Sie sind eine der einflussreichsten Indie-Bands der Welt: Die 1986 in Boston gegründeten Pixies um Mastermind Black Francis haben mit Songs wie "Where Is My Mind?" eine ganze Generation geprägt. Nach langer Corona-Pause sind die Pixies nun wieder auf Tour und haben am 30. Juli 2022 im Rahmen von "Weltstars auf dem Roncalliplatz" einen Stop in Köln eingelegt.
Die erste Phase der Pixies dauerte nur von 1986 bis 1993. Doch in diesen sieben Jahren erschienen vier Alben, die - jedes für sich - revolutionär waren und mit denen Black Francis, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago und David Lovering damals sowohl junge Künstlerinnen und Künstler wie Kurt Cobain, Thom Yorke (Radiohead) und PJ Harvey als auch gestandene Musiker wie David Bowie oder U2 begeisterten und beeinflussten: "Surfer Rosa", "Doolitle", "Bossanova" und "Trompe le Monde". Das Markenzeichen der Pixies: ungestümer Rock, sägende Gitarrenriffs und gleichzeitig melancholischer, oft sogar zarter Gesang.
Nach immer größeren Streitigkeiten löste Black Francis die Band 1993 überraschend auf. Von der Alternative Rock- und Grunge-Ära, für die Pixies mit verantwortlich waren, konnte die Band also nicht profitieren. Black Francis verfolgte unter dem Namen Frank Black - ähnlich wie Bassistin Kim Deal - nach den Pixies allerdings eine recht erfolgreiche Solokarriere.
Nachdem Regisseur David Fincher den Pixies-Klassiker "Where Is My Mind?" in seinem Film "Fight Club" verwendet hatte, avancierten die Pixies auch im Mainstream zur Kultband. 2003 schloss sich die Band wieder zusammen und tourte um die Welt. Seitdem sind auch neue Alben entstanden - seit 2014 mit Paz Lenchantin am Bass. Die aktuelle Platte "Beneath the Eyrie" (2019) ist das mittlerweile dritte Studioalbum der Pixies seit ihrer Wiedervereinigung. Die Entstehung des Albums wurde in einem Podcast festgehalten, der Einblicke in den Schaffensprozess der Band gibt.

The older I get, the more appreciation I have for Joey Santiago. He is so subtle yet so damn powerful!
It is impressive just how great The Pixies still sound.
Most musicians get more refined as they get older. The median age of my dad's band is 70 years old, and they sound as good or better than most famous "world-class" jazz ensembles.

Well their set list 8s almost full of their old songs, the good Kim Deal era songs, couse they are their best songs and they know it even if they have 4 Lps and an Ep with Kim and 4 without her , a concert with just their after Kims departure songs would suck , i mean they have some good songs there but not really great ones.
Seeing Paz sing Gigantic with a big smile on her face makes me happy!

That's Joey SANTIAGO....He his known across GUITAR PLANET all over the universe and NOBODY has his touch on a 15k$ GRETCH Guitar with Massive TUBE amps behind him there's a wall of ANALOG TUBE LAMPS AMPLIFIERS..... Also they played unreleased B-SIDES that are From BOSSANOVA. released in 1990...and even older singles in this playlist..
Also most of this playlist is 30 - 35 ish years old and Black Francis is playing the exact same Fender Telecaster from the 1991 in Bristol Show!

The brutally honest expression of complete happiness of Paz living in the ecstasy of living her greatest dream of playing with her idols, I do not know why but it makes me cry, I think we owe her the resurrection and peace that the pixies transmit now. incredibly beautiful. I love her..

The greatest band ever, for me. I saw them in Vancouver, their last concert before they disbanded in 1993. This concert made me very emotional and brought back so many memories of so much time gone by. One day your 28, the next your 60. But we will always have the Music. The best music!

You have no idea ...I saw her (for the 1st time ) sometime in the early/mid 00s playing bass/violin for Jarboe´s (Swans ) solo project.
Both her and Jarboe looked like they were in on some competition/contest to see who looked hotter (sorry , had to mention this since apart from the incredible music this was incredible apparent to everyone in that venue ) ... and yes, almost 20 years later and she still looks pretty alright to me .

