FBO cost is very similar between B58 and S55, but theyre also very different platform meant for 2 different purposes as you mentioned
Very true! I was just told a catless dp for a b58 is $300 so it’s about $600 or double for a s55 because it has 2 turbos. I know intakes are more expensive but you’re literally paying for 2 vs 1. It’s just a slight increase in price by not way more by any means. Thanks for clarifying & commenting! 🔥
@@GearsAndGains1Yes it has two downpipes but they sell them together and a quick google search would've showed you that. I got my downpipes for like $200 new. It's like a front mount intake, there are two of them, they come as a set for one price.
It depends what you need it for. If you only have one car and will use it daily or do long trips; get the M340i. If its a weekend car, you only use it for fun or track; M3 all day long. I'm getting a bit older and went from two cars, one of which was M3 to one M340i. It does enough for the 5% of the time I can use sport+ mode. Performance is comparable between the two. Full M car is much more raw though.
I definitely agree! In my full video I made for the M340i, I said its a better daily because of the comfort & AWD. Ive also road tripped my M340i twice to florida & Nashville from the north east & it was perfect. I probably could've done the same in an F80 tho
That sounds like me. I got a 2019 stage 2 RWD 240i on a P850 doing 680 on pump. I am thinking about getting the ZF 8hp 45/50 tran to manage that stage 3 godzilla number I’m going for. Perfect daily that out runs any M car on the weekends!
This is exactly the predicament I am in, 3.5 years in an M2 N55 and then 3 years in with an M2 Comp with some older BMW Tourings as dailies in between alongside the M2. I’m now looking at getting M340i X Drive Touring simply because I spend less time on track these days and more time just using the M2 as a daily so the M340i is perfect for 95% of the use I need. S55 or M340i they are both phenomenal but the non M is simply a more useable / comfortable car 👍🏻
Thats something I always wondered! F80 is right when cars became less analog & G80 is when it completely departed from that. My friend with an E92 drove an F82 M4 and he didn't like the way it felt because he didn't feel connected to the car. Thank you for watching!
Funnily enough, I was in the market for an M340i/F80 a few months ago. Went to a dealer that had both for sale. I was heavily leaning towards the M340i due to xDrive, “b58 hype”, new tech but then i saw them both side by side in person and then drove them both. This video summed up my experience and which car i bought.
Thats exactly the reason I went with the M340 but now im having those same thoughts. The F80 just looks and drives so much better to the point where I want to get out of my m340i, but insurance for F80s around me is crazy high. My friend in the video pays $900 a month and just got dropped by his insurance (no accidents) just because so many people around us crash them!
@@GearsAndGains1 M340i and F80 insurance prices are roughly the same in the UK. Maybe “B58 hype” has something to do with this since it is an Instagram/UA-cam thing, where young people watch people like 1Stock, think they are invincible and then crash the car. That’s just my guess because in reality, the F80 is actually the more dangerous, more desirable (for thieves) car.
Awesome video, one thing to add however. The price of a used m3 is very stable, the m340i seems to be depreciating much faster as it’s a non M and less of a collectors item. If resale value matters to you I think the f80 M3 is the winner. Both amazing cars with trade offs. F80 for me tho 😊 hopefully soon
Thats so true. My car depreciated crazy! Carmax offered me less than 30k for my car... 2020 decent options with 60k miles. Idk how ill ever trade it in. F80 will 100% be a classic in the future 🔥
Came from a stage 3. E92 335i, to now a f80 stage 2. In gear the 335i feel alot more powerful due to the hybrid turbine, but in actual 100-200 time, the f80 is alot faster due to the wide powerband and quick dct shift. I really cant deny the f80 does bring a special feeling for each every drive as compared to the 335i. The dct, braking, handling balance .. its not really something i will spend time to replicate what the m division has done .
Nothing can beat all the real M parts on the F80. The shifting, the steering, handling, everything is unique. It feels so awesome! I really miss it when I got back into my m340 😂
Hector is running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines. On top of that, he just came into Harry’s and ordered three T66 turbos with NOS and a Motec system exhaust.
Oh yeah f series cars handle way better for sure. Even though the g series has AWD. The more analog feeling just feels way better for the driver too. Awesome car! My friend has an F82 and he loves it!
