With no clutch pedal, yes i think it would. Especially if you are running some torque reduction on the painful shifts. We have put them through hell and they just cop it.
Does it run on the stock ecu? Wouldn’t be easier just to swap stock ecu with the maxxecu. And then controll the DCT also with the maxxecu, and add a clutch pedal… but then again I don’t know how would chassis side of things work out regarding the cluster, infotament system and all other systems. Regardless great hob guys! You’re pushing the limits and I’m all for it
DCT won’t like the abuse that this owner is aiming for. Owner would love to Maxxecu it, however the Maxxecu can’t keep the chassis happy yet… without the correct signals from the factory dme the chassis just won’t be too happy.
Since 8hp comes in many chassis, do they have different ratios? I have a short ratio DCT in my is300 and 7th gear @60 mph I’m pushing 3k rpm. That’s with a 3.2 diff.
Check the wiki page for the different ratios. Howver they dont vary much. With a normal ish size tyre for the is300 and 3.2 diff, youd be at about 1800rpm in 8th with any of the 8hps.
Hey Ash, similar process. And hell yes! You’ll need to check the bolt pattern different between the n63 8hp70 and your current dct. I think they are the same (not sure tho). The thing is I don’t get why it’s hard to get the gear change shown on the dct cluster but when the cluster is swapped into a 8hp car it shows the gear change. Some to do with coding?

Sequentials, while they feel great for aggresive driving they are not good for cruising on a sunday morning, or trying park for that matter. They also were never intended for high mileage use. A sequential requires significant servicing including replacement of dog gears every 3-5000ks. I love sequentials but they have no place in a street car. Not long term. In race mode this will bang through the gears like a sequential, but actually change ratios faster. Its the best of both worlds and they are expected to 100,000ks before anything inside needs replacing.
I actually like the DCT, I did a DCT conversion in 2021 and hurt that DCT with only 600whp. We have been involved in over 100 8hp swaps now. 8hp will launch faster and do it reliably. The 8hp accelerates faster. The 8hp is strong enough to add a clutch pedal for drifting. Its a stronger transmission, and the extra ratios help get the car down the track faster. Its why BMW ditched the DCT in the M cars. I should add to that, if you have an awd DCT, you can lean on tyre slip, not clutch slip to get them launching quickly. But rear drive where you need to slip the transmission to launch, it just kills those DCT clutches. Sill an awd 8hp will be faster than a awd dct.

That’s a result of half throttle and the trans rev limiter. In p3 “manual” mode it’s shifting at 6200rpm in this video. Miles too low and the wastegate is closing as the revs lower too much and boost drops below target. That’s why it doesn’t make that sound when Daniel is revving it out a little more. Once the power tune is done we will setup all the max shift points properly optimise power getting to the wheels as it goes through the gears.
Crazy build. But a lot of work and money for "just" an M3. Why not just get an F90 M5, throw in some rods and turbos for 1000hp and be done with great V8 sounds...
I completely agree f90 would be a better street car. It’s this chassis ability to drift at a competitive level that spawned all this madness. The f90 is too heavy.
G80s are yuk. Probably a dumb suggestion. But what about swapping a DME from 340i, because its got a 8hp from factory. So its like a 340i with a s55 swap.
@@ZeroTo60Tube cantcu would be easiest. But with that kind of hp you probably want the lamik. What about a different ecu for engine? Haltech or whatever. Owner seems like he doesn't mind spending money.
I dont think so. Its possible, but you really need to code the chassis as a DCT so you can gear position on the dash and keep ABS/DSC modules happy. Who makes the 8 speed transmission?
ZF
@@ZeroTo60Tube ...... I'm confused. I contacted ZF and they said they don;t sell 8 speed transmissions, only the BMW dealer can sell them. So what is a "Turbo Lamik". ZF also said that the majority of BMWs have the ZF transmission in them.
@@ZeroTo60Tube ........... so what brand of 8 speed transmission is in that BMW that you said is the first one ever to have an 8 speed transmission????
It is a ZF transmission, made by ZF. That is the brand. You dont buy coca cola from coca cola direct. This is the first f80 to have a 8spd with turbo lamik controller.@@2ndAmendProtector
Hey I know it's not the point of the video but I love your Ray Ban's Can you please tel me a serial number of them? 😎
No sorry they are lost 😞
Why does the F80 need to lose its highly advanced DCT? That transmission is magic.
Not as magic as the 8hp. Which is why the BMW dct is no more. Making this much power, wanting to drift and abuse the car, 8hp will do it much better.
@@ZeroTo60Tube 🥲pouring one out for the DCT. I guess if you’re pushing big power the TC Auto is better. Think I saw an F80 do an 8 something pass with the DCT though. Isn’t that fast enough?! 😂 looking forward to ZERO warning lights on the dash.
You did, it was RK tunes sick build as well. However he had the most gangsta DCT clucth setup in that car and chewed 3 of them in 2 days trying to get that 8 second pass. Dont get me wrong, i like the DCT, im going to one in my car for a little while until i turn the power up again. @@TML34

