Hehehe what a joyful comment.
Did they? You know that do you?
John Cale singing Femme Fatale 🥲❤
One of the very rare times when a groundbreaking group had a reunion that wasn't embarrassing....and they didn't wear out their welcome. Hypnotic...magical...legendary.
Loving Lou. ua-cam.com/video/4sksofj9r7I/v-deo.html
God, you're right
Here we go again thank you Lou and friends God bless
Exactly! It was a Triumph!
Their short Tour of Europe was a big success! They were received like conquering heroes over there.
Which makes me think they were better off moving to Europe and would have had a longer and successful career if they had moved to London or Paris. Maybe even Frankfurt.
The European audiences were incredibly devoted and appreciated them better that in the US. Here they couldn’t get arrested. There they were playing sold out shows and encores. A big difference!
Well, at least they finally got a taste of what popular success would be like. Here I never heard any VU song on the radio except Sweet Jane solo Lou Reed.
In Europe, they probably would have gotten some airplay even. This recording is great and now it’s rock history!
You’re right and probably because they didn’t try to sound like the records. The songs sounded familiar and fresh.
But I’m not sure the total rephrasing of Lou’s singing of Venus in Furs. Loved every note of the band’s playing but Lou did too much speech-singing on Venus for my tastes.
Oh, Television did some solid reunion gigs-- as did Rocket from the Tombs. Check out Rocket Redux if you cotton to David Thomas, Cheetah etc.
John Cale, a true artist. Any instrument, plays what's right for the song. And not conventional
The main architect of their then groundbreaking sound on TVU&N and WL/WH.
Yes indeed. Pound for pound, Cale’s solo albums blow Reed’s out of the water.
Reed is the real soul of this band ( he wrote almost all of the songs ) . Cale is a sort of painter on Reed s songs , and that s very important too . His album Paris 1919 is great !!
And nobody says "thank you" better.

No coyote?
Wish I could see ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES...
John Cale is mesmerising on Pale Blue Eyes. What a band, so far ahead of their time.
This bands all about their drummer. She's great here.
Mo Tucker would tell you herself, it's her AND Sterling Morrison on rhythm guitar that keep it all together!
That left hand...
they all look great as if they are youger...
Years ago there was no internet, no youtube, and I never thought I would be able to see a concert like this. Thank you so much for posting this magical video and making my day.🌷🌼🌷🌸🌹
Yes I'm agree with you . technology is good .like matrix depends what you want to choose
Uncle Lou .... The original punker !!!!!
This was released on CD & Video Tape back in 1993 then on DVD in 2006. You could've bought it back then like the rest of us instead of waiting for the internet to be invented.
@@SaintMartins i did.... on DvD
yeah, there was internet in 93 but i saw it on a VHS tape back then.
That performance of "Waiting for the Man" & "Heroin" is like a religious experience!! So great!!
RIP Lou Reed & Sterling Morrison u guys were fantastic!!
My life was complete once I got to see Mo Tucker drumming live!
Vrdd
What a treat watching Mo
Amen!
Most unusual drummer of all time, but absolutely perfect for VU. Don't forget her vocals on After Hours!!✌
Personnel
The Velvet Underground
John Cale - bass guitar, keyboards, viola, backing vocals, lead vocal on "All Tomorrow's Parties", "The Gift", "Femme Fatale" and "I'm Waiting for the Man"
Sterling Morrison - rhythm and lead guitar, bass guitar, backing vocals
Lou Reed - lead and rhythm guitar, lead vocals
Maureen Tucker - percussion, keyboards on "Black Angel's Death Song", lead vocal on "After Hours" and "I'm Sticking with You"
Mo is like a human drum machine. Press start and off she goes in perfect time and never gets tired.
Such a haphazard reunion and they absolutely nail it. The music is at it's core just so good. Long live the Underground
Loving Lou. ua-cam.com/video/4sksofj9r7I/v-deo.html
Really? Lous vocals are a mess and he seems like (and later confirmed) that he doesn’t want to be there at all
@@georgestetson5572 bs
@@georgestetson5572 not true that he didnt' want to be there. And not true his vocals are a mess. He sounds like Lou Reed Live.