Sane bro I’m from NYC so when it snows, I still gotta go out. The AWD just makes it so much easier to live with. Check out the review & mod list I just posted on the m340i 🔥
Don't let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry's and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system
I’ve owned two S55’s then a 6 port GR Supra. All I’m going to say is even the Supra felt numb and blunt compared to the M’s. It felt like an 80% M car in comparison whereas with the F80/82 you had that extra 20% that really took it to the next level (stiffer dampening, DCT, higher revving S55 motor). The only thing that was really better in the Supra was the chassis.. and you don’t even get this benefit in the m340i. The F80/82 are a performance car first, the m340i is always just a quick luxury car. In terms of performance you can get a custom e85 tune on a stock hardware S55 and be at 560-570whp. This gives you a high 10 1/4 mile with a 131-132mph trap speed. You can’t even get close to this trap speed in any stock turbo full effort B58, and this isn’t even max effort on the factory turbos. They struggle to put power down from a dig especially with a DCT, but from a roll it’s not even close. Saying S55s aren’t known for making power is wild. Especially when they do it better than the B58 and considerably faster mod for mod. If you want a friendlier daily, with newer tech, and AWD then you pick the m340i. If you enjoy driving or leaning towards anything remotely performance related then the f80/82 are in a different league inside out. If we’re looking at the rare exceptions where you’re building a high hp race car then of course the B58 takes the cake here.
Fantastic video Ryan! This is so well done and accurate. I have a m240 and can relate to everything you said about feel on your m340. I haven’t driven a F8X… but would you agree that the m340 just feels like an electric car that has an exhaust? Quick, but too smooth, no driver’s experience, very electronic? Also i just did catless dp and midpipe but with windows up i still cant even hear my exhaust unless windows are down. Would you say m3 has significantly worse sound deadening and easy to hear exhaust inside cabin with windows up?
Thats exactly how I feel! It feels almost like a tesla than a BMW. In eco mode, it feels like the farthest thing from a BMW. Thats one thing I like much better about the F80. Im not even sure if that is fixed in the G80 M3! I also think the sound deadening in the M340i is much better since the car is more of a daily/commuter focused car. I used to own a supra and the sound deadening in that car was even a lot compared to the F80. I do think much of what i was hearing in the F80 was the active sound design being pumped in from the speakers though. Thank you so much for watching & for your support! It means a lot!
you can drive the M340i with 900HP and all you really need is a downpipe, upgrade turbo and software first thing breakin are the piston rods cuz theyre gonna stard bending 800HP is basically safe
I purchased a F80 yesterday. Stock 2018 Black competition, with 40,000kms on the clock. One owner and purchased as a BMW certified vehicle from the original dealer. Pick it up in about ten days and I am so fucking pumped. I wanted to get the M3CS, but just couldn’t find one at a decent price, so I I went with the comp. I don’t be I’ll be modding it, with the one exception maybe the GT tune, and I won’t ever be selling it.
It’s alright there’s not a HUGE difference from the CS to comp other than mostly weight & engine tuning. You made a great choice, congrats on the new car! 40k is pretty low too so that’s awesome. Thank you so much for watching too!
Congrats!! My concern is that of course it’s a nice car and it’s definitely worth it but the question arises is why would you invest into it if overtime it’ll depreciate? 20,000 depreciation is a lot but not too bad but if it’s like $40,000 or more depreciating overtime, isn’t that a bad investment? (unless you can afford that)
I think the m3 f80 will hold its value much more than the m340i! I think the m340 has still some ways to go before it hits the bottom of its depreciation
That sounds so fire. Not sure if mine is mineral white or alpine white, but my car & the F80 looks like different whites. Red interior is so nice too 🔥
I dont care as much for the power as i do the enjoyment of driving. Thats why I stick with older BMWs (e36 and before) e46 and e36 motors are less complex and so durable if you take care of them. Great video though on these newer models, but not worth $50k IMO.
Thank you!! Thats so true. My friend just bought an e92 and he loves it. He drove an F82 M4 and even said that doesnt feel as good as his car does. Nothing beats older BMWs for driving experience.
Anyone who says m340 has just fell into the mlite marketing scheme 😂😂😂😂 there will never be a day I pick a mlite over a full fledged m car in my life. Common logic,
If i wanted a more comfortable car, or a better daily, or a better car for drag racing like most BMW drivers do nowadays, im 1000% taking the M340i. Its better for all 3 of those things. Anything else, the F80 is better
My m340i makes about 500 whp with a custom ecutek tune on e50. I think off the line i definitely will beat an f80 but from a roll they can probably get me.