In May I finally saw this band that changed my life over 25 years ago. Could barely afford to go. Best decision in years. Listen to Pixies.

40 years running and still sick. The Pixies were always ahead of their time and served as the catalyst for countless indie and alternative artists going all the way back to the 90s and into the present. The way they can go from mellow to hard is unparalleled. Keep putting out outstanding music. Who needs the radio when you have the internet?
Since i discovered them back in 89 ( + 3 phenomenal gigs in Belgium ) , i have been transcended by the Genius of Frank & his band mates . Can't wait to see them in Holland in march 2023 , even though the 3 dates are already sold out

One of my top three concerts I have ever attended! Of course the pixies were awesome, but also the crowd! All age classes, I was dancing with a kid and on the other side of me there was an older woman at some point and we were enjoying the music together! It was the best day of summer!

Ich habe das Konzert auf UA-cam gesehen. Ich habe geweint vor Glücksgefühlen. So eine starke Band. Die Songs "Hammer" Abwechselnd, Hart, Gefühlvoll, Laut, Leise und dann Grandios präsentiert vier hervorragende Musiker.

Very much so. The level of emotions going through her at that moment was sky high on the verge of an overdose. I felt it so strong that I cried. Had to go back a few times to rewatch that. This band is so so much musically powerful, unbelievable that after so many years they're still putting out this sort of energy. Respect for a thousand times to The Pixies

So good to see so many young people in the audience enjoying the Pixies… I myself only heard of them thanks to being a massive David Bowie fan (as you all may know he loved their music and thankfully didn’t stop talking about them) and I instantly became a fan of them as well. What a great band!

I've seen the Pixies live three times and they were awesome every time, but that gig is a new level of awesome. Outstanding and Kudos to Paz, she looks like she's been playing with them since day one. Also, Charles looks so much happier these days and sings and plays the songs properly instead of looking so bored. Magnificent concert and set list.

I just saw Pixies last week at Wellington's Opera House in New Zealand....This video has 38 whopping songs set list. Wow!!!!!....The set list is fantastic.
this set lists beats any other they played this year . Simply Majestic . Happy u could enjoy them back down south . We are now waiting them in Holland & Belgium in march 2023

Oh my lord! What an amazing performance! I haven't seen them since Kim left the band. It's been awhile. Paz is amazing, and I'm so happy for her, playing with her heroes. Seriously, I saw a NOS Alive 23, and bands really bring their A game when they tour Europe.
The crowd. Just look at them. We all started listening to the Pixies in the 80's when we were in our teens & 20's with heads of hair & no wrinkles. We may now have bare heads & wrinkly skin, but screw it We can still get out of the house & rock to The Pixies! Long live Frank, Joe, Dave, Kim, & Paz.

It’s impossible to replace the truly singular Kim. This only makes it more amazing that Paz is so incredible in the band. You have to be a special and extremely cool person to pull that off.

They are really something. Almost every song sounds like a smash hit. Plus so great they found Paz. I really thought Kim Deal was indispensable, but they actually found someone with an equally strong character, who can fill Kims shoes without being a carbon copy, bringing her own thing to the group. Fantastic!

I really like Paz, and don’t think there’d be a better match to replace Kim. However, the creative force of Pixies left with Kim. When you hear The Breeders and compare them to the Pixies’ post-Kim albums, it is clear she was the core of their characteristic style of grunge.

@@somethingyettocome “writing” a song in pop music genres does not mean that you write every instruments part, or even the entirety of the harmonic changes, or the backing vocals. It usually means writing a sketch of the melody over a basic chord progression and the lyrics. The “arrangements” result from what every musician does in their instruments and collective decisions (negotiation) over structure (intros, sections, solos, etc.), harmonic substitutions, and sound effects/engineering. The “sound” of a rock/punk/metal/etc. band depends a lot less on the “composition” (“writing”) than on these other -non written- factors (the opposite of what happens with “classical” music).
Seriously would you like to date someone like Kim? "Look at me I can do anything I want because I am so cute."

Since they have reunited, I have seen them 4 times. All of them were fantastic shows.
Pure orgasm to see this and hear this. Although I've had a great luck to see The Pixies back in 2017 (one of the best gigs in my life), they're are even in a greater shape now - Franks voice is just immaculate. I envy those who've witnessed this live! Cheers!
