      With the K&N filter combined with the prl silicone, did he mean the NEW aftermarket intake (whole new intake, not the OEM) or still the OEM housing of the intake and literally just placed a K&N cold air filter?

    Great work! As an Eventuri owner I'm pleased with the results. If you guys ever get a chance to review the new PRL intake which is supposed to compete with Eventuri, that would be awesome.

    2 things:
    1:with eventuri intake a calibration of hondata flashpro is needed as maf reads differently. Might explain the dips of the dyno. A calibrated dyno run could yield more consistent results.
    2: please test Mishimoto and GruppeM too

      I've got the the Predecessor (FK2R) with the Eventuri & though i did't dyno it, it provided aproximately the 20 HP they promise. With aftermarket-whelss (22mm more offset) the topspeed increased from 267 to 273 km/h GPS. Same Autobahn, nearly same weather circumstandes. The airtemp with Eventuri was 1° hotter.
      & the best is the intake-noise. Sounds like it has open wastegate & nearly like open blow off.
      You pay around 1000 bucks, that's not cheap, but it performs well & gets u a lot of sound!

      With software 417 HP / 511 NM.
      No all out Software, just medium tune with TÜV-homologation.

    How did he wire in the Si side mirror with the camera? I want that done on mine because i had a 17 Si and loved that feature. Any info would be appreciated!

    That spike at 5800 for the Eventuri is suspect. Did you run any additional runs with that intake?

    I'm curious to see what the Mishimoto would do. They make some claims but 3rd party testing would confirm or refute their posted test results.

      @@NvSrAgE679 yeah I wouldn’t really buy anything mishimoto anymore. I’ve seen too many people have issues with their products, especially their radiators. I kept the intake system stock on the R and just did a drop in filter.

    Just got a K&N filter for my type r. Going to hold off on an intake. I think getting flashpro, intercooler, and downpipe first is the way to go.

      Generally you will want to tune for the modifications you have so the flashpro would be updated with each. Let us know how you make out with the stock air box, it will be interesting to see how the stock box compares. IF you're local let's do a run on our dyno for a better comparison!

      They never show IATS or Engine bay temps for these new air intake systems its all about them sounds price and looks instead how it performs and does it Cool off intake charge all the way back to the turbo manifold

    Can the Eventuri secondary intake pipe be the reason for the higher hp? Maybe if competitors developed a non-carbon fiber intake with this secondary intake pipe it could be the ultimate intake.

      Its probably a combination of the second intake pipe and the filter design. So if a company came out with something similar or if eventuri came out with a non carbon one that is more affordable it would likely be a more widely desired option

    I have the K&N filter and I'm planning to buy the PRL hose for some engine bling, on stock tune will it do any difference? Not trying to gain anything really just curious.

      There will always be a difference but it may not be very much due to the lack of being efficient and thus not as much power as expected. We always recommend tuning to get the most out of your parts.

    The days of installing parts and seeing immediate gains ARE LONG GONE!!! The Engine Compute must learn and make the changes necessary to see the full benefit. We learned this when the 8th Gen Civic Si came out. We saw this on the 9th Gen Civic Si. We saw this on the 10th Gen Civic Si. It was realized long ago, over 13years ago in fact. The best way to see the gains, is to add the part to a completely stock car and drive the car for a week to see the change. In fact, it's best to disconnect the battery, to cancel out any learning that the ECU already has in it first. At the end of the video they claim, "Real world results." REALLY!?!?!? In the real world do you drive on a dyno all day long? I don't think so. In the real world you drive the car on the street and you don't change the intake every couple hours.
    The test should have been:
    Return the car to stock form, or find someone that has a stock Civic Type-R
    Drive the car for a week
    Do a dyno run to see what power the car makes
    Reset the battery, install the next part to test
    Drive the car for a week
    Do a dyno run to see what power the car makes
    Repeat, going three steps up and continuing until all parts have been tested
    Real World Test
    The old B-Series had little to no learning, except idle. The original K-Series car, the RSX, had learning during idle, and part throttle. The 8th Gen Civic Si, with nearly the same engine+transmission had learning during idle, part throttle, and full throttle due to the new MAF sensor, electronic throttle control, and CANBUS ECU that was put in place that was not present in the RSX... and many aftermarket parts manufacturers were stumped in their testing till they realized how the new system effected things.... aka, drive it for a week for full learning... could take longer even.
    My conclusion, bogus test. It was all a marketing scam for the top dollar intake, that had a spike of power (bad reading) at 5800rpm.
    What would I get? I don't know yet. I need to see a proper test. But I'm willing to bet a good cold air intake, one that has the air pickup from the bumper area, would make the best power... with smooth flowing pipes and transitions, and 3" diameter pipes no smaller.

