with Hyundai 1.0 tgdi or VW 1.0 TSI
@@SunderdeepSingh gdi is safe sound and practical they should put that in their cars quickly since they know they can’t perform like Suzuki with their MPI engines
Small size turbo engines saves fuel only when you drive them sedately and are very sensitive to throttle inputs. The idea of small turbo engines saving fuel is a very dicey concept. When the turbo is on boost, there is forced induction of extra air into the engine and in order to maintain the ideal air/fuel ratio, there is extra fuel injected into the engine which does not do well for fuel efficiency figures. So, even at low rpm's on boost turbo engine will consume extra fuel. PS: Feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong.
@@nikhil9555 there are well documented videos on youtube channels like 'Engineering Explained', where they explain why small turbos aren't really that efficient. People who want to know more can check it out.
Yes 100% true but it also depends on tuning and at what rpm turbo kicks in Slavia/virtus turbo kicks in at 2000 rpm At flat surface upto 2000 is working ok optimal fuel consumption But on hills low gears and high rpm will lead to more consumption of fuel Slavia/virtus 14-19 km city mileage With 55-65 km/hr speed 20-25 km on highway with 87-98 km/hr and rpm at around 2000-2100
@@skulchand2177 not true. Even Alto don't give 18-19 in city which you are claiming. The manual gives 11-13max and the AT gives 7-9kmpl in city (actual city conditions) and not cruising around on empty roads after 10pm. Highway efficiency is good but again, it will never achieve 20+ when calculating tank to tank
Now I know why my Kushaq 1.0 seems so silent on 100 - 110. Even my family members, when they don't see the speedometer, say why are you driving so sedately when road is empty 🙂
Xuv300, xuv700 , revotron, boosterjet, all engines are turbo engines. Advancement in turbocharger, variable geometry dual jet technologies need to be considered.
You just said the reverse, torque is abilty to do work, power is how quickly you can do the work. torque can be increased with gears but not power, means if a vehicle can not pull a load in certain gear, u just need to downshift to increase the torque but u will decrease the speed.
"There's no replacement for displacement". This line no longer holds weight in today's time. Technology is replacement for displacement and that's exactly what the modern turbocharged petrol engines are doing.
Surely if you will drive at 85-95 with 1.0 TSI for longer period, Turbo will bring better numbers. In City NA will give 1 or 2 km per litre More average.

As a computer science student, I can say proudly that in terms of knowledge of cars and engines I am ahead of almost 95 percent of Indias population.
I am from mechanical background in navy the way u explain brother excellent I also purchased nexon diesel with 1500 to 2750 270nm I feel the punch in this band and remind u
I recently explored Kashmir in my 1.0tsi rapid with full boot and two passengers on board and believe me it was a true pleasure very smooth incline in 3rd and 2nd gears in bumper to bumper traffic even 1st gear was very smooth on low rpm. It's a true gem❤
Good work Sundardeep ji and munish ji. This conversation should be reached to new young car buyers. Very helpful🙌🏼

Great video..... The point of powerband is very apt. I hope more and more people start giving emphasis on it
One of the best explanations of the engine behaviour. Thanks for posting such a content. Appreciate your true efforts Sunderdeep ji.
Excellent explanation Manishji and Sundarji....very nice. Thanks a lot for explaining with such technicalily.
I drove a Venue T-Gdi with a proper 6-Speed Manual gearbox. The torque output claimed is 172Nm starting at 1750rpm. But actually, in real life conditions, I actually felt that the peak 172Nm torque is commencing after 2500rpm.
That’s quite interesting. In my both T-Roc & Slavia it hits before 2000 very easily.
That claimed peak torque @1750 probably means peak torque measured at crank, but while driving what we feel is peak torque at wheels so a diff will be there. Same is the case in my polo 1.0
@@kalainaveen Yea, I think there should be more dyno Centres in India to know actual figures at respective rpms. It will determine the engine health as well.

No one is buying natural aspirated engine car on hills to drive above 4k of rpm,
Its bcz when your car will be in halt position at steep hill than an NA engine will give much better initial torque than any turbo engine.
That's why alto is the king of hills, not considering its safety rating though.
Else in normal driving conditions Turbo engine rocks at a cost difference of approximately 1lac😁
Turbo not for hills in stop go faced same prblm in leh
I have Taigun MT Topline 1.0 TSI. It cruises great on highway. But compared to NA engines, in hills it certainly feels a lil bit off. In steep slopes it needs to be rev hard as compared to NA engines which are comparatively smoother. Plus I want to know one thing, what is the power of a turbo charged engine without the turbo? I mean in steep hills when its difficult to clock 1800 RPM during the advance of the climb and in tough corners on steep slope. Its there where the NA engine with less power feels smoother than this 1.O TSI turbo charged engine.
By Far ... the best informative video, I more confident with VW turbo now wrt to naturally aspirated.
Aankhen kholdi sir...thank so much
you want to take out more torque and power from small 1l engine which is a 3 cylindr unit compared to 1.5 ivtec obv there will be a difference in reliabilty seen old accords , citys on roads 2001 model low end is way better than 1l tsi i appreciate technology but somewhere video is going towards VW 1.5,1.8 ivtec unit by Honda is stress free and just change engine oil , filter and you are good to go.
Next month me car purchase karne wala tha kisi or brand ki . Is video k bad me VW and sakoda bhi consider karuga 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Please do shed light on 1.0/1.2/1.6MPI engines as well - compared to other non turbo engines
my answer to ur query is that dont believe the power and torque figures of mpi engines given by vw in reality they generate more power and torque than specsheet