The m340i is the one to get, the B58 is legendary at this point, Awd is a must for me the roads in the north east are booty lol. But For me the m240i is perfection i just wish the m2 had x drive like the new one.
@@GearsAndGains1 Yeah they are a bit wider and have different pattern. I Would say they are more comfortable than the standard and more adjustable. Mine used to be a demo car from the dealership so it makes sense they put all the premium options. I doubt if I would pick them if I would buy brand new.
Yes it does! But I think if you’re comparing both from a drag race, the AWD will make the m340i pick up faster. If you’re interested in the m340i you can watch my review I just posted, but thanks for watching from Belgium! 🔥
@7:40 you lyin bro, ok so e50 tune on your 340i makes about 500whp, WHY DIDNT YOU SAY WHAT THE S55 DOES with Ethanol???? Skipped the fact that the s55 makes more power mod for mod than this b58. the s55 in the f80 m3 can actually run 100% e85 without any fuel system upgrades and make about 580WHP with just a downpipe and a full e85 tune. Appreciate this video, but 340 makes more power??? YES MORE POWER compared to a stock car!!!
I was comparing bolt on b58 to stock m3 because it’s cheaper to buy the m340 and put those bolt ons than to buy a stock m3. The m3 does make more power 100%. Wasn’t sure of the real numbers on e50 so I didn’t say them, just took the 93 numbers from Hector! However, the m3 can’t even put that power to the ground with the RWD.
The F8X is the best car you can buy for the money. You get a complete street car from the factory. It feels so rewarding to drive. The M340i just feels boring. No excitement. Most of these guys who are raving about B58 are newer BMW enthusiasts who have never owned a M car and just want to go fast. No offense but real BMW enthusiasts will always choose a M over a M340i.
You’re 1000% right! I agree with that having owned my m340i for so long & driven an f8x car a few times. For the price I don’t think there’s a new-ish better driving car out there. I got my m340i for convenience & for the AWD because I drive in the snow often.
They are a very similar cars, believe it or not, and a pretty similar price point depending on years and specs. A lot of people debate between these two cars, so that’s why it’s still a question and a lot of people’s minds.
The crankhub only affects less than 1% of all cars..its not an issue. Sell the m340..i couldnt go from a F82 to a G20..that would be a big downgrade..the Zf is boring..my friends owning G8x sell the car after a year..because its boring..fast but boring.
I feel like the f80 is a downgrade to my G20. It’s an upgrade in performance kinda but I’m losing AWD and losing the great interior. Crankhub isn’t as much of an issue as people make it seem but I still think these cars are too similar & too good in their own categories to make a proper decision
They’re both awesome cars, but I think for handling the F80 is better. For comfort & Convenience with all-wheel-drive, the M340i is better. It’s a very hard choice to make!
The m340i is definitely the much better sounding car! its one of my favorite things about the car 🔥 I just posted my review on the M340i if youre interested! Thanks for watching! 🔥
That’s very true. A lot of people like the LCI m340i though because of the updated looks. To me, and to many people, that car looks like what the m3 should’ve been. It looks so good, better than a 2020-2022 m340i. If price is a big concern, m340i wins hands down
Still waiting for literally anyone to dig race these cars other than Sam CarLegion bc it will lose. Yeah we all know the f80 wins from a roll it’s literally 500lbs lighter but s55 owners just refuse to dig and face the L. There’s 1xxx+ hp rwd cars that can dig w/ no prep on the street and maintain their lane no problem. Doesn’t matter how much hp the F80 got if the only way you can get power down is after 50mph. If it’s so much faster s55 owners claim it to be, then it should definitely come around but it won’t.
This is so true! And no one likes to talk about it. The S55 makes more power with bolt ons yes but can it put that power down? Maybe I'll have to find an abandoned air strip in mexico and Dig race these cars. That video would go crazy! I'll see what I can do because we have to find out who the winner will be (me)
@@GearsAndGains1 that video would go crazy 🔥 b/c it’ll finally show the difference between these two cars. Stock for stock still the m340 beats the f80 and Supra from a dig. I live in a snowy climate and that’s why I chose to buy a 23 m340 because of awd when I also had the option for a low mileage f80. You can slide tf out of a f80 tho but ain’t winning from a dig. (Dig racing is real racing).