@nameless Lou actually is having a good time as any real musician could tell you
This concert was very magical,
full of good guitar riffs and good
rhythm. Unforgettable, amazing
rock group was The Velvet Underground! I like very much the
"connection" between the Lou' s
guitar and the Cale' s electric viola,
a genius! You will be forever in our hearts, we will never forget you!
Alex from Italy.
Maureen on percussion is so key to their unique sound.
I liken her to a band like ZZ top: is Frank Beard a flashy drummer? Nahhh!!! But, their music doesn't usually call for that, whatsoever. But, he's rock solid at all times.
Gotta love Maureen Tucker's rig ...with an upright Kick and spot-on timekeeping; despite Lou's tempo a-changin' ways. . . .It's all good.
Do you mean that his songs have weird uncalculable time changes or that he has bad rhythm? Cuz I've never really thought about that
@@blistabliss Lou Reed's timing is often not on point at all. he's dragging and rushing at the same time. any musician can tell you that. but who cares? no one can play like him and I think he's a fantastic rhythm guitar player.
@@madvincent9647 how can a person who’s constantly both dragging and rushing be a great rhythm player
@@mrbenoit5018 It's quantum shit. Don't worry about it.
Moe Tucker needs more cowbell.
I like the urgency in the John Cale's voice. The version of Waiting for the man is awesome.
Sterling Morrison is underrated
This was their triumphant European tour that was sold out everywhere they played and VUs last Hurrah! And it was great to finally see Moe Tucker drumming live. I have always liked and admired her style. I didn’t know she drummed standing up! Cool!
Looking back in hindsight, the Velvets would’ve been better off staying in Europe and touring there for most of their career. They were practically ignored in the US. No Radio AirPlay and only the critics cared about them but in Europe they had an audience and following that cared! Just listen to the crowds reactions after each song!
I’m just glad this was captured for posterity because there is so little footage of the live VU.
RIP Lou Reed And Sterling Morrison
and sterling morrison
They were way outside the mainstream in the US, which is why they were ignored. That, and the glorification of heroin.
And as if Andy Warhol were more than an object of worship for a very small coterie of freaks who made a consciously fake "thing" of being "different" as if that made one 'hip".
seen them in Bologna and it was not sold out at all
love what they do to clock time, hey, we are not machines, we stops & we starts & we pause... the dance between striking a chord...& letting it fade to silence...making it up as they go along
love what they do to clock time, hey, we are not machines, we stops & we starts & we pause... the dance between striking a chord...& letting it fade to silence...making it up as they go along
I saw them in 1993 in Naples. Unfortunately, shamefully and outrageously, they were opening a U2 concert.
After seeing them I went out before the start of the (supposed) "main" event.
I feel very lucky to have had the chance to hear the pillars of rock.
Mate.....how good is that!!!
I saw Lou perform solo in 95.....I had no idea who he was....I was 15.
He was performing at the Alternative Nation Festival in Melbourne, Australia.
I was there to see Primus, NIN, and Bodycount 🤣
While wandering around I came across this dude with an electric guitar and his incredible songs - I was captivated and had no idea why, but it resonated and I've been listening to him and the band ever since.
I got to see an absolutely uncompromising beautiful and legendary performer without even realising!
I understand where you are coming from but in 1993 U2 were one of the biggest bands on the planet and they had a helluva lot of respect for Lou and the VU. If you watched U2's Live Aid set in '85 they featured Walk on the Wild Side & Satelite of Love - in truth, U2 were in awe of the VU's. Not sure there was any shame there - total admiration would be kinder.
it seems, you were close: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_MCMXCIII
I LOVE JOHN CALE ,HIS WORKS ARE OUT STANDING , ONE OF THE BEST MUSOS OF OUR TIME
Me, too! Never heard him til yesterday, and now, well, he's all I listen to
So much maturity in their sound, and that could already be felt starting their first demos in 65-66. Sterling’s playing can never be put on the side, especially in their studio stuff. The synergy between the players is also a very good one, you can feel how they complete each other and keep the fire on all throughout their concert. Something I’ve only felt that intense with The Doors only
I love that Cale is there because the band just wasn't the same when he left.
