kamat bugle rock, popular jolada rotti meal in south bengaluru, vegetarian, jowar bhakri meal, jolada rotti, yennegai, gurellu, shenga chutney, kempu chutney, kamat yatri niwas group, badanekayi ennegayi, eggplant, jhunka, obbattu, hollige gourmet on the road, bangalore food tour, kripal amanna, food lovers tv, food lovers india, truth in food
What I find most appealing about a good North Karnataka meal is its balanced approach when it comes to nutrition, the meal components, both raw and cooked, dishes that complement and contrast, not just in taste and textures, but also in the warming and cooling impact that they have on the body. A good representation of this culinary ethos is the jowar bhakri meal served at Kamat Bugle Rock in Basavanagudi. Part of the Kamat Yatri Niwas group that first brought North Karnataka cuisine to Bengaluru in a restaurant format, this 17-year-old eatery serves a satisfying jolada rotti oota, albeit with flavours slightly tweaked to better suit the palate of this South Bengaluru suburb. Hope you enjoy this watch. Take care; stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

The red chutney is called 'ranjka' in north karnataka.. Ripe red chillies are crushed and salt and lemon juice is added to it and left for pickling. Before eating a tempering of mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds and hing is added to it liberally..

Kamat Bugle Rock is an underrated restaurant and one which deserves credits for doing things differently. They have just been overwhelmed by the recent flood of eateries coming up. What was impressive about this restaurant(not sure if its the same case even now) was their ambience on the rooftop(which was also one of the first) and live classical music almost everyday in the evening(which again should be one of the only restaurants doing this) and encouraging performers.

Never ever seen Spring Onions on a Banana Leaf in any eatery - Quite innovative and intriguing ! Love the way you Relish your Thuppa laden Holige - That brings a fab expression in you 👍 Wow so North Karnataka meals have Zunkha - Interesting 👍 That’s a delectable spread - mouth watering 😋 ! Is the gurellu chutney similar to gongura chutney in taste profile ?? Agree - Quite a well balanced Thali - Too good - Would definitely like to try this meal at Kamat’s ! That Brinjal gravy vegetable is quite unique anyways thanks for drawing a comparison to Bhaingan Bhartha 😋 That Mirchi Bhajji is certainly pulling me right through the TV 😀😀 Time to take of your hat and we knew that was coming 😅 Thoroughly enjoyed this Vlog 👍👍 You never ever disappoint us at all - Wishing you and Food Lovers TV team a wonderful weekend 👍👍👍🙏🙏

Happy you enjoyed this one too, Rajesh, the gurellu (niger seeds) is quite different in taste and texture from the Andhra gongura (sorrel), although both serve to add some tangy piquancy to the food. The gurellu is fibrous in its texture, the gongura is more 'saag-like'.

The chutneys are easy to make and last long. The peanut chutney is the easiest. You roast peanuts in dry fry pan thoroughly. Then you can put in a food processor with roughly chopped garlic cloves( about 10-12) salt and red chillie powder. Pulse the food processor intermittently and add a teaspoon of peanut oil or a neutral tasting oil. Dont run the processor for long or the peanuts will release their oil. You could also pound it in mortar and pestle which is the traditional method.

She would roast peanuts and sesame separately powder them and add pickle oil and little juice from the mango pickle at home. She the stuffed the wet mix in small aubergines. Then she would put lots of oil in a pan and fry the stuffed aubergines in that oil add the leftover peanut-sesame mix then reduce the heat to minimum. She would put a lid and cook. She would keep removing the lid and turn the aubergines carefully with a spatula. This had to last for 3 days without refrigeration so no water could be added. The aubergines took at least an 45 mins to an hour too cook.

@@FoodLoversTV Indeed it did and am eager to explore this place too in the immediate coming weekend. I have also had the privilige of eating this north Karnataka meal in Hubli. Recently my wife and a her friends had the opportunity of enjoying the north Karnataka meal at a Basaveshwara Khanavali in 8th Cross Malleswaram and she gave it an 8/10 too. I am not sure if it is their own branch but it should be good considering she gave it 8/10. I have never seen or been to this place either. So lots remain to explore.......

The fare at BK is more robust or “Kadak” in its flavours, as opposed to the one I tasted here, which seems to have made allowances for local palates. Enjoy our culinary excursions. Happy eating!

@@FoodLoversTV Thanks Kripal. Will do and wish you the same. Please try and explore some of the house eateries in the bylanes off Avenue road where some of the most tastiest chitrannas etc are served. Some also serve yummy dosas the ones like I have never tasted anywhere before. Durinig the 90s, when I was doing my CA, I also have enjoyed just the prasadam in many of the temples in that area that used to be akin to a meal and yummy too.

I used to have Jowar Roti meal at Kamat near Pai ViceRoy J C Road Hotel (sort near Lalbaug). Not sure if it still exists. Maharashtrians have Jhunka (South and East of Pune) more solid then the Pithale. Of course it is not like a Cake in restaurants. In Konkan where Rice is main food grain Pithale is more liquid.

Kripal, a huge fan and an ardent admirer here, of everything you do on this channel; showcasing the vast and wonderful diversity of food even in just one city of Namma Bengaluru, and a few other places in the country; encouraging and publicizing small, new, daring food entrepreneurs, etc. My compliments. Might I make a most respectful suggestion or two on audio/video aspect of your videos, as a hobbyist A/V engineer and moviemaker? I couldn’t find your private email for you, so here it is:
    1) you wear a high quality, directional clip-on mic, so perhaps you might want to lower the loudness and ‘vocal effort’ of your voice, which would bring it down to a more comfortable range. More so the vocal effort… sorry.
    2) might you also minimize all that fast zoom/pan in/out in the video, which would let a viewer relish (virtually) the wonderful dishes that you show closeup for a bit longer; and admire your utter and delicious expressions of contentment and joy.. keep doing what you do, ad infinitum. Bon Appetit.. Cheers