Bro say you are biased with out saying you are biased. Your 3 series is a great car it's luxurious But, faster modded? 😂 No way bro. I eat b58 alive with just dp e85 pro tune. It takes b58 bigger turbo and fueling to match not beat. I walk 40i cars like it's nothing from a roll light to light racing is pointless. When you gap someone at full steam on the highway no better feeling no excuses. B58 is a great engine to mod tons of support but mod for mod it gets smoked by M3. Still good video but ngl I already knew it what you were going to say before you said it. I drove your car and it's boring as hell, I was falling asleep i couldn't do it sorry. M cars are more exciting and look better while doing it. B58 is a truck motor it's not an S tier motor.
Well from a dig the M340i would win. The AWD is what makes it faster, because to me dig racing is the only real racing (in my opinion). From a roll? M3 would will win 9 times outa 10. Mod for mod, m3 makes more power for sure, but they can't always hook. I reallu enjoyed driving the M3 because of the driving feel, but when it comes to newer BMWs and what BMW owners do with newer BMWs, which is drag racing, the M340i is the faster car for that.
Exacly,b58 is based on a diesel engine, long stroke small valves, there is a reason rk tunes with the world fastest bmw said s55 is the best engine bmw ever made and b58 isnt even in the same league,he knows his bmws he has all of them,s55,b58 so hes definetly not biased
@@durin23 I agree with RK-Tunes that the s55 is better than the b58, but I think we all know the s58 is best factory BMW motor. I always smoke maxed out FBO 240s, 340s, z4, mk5 supras with just a downpipe and e85 tune on my m4. Wish the s55 had x-drive !
Yea it definitely is much lighter! Im not sure about 500 lbs lighter but I think a m340i is about 3900 lbs! F80 comp is like 3600. Thank you for watching & commenting! 🔥
I’m not 100% sure cuz I hear different things about both cars weights, but the f80 is definitely significantly lighter than the m340i. Especially since Xdrive adds 100 lbs
m340 if you are poor and want something smooth and practical f80 if you actually know how to drive and want to drive (if you're going to drive like a npc and never use the car then just get a m340. Stage 1 m340 pushes the power of a f80 or g80 anyway lol
Ngl I can definitely agree with that 😂 if you wanna be an NPC go with an m340. I always see NPC old people driving M340s just because they have money 😂
That midwestern snow is nothing to play with 😭 for that, an AWD car is definitely best. If you wanna learn more about the m340i, you can check out the review I just posted!
Same we both drive our cars daily in NY & they’re both great. No issues whatsoever. Now when it snows? Maybe, but still it’s just a part of having a car like this. Thanks for watching! 🔥
@@GearsAndGains1 we don’t get snow much and realistically If it does it’s 3-5 days of the year if you can afford a 40k plus sports car you can afford to uber 3-5 days of the year to work just the game we play when it comes to owning cars with limitations
Nowadays 50k is what a regular car costs! My mom was looking to buy a Honda pilot & she bought her 2008 for like 30k & in 2024, the cheapest new one she could buy was like 50k… inflation hit cars hard! But both these cars can be found for well under 50k
F80 really is a great car but most people compare these because of the price. In the video I just made on the m340i, the price of a fully loaded m340i LCI is about the same as a decent mileage m3 comp
You can get a 2020 m340i, which is the best year for under 35k! That’s the same year I have. Best for tuning too. Or even get a gen 1 340i for 25k! For BMWs there’s a lot you can get. 240i, 440i, any of them!
Imagine comparing an M car to a non-M 😂. Diabolical. It only comes down to - Do you want an older performance car or a newer regular traffic BMW. Also almost died when bro said I love the taillights on the G20 but yet he’s replaced it with a cheap knockoff version of the F80 OLED. ☠️
M340i stepped it up a lot to where it’s fairly comparable now. There’s things the M340i does much better, and if they were the same weight, the F80 would really struggle. We already know the B58 responds to mods better, and can handle more power both stock and built. There’s not any S55 in the 7s, while the B58 was the first one to get there. Knock off version of F80 tail lights? Those are GTS style tails for the G series.. nothing to do with a knockoff f80 light.
Lmfaoo yea i just put my stock ones back on today. G80/G20 tail lights look awesome. The M car is the better driving car but most people who perfer the M340i like it for drag racing or AWD

Still love my E92-335IS, LeMans blue, DCT, N54, and now an LSD, Brembos, Konis and some //M suspension stuff.. and only 82K miles
I had an f80 and now an xdrive comp G80. The f80 feels more raw than my g80. The power and grip of my xdrive G80 is just amazing.