      Copper Key Racing - although I agree with a lot that you said, having owned an 8th gen 07 Si that was modded with I/H/E + tune that I raced at the track, The whole learning procedure is mostly for proper throttle response at various RPMs and air wave frequencies that aftermarket intakes generate over the stock airbox, which the ECU is tuned for.
      These types of tests mostly show instant power gains due to one simple factor... less restriction. This is why the simple K&N drop in always makes more power then the OEM filter... it allows more air thru easier because it filters LESS!!!
      I agree that the power spike ruined it for me in regards to the most expensive intake making the most power. BS. The intake is expensive due to all that carbon fiber. You pay a premium to have it looking nice. In reality, it probably makes the same power as stock @ these power levels.
      Now, once more boost is added, the OEM Box will begin to be more of a restriction and this where aftermarket intake will begin to shine, since they restrict LESS and allow in MORE AIR when the engine can actually suck in more air.

      @@I_know_what_im_talking_about Without learning, the best power will be made with whatever intake resembles the stock intake's shape and size best, and reduces flow a little but not drastic. That's why the drop in filter and replacement silicone hose made the best power (ignoring the eventuri due to the power spike). No learning required and not a drastic change in flow. Once learning had taken affect on the other intakes, they would have made more power, a lot more. The test results would have turn over on their head... had there been learning involved.
      This is exactly what happened on the 8th Gen Civic Si... and people laughed then at the guys that didn't know. It's been 13years later now.

      @@copperkeyracing6167 your methodology would only work if the car was used in a dyno cell that controlled for temperature and humidity ect. Conditions could be wildly different from week to week otherwise and would corrupt the results.

      @@KXP70 You're over thinking it. Dyno's have SAE correction factor which would work just fine. The biggest factor isn't climate changes, the biggest factor is the ECU being given the chance to learn. For example, a certain brand header was used on the RSX-S, it gave 14whp after having a cold air intake. The same header was slightly changed to accommodate the 8th gen Civic Si [same engine+transmission, just a different body essentially]. On the 8th gen Si, it lost power [after having a cold air intake]. Then, multiple tests were done on several different headers. The best header only made 6whp. 6WHP! You want to know why it made only 6whp? Because it was a huge bottle neck just like the factory header. That same company, that made good gains on the RSX, went back and tried to figure out how to make power by making drastic changes to the header. What finally worked, is they went back to 2" piping after the try-Ys... like the stock header.... Then, another company realized what was happening, and simply copied the original design of the header that was suppose to make 14whp... and what happened? They sold more headers than anyone else, because it indeed made 14whp after the learning took place. The joke was on those that didn't listen, learn, and/or realize their mistake.
      If you want to know which intake makes power, then go install it on an RSX-S, with a turbo kit, since it's the most similar motor without the learning that has to take place... OR, just give modern cars A CHANCE to learn.
      Correction factors are good to +/- 2whp, while learning can effect +/-8whp (my guess, could be more)... Which do you prefer?
      As for those that think that an intake cannot give 20hp... Intakes don't give hp, in actuality, they free up hp that the factory left on the table and didn't give you. Honda is known to be very conservative at giving you all the power potential that can be had out of their cars. In other words, they leave a lot of bottlenecks in place so that the engine is never near it's limit for 300k miles of reliability, low cost of maintenance, low cost of good emissions, etc. Another Example... an RSX-S came from the factory with 165whp on a dynojet. After all the bolt-ons and tuning, the record on an internally stock block RSX-S is 245whp! That means Honda left 80whp on the table! So, yes, the RSX-S could have been rated 280hp from the factory, had Honda put out the best parts right from the start. It may have costed doubled the price, but it's the potential it had. Remember it's a naturally aspirated Honda (Acura for those that think it matters), and that is 40% gain in power. Does the Type-R have the potential of making 40% gain in power [without changing internals or the turbo]??? Time will tell. It's definitely not a stretch.
      Intake gain example: On the Mazdaspeed3, it gained 20whp with just an intake. Injen claims, on their website, it gained 33whp. I tend to think Injens numbers were inflated due to heatsoak before, and then no heatsoak after. 33hp gain on a 263hp car... that's a bit much. 10% gain is possible, but likely more like 7%

      UHhhh, the car doesn't "learn" a modification except fuel trims... Which some cars do. If it's a bigger diameter tube, the MAF scaling tables have to be adjusted to compensate for the new air..
      On it's own, adding mods is going to gain power, but depending on what it is, might run lean.

    Thanks for the effort but like any knowledgable tuner will say, this is useless unless you did a retune atleast on the MAF calibration or wait for the ecu to relearn fuel trim for the particular intake which takes time. This is the very reason why Ktuner/Hondata throws different tune for different intakes. Also, why a custom tune tops them all. That's the real apples to apples comparo since you're extracting every single bit of HP from your purchased intake

    Do you have these dyno printouts anywhere that we can actually see them? That fuzzy screenshot with 8 curves over the top of each other is basically useless to see anything of value. It looks like to me the Eventuri has a single spike that pushed it above everything else, but is actually no better than anything else anywhere else. But then again, I can't really see any true detail the way you presented it.
    And why not include average values over a span of engine speeds? That is far more useful information than reporting the maximum spikes on an inherently noisy measuring system such as a wheel dyno.

    Please keep in mind that although the Eventuri has the most horsepower at that bump/spike at 5800rpm, it has the lowest horsepower at the dip at 6100rpm. There is something weird how the horsepower is in big waves, with peaks and dips, versus the other intakes which are a bit smoother.

