    Great video! I do think you showed everything step by step and left out the small talk. I have pulled 2 of them and both times they were much easier to pull than any car trans I’ve worked on. The bolts on bell housing on top are tough but hey, life is tough. I just have to get in there and do it

    Just an FYI apparently there was a transmission vent leak on many Allison trans applications. They will blow fluid out the vent on the back top of housing on the left side. It's from a little design flaw or poor communication from Allison and the other manufacturers. The dipstick tubes need a vent, or remove the vent on the trans and extend it up higher at firewall etc. Possibly work to drill a hole in dipstick tube. Apparently there's TSB on it and random info in a search.
    Part # 15115171 (Updated???)Transmission filler tube- has slot or holes at top
    #10-07-30-001A: Fluid/Oil Leak During Cold Weather from Transmission Vent
    10-07-30-001B: Fluid/Oil Leak During Cold Weather from Transmission Vent (Early Models-Replace Transmission Fluid Level Indicator and Install New Transmission Vent Assembly) - (Feb 7, 2011)
    Subject: Fluid/Oil Leak During Cold Weather from Transmission Vent (Early Models-Replace Transmission Fluid Level Indicator and Install New Transmission Vent Assembly)
    Models: 2001-2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD-3500HD Series
    2001-2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD-3500HD Series
    Equipped with Allison® LCT 1000 Automatic Transmission (RPOs M74, MW7)
    Condition
    Some customers may comment on a small red fluid/oil leak during cold weather. Upon further investigation, the technician may find a small fluid leak in the area at the back of the transmission by the vent.
    Cause
    This condition may be caused by fluid being discharged out the transmission vent. During extreme cold weather, (approximately -25°C (-15°F or colder), Dexron® VI and other conventional transmission fluids become extremely viscous. When this highly viscous fluid is circulated into the vent area, it becomes trapped and it is not able to properly drain back to the pan. As the transmission warms up, the expansion of the air inside the transmission can force the trapped fluid out the vent and leads to small drops of fluid being discharged.
    Correction
    Only on 2001-2004 models, replace the transmission fluid indicator (dipstick) with a new vented indicator, P/N 15794381. On 2001-2011 models, remove the stock vent assembly and run an external tube and vent up to the front of the transmission to a mounting bracket. The extra length of tube allows the expelled fluid to be trapped and later drained back into the transmission.

      Need more info.
      Have you done any engine mods? Miles on engine? Do you have a lift pump(Air Dog/Fass)? How long since you changed fuel filter(s)? Have you tried using the hand primer to help get fuel?

    • @kevinkalivoda3442

      Kevin Kalivoda no it’s a bone stock truck with after market exhaust

    • @kevinkalivoda3442
      @kevinkalivoda3442 5 років тому +1

      @@hmfzaee835 check engine oil level. If it is overfilled and/or smells like raw diesel fuel you most likely have an injector issue.
      If oil is ok try pumping hand primer on top of fuel filter housing until firm. Crank engine. Repeat hand primer and crank if it does not start the first time. If it does start you may have an air leak in the fuel filter housing causing air to enter the low pressure side of the fuel system.
      You said it died after running for 20 minutes. You would need a scan tool to check further. I have seen many crankshaft position sensors fail after the engine starts to get up to temp. Monitor engine rpm on the scan tool while cranking. Rpm should show 270-500rpm. If it stays at 0 rpm it is most likely a bad crankshaft position sensor.

      Nah, they did it in 3 hours with several mechanics that have done this many times before. If you have pulled a trans before then just look at this as being a two day job on the ground. It’s not bad because these trucks have a lot of room to work compared to cars. The starter on this one takes me a 3’ extension. No kidding. They somehow got it off with a wrench so I will try it again with a speed ratchet. I hope it works because the starter was truly the hardest part.

    Sorry to bug you again sir, but your channel is to help ppl learn stuff. I’m trying to learn. I have an 05 LLY and my buddy has an 04 Duramax (different engine code that i can’t recall now) but, we both have recently replaced water pump, power steering pump with all new hoses, alternator, and replaced all pullies with new... we both now seem to have an issue with the both trucks whining. It does not whine when it’s cold . After warming up, it whines loud to us... . Nobody else seems to be able to hear it but it’s there. We have checked everything we can think of. The only thing we can think, the OEM power steering pumps just whine from being new. Has anyone you know ever heard of this? The truck runs great... it does not cause or have any issues. We just know our trucks and can hear it. Any tips to check? My mechanic has listened with a stethoscope and can’t really pinpoint where the noise comes from.

    • @kevinkalivoda3442
      @kevinkalivoda3442 5 років тому +1

      Tim Evans have you checked your power steering lines? They metal parts may be contacting the pump reservoir, the hydroboost, the frame or eachother which could some noise to be heard. If you have a friend to help, have one person listen to the noise and the other wear a leather glove and grab each power steering line individually. Move the steel lines one at a time and see if the noise changes and/or goes away.

    • @thinblueswinebbq
      @thinblueswinebbq 5 років тому

      Kevin Kalivoda I will try that out. It just seemed odd that we both replaced basically the same parts on 2 different duramax trucks and both have a whine. We will check what you suggested. All the lines are new so they could be touching something. Just odd that it only does it when the truck gets up to temp. When I really hear it the best is coming to a stop. As i slow down, At about 40mph the transmission will drop to first gear, the RPM drop from 2000 to about 600 and the whine drops off and sounds very strange. Both trucks run great just weird

    • @kevinkalivoda3442
      @kevinkalivoda3442 5 років тому +1

      @@thinblueswinebbq dont forget, your power steering is at a high load when braking and low rpm means lower output from the pump so those 2 combined really works the system.
      Some of the forums have commented about poor quality issues with reman power steering pumps (since new are no longer available for older trucks), even from ac delco.

    As a transmission rebuilder and converter rebuilder you are doing so much wrong. First don’t ever! Turn the converter by digging at the converter with a pry bar! Do you know what that does inside the converter? You use a special wrench to turn the crank on front of the engine on a duramax/ Allison trans. Take the cross member out before you do transfer case. Your working way to hard around it. Never use hammer on cooling lines to remove.