@@Eddy-09 IMO the F80 and F90 are two of the best looking BMW's ever released. The G80 is ugly as sin.

😊this is the making of a really great channel. This video was excellent
Thank you so much! This comment means the world to me ❤️ I really appreciate it!
I never even thought about that 😂😂😂 you know the whole movie line too, I gotta let Hector know that 😂
Great video! Very informative🏁🏁
I have a bone stock 2019 f82 only 9k miles on it. I'm a track guy, to me this is the car. I smoke 2024 g82's comps around willow springs easily too
Oh yeah f series cars handle way better for sure. Even though the g series has AWD. The more analog feeling just feels way better for the driver too. Awesome car! My friend has an F82 and he loves it!
I’ll take m340 awd did it for me that’s why I went 340 because of living in north east
LMFAOO 😂 someone else commented this & Hector thought it was hilarious 😂
@@GearsAndGains1 did you find your supra to have the same feel as your 340i? Or did it feel raw like the m3?
you can drive the M340i with 900HP and all you really need is a downpipe, upgrade turbo and software
first thing breakin are the piston rods cuz theyre gonna stard bending
800HP is basically safe
How much did you get your m3 for in usd? I'm also in the market looking for a 2016-2018 m3 with competition package, which is why I'm wondering
I got a 2022 rwd m340 and love it, mineral white, maroon red interior
That sounds so fire. Not sure if mine is mineral white or alpine white, but my car & the F80 looks like different whites. Red interior is so nice too 🔥
Great vid overall.
Thank you so much! Im glad you enjoyed it! I also made a video on just the M340i last week, so if you're interested, go ahead and check that out! 🔥
Lets see your car
performance related, i'm making 550whp on a custom e50. on my gen1 b58, i was making 470ish whp on custom e50.
My m340i makes about 500 whp with a custom ecutek tune on e50. I think off the line i definitely will beat an f80 but from a roll they can probably get me.
@@GearsAndGains1 yeah dct is horrible off the line, ive beat every stock turbo g20 on roll nights. the hybrid turbo g20's eat me up though
The m340i is the one to get, the B58 is legendary at this point, Awd is a must for me the roads in the north east are booty lol. But For me the m240i is perfection i just wish the m2 had x drive like the new one.
Facts if the M2 had xdrive like the other models do, then that would be the best car 🔥
M3 all the way, m340i is sick, but if u wanna have the option to go sideways and just generally get more adrenaline then m3 is the wayyyyyyyyyyyy
Is your m340 tuned?
@@goobert83 yes it is! Stage 2 on Ecutek. Full bolt ons pretty much except an intake
I have the m340i with the executive interior seats. It is very different from this one.
Really? I’d assume they’re nicer? My seats are nice but they have worn quite a bit. My rear seats are almost brand new tho since I never use them!
@@GearsAndGains1 Yeah they are a bit wider and have different pattern. I Would say they are more comfortable than the standard and more adjustable. Mine used to be a demo car from the dealership so it makes sense they put all the premium options. I doubt if I would pick them if I would buy brand new.
Stage 2 in belgium give the m3 520hp and the b58 480hp. So downpipe and tune the s55 get higher output
@@GearsAndGains1 I think you made the right choice! The AWD in the cold climate is the best of both. Can’t go wrong with either choice👍
There is one thing that F80 stands out is reselling value. It will always holds its value more than an non M real car !!
cant believe there even is a question like this lmao
They are a very similar cars, believe it or not, and a pretty similar price point depending on years and specs. A lot of people debate between these two cars, so that’s why it’s still a question and a lot of people’s minds.
Was going to say the same thing
The crankhub only affects less than 1% of all cars..its not an issue. Sell the m340..i couldnt go from a F82 to a G20..that would be a big downgrade..the Zf is boring..my friends owning G8x sell the car after a year..because its boring..fast but boring.
I feel like the f80 is a downgrade to my G20. It’s an upgrade in performance kinda but I’m losing AWD and losing the great interior. Crankhub isn’t as much of an issue as people make it seem but I still think these cars are too similar & too good in their own categories to make a proper decision

Uh this isnt 2020 anymore. You can get a M340i 2020 used for about half that price.