I love the super-tight lean sound of this, which still allows for their wilder impulses. (And so many minimal drummers owe their careers to Moe Tucker. I love watching her play!)
Me too. A true great
Lou smiles during the duet of Mr. Rain. You know he's in musical heaven. John is driving him on, too. Its a delight to watch.
These guys have class. One of the greatest and most important band of all time and so humble and down to earth. Rip Sterling and Lou.
I'm so glad that this version of Heroin is forever captured on film
Pale Blue Eyes with viola. Jeepers. And Heroin ... man ... that magnificent song remains, sadly, very timely. The whole damn show is damn good. Our cups runneth over. A fitting document.
Mo Tucker is insane! One of the best drummers I've ever seen, a true artist.
I have seen Moe three Times in small concerts in the 80 s
Once i was speaking with her for some minutes ,
She was very friendly !
She needs to write a book of her experiences.
Steve Morris from Joy Division says the same...
Damn lou rips it on the guitar for heard her call my name. Always loved his guitar tone during this era
That version of Heroin is breathtaking. I am amazed at how relentlessly and furiously Mo pounds those drums.
Mo and Sterling's rhythm section so tight always provided the perfect platform for Lou and John to lift off from and make a safe re entry !
Mo really lays down a beat doesn't she?
Sterling can also rip it on lead guitar... White Light/White Heat
Heroin , a haunting beautiful song . RIP
What an incredible reunion. I spent some time here imagining how magical it must have been to see John Cale and Lou Reed on the same stage. I love Velvet!
I love how the songs sound different than on the album. That takes a lot of courage and it shows how creative they were
Best fucking Rock and Roll band ever created, no one els sounds like this and i have listend too them ALL. My soul is complete
If you have not heard it then listen to the album which is available on all the streaming services and has twice as many songs
@@user-xu4ow3bu6f which one
The version of "Hey mr Rain" is just amazing.
Definitely one of the highlights of this show, without a doubt.
I saw them play Glastonbury festival on this tour. People kept moaning about how the songs didn't sound like the records. Every Velvets fan should know their golden rule, It's 'Never play the song the same twice'. Years later I got to work on Lou's 'Berlin' tour and as much as I have always loved his music I found him an extremely awkward person to work for. It's so sad that he and David are no longer with us. Listening to 'Transformer' where you can hear them both so clearly is very emotional. They are all missed.
Awkward in what way?
Ever meet someone who would never have been described as Mr. Warmth to start with add an artistic aesthetic that hates everything anyone did but themselves and maybe two mentors/influences(D. Schwartz and A. Warhol), now let them do a 96 hour run on meth till they had to slow down with some smack but they did so much smack they had to do more meth to be able to function, now imagine having to be around that person after they'd been living that sort of lifestyle for months on end, awkward in that way. At least that's what he was like when I knew him and that was only because I was friends with another early member of the band.
Actually they did, they performed at the RnR Hall, a new song of all things!, but Sterling died, and since it was Lou and Sterling who started the band, Im hardly surprised that nothing much happened afterwards.
If you want to hear the songs as they were recorded, put on the record. These people have grown older, married, had children and friends and families have died. These songs should not sound the same as they did nearly 40 years earlier.
michael thompson That's exactly how it should be. They aren't like The Rolling Stones who have constantly been together for half a decade. The Stones have almost become like a karaoke band. I love them but everyone knows every song. I personally think the point of live music is to NOT hear a recreation of the record but to hear the band as they are. Which can change on any given day.
Damn, Cale's Femme Fatale is DAMN good!

Reed and Cale on "Hey Mr. Rain"!! Amazing!!
That song is by far the best in this concert.
My deepest gratitude for posting this. I didn't get to see them in the early days, so I'm grateful for this incredible reunion. This performance is so fresh and vital.
What a beautiful show. Everyone at their best. Thanks for posting!
I’ve always enjoyed this reunion performance so much, some more than the original versions. Especially “Waiting for the Man” & “Heroin”. Thank you for posting!