hello sunderdeep ji & manish ji. regarding power and torque, in layman terms power is how fast you can go, and torque determines how fast you will reach that fast. on more thing about 1.0 tsi engines being spontenous is that they are square in nature , i.e, bore diameter and stroke is of same length, due to turbo charging the air is pushed in the combution chamber hence they dont have to worry about the intial torque, while in case of na engines they need longer stroke to and big crank shaft to do the same thing which makes them heavy, and heaft is enemy of peppy engine, it is the same reason the 1.0 is more enjoyable than that of 1.5 tsi.
secondarly what turbo charging is doing is that its chopping of one cyclinder. hence less frictional losses and more mechanical efficency . in layman terms if you need 4 men to do certain task , now same task can be done with 3 mens with better end results.
also about the life , since its a direct injection engine , the valve stem lubrication isnt a issue . in na the valve stem looses lubricaton because of direct contact with fuel. .
😍 This is pure knowledge...No trash talk
Manish Sir, explanation about technology is next level and simple. That's why I call him Proffecer Sir.🙏🙏🙏⚘️

Bro, I have 1.0 AT Slavia, please stop lying for heaven’s sake
@@SunderdeepSingh you are lucky, you have torque converter masking the dead zone for you. I am only talking about manual 1.0 tsi. I have test driven it couple of times. I am not saying its a bad engine but its not for someone who needs power initially in rev band
1 small limitation for turbo engine... as per my understanding
Below 1750rpm.... turbo engine doesn't maneuver in bumper to bumper traffic.
This is where NA engines provides linear acceleration from 0rpm.
Correct me if I am wrong.
Staying in Delhi NCR- below 1500 rpm... we need some torque output to move ahead without playing with clutch and gears.
You are wrong because you haven’t experienced it yet, saying this after owning a Slavia 1.0 AT
@@SunderdeepSingh what about 6 speed manual transmission.
AT gives you little push or creep function in any automatic car which helps in b2b traffic.... but manual gears shifting especially in VAG group cars is a headache in traffic due to long clutch travel.
Only challenge when i drove 1.0 MT and 1.5 i vtec MT
..... city driveablity is better in NA
Due to no turbo lag
Engine performance... no issues...
Tata Mahindra needs to improve a lot in this department yet. Tata lately made their GDi engine, the older one was mpi turbo.
PS: Feel free to correct me if I got anything wrong.
why did he ignore yr comment, you are saying correct thing
@@nikhil9555 there are well documented videos on youtube channels like 'Engineering Explained', where they explain why small turbos aren't really that efficient. People who want to know more can check it out.
@@nikhil9555 he ignored my also😂
Yes 100% true but it also depends on tuning and at what rpm turbo kicks in
Slavia/virtus turbo kicks in at 2000 rpm
At flat surface upto 2000 is working ok optimal fuel consumption
But on hills low gears and high rpm will lead to more consumption of fuel
Slavia/virtus 14-19 km city mileage
With 55-65 km/hr speed
20-25 km on highway with 87-98 km/hr and rpm at around 2000-2100
@@skulchand2177 not true. Even Alto don't give 18-19 in city which you are claiming. The manual gives 11-13max and the AT gives 7-9kmpl in city (actual city conditions) and not cruising around on empty roads after 10pm. Highway efficiency is good but again, it will never achieve 20+ when calculating tank to tank
What about carbon deposit problem on inlet valves of a direct injection tsi engine? How to take care of that in the long run?
No video on this, I don't see anyone speaking about it in India
@@latandlon my guess, majority of the people don't know about it!

Could you help telling how much mileage you get in city, heavy traffic and highways?
Xuv300, xuv700 , revotron, boosterjet, all engines are turbo engines.
Advancement in turbocharger, variable geometry dual jet technologies need to be considered.
You just said the reverse, torque is abilty to do work, power is how quickly you can do the work. torque can be increased with gears but not power, means if a vehicle can not pull a load in certain gear, u just need to downshift to increase the torque but u will decrease the speed.
Very deep explanation on turbo engine i like it
Munish ji, I respect your knowledge 🙏🏻
Sunderdip ji, I respect you bringing such a great conversation on your channel. Waiting for the next part 😍😍
"There's no replacement for displacement". This line no longer holds weight in today's time. Technology is replacement for displacement and that's exactly what the modern turbocharged petrol engines are doing.

Add a fuel efficiency graph overlapping the torque curve to have a clear picture. The sharper torque curve rise, the sharper the FE falls.
Surely if you will drive at 85-95 with 1.0 TSI for longer period, Turbo will bring better numbers. In City NA will give 1 or 2 km per litre More average.