why not fit a sequential box
Sequentials, while they feel great for aggresive driving they are not good for cruising on a sunday morning, or trying park for that matter. They also were never intended for high mileage use. A sequential requires significant servicing including replacement of dog gears every 3-5000ks. I love sequentials but they have no place in a street car. Not long term. In race mode this will bang through the gears like a sequential, but actually change ratios faster. Its the best of both worlds and they are expected to 100,000ks before anything inside needs replacing.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Wow
Did it bolt right in the 8hp
With an adapter yes. However access to the converter bolts is a pain.
I'll take a few
@@ZeroTo60Tubeso you can get to the converter bolts without cutting the s55 block?

yes, no modifications to the block. you do have to cut a hole for the start in the 8hp.@@Swaggin65
My question is why 8 speed auto over a dct ?

Ohhh man, how useless of me. Thanks for the heads up.
What does it cost to do something like this?
It depends on your location as the cost of the trans can vary so much.
In Australia with a built trans this is around 25k installed.
Whats the cost to bring a standard M4 2015 in to get it up to this point? And when I ask.. I mean APPROX>> NOT HOLDING ANYONE TO THIS $$$ PRICE
Honestly stock to this would be somewhere around $150-200k AUD and no, I’m not kidding. The owner has spent well over 200k to this point, but he did some learning along the way which always costs money. Everything has been telephone numbers from the paintwork, the interior (new front seats were nearly 20k alone after trimming), the engine, the drivetrain, everything has been done with no budget restraint. It really is a mind blowing car. Super proud to be a part of it.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Definitely hear what you are say.. power ain't cheap nor are fairly newish Beamers as well..
But as a learning curve and as a product to sell -its a massive win win really.

@@AlexWilliams-vi8md - Hi Alex.. Those M4's are just my sweet spot of cars.. Yours is just next level overload.. Looks amazing, sounds amazing.. you must be super happy
@@AlexWilliams-vi8md Alex what's your IG? This build is beyond incredible for the F8X platform
It does kind of a pause on aggressive shifting it seems
That’s a result of half throttle and the trans rev limiter. In p3 “manual” mode it’s shifting at 6200rpm in this video. Miles too low and the wastegate is closing as the revs lower too much and boost drops below target.
That’s why it doesn’t make that sound when Daniel is revving it out a little more.
Once the power tune is done we will setup all the max shift points properly optimise power getting to the wheels as it goes through the gears.
This is like my e92 but a f80
Is this e85
Running e85 at the moment, but it is a full flex tune setup with ethanol sensor.
It's gonna be worse with the G80 nut crusher buckets

Crazy build. But a lot of work and money for "just" an M3. Why not just get an F90 M5, throw in some rods and turbos for 1000hp and be done with great V8 sounds...
I completely agree f90 would be a better street car. It’s this chassis ability to drift at a competitive level that spawned all this madness. The f90 is too heavy.
F80 looks better, handles better, plus the unique factor to keep pushing the chassis is AWESOME
👌
G80s are yuk. Probably a dumb suggestion. But what about swapping a DME from 340i, because its got a 8hp from factory. So its like a 340i with a s55 swap.
The 340 dme won’t run the s55, to my knowledge…. However soon the lamik will support it fully. Cantcu also if you want to run stock tcu in the trans.
@@ZeroTo60Tube cantcu would be easiest. But with that kind of hp you probably want the lamik. What about a different ecu for engine? Haltech or whatever. Owner seems like he doesn't mind spending money.
Want this so bad
+1
This a easier swap on a manual m2 s55?
I dont think so. Its possible, but you really need to code the chassis as a DCT so you can gear position on the dash and keep ABS/DSC modules happy. We can umaulate DCT signals to the chassis and engine. The manual has a fequency gear position sensor. Which the TCU can not emulate...... yet @@The2000fast