I got this cd when it came out in '93. I sold it for dope in '94. I bought it again in '10. Still love it.
I have the Paris 93 gig on a double CD
Old Lou would have approved
No decent dope anymore in all of NYC
Basic rock line-ip, drums, bass and 2 guitars, creating an outstading sound carpet, a large variety of rythms and unique atmospheres. Very few groups in rock history could even try to reach such peacks. John Cale simply maestro!
Well, I wouldn't call Cale's viola basic lineup, but calling him maestro you're spot on. He's been my absolute maestro since fourty years, and he is still going strong in his high ages. One of a kind!
Venía a ver cómo tocan Venus in firus, estoy tan descepcionado, pero bueno... Debbie Harry tiene una versión doblemente mejore.
What a FANTASTIC Spectacle.. A WONDERFUL concert. for centurys ¡¡
Thanks for uploaded Ci 1025
Great video. The tension and excitement would exhaust me if I was in attendance. Thank you for a great post.
Wow! I read an essay by Paul Williams about this live concert. It is everything he said it was .The band is at the top of their game. So glad this moment was recorded cause now you can see what a great band the Velvet Underground was. Fantastic!
Great and incredible concert of Velvet underground. Epic Mr. Rain version , and Some Kinda love. Without them ROCK music wouldn´t be the same. Perfect counterpoint to Doors in NYC. John Cale is a magician and Lou is a weird Rock poet , as Dylan or Morrison. . Beautiful songs. I would have liked to heard the endless bo diddley rhythm RUN RUN RUN song , too.
Thank you for this wonderful and ad-free video!
Fantastic show. Thanks so much.
ETERNOS!!! E sempre actuais. Velvet Underground forever!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diablos es brutal!! ¡SIMPLEMENTE !!
so great !! Thank you for posting !
Thank you so much for this great concert! Lou, always equal to him !!!! Awesome !!!!!!!!!!
So great they got back together for this..A great moment in history 👏
I must honestly say i always "hesitated" to like them. Don´t know why. These doubts are gone completely after watching this gig. Thank you so much for uploading. I had and i´m still havin numerous goosebumps. Every human being getting not emotional while listening to "Pale Bule Eyes" is already dead inside.
I was lucky enough to see this amazing band at Glastonbury'93. This gig brings back great memories! Thanks for posting.
Wowsers and double wowsers!! Thank you for this.... it just appeared in my playlist... thought it was the Cramps at first as was listening without the pics
This is brilliant. Definitely not the usual cynical cash grab reunion. Time in between had confirmed that VU was truly visionary. Appearing back in the mid-nineties post grunge was very timely, and relevant
Brilliant and beyond to the

I thank you for posting velvet underground stuff..they are KOOL to the NTH degree and are way too underated.
BIG THANK YOU!!
Wish they were still all alive and with us together on this planet -best rock band ever
Wow. Cale's piano solo is something only a maestro could pull off, super-fine line between pushing the envelope and plain wrong.
On some kind of love? I thoughts that was really interesting how well he was able to pull off the playing the really abstract chords you can play to a blues
We get it: those who idolize pop stars do so because they haven't lives of their own.

Stones or Beatles ? No , Definitively Velvet Underground ... always modern music to the next century ...When musician from different cultures decide to create together ...John Cale and Lou Reed if only you were still united ...
Strongly disagree !
I love The Beatles, The Rolling Stones AND Velvet Underground. Different music; I'm eclectic. Maybe you like Oasis... (Sorry I don't like them).
I'd say they are second only to The Beatles (and maybe Bowie)
I'd say who gives a fuck either way.
Personally I think they're way better than The Stones and The Beatles combined.

The battle between Reed and Cale on ‘Hey M Rain is impressive and beyond music. It probably sum up their tumultuous relationship in the band and life , but so creative !
I like to think that they translate all the problems, the hatred, the envy of Lou and all the shit they had into this masterpiece. MAGISTRAL!!!
The most influential band ever. They changed the game. Very grateful we must be
Their songs also skipped 70s style rock and roll. Way ahead of its time.