    The graph shows 1 tiny 200 rpm bump in HP. No way will you ever feel this little bump or be able to use it.
    Unless it's doing a max speed run where the rpm and top gear just so happen to match up.
    It's an anomaly which should have been retested.

      It's a fully custom built turbo back exhaust including, Downpipe, and Catback exhaust with valve control. It also features a custom fabricated Intercooler. The Wheels are from Niche Wheels. And the in the end, @geos_typer went with the AFE intake.

      No we kept the same tune through out (including baseline) to get a true apples-to-apples comparison.

      This sounds odd, hondata purposely provides a different calibration for the eventuri due to what I believe is a difference in MAF location. Did the car throw any check engine lights since you kept the same calibration as the other intakes?

    Hondata pretty much did the same thing and said...what you bought is for sound and cosmetics, but there is no true gains and stock is better for the hp.

      No Hondata did not do the same test, their car was stock, this vehicle was tuned. Big difference... What Hondata actually said was intakes were cosmetic and for sound IF YOUR CAR IS STOCK. You "Stock Is Better" guys are beyond misinformed.

    Eventuri is baller but PRL gets the job done for alot less money. Show car = eventuri intake tho
    My PRL HVI + Inlet + 3.5" Rampage MAF was enough to support 533whp/431 wtq

    Dynos sit in static air conditions, so how can a dyno measure any real world performance that is trying to measure air flow for cooling or combustion?! It's like trying to measure the colors of a rainbow using a black and white camera...

      You are very right. Although some air can be provided via a large fan, these generally do not replicate higher speed conditions. It would make sense that any type of airbox or intake solution that has a ram air or scoop system would potentially provide more power the faster the car is travelling. Certain basic principals such a a short intake providing more power near the top versus a longer intake providing more torque down low would also see benefits in pitfalls in a non-static scenario. There are a lot of factors but the dyno provides a good idea of static efficiency.

    Until I see a test with the tune being optimised for each intake, I'm inclined to say just stick with OEM.
    Other than the upgrades appearing to bring boost threshold down a few hundred rpm, there appeared to be virtually no difference across the graph, while the OEM actually looked to be the smoothest.
    These intakes may not make enough of a difference until messing with higher boost on bigger turbos. Until that point I'd say keep the best possible filtration for the engine with the OEM set up. Besides this test should have included a BRAND NEW paper filter for the baseline, not a dirty old one of which we don't know how many miles it was in use for.

    No chance a induction kit would add 18 whp. That's over 20bhp at the crank. Impossible without mapping to suit

      It's clearly not impossible. But notice on the graph it's only at a very small peak in the upper rev range before it dips. It wasn't a sustained gain across the rev range. None of the options looked as smooth as the OEM either.

    I don't think this is a real comparison. You need to measure acceleration in real conditions (more air flow). These are intakes of the air. If that air is not like on the street, then its not real comparison. Also, these peak numbers are ridiculous, who will feel even 10hp difference? On these graphs over each other, we can't see much because there are many of them. But for some of them I saw some important drops in power in lower rpms. This street will show. I tested my car on the same road, the same day. Stock car, with ktuner stage 1 tune. 100-200kmh acceleration, stock car, 12.7s. Installed wagner IC and mishimoto intake, acceleration was 11.7s. This is real gain. It can be tested from 3rd gear or from 4th gear (to get bigger rev range), but difference is measured in real world.
    Somebody said, and I agree, ECU need time to adopt to new intake.
    I like your effort, at the end of the day, Eventuri will show the best results on the road too. I know that because I was talking with tuners who tested it on the road, not just dyno. But, dyno is not real world case :) Example: GolfR DSG, 400bhp. My FK8, 414bhp on the same dyno. But gold is more then a second quicker then me from 100 to 200kmh. Yes, there is transmission difference, but also, Golf is 100kg heavier.

      You won't adjust a tune for a simple intake system. The ECU will adapt to the varying cfm levels by itself.

      @@jonathananderson891 those would be base maps. Every car is going to be different. Canned tuned are a good starting point but every engine is going to have different needs. A degree of timing more here, this engine likes another 4° of cam angle, this one needs the mag table pulled down 3% at this load value. Believing that boxed tunes are perfect is neive at best.

      Most aftermarket shit has a little sticker that says “racing use ONLY” for this exact reason. Idiot owners can’t be trusted to have common sense and avoid puddles on the side where your freakin intake sits.
      Your stupid CAI did not come with a written guarantee that said it’s 100% safe in all weather and then lo and behold, it sucks up water and kills your engine (the product failed to do as advertised) did it? I don’t think so.
      There’s a reason why some intakes have a bypass valve installed or you have the option to put on a water resistant condom on the filter to help fight water ingestion. Shits common sense, had you do ANY homework AT ALL prior to buying that POS.
      I don’t mean to be a hardass, just pointing out the facts.
      Like I said, I’ve had several cars with CAIs for 250,000 miles combined, if not more in Florida’s hurricane zone and never had any problems.
